It's a great book. It gives you a very wide knowlege of how to make masks,selections and compositions.It's easy written and you can download all pictures of the book from the internet.So you can try it yourself wright away.Katrin is a very inspiring person and she makes you very enthousiastic by telling her way of seeing things and the many ways you can make these things happen with photoshop.You really can't wait to start.I thought I knew photoshop but I learn so much more by reading this book and doing it at the same time.

In Introduction part, she had a note to EDUCATOR " I hope this book can HELP you TEACH Photoshop". This statement gave me CONFIDENCE while I DO HAVE the MASTER SECRET in my hand, and thinking Yesssss...until tomorrow !!

Katrin Eismann is an expert and she seeks to make you an expert in her book. It is a wealth of information. You'll learn how photoshop does some things and how you can make photoshop do some things that aren't evident in the commands and help files. I recommend reading the book then keeping it around as a reference to be used as situations or ideas arise.

Again, definitely for advanced beginner: Make sure you know your Scott Kelby basics first. Also make sure you like to read as there are a lot of details to digest. Author knows her subject well. Excellent information I learned a lot.

Not really for true beginners, but an excellent reference book for those times when one thinks to themself, "How do I do that ___ again?"

I think the book was very good at giving examples on doing things that you might run into while making use of excel. In between the examples, you'll find a tip on a shortcut key or other, "I didn't know that" type information. The two weaknesses that I would give it are:
1) No example CD so I could follow along with the book (this was painful because I had to take time to create similar examples)
2) I wish it would go over all the shortcut keys. Perhaps I missed this but I have found these to be useful and wish the material had been better organized so that you could find them all in one place rather than sporadically buried in an example that had no indication it was teaching you a new shortcut.
Alas, there is much more positive than negative and I would definitely recommend the book to someone wanting to enhance their excel skills and learn a lot of tips they might have never learned otherwise.

This book is very well done. It's straight-forward, covers a wide amount of topics, and is practical in how it uses examples to demonstrate available functions. The only thing the book could have fleshed out more is macros.

There are a lot of great tips in this book. I purchased the book in order to provide my employees additional training in the use of Excel. Several people including myself have used the book. I have heard and received many compliments about how easy it was to follow.

I am so happy I bought this book! It was recommneded by some users on a ferret forum. What a good idea! So much information, I've referenced it a few times about my problematic ferret: he's a biter! Some useful information about switching diets, some recipes, ferret-proofing, etc. Good to have, excellend place to check for questions, and if you still have more- take what you learned to a ferret forum and they can answer your question more detailed! This is a must-have for any ferrent!

I love this book just as much as the first one. Everything was excellent. The seller was terrific as well couldn't have been better.

This book has lots of good information and it's easy to find. It works for the beginner or the experienced owner. It's my favorite ferret book.

I think the other reviewers have said it all. This is the most comprehensive introduction to ferrets I've seen yet in the several years that I have owned fuzzies. In response to other reviewers saying it is outdated: yes, it was. However, the latest edition is only a few months old. Even the newest edition may not contain every nitty gritty detail you need or want to know, but it is a great place to start so that you at least have some idea of how to identify a good source on the internet and what you should be searching for. If you are getting fuzzies, have fuzzies, or are thinking about getting fuzzies, you should read this book. You owe it to your little ones to have a basic idea of how to care for them, as ferrets are "exotic" pets and cannot be treated as other common household pets.

I brought this book to help us decide whether we were a suitable family to have a ferret. My son (aged 6) and I read the chapters that applied to us each night, and found this book answering all of our questions, and opening our eyes to things that we had not even thought of. Since purchasing this book we are now a ferret owing family, and we are still referring back to the book regularly (as we got a baby ferret). A must read if you are thinking about getting a ferret because it out lines the pros, but most importantly the cons of ferret care.

The Definitive Guide to Actionscript by Colin Moock is a must have for anyone serious about Actionscript. Moock explains object oriented programming with ease. There are many samples and examples making this book easily accessible to a wide range of programmatic abilities. This book is a great learning resource and also serves as a reference for developers.

It's all good... lot's of info, examples, details, etc etc...
I do have to comment though that everything you find in this book is EASILY found and sometimes in a way more deep and detailed manner in the Macromedia Flash Help section and in www.macromedia.com Flash support section... I would not consider this an essential book even though one feels secure to have it close...

Nice book, found it pretty pleasant at first, but it was too easy to digest (six, seven hours and you can toss it over your shoulder). The real answers I need (mostly dealing with movie clip behaviours) are only vaguely explained or absent and I found the book more of a frustration than otherwise from about 1 week onwards.

Having said this, there doesn't appear to be any other title for Flash that caters to those whose programming knowledge exceeds their experience as a graphical design user.

Finally, an actionscript guide that is superb in its production! My hat is off to Colin and Gary for this detail-oriented volume that has cleared the smoke out of my head and has made a programmer out of an artist.

Christine Durst and Michael Haaren did an excellent job of presenting the major points of what it takes to become a Virtual Assistant. Their approach was very practical and hands on; and yet, potential pitfalls were also listed and discussed. Overall, their advice was sound and realistic regarding what it takes to be successful in this field.

If anyone is seriously thinking about becoming a VA, then this book is a "must read"!

This is a wonderful book for the aspiring Virtual Assistant. The authors go into great detail on all aspects of running your own VA business, and their insight is timely and comprehensive. In particular, you'll enjoy the extensive chapter on marketing, which details various ways that a VA can capture the greatest share of the marketplace. I highly recommend this book as a must-read and a resource to reference throughout the start-up phase of your business.

90% of what this book covers appears in countless other books for small and home based businesses. And, I'm not so sure that the other 10% is really so revolutionary because the concept of working remotely has been around for several decades now. The authors outstanding accomplishment seems to be giving what they believe to be a revolutionary new job category a catchy name. Still, if you've been living on a distant planet, you may find their mention of the basic components, requirements and legalese of starting a business helpful.

I've found a lot of information over the last several months while browsing VA sites, even shelling out a few dollars for information I thought would be helpful. While some of it was ok, I still didn't feel ready to start a VA business based on what I had learned. Nor have I ever felt that paying $$$$ for certification and training was necessary for me.

I decided to buy "The 2-Second Commute" from Amazon. This book fills in ALL of the missing pieces and then some.

Don't spend a penny on anything else related to preparing to become a virtual assistant until after you buy and read this book. After you're done with it, you'll know exactly what you will need to do and/or learn to set up and launch a profitable VA practice that you'll enjoy. This book might just be the only training you need to get started.

Thanks to "The 2-Second Commute", I'll be launching my business before the end of this year. If I had read it earlier this year, I'd be in a profitable practice by now.

If you could only buy one book about owning your own VA business, I would highly recommend this one! As there are multiple books on the subject in the marketplace right now, I would still highly recommend this one. This is the ONLY book you will ever need - well, maybe one on accounting principles if you don't know any & have no money to hire an accountant! But this book tells you EVERYTHING you need to know, & the questions it asks (or asks you to ask yourself) & the skills assessment it has gets you THINKING about the actual undertaking of starting your own business. Even if you just read it cover to cover (which I also highly recommend) and never do anything else, you will forever think more concretely about owning a business. It's a true eye-opener.

I can't remember the last time I had so much fun reading a book. At the age of twenty six I still remember my favorite childhood tales while I read regular adult stuff but when I picked up Toonies I was in for a fantastic surprise, a book for children that an adult can love too! Of course whether I really feel like an adult is another story...

Toonies is an amazing adventure, vividly woven by a masterful story teller, Betty Dravis. Her language, imagination, in your face color and action shimmer brightly on every page. The rich and far out characters that possessed an aura of authenticity, I could almost imagine myself living through this story because it was very real but also incredibly magical. The story line was also extremely exciting, I had an incredibly tough time putting the book down and once I got time to read, forget it, nothing else existed until I finally reached the last page. I might also have to add that the cover art and the inner art work were perfect for the book! What I imagined while reading was only supported by the vivid artwork, which I liked so much that I kept looking at the cover every once in a while to envelop myself in the story even more. If all children's books were this good I would probably have to quite my job so I had more time to read!

In a nutshell the story is about a young boy named Jeremy Kern who lives in the Silicon Valley with his parents Arthur and Jessica. Even thought I am a girl I could relate easily to his childhood, with the parents fighting often Jeremy escaped into his own world, the cartoon strip he drew for the local paper on his Orange Computer. In the fantasy Cartoon Land the main character was Doog, a whimsical boy with red hair and fantastic personality. One day during a bad fighter at dinner, Jeremy excused himself only to run to his room and lose himself in his art. Little did he know that this beloved character was not only real but ready to help him out. Betty Dravis has outdone herself in the imagination department, I have never read such on original idea in any kind of a book, where the characters jump out of the computer, flat paper figures with feather, clothing, glowing edges, wearing funky clothing ready to do good and bad, depending on their character. Once the good guys get out of the screen to help Jeremy out the bad ones, called the Backgrounders are close behind, where there's good, evil surely lurks! The real adventure begins when Jeremy's dad releases something out of the computer that should never have the freedom to exist in the real world, something sinister, evil and truly dark. Together the family must stop the bird like creatures that followed orders delivered by a truly wicked character of Dab, I have no doubt that any reader will be truly taken by him. I found it truly incredible how Betty would portray the good and the bad with her imagination, giving each a real breath of life that simply jumped out of each page! Dab has a devilish plan to take over the world, spilling evil characters out of computer screens unless Jeremy and his family with the help of his darling friends and other Cartooon Land characters can stop him!

As the good and bad characters escape the computer and make Jeremy and his parents busy with a mission that requires team work and a secure and strong family to solve the problem, their fights and misunderstandings cease to exist to make room for solutions and peace. This story has some fantastic family values interwoven, I can see kids reading this and really feeling the true meaning to the story, feeling warmth and support, love and helping them see the world in a new light. Betty is a warm and fabulous person and her love spills through her writing, not only giving kids and adults entertainment but bringing back the morals and good, pure values into the tale, reaching the reader that life has a golden road that once found can be followed to a happy way of being.

Once I find a book I really love I can't wait to read it again and this is one of them. I wish there were many volumes to this tale. For those who think that Harry Potter is the only tale that kids and adults can read, this is the real awakening. Toonies is simply super, I cannot express how much I love it and how it touched me, the colors, the magic, the writing, the characters and the dialog were simply out of this world and I am really looking forward to reading it again as soon as I have some time.

I know that when I have children I will make sure they grow up reading this story, it will make them think and see things in a new light and I just know that they will love it. Stories such as this one make me realize how precious the gift of reading is, to dip into the pool of the authors imagination and take the swim in their magical world is an experience humans should be proud to behold because once the pages of this book are open nothing else matters!

I loved his interactions with Jeremy's mom, Jessica, especially the white flag incident. And you *must* read this gem of a novel to find out what I'm talking about! ;)

Betty Dravis has crafted an endlessly inventive, highly original, and entertaining tale that will appeal to readers of all ages. Don't miss it! :D

THE TOONIES INVADE SILICON VALLEY is probably one of the most charming, surprising, vivid and vibrant books I have ever read. And that statement includes everything I read as a child, and everything I've read so far as a "grown-up" (which is more of a physical classification than a mental one for me, at this point in my life... *smile*).

Betty Dravis' novel introduces readers to thirteen-year-old Jeremy Kern, who lives with his parents in Silicon Valley. As his parents' arguments get louder and more frequent, Jeremy retreats into his bedroom, working at his computer on cartoons about a boy named Doog. Creating a world and a life for Doog allows Jeremy to escape from his own troubles...but the last thing he expects is for Doog's world to merge with his own! But a chance touch in the corner of a cartoon eye, and poof! suddenly Doog is out of the computer, on Jeremy's desk, his red hair shining impossibly brightly and his eyes twinkling whimsically. Combining the elements and themes of a classic fantasy with freshly imagined characters in a thoroughly modern setting, the author has created an engaging children's story that will hopefully become a series. I have to believe that most children in this computer-driven age would really get into this "animated" book. Parents will appreciate the message and underlying values.

(I'd love to take my grandchildren to see the Toonies movie!)

Star-Crossed

I purchased this book thinking I could enhance my existing Yahoo store with the information. This book is only useful if you use Yahoo's Store Editor program and the author states this in his introduction. I use another program Yahoo Sitebuilder, so I turned around and ordered that book too. The title is very misleading....this is really only a book about using Store Editor to build your Yahoo store! If that is what you need the book seems pretty useful.

This book is well written but tells me nothing about how to use Store Editor. I've spent hours reading the book with Store Editor open in front of me and I still can't get it to work like he says it will.

Store Editor is the worse program I've ever tried to use. It's very cryptic and navigation is illogical. I can use Dreamweaver but not Store Editor.

Usually Dummies books are helpful but this one didn't cut it. Not sure if it's the auther or just that Yahoo stores is too complicated. I thought I could avoid hiring a 3500 dollar store designer but this book wasn't detailed enough. It only covers the store editor, the author isn't supportive of designing your store with straight html or another tool. Yahoo's support isn't very helpful either. If you want a website to sell your goods on, Yahoo and this book is not the way to go. Good Luck.

I have been working with websites since 1994. But when I came to edit my first Yahoo store I thought I had gone back in time. I didn't recognize anything, it all looked foreign and I needed to find help quick. Online proved fruitless so I grabbed my keys and heads to the bookstore for "research".

There were a few books there on Yahoo Selling but I found the Index of "Starting a Yahoo! Business for Dummies" easiest to navigate to exactly what I needed. As I scanned the book though I found more areas in which I could benefit. Much more areas than I had realized I could even do with Yahoo! Stores.

If you are lost with Yahoo Stores you will find all of your answers and more in "Starting a Yahoo! Business for Dummies"!

The book is absoultely the best "How To" for Yahoo Small Business on the market! Very clever and quick witted, Rob Snell is amazing. He not only has mounds of information regarding all aspects Yahoo! Stores, he has also helped me a lot personally in emails!

The book gives ideas, and points out common mistakes that i really needed help fixing. This book has helped sales, customer marketing and so much more.

A definate must-buy for any Yahoo! Stores owner.

Great book for the beginner & advanced pro. Gives you many suggestions on how to get the shot finished with out spending a lot of money. Many movie clips included on the DVD for examples in support of the text. But what I found is that this book is just fun to read. There is a no holds bared, if you want to make a movie then just do it, "I hate green screen" attitude that encourages everyone they CAN make movies. There is technical stuff on setting up shots & After Effect is the only post software used, but you can skip over or breeze by these on your first read because you'll be using this book as a primer as you make movies of all kinds..."just do it!".

Great resource if you are an intermediate videographer. Most of the techniques would be above a newbies head. If you use Adobe After Effects, you'll find some great ideas.

Not for the beginner but very practical info that will make a difference in your video production. If you don't have After Effects then it will depress you.

This is a fantastic book and a fun read. I think I read it twice in the week that it arrived. The included DVD is a nice treat as well as it's pretty cool to see Stu's movie and all of the effects and techniques discussed in the book 'in action.'

If I have one complaint about the book it's that it doesn't come with a DV Camera as after reading, you'll want to run out and make your movie.

Somebody's got to be honest here -- the movie that Stu made with all of his techniques is simply godawful on nearly every level. In fact, his emphasis on "rebel" technique might very well have you redirecting your creativity in all the wrong ways. Films are about good STORIES.

That being said, for the discerning reader, there is an enormous amount of useful information in this book and it will really get you technically up to speed fast. For that the "guide" really does deserve five stars. But what we have here is also a recipe book for making the most cliche-ridden Hollywood imitations, which is the furthest thing from what movies need in right now.

I recently purchased this book based on the rave reviews even with an updated second edition off the press. I can honestly say that this book is Awesome in detail and explanation and is still extremely relevant to understanding the how too's and processes involved in routing tcp/ip. The most amazing feature about this book is how well explained and the book makes topics that would normally seem dificult or confusing easily understood, in other words grandma could learn how routing tcp/ip works from reading this book!

Great book for understanding IGP in details.

If any book was ever considered as the MUST HAVE BIBLE for Interior Routing Protocols - then Jeff Doyle's first effort on IGPs is THE book (how many cliché's do you want in one sentence)!! The book goes through at a very even pace - dissecting and describing the majority of both open-standard IGPs (OSPF, RIP and a little on ISIS) and Cisco-proprietary IGPs (IGRP and it's beefier brother - EIGRP). The book also includes some invaluable appendixes - including tutorials on working with Binary and hex.

But let's focus on the book's main reason for being - explaining IGPs. Take for instance OSPF - one of the most popular and widely implemented routing protocols in use today. On page 416-417, the book correctly discusses virtual links as a type of network type. The OSPF chapter typically employs 5-8 routers (and shows the required configs). Such a daunting exercise may at first seem like overkill, but Doyle is able to show how (and why) the all these router configs are necessary (to show, for instance, how they interact with or whether a DR or BDR). The book does have it's typos though, as the table on page 484 incorrectly documents stub networks as allowing type 5 and 7 LSAs (not so - thus a stub!)

I cannot imagine there are many CCIEs out there that do not have this book on their bookshelf.

I am reviewing Routing TCP/IP Volume 1 (ISBN 1578700418), part of the CCIE Professional Development Series from Cisco Press. This book is widely regarded as part of the "Holy Trinity" of CCIE preparatory books. In addition to CCIE prep, it is also highly valued as an essential desk reference for anyone pursuing a career as a senior-level routing engineer. The author, Jeff Doyle, having written the two most recognized tomes on IP Routing, is a respected authority on the topic. His writing style is very clear and not at all difficult to read, which sets him apart from a lot of the authors in the "high-end routing book" category.

The book is part of a set of two books. TCP/IP Volume 1 contains coverage of the major interior routing protocols (RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF & ISIS) and follows it with coverage of route redistribution, filtering and mapping. TCP/IP Volume 2 covers the BGP exterior gateway protocol and follows it with coverage of advanced IP routing issues. As someone who's come up through the CCNA-to-CCNP-to-CCIE-candidate path, I recognized all of the topics from the BSCI curriculum. All this book really does is takes them to another level of depth. I highly recommend this path of coming at the CCIE, because unless you've done it all and seen it all, there's way too much information to take in during a single reading. Reading the BSCI book first gets you familiar with all of the topics, so that you're not overwhelmed when reading the Doyle books.

While many pan this book as being outdated since it was written in 1998, my contention is that all of the covered topics are still fair game for the CCIE qualifying written exam and the book still retains all of its original value. There are a lot of topics which are on the test which are not in Doyle's books, but if you look at the CCIE blueprint, the topics covered in the books map exactly to the topics in the IP Routing & IP Multicast sections of the blueprint. You can't treat any book as being a one stop shop for CCIE preparation. That's impossible. The book would be the size of my desk. I would actually contend that, on the next rewrite, they should break the 2 volume set into 3 volumes, one for the interior protocols, one for BGP by itself, and one for all of the advanced routing issues and multicast. This would make the volumes a bit less daunting and also somewhat easier to carry.

But, carry-ability issues aside, this is a very good book. It takes all of the topics to the degree of depth which you would expect for a CCIE-level book and explains things in a way that doesn't lose the reader. I had to work to keep the examples straight in my head, but no one said becoming a CCIE was easy. On the downside, the book contains no disc. This is unfortunate, because I always like to have the book on PDF. Also, it would be nice to have the review questions and answers put into a question bank. The book is also missing the "Do I Know This Already" section for each chapter, which is present in all of Cisco Press' certification guides. I realize that this is probably due to the fact that this is more of a desk reference / learning book than an official certification guide. However, as someone who's studying for an exam, I always like as many free practice questions as I can get.

I give Routing TCP/IP Volume 1 a 5 on my 5 ping rating scale and look forward to reading Volume 2.

Routing TCP/IP Volume 1 by Jeff Doyle (ISBN 1578700418) is an advanced level book on the theory and practice of routing and its implementation in Cisco routers. The 1026-page book (with a 50+ page index - always an important part of any technical book) is packed with useful information, example network architectures, and sample commands and their corresponding outputs to help the reader get a thorough grasp of real-life application of the theory.

The book is meant for working professionals in the network and routing field. Part I presents some basic routing theory along with the routing types - static and dynamic. This section, as in other books, is meant as a review for those seasoned engineers who have been working in the field for some time. It also helps to bring up to speed the other readers who may lack the necessary background. Part II contains the real substance of the book. It covers the interior routing protocols in detail including RIP 1 & 2, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, and IS-IS. The material presented in these chapters is definitely solid enough to give a detailed understanding of the subject matter and provide the necessary knowledge to allow one to troubleshoot the problems that creep up in maintaining networks running these routing protocols. Part III presents the issue relating to the optimization of networks running these routing protocols such as filtering and redistribution. Part IV consists of the appendices.

The most useful part of the book in my opinion is the examples and sample outputs. These really help the reader to understand the details on implementing the concepts presented in the book. Jeff presents a sample network architecture and uses that architecture to explain various aspects of the topic being discussed. For example, to illustrate various aspects of EIGRP routing and load balancing, a 5-router mesh architecture is presented followed by a detailed discussion of concepts such as succession, load sharing, route transitions and updates, etc. This approach really helps in understanding all aspects of a particular topic with concrete examples to relate to.

I took hold of this book not to help in preparing for the CCIE but to assist in the understanding of routing protocols that I use in my work life. As such, I can not comment on the applicability of this book to preparing for the CCIE exam but as for its application to real world scenarios, this book far exceeds any other on the topic of routing in the Cisco environment.

I am really impressed with the material presented in this book. The book is thorough and detailed in its coverage of interior routing protocols. Jeff Doyle is an expert in his field and this book proves it. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest, I give an enthusiastic 5 to Routing TCP/IP Volume 1 by Jeff Doyle. I can't wait to get my hands on Volume II.

Modern, up-to-date dsp info, this second edition is a must have.
The "Tricks" chapter is outstanding.

A good teacher can make a challenging subject accessible. This is THE book that proves it. It is a very well written introduction/reference to a field that is generally made scary by those who teach it. Any beginning electrical engineer who feels interested in DSP but doubts whether he/she is cut out for it, should read this book. It will dispel their apprehensions.

I first got hold of the "Chinese copy" of this book in paperback. I liked the book so much that I bought the hardcover real McCoy so I could pay my proper respects to the author and avoid the poor paper and ink bleed-through of the paperback version. It is one of a half dozen books on the subject that I really value.

Unlike some abstract mathematical treatments of the subject, Richard Lyons really connects with the guy who needs to make it happen on the bench. It is loaded with relevant examples and clear figures. I recommend it as a reference for the DSP practitioner and as a first class tutorial.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to Richard Lyons for "Understanding
Digital Signal Processing", both editions. I had the great pleasure to
use and learn from the 1st edition about 5 years ago. At that time, I
had the overwhelming urge to convey my appreciation for the wonderful
work. Now that the 2nd edition is out, there is even more reason to
express how much I enjoyed and still enjoy those works.

In particular, the topics are spot on (eg, I needed to learn about CIC
Decimation filters), but most importantly, the exposition is so very
clear and so easy to understand: each step in the progression is made
obvious -- no "and then the magic happens" or "left as an exercise to
the reader" for the important stuff.

The result is an EXCELLENT EXPOSITION. The care and the craft of
carefully showing the intermediate steps makes it real and concrete.
And it is done with a beautiful balance of intuition, observation,
analysis, and math. Why sling equations around when a simple graph
makes things clear? The equations are there, but the pictures are the
teaching tools. Other books discuss the topics. Richard Lyons's books
illuminate the topics.

I'm pleased to be able to purchase these books, and happy that Richard
is being rewarded (getting royalties, for he is DSP royalty) for his
achievements.

I purchased this book because I found myself needing to do some digital signal processing and the FFT gives me anxiety. This book was an excellent and clear introduction to the basics and helped me to develop a much better understanding of the analysis. It's written in a clear style and assumes only very basic knowledge, in fact, I think you could understand much of it without even knowing calculus. I found the author's geometric exposition of aliasing to be particularly helpful.

I give the book 5 stars, but the potential reader should be aware that the book is serves as an introduction only. In the course of my analysis I discovered that some other "tricks" were necessary that could only be found in a more advanced DSP book. So, it might be helpful to have a more comprehensive reference at your side when it comes time to actually process your signals.
