Odd style choices. Strange tempo choices. Only one tune in the set worth playing with.

Comments: I personally would like to see the destruction of large teaching institutions. The damage that is done by the practice of forcing young emotionally underdeveloped children to congrate into unruly unnatural unprotected jungles is horrendous. Children should not congregate in large crowds until they are emotionally sound and mature or near so. Somewhere possibly near high school age.

**A childs basic need is for emotional and psychological protection.

The moment you strip that child, make them vulnerable, subtract that child from the proximity, safety and love of it's mother, force that child to fend for themselves at such an emotionally vulnerable age, the psychological and emotional damage is already begun. Forcing a young child (multiplied by millions) to face continuous fear or anxiety in a place where they feel they have absolutely no control, where they feel 100% vulnerable, unprotected is a crime against humanity. The psychological damage is staggering. A child raised on a shakey foundation is going to be a human being standing on a shakey foundation.

I bought this book due to the fact I am a direct descendant of the family that is the topic of this book. I have also read much of the Harwood Diaries themselves and was curious to see the author's interpretations. There are many parts of this book which are just verbatim quotations strung together from the Harwood Diaries. In other parts of the book the author seems determined to prove his theory of hatred and jealousy amongst the Harwoods. this is not the true story by any means. The true story is told in the Harwood Diaries themselves. As with any family there were squabbles but they did not dominate the relationships between the Harwoods as the author suggests. The author fails to get the name of the first Harwood in the United States correct as well which surprised me, given the considerable writings on this subject available in the Southern Vermont area. While I agree that the book is entertaining in its own right, from a factual standpoint it leaves a lot to be desired.

This book is NOT helpful. It is poorly organized, full of typos, and not useful. I am returning it.
It's basically just a list of public campgrounds, with no information about location or real reviews, just a list of the amenities or facilities nearby.

The idea is totally great - writing Vermont history like a storybook. Don't we all wish our school history books had been like that? But I was shocked that a book written so recently, and for children, would portray the Abenaki Indians as bloodthirsty cavemen with "crude weapons" who tortured people because "that was the Abenaki way." The opening chapter is so biased against the Abenaki, it hurt me to read it. While I can't know for sure that no Abenaki ever tortured anyone, I'd just read a whole slew of Abenaki history that had not a single reference to such a thing. In the same chapter, the author talks about the French fomenting the Abenaki to massacre the English, but does not use the emotionally charged word "massacre" to describe the same types of actions by the English.

The book also seemed fairly inaccurate to me in other ways - for instance if you read the section on ancient peoples, the author says archeologists think the paleo, archaic, and woodland Indians were three completely unrelated groups, two of whom mysteriously disappeared, rather than three historic periods. My understanding is that most archeologists think the Abenaki of today are descended from the archaic Indians of Vermont's past, who were in turn descended from the paleoindians.

While I love the idea of writing history as a story so that children can enjoy it, please stick to the facts! Please be balanced, instead of portraying whole ethnic groups as somehow more barbaric and bloodthirsty. This book seems to be in every bookstore in Vermont and I'm really saddened by it, because I suppose that means scads of Vermont children are being taught Vermont history as "English good, French and Indians evil."
