It can be difficult to find a large calendar for a busy family with four children. I spend each December at the stores hoping to find the perfect blend of spaces for people with boxes big enough to write out their daily activities. This year I thought I'd try the Sandra Boynton calendar and am glad I did. With a space for each day, INCLUDING Saturday and Sunday and columns for four children it has been a perfect fit for us. So perfect, in fact, that I hope they are planning to do one exactly the same for 2009. If so, I'll continue to use this until we add another member to the family.

Greatest family calendar out there! Helps keep us organized and teaches the kids to track the calendar. Fits on kitchen wall. All you need to keep everyone knowing where they're supposed to be any given day.

I bought the 2008 calendar based on other reviews and I was disappointed. We have 2 young kids, but even with their activities (and mom's & dad's), the vertical column set-up leaves really small squares to write a few basic words. The stickers are cute but there's no room to put them because the squares are so small - and there weren't that many "sports" stickers suprisingly. Plus, I don't know if you're supposed to use a special pen with the glossy paper, but if you use a regular ballpoint, the impressions bleed onto the next page. The monthly pictures are cute because we really like the Boynton books, but other than that, I'm sorry to say that I'm going to look for a different calendar.

With the vertical arrangement of the month and numbers/ boxes that are large enough to be read from accross the room, this calendar is perfect for me. No more missed dental appointments and forgotten birthdays. The kids love using the enclosed stickers to decorate special days. I do wish this calendar came with a pocket or an easy way to attach important items for a month (tickets, coupons, etc.)

Love this product, it is so handy at keeping tabs on our busy schedule. The only drawback, I can see, is that it just fits our family size and we don't have a big family. If we had one more child, we would run out of spaces.

This novel brings you to the late 1700's and offers the drama of a modern romance with all the trials of war while in another era and country.
Twists and turns along with an easy/quick history of early Poland will keep the pages turning. Quickly went to buy the sequel before starting a new book b/c I was up in arms to find out the happenings of these compelling characters.

This book is a page-turner right from the beginning. I loved reading in this time period when men spoke to women like this (from page 23):

"See the two meadow flowers, the yellow and the violet? One is as different from the other as day from night. Yet who will say that one is more beautiful? Oh, a fool might. But only a fool... But do you know what may determine the desirability of one over the other?... The fragrance!"

Be still my heart! If you love that kind of subtle romance, you will love this book.

Anna shows such strength despite the overwhelming tragedies (one after the other) she faces in her young life. And even though she is a Countess, she is very down-to-earth and sensitive to those "under her" although it was a no-no for those of such high society. Her tenderness and innocense makes her so very likable.

The book goes back and forth between family life and what's politically going on in Poland during the late 1700s with the underlying romance throughout. You're always wondering about what will finally happen with Jan Stelnicki. At no point was this book boring!!!

I loved it.

I loved this book. There are so few novels on the market about Poland and Polish history (I don't know of any others!). This is indeed a rare find. The characters are well developed, the descriptions of locations and activities are wonderfully detailed and passionately written. The setting and content about the significant historical moments are woven in expertly. It really is a history lesson embedded in a very fast-moving and dramatic story. Yes, sometimes it may be a bit overly dramatic, but I really enjoy that rich, gossipy style. So cool that it is based on REAL journal entries. These characters come alive and will stay with you well after you are done reading. Great ending, too.

Looking forward to reading Chrimson Sky.

I found this historical fiction text to be absolutely enthralling! It has not only provided me with hours of enjoyable, page-turning reading, but has also given me great insight into my Polish ancestry and heritage. The strength, spirit, and heart of the Polish people--MY people--is wonderfully portrayed within the pages of this book. I'm so looking forward to receiving Mr. Martin's sequel, Against a Crimson Sky. I'm sure I'll not be disappointed!

I found the book very engaging. I loved the characters and can't wait to find out what happens next.

Ordered this book before our Jan. trip to Kauai. We have been on this island many times, but this book gave us lots of info about trails. It tells you the difficult trails, the easy trails, how to get there, what to know before you start, etc. Really a very good buy for hikers who want to see more of this beautiful island.

Guess where my wife wants to take me on her summer vacation? Hint: she likes lush resorts with hiking opportunities.

I've been to the other islands of Hawaii several times, but never to Kauai. I don't need the usual 50 pages of cajoling to enjoy myself that most guidebooks feature, and in this era of goooogle, I certainly don't need out-of-date hotel listings. This is a book crammed with info that I may find useful when I get there, concerning the rugged activities that make flying all those hours worthwhile, written in a plain and honest prose. I'd venture to say that this is the most convincing guidebook I've ever encountered.

Another reviewer complains about the absence of maps. I'd agree that lack fo maps would be a problem, except that the maps one finds in other guidebooks are almost always next to useless. My advice: get a real full-sized map and correlate!

We returned this year with their new third edition for 2008 and found remarkable changes. Hiking the Kalalau Trail again.....was even better the second time around. When it comes to organization and finding ez access to all the cool trails, this one is the winner. The strategies for getting around this beautiful island were incredibly useful.

Have only made it partially through the book and am very impressed with the outline and the depth of knowledge of the subject. My wife and i are returning to PoiPou on the south shore at the end of April, 2008 and we are making daily plans from this book.

A must to throw into your backpack when heading out to the trails. All of the information you will need to plan a day of hiking, biking, or paddeling is in this one little book.

This book is simply fantastic. Yes, there are some old or simplified opinions, but as for tool for explaining how the airplane flies, invaluable.

I remember reading and re-reading this text as a young boy--fascinated by everything and anything related to airplanes--flying imaginary airplanes in my head with the admonition to always 'watch my angle of attack'. When I finally got my pilot's license years later, I credit this book with doing the most to make me a safe and confident pilot (second only to my great instructor.) It dispels the popular belief in the general public that the rudder turns the plane and the throttle makes it go faster, and explains to pilots the reality of flight: the elevator controls angle of attack and hence airspeed, the ailerons control the turn, and the rudder is primarily a means of correcting for physical phenomenon such as adverse yaw. Even today the largest killer of pilots is the stall/spin, the result of hoping that pulling back on the stick will make the ground go away, or that more inside rudder will fix that overshoot on final. Yes, Mr. Langewiesche repeats the point again and again, but it's worth repeating: the stick controls the angle of attack, and if you don't exceed the critical angle of attack, the plane won't stall. If the plane doesn't stall, it doesn't spin either. It's that simple, and that profound.

Yes, the physics and writing style are outdated (read Smith's "Illustrated Guide to Aerodynamics" for a more complete yet still readable explanation of the physics of lift, and why Bernoulli's 'suction' and Langewiesche's 'downwash' are just two different ways of looking at the same phenomenon.) And if you're flying a modern unstable fighter or fly-by-wire jumbo jet Langewiesche's simple concepts break down. For today's modern GA aircraft, however, this is still the most readable text there is for explaining not how an airplane flies, but how to fly them.

To begin, the entire Amazon experience was great. The product itself was the icing on the cake. Any aspiring pilots, or veterans, should consider this a "must read" publication. It clarifies many misled bits of advice, about flight, and makes knowledge of aircraft easily understood.

This is a wonderful book, it's written for the Student pilot. But, it's a great read for all pilots. It covers the big picture and the little things that you may not think of, or may have forgotten. This book may help the new CFI to teach different techniques to the student pilot.

This book is entertaining in many ways: like, if you consider some of the olde-worlde wisdom quaintly phrased, and the author's convictions, sometimes quite erroneous, confidently stated.

It is somewhat useful, as it does give some solid pointers about what to look out for (avoid) and what to do (technique) and what common pilot errors are, including some home-grown practical remedies and prevention.

When the author is writing based on his experience he is insightful, and you will gain a lot from his experience. When the author is trying to educate you on theory he evidently does not understand, he is not dangerous, but may leave you with the wrong idea about how things fly. For example, his vigorous dismissal of the fact that pressure differential between top and bottom surfaces wing causes lift, and his counter assertion that the wing stays up because it pushes the air down, is plain bull. The wings would then need to be at 45 degrees to the plane's longitudinal axis, and the airspeed would need to be humongous if that were true. Also, such a plane would never stall except at low speeds, and would be impossible to stall at high speed :)

The book is cheap. So, as long as you know enough physics to determine that the author does not, you will find value in anecdotal and experienced wisdom.

And, after all, you will own a classic that has fooled generations of pilots into buying it. I did.

Now I'm convinced.

After reading this book, my main concern was "can I do this". After reading, I'm not only excited, but truly convinced that almost anyone with a brain can do what the book reveals.

I just finished reading the book and I'm beyond stunned! It's undoubtedly the most actionable, simple, surefire program I have ever seen. You could not pay me 10 times to give it back!

I read so many books on breaking into the adult film business...I even spent $1,297 on this course from www.adultfilmmaking.com, the "only" online adult film school, which was a total rip off. This book by Ray West and one other one that I downloaded off the internet for $80 have been the ONLY two books I've read that actually give legitimate, usable information on how make money in this business. I don't understand the negative reviews on this book. Yes, the book has grammical and spelling errors but if readers aren't able to overlook that for the information it offers then they probably should stick to their 9 to 5 job anyway. If you're interested in getting into the adult business profitably and successfully, you need all the resources you can get. This book is one valuable resource to get you started. If you're a bible-thumper looking for ways to condemn this industry then you're probably the ones who are degrading the content of this book. Why waste your time? Get this book if you want to make money in this business.

The book was great to read and very informative. the speed of Delivery was also a plus. It was at my door with in a week. can't complain about that. GOOD JOB!

This book was a blast to read. I heard about Ray West from a forum as being a guru to adult film making. After reading, I know why! Eventhough his book is 2001, I am going after his new stuff. I just can't imagine as a film maker how much fun this book has brought to my life. Ray West, you are a true genius.

As a busy professional, it's easy to fall into the trap of tending to the task and not so much the relationship. This book brings me back to that important balance. Chapter six, "Family", was extremely useful and helped me understand that employees have needs that, many times, surpass their pay check. I was better able to work with an employee who had special family needs. This book is filled with practical, relevant, and usable advice on keeping employees engaged. This book is an essential read for leaders today. If you care about developing your people you will understand them better after reading LOVE 'EM or LOSE 'EM.

The Noble Wilds shows the deep nature of animals. And that touched me so much!

Not really what I expected. Pretty simplistic commentary accompanying several pictures of "the Wilds". Peaceful and serene, but not really enlightening at all. It looks as if the Supreme Master lives in a beautiful place surrounded by the glory of nature, and I do respect her reverence for life in all forms, and the interrelationship between all of us and the earth. Again though, I did not find this book inspiring in any way, and was rather disappointed by it.

The Noble Wilds touches my heart to see how our feathery animal friends can be so lovely, considerate and protective towards their partner and children; such a humanly behavior. It also makes me treasure our Mother Nature magnificent works even more! Great book with beautiful photos and in simple English! The Noble Wilds

Wow, this is what I can say. Her words are truly precious wisdom. I read over and over again. It opens me up to a new concept of life. The wonderful animals are like us. Why can't we share our world with them as another co-habitant? I strongly suggest to readers.

I am a Professional Speaker and Trainer who LOVES to garden! On the weekend I planted many geraniums. Usually, every fall I take cuttings from the summer geraniums and put them in soil to root for planting in the spring. One of the geraniums I planted had many blossoms on it but it was extraordinary - some blossoms are pink and some are orange. I have never seen this before. Usually a geranium simply displays one colour of blossom. I thought to myself that this phenomenon in my garden was indeed nature being truly miraculous.
At the beginning of one of our distance learning classes, I told the class about the miraculous geranium. I then mentioned to them that we human beings "are also nature". We come from nature and are part of everything magical on this planet. The students agreed. We teach folks how to be business and life coaches. Then I said "If a geranium in nature can produce such a gorgeous miracle then surely we as human beings can also produce such miracles within ourselves." Once again, the students agreed. In fact, one student was quite overwhelmed with joy because I believe that she had almost given up on some of the people in her life. The geranium story gave her hope that the people around her could indeed change their "colours" and be more noble human beings.

When I read Master Ching Hai's book The Noble Wilds, I cried with a deep sense of love surging from my heart. This amazing woman who is a great spiritual teacher, artist and humanitarian is showing us that these precious creatures of the wild, just like the magical geranium, are indeed our best friends. They are to be cherished. Through Her book Master Ching Hai has taught me how to reconnect with the animals in the wild. I talk to the birds in my garden now. I don't even care if the neighbours hear me! Even the delightful little green lizards stop and listen to me thanking them for bringing so much happiness to our garden. I tell them that their babies are safe in our garden because we do our best to not kill any living being in our garden.

The bottom line of this review is that nature is astonishing in its teachings. All we need to do is open our hearts and minds to listen to the flowers, birds and all creatures - to breathe in the love that they so willingly share and then breathe out that love to bring more peace and safety to this planet.

I can only ditto what other reviewers have said; this is an amazing book. It's a great way to gently walk back up to something you might have run away from in school. The author ties together the math; its creation and its applications in a way that will fascinate you even if you're not a math geek. Beautifully done.

A beautiful written and illustrated gentle, user-friendly reference guide to mathematics from the invention of numbers, counting and reckoning up through linear differential equations, touching on all of the important signposts in between. The explanations are clear, concise and accompanied by excellent diagrams. Elementary calculus is covered especially well. The foray into Topology, fractals, and symbolic logic was an unexpected bonus with a modern touch. The very final section on probability theory with a calculus approach to probability density functions stands out as exceptional.

On the negative side, I expected more on infinite numbers, topology (which was only two pages of diagrams and basic definitions only), and vector analysis, which seems to have stopped at cross products.

But despite these minor points, it is a very useful and up-to-date reference guide for non-mathematicians and others up through the calculus. Four stars.

Just adding another 5 star review. This book spends 600 pages on high school mathematics, and 400 on calculus/analysis. It also tosses in things not often seen before college: set theory, logic, and combinatorics. It is a history, survey, and poor man's reference.

While I always enjoyed math and science, I didn't particularly have time to "enjoy" the process of learning, thanks to our wonderful public school system, which focuses kids on getting a passing grade instead of actually learning something. This book is a wonderful cure for the apathy towards learning that is so prevalent today.

"Mathematics" is a great refresher and a good starting point for someone who wants to study math just for the sake of learning, not necessarily with some utilitarian goal in mind. The books is well put together, there is an abundance of interesting facts, illustrations and historical references that make it quite educational. This is not an exhaustive reference, but it gives a great overview both from a thematic standpoint, as well as providing a historical overview of the development of mathematics as we know it today.

The book is very easy to read, and to follow; one doesn't have to read it in its sequence, reader can pick and choose the subjects that he is most interested in.

I think it could also be used as a teaching tool for junior high/high school age kids that are interested in math (I might be thinking of some other planet) and want to go beyond the curriculum.

I bought this book back in fourth or fifth grade. And it became my favorite ever since.

This book is a reference book. But it is VERY tempting and fun to just sit on your couch and browse though it.

I learned too much from this book. It tells so many things. It starts off with simple ARITHMETIC. And gets through algebra, geometry, trigonometry, differential and integral calculus, fractal geometry, linear algebra... And many more things.

I used to take this book everywhere with me, despite its dictionary size. It truly is a forest worth exploring.

It even includes some historical and biographical information.

You get a whole different, more amateur feel when you read this. This is not written in the professional LaTeX or TeX format or font. I am no idea how it was written. Though, it is not traditional math book typesetting. But, with all honesty, for this book, I like that a lot.

I recommend this book to every type of person. Mathematicians, people with interest in math, people who need review, people who need some aid, and even people who don't like math or are looking for some inspiration.

Worth all fifty dollars. (Well, that is what I paid back in the day).

This is an outstanding field guide, easy to use and understand.I live in the mountains of western North Carolina and many species of birds migrate through here and also there are many year round species that I have identified with this bird guide. I highly recommend this guide if your looking for a bird field guide that is easy to tote in the field for a quick reference for any unusual birds you may want info on readily.

Love my new Sibley Field Guide. It's better than the old standard guide I've used for years. It's easy to navigate, and I love the varied views of individual birds, flying, perched etc.. It stays on my kitchen table for constant reference!!

I owned this bird book before my purchase from Amazon. The two copies I recently purchased from Amazon were for gifts. The Shibley field guide is my favorite because it also includes the color configuration of the underside of the bird's wings which other authors don't include.

I love the Sibley guides. The one criticism that I have heard and will agree with is that some of the drawings are a bit "dull" in comparison to other guides. Having said that, this has never deterred from my ability to identify a bird in the field. I both watch and study birds and absolutely adore these guides. Everyone who I've spoken to agrees that these books are excellent. Probably the best feature to me is how each species is depicted in flight as well as percing. Arrows highlight key features to look for. Juvelniles and females depicted. Other unique characteristics noted or depicted (e.g. diagnostic flight patterns or other movements). Wonderful! (Western edition too).

My Uncle, G. Max White, gave my son a hand-crafted peanut butter feeder that he'd made and stained. He explained to his great-nephew, in specific detail, the kinds of birds he would start to see. We hung the feeder outside my son's window and within three days the birds started to arrive. My son was elated! We decided to add a birdseed feeder, a woodpecker feeder, a finch feeder, and a hummingbird feeder to his collection. We put a songbird clock on the wall next to his window so he could compare the birds he saw with it until we received the field guides we ordered from Amazon. He was in heaven!

We purchased the National Geographic guide and The Audubon Backyard guide, but THE SIBLEY FIELD GUIDE TO BIRDS of EASTERN NORTH AMERICA is by far the best. Everything about each bird is all on one page. The illustrations, "(more than 4200 total)" are smaller but plenty large enough to see each bird's features.

We are able to see the bird's appearance from juvenile to adult and breeding or non-breeding. We love the way we can look at the characteristics of the bird, the detailed descriptions and a map showing where the bird thrives all on the same page. It is informative and concise.

My son has discovered a vast array of birds in our area. He has been intrigued by their characteristics and songs. Uncle Max's love for birds and nature, and the spirit that has been passed on to my son through his artwork, lit the spark! My son's enthusiasm for bird watching has been fueled by referencing David Sibley's meticulous and inspiring work, THE SIBLEY FIELD GUIDE TO BIRDS OF EASTERN NORTH AMERICA. Together, G. Max White and David Sibley have encouraged my son's passion for birds; a love that will last a lifetime!

This is one of the best calendars out there if you have a busy family. We all like being able to see at a glance who will be doing what on any given day, and it makes scheduling for the family at a glance much easier. This is a calendar that I have gotten year after year sense getting it as a gift the first time around. I also enjoy that it begins the "year" by the school year (beginning in Aug. I believe it was) - not January to January like many calendars out there, so you actually can get a full years use out of it instead of having to switch out calendars during the holiday season when there are already a ton of things going on.

I heard so much about this product and finally bought it last year. But once I got it I wasn't very impressed with it. The idea is good, but needs more work. There should have been more detailed classification of tasks. and more space for customizing etc.
Its okay for < $5. Not worth the price.

This is really super! A column for Mom and four others for family members. The days are in a vertical line with each family member's activities written in horizontally. I only wish there were more of those adorable stickers! It's only February and we've used a lot of them for dance class, school trip, library, etc!

Buy it once and you'll reorder every year as long as you've got kids in the house. Perfectly simple and practical. This calendar will be used daily. It's the best of its kind that I've seen over the years.

This calander provides the best space for busy family to know where everyone is at on that day. I have ours centrally located so that no one is surpised by overlapping events. We are a family of 6 so my youngest son and I share a column, since he too young to go places without me.
