This is one of the best location guides for fishing I have ever read. They list the Tackle shop and resturants for the fisherman, plus things for the rest of the family to do, to make a fishers trip a family vacation. If you are going to fish the Delaware valley this book is a must.

What is this book about?? Have you prejudged it?

Review Date: 2007-06-08
This is a great book that doesn't srop coming at you. A book written by Jonathan Kellerman, who is a Child Psychiatrist from UCLA and now he has taken what he knows about what we call "The Bad Seed" type children to "Demon Seed", and combines them with unusual murders and crimes against nature that you and I would never think about!
Jonathan, also a PhD graduate of U.of Miss. and has written these stories as a basic series who stars a "Pshycologist-[...]" named Alex Delaware that involves himself into these crimes against nature and trowels his way to the marrow of your bones, and is probably the greatest Detective since Mr. Sherlock Holmes as he does not bother with deducting..as it doesn't work with the twisted minds of those who kill or maim for absolutely no reason at all, as they are pushed by the abnormalities of their chemically unbalanced minds.
Alex has beeen the subject crime solver in 21 of Kellerman's writings and this is one that tops the charts.
He had a French Bull dog named "Spike" but left us by the 13th story, "GONE", and was soon replaced by "Blanche" a female French Bull dog", which is me mum's name!(How sweet & thoughtful!)
He does carry on this "in and out" (some expression huh?) love affair with a french-woman, who's name does escape me at this late (or early hour), but the main thrust of his books with Mr. Delaware is the twisted-mind plots and twists that he brings into his stories from his studies of the childhood mind which grows into a twisted adult mind, so keep your lights on when you get into this one as you will hear the settling of the house creaks and the bumps that go on for no reason, or, is there a reason that you are not noticing??
I am enthralled by Mr. Kellerman's stories and his deliveries, plots, and just about most chapters in his books..but, I fear that there are people that think in these ways!..It's like Hitchcock's folks, such as "Norman Bates"..the base or foundation of these stories are: IT CAN HAPPEN!!! This is not "Godzilla" or "Jurrassic Park" which will never and can never happen, but, this, oh, yes, this can and yes...it does happen...much too much, and this book will show you the whys of who done it? NO!! but why did they do it??? BRRRRR!
This is not for a young person, so, Parents, be aware of where you lie this book down, please! If you have kids 14-16 or so, if not younger, this is not a story for them..actually, I feel that "Charlotte's Web" is a top story for both kids and us adults, and maybe we adults should keep our minds and desires in the way of "Charlotte's Web"...I reccommend that too!
If your minds can stand it...buy it! You'll NOT be sorry, will you?
Have a quiet and pleasant night and sleep deeply and dream of nicer things...keep your nights for rest and recuperation.
But, as the owner of this book I still say you must read it and Jonathan's other 20 or more "Alex Delaware" stories!
Thank you for giving me your time and mind!

This book was very easy to follow. I found it to be historically accurate and highly informative. From the very beginning the author has the reader very captivated. The book gave a complete view on not just the battle but how the people of that era lived. It gave a good human side to a major event in our history. Whoever reads this book will appreciate both sides of this war. And most importantly, this book stimulates the sense of heritage, pride, and the importance of preserving our valuable history. The statistics were also helpful for me, because for the first time I saw the correct numbers of troops involved in the Battle of Fort Mercer. This book was well done.

Why Christians feel the lack of assurance ?
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.

I have read this book about 2 years ago and about to read it again. J.C. Ryle's book on holiness has tackled one of the most evaded issues of all time, that is SIN. On how the grieviousness of sin has been diminished even by Christians. He cautioned about Christianity that teaches a bit about Christ, something about grace, something about faith, something about repentance, and something about holiness that are not the real thing in the Bible. He continues to challenge those who view Paul's letters as nothing but doctrinal, to review it again for there's a great number of practical directions about the Christian duty in every aspect of life. Ryle also tackled about assurance, and the reason why some Christians feel the lack of assurance. Then there's also the cheap form of Christianity being discussed which most of the church members including me is guilty of violating in one way or another. I say there's a lot more to learn from this book. For me it is a great source of inspiration, and a great reminder of how we should act as a Christian.

an interesting, summary rundown of many aspects of the poems

This book is for general readers of Homer's epic poems. It provides long, summary rundowns of the poems from the various academic points of view. The author himself is a moderate on the subject of Homer and gives the impression that he is basically good-natured and open to all theories and so forth. One long chapter that is very interesting is a summary of the allegorizing of the Iliad and the Odyssey from classical times through the 18th century. He goes through each book of both poems and talks about the scenes that were the favorites of the allegorizers and he gives summaries as well of what each of the more famous commentators thought each episode meant. He has a long chapter summarizing the academic debate over whether the poems were written by one poet or many, etc. (The author himself comes down on the side of 'one poet', but he is not an ideologue about it...) The opening chapter describes all the 'Troy Stories' starting from the 1st century on up through the middle ages and Renaissance. There's a misc. chapter with sections covering, for instance, the History of Homer, the Anthropology of Homer, and the Geography of Homer (in this section he talks about some of the more eccentric theories of where Troy actually was and where Odysseus' travels actually took him...such as you would find in a more recent book like WHERE TROY ONCE STOOD by Iman Wilkins...) Overall this is an informative book for the general reader on many aspects of the poems, and even if you don't agree with the author's views (or even the general, rather sterile, academic approach of these areas of study) you can still get valuable information between and behind the lines. For instance, George Chapman's translations of the Iliad and the Odyssey from the days of Shakespeare come in for some snickering type criticism (for their allegorizing and Chapman's stated attempt to make Homer's "mysticke meaninge cleare"), but reading about those translations in this book made me want to go out and find an edition of Chapman's translations and read them for myself...

In addition to the "Instructions" given to Governor Johan Printz, this book contains court records from New Sweden, correspondence from Gov. Printz, and information relative to the Swedish colonists' relations with the Dutch. Furthermore, it contains several valuable photographs of critical documents, places, and historical markers.

The first (and only one I know) study of this playwright

A detailed look at the life and works of a playwright who seeks to reinvent and add life to drama, experimenting with a wide variety of dramatic structures and treatments. As a dramatist who often gets inspiration from the pulse of society and who sees theater as having a therapeutic effect on social problems, Van Italie is a fascinating figure. I'd like to find more about this writer/playwright. The book only whetted my appetite for more.

Anthony F. C. Wallace, like his father, Paul A. W. Wallace, is an acknowledged authority on the Lenni Lenape, or Delaware, and this book is one of his finest. It tells the story of the enigmatic Teedyuscung fairly, accurately, and (at times) grippingly.

Interestingly, the flow of the book reflects the uneven, back-and-forth fortunes of Teedyuscung and his people in eighteenth century America, which can be somewhat dizzying for some readers. But it is well worth the effort, and the persevering reader will be rewarded.

The maps that are included in the volume are so helpful that one might wish there were more, but that fault is easily overlooked.

Paulding, Washington Irving's collaborator, has long since slipped into neglect, but this first novel by the NY author is very much part of the first flowering of American literature in the early 1820's. Published within only a few months of Cooper's THE PIONEERS, it is a much more readable work.

A unique guide to the Mid-Atlantic's best fly fishing spots
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 1999-01-08
Members of Trout Unlimited (TU) have had the pleasure of reading Ann McIntosh's "Budget Angler" in "Trout" magazine for a number of years. Her long awaited book won't disappoint TU members and, likely, a whole new group of fans.

"Mid-Atlantic Budget Angler" offers something often hard to find in flyfishing literature: useful information. Ms. McIntosh describes some of the region's best flyfishing spots, some well-known, others not so well known. She describes stream conditions, gives understandable directions and offers tips on fishing conditions, stream idiosyncracies, places to stay and much more.

For flyfishers seeking practical information on flyfishing in the Mid-Atlantic region, this book may well become the bible.
