Fabulous keepsake for the busy bride

I think this book is fabulous and it's the first thing I buy all my friends when they get engaged. The prompts and questions are easy to fill in and really create a fabulous keepsake. On pages that I didn't use I actually glued down paper of my own for pictures or journaling. Most of all I think that it's the easiest way to create a beautiful "scrapbook" of the beginning of your life together without excessive effort.
Most of all, it's a great way to beat the stress of wedding planning as it has you document all the wonderful thing that have brought you to this moment.

I love this book, I did a pretty good research before obtaining it. It has lots of pages to fill up, beautiful designs, spaces to stick pictures, questions easy to respond and it's very fun to read. I got married an year ago and I love going back to the book reading what I wrote before. I truly recommend it.

I received this book at my engagement, and I found it a beautiful way to keep track of memorable events throughout the process of planning my wedding. It's not a "to-do" list, but rather a way to remember all of the sweet and sentimental things that happen during this time. I just celebrated my first anniversary, and found myself flipping through the pages and remembering that time! The drawings are artfully rendered, and the quotes throughout the book bring to mind different aspects of marriage. Overall, this book was a treasure to have!

I received this journal 3 years ago as an engament gift. Today I have been married for two years and I can say is the best gift I received for my wedding. In this journal I have a record of all the details of my engament, wedding, bridal shower, rehersal dinner and honeymoon. Today I am buying for my best friend, so she can have a journal where to save all the special memories of such a beautiful time in her life.

This book is perfect for any bride-to-be. Amidst all the wedding planners, articles, and "how-to's", no other book allows you to expand your thoughts on the person you love and the events surrounding your special day. It's a great way to document your courtship, engagement, and wedding day all rolled up into one place. We look fondly to ours often!

I am a 10 year old and I like this book because it teaches me about Pedro's journey with Christopher Columbus. Pedro tells us what he did while sailing with Christopher Columbus. Take for example the time he tricked someone else into swabbing the deck while he sat back and watched. Also, the prayers written in the book gave me a mind movie. I can imagine myself there with Pedro on the wooden bed on the ship with my hands together, saying a prayer. I would recommend this book to other 10 year olds. They'll find it interesting.

Pedro's Journal, written by Pam Conrad, is about a boy who loved the sea. He went out to sea with Christopher Columbus to find the new land. The captain thought he would be useful because he can read and write. He goes back and forth from ship to ship each day. The weather is terrible. The storms are on and off. Finally they get there. They find that the Indians are very useful. So they bring some Indians aboard. It took them longer to get back to Spain. Finally they get back to Spain. The last place Pedro is seen is when he is walking up toward his mother's house. I would recommend this
book to a friend.

Pedro's Journal by Pam Conrad is a heartwarming story about trust. Pam really brought out the characters by using lot's of detail.

Pedro is a boy who went sailing with Christopher Columbus. He's the only person on the ship who knew how to read and write.

Pam kept you reading by her creative chapter endings. She changed font and size when writing about what the characters were saying and thinking.

Anyone who reads this book will say it's hard to put down. Don't miss this good chance to read this outstanding book.

Pedro's Journal was read by my 5th grade classes to learn more about Christopher Columbus and his journey. It was perfect for a class of mixed ability readers, it's history was well researched, and it engaged the students. We used it for a Literary Circle book. I highly recommend it for Social Studies, Language Arts, or an example of journal writing.

This devotional journal is another excellent tool to deepen your personal relationship with God. Each day (undated, so you take your time)contains:
1-A daily Scripture topic
2-An area where you rewrite the Scipture in your own words (very thought provoking!)
3-A few sentences of Beth's wisdom
4-Two different compilations of Scripture with a large area for you to write your own prayer/thoughts
Really helps you take the time to understand the Scripture in your own mind, and is great practice at allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart about God's Word-what it means to you personally and how He would have you apply it to your life.
As with most of Beth's other writings and journals-they're geared toward a free life in Christ; and HIS WORD WILL SET YOU FREE, as YOU ABIDE IN IT!
This has great tools and Scriptures within to help you live the life that is freed, filled with His Spirit-that you can surrender your heart to be the cleansed utensil to be used for His purposes and fruitful for His Kingdom! WHAT A BLESSING!

This book encapsulates the thought of the late Bishop Ken. He uses his common sense approach to life to help any homilist improve their preaching. This is a great reference and introduction.

If you belong to a tradition where a ten minute homily is more appreciated than a two hour one, you should buy this book. It belongs on the desk of every preacher And if you don't preach yourself consider sending it to your pastor, anonymously if need be. When Untener was assigned to teach homiletics at Saint John's Seminary near Detroit, he began to ask people what they liked and disliked about the homilies they heard. He collected thousands of comments and boiled these down to the 25 that are the heart of this book. Later, as bishop of Saginaw, he began the Saginaw Program: a series of very small groups where his priests and deacons could critique each other's homilies. All of his clergy eventually took part in one or another group, and he took part in them all. Such are the sources for this book. It is clear, concise, practical, impressive. It is short enough to be read at a sitting and important enough to be reread at least every year.. It is to preaching what Strunk's Elements of Style is to writing.

Perhaps the Best Guide for a Catholic Homilist
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-10
A friend of mine recently shared a quote with me which I believe was said by Jimmy Breslin. According to Breslin, the reason Catholic priests cannot preach is because they have never rebelled. Priests are trained to respect authority, not rebel. Breslin, on the other hand has been somewhat of a rebel, as his writings sometimes show, so he may have a point, but it is also a gross overstatement since there are many wonderful Catholic homilists. That being said, there are also many people who are dissatisfied with the preaching in Catholic churches and it is not due to disagreeing with Catholic teaching. It is due to poor preparation. It would be wonderful if all Catholic homilists read at least some of Kenneth Untener's PREACHING BETTER, a solid book about preaching by a beloved and experienced Catholic leader. If rebelliousness makes for a good writer and preacher, then the person of Kenneth Untener would also prove his point.

The late Bishop Kenneth Untener was loved by many because of his less than predictable approach to ministry. While he was criticized by some as being too liberal, his life was that of an effective follower of Christ. Everything he did was geared toward the people he served. He did not live in a bishop's house, preferring instead to live in rectories throughout his diocese. This enabled him to be part of the communities he shepherded and listen to the priests of his diocese. From what we know about Jesus Christ, he also traveled from place to place to be part of the community and always knew the needs of his leaders. Not a bad example to follow.

If there is one work that could become part of Bishop Untener's legacy, it is PREACHING BETTER. The book is geared toward the Catholic homilist, whether the homilist is a priest, deacon, catechist, or lay preacher, but I am certain that people of other denominations can appreciate his tips and wisdom. The reason I say it is geared toward Catholic preaching is due to the fact that Untener stresses the importance of the homily to the entire liturgy, and acknowledges that some of the sloppy practices that have developed in some Catholic churches stem from a belief that a good homily is nice, but not essential since many Catholics would attend Mass for the Eucharist anyway. He sees a clear connection between Eucharist and preaching the Word. He also believes that preaching is a means by which the scriptures can still be living and vital today. He gives suggestions for self review but also encourages preachers to have people who will critique homilies. He acknowledges that many people in Catholic ministry can have hectic preaching schedules between Sunday Masses, daily Mass, weddings, funeral, and other occasions that require a homily, but does not believe that so many demands are an excuse for poor preaching.

There are a number of wonderful homiletic books available, and many have been penned by experts in preaching and public speaking. For me, Untener's book does not have the expertise of some of the books that are available, but this is not a criticism since this volume has what many of these books lack. Untener's observations and hints seem to be based on his own ministry, his successes and his failures, and his desire to be an effective preacher.

Clear, practical and demandingly honest

Bishop Untener goes straight to the heart of what a preacher should be doing. He makes his readers take account of genuine feedback from 'folk in the pew' and offers practical solutions which respond to their comments but which also encourage the preacher to grow, develop and improve.

The material is set out in short punchy chapters which are easy to read but difficult to forget. Above all, the reader will come away sharing the author's deep admiration for the flow of God's Word through a well-prepared preacher in full control of a well-prepared homily.

This short book can upturn the bad habits of even the most experienced preacher and can teach the novice preacher some early profound principles. I cannot commend it too highly.

'With hindsight, maybe dressing up as Satan was a step too far, but sometimes I just cannot resist. When a consultant psychiatrist called me to book an appointment to "confront her Catholic guilt", then something inside my head just started shouting "Go on!! She's a psychiatrist! Do it!! Do the session dressed as Satan!!"'

If you like that extract, then you'll love this book. It's a series of bite-sized articles, case studies and "Tales from a neurolinguist's journal" drawn from Austin's practice as a hypnotherapist and former career as a psychiatric nurse.

The book comes with heavyweight endorsement from the likes of Steve Andreas and Bill O'Hanlon, who describes Austin as 'the British Milton Erickson' - although given the degree of irreverence for the psychiatric establishment and the willingness to satirise some elements of the NLP community, "the British Richard Bandler" might be a little bit closer to conveying the flavour of the book.

Published by Real People Press, the Mark Andreas hippy-art cover makes it look like classic NLP works such as 'Frogs Into Princes' and 'Trance-Formations', and it's good enough to stand in that company. There really is an insight on nearly every page. The psych nursing background gives Austin an unusual depth of knowledge of the oft-neglected 'neuro' part of NLP, which provides useful perspectives on disorders like OCD.

Many people will be familiar with the "That's so obvious - why didn't I notice that before?" moments that come thick and fast when you first encounter NLP. I'm pleased to say that after 10 years as an NLP trainer, this book could still give me plenty of those. Of course a decision-making process that uses movies is going to get better results than one restricted to stills! Damn!

Did I mention that the book is often laugh-out-loud funny? He got away with that "Satan" thing too - in fact the client was so pleased with the results that she paid about six times what he asked. One thing I'm taking away from it is to be braver in my changework sessions.

For my money this is the most significant NLP book of the last five years. Luckily it's also one of the most readable. More please!

NLP has taken a lot of heat over the years for not being "scientific". It's not! And, with that being said, Andrew shows us once again, that if you are willing to access the right states, NLP can be a tool to work seeming miracles. More than anything, Andrew demonstrates the willingness to adjust as wildly with his behavior as Bandler, Farrley, Erickson, etc. My hunch is that the "magic" is found in the state of the therapist, and NOT in the technique being utilized. That has been my own experience.

I've read it twice so far and learned lots both times. Prepare to be shocked, to laugh, to change, and to look at the world differently after you're done.

This book is wondefully laid out but it is oriented more for people who belong to reding groups or book clubs etc. If you just want a little book diary for yourself then do not buy this book. Do yourself a favor and buy a regular notebook but if you do belong to a group or like to discuss your books then this is an excellent buy.

This little notebook is an excellent journal for anyone who wants to take notes, keep track of or record the experience of the books they read.

The softcover and spiral-bound notebook offers a place to write down the title of each book, the author, the subject, comments about the book and discussion notes; as well as a place to rate the book read according to a system detailed in the first few pages. There's even a spot for a favorite quote from each book!

I would highly recommend this book diary for book club members as a tool to keep track of a book's plot, important highlights and character analysis to enhance their book club discussions. But, I think it would be just as beneficial to anyone who reads a lot of books and wants to remember certain details about those books.

Another bonus of this adorable book are the reference sections; including, but not limited to, subjects such as Best Coffee Table Book, The Most Useful Book I've Read, I'll Read Anything Written By, etc. These reference sections offer suggestions from other readers and also leave a place to add your own recommendation.

Thinking that writing notes on a piece of paper as I was reading was sufficient, I was hesitant to buy this book, but I'm so glad I did. I was not disappointed!

This set is perfect with a travel-sized booklet accompanying a good quality sketchbook. My son is a serious artist and just loves this! It is a great size for a child, also. The text is a nice one, especially considering its size. This is not for "young" children not serious about art as it isn't "kiddie" oriented. The set is for adults or teens, or seriously artistic children. My son thought this was his best holiday gift this year and he is 10.

My son is pleased that he finally has different types of mediums to use, and a book to show him how to utilize them properly. He is looking forward to using it, soon after he is done with all the video games from Christams! He is only 8, but has a great eye for detail, and I think this is definitely a good starter for his mature senses.

My son (19) is into art and sketching. I had bought other sketchbooks but they were cheap. This one is excellent, the paper is thick, is bound very well, the charcoal and pencils are made of high quality and last a long time. Don't waste your money on other cheaper/cheezy products, this is a keeper.

Some previous reviewers say this sketchbook has only around 170 pages, but under "Product Details" above, Amazon says this sketchbook has 224 pages. FYI.

I agree that these are great journals and sketchbooks. For some reason Amazon does not list the number of pages in the various Watson-Guptill sketchbooks, even though it is printed on the sticker. I have two versions of this book with the same ISBN number - one bought in 2001 with 224 pages and one bought in 2004 with 176 pages. Maybe Watson-Guptill has trimmed the size of the sketchbooks. So the most recent version has 176 neutral pH, nonyellowing archival-quality pages.

The texture and grain of the paper was really enjoyable to use, and I would consider this a great gift purchase to any aspiring journal writers or even artists. However, the major complaint I would have is the feeling that there aren't as many pages as originally anticipated. I was expecting over 200 sheets, but ended up with about 170 or so. Though this is not a big deal, but it would be advisable to list this someplace on the website and differentiate it from similar products of the same company.

Great product in most other regards.

Great bargain and the weight of the paper is enough to handle light watercolour washes. The paper is smooth and works great with ballpoint pens.

Durable, archival-quality, well-bound.

These make the best sketchbooks and journals. The binding is excellent and very durable. The paper is smooth and fine, a joy to write or draw on. For a two-week trip to France, I bought a Watson-Guptill sketchbook for use as a travel journal. This journal went everywhere with me, knocking around inside my totebag and being taken in and out of the bag many times a day for writing, and yet it arrived back home showing hardly any wear and is today my most valued souvenir of the trip. Every time I travel, I buy another of these wonderful sketchbooks. They're the best.
