Hi
I'm using my boyfriends login, but I wanted to say what a great job Cindy did with this book. It shows that she put a lot of time and effort in research, with so many great little stories about life in Salem past!! For anyone who enjoys a look back in time, when things were a lot simpler, this is the book for you!! Cindy is amazing in the way she is able to tell a story, with great pictures to boot!! It is with good reason that she was chosen as President of the Salem Historical Society!! Books like her's should be required reading in classrooms, as well as a great way to spend a cold Connecticut evening!!

A wonderful Jack London classic. Beautifully illustrated with the colorful artwork of Fletcher Martin. A great introduction by Edmund Gilligan. This oversized book, with heavy cloth boards and green illustrative graphics and gold lettering, is a great addition to any classic library collection.

I have tried many of the recipes in this book. Most are simple to make and all are delicious. This is my favorite cookbook (and I have many) and it is a must for any seafood lover. Try the Block Island swordfish ( very simple with onions and bacon the only other ingredients besides the fish.) My husband says this one is right up there with sex. My favorite is the Pacific Shrimp. I sub asparagus for the peppers as above husband can't do sweet peppers. It is yummy. You will not be disappointed with this book.

This book was read to me as a child, and now I am buying it for my baby. I still have my copy tucked away somewhere. The pictures are beautiful. I want my daughter to appreciate nature, and this book, I hope, will be a favorite of hers. I reccomend it!

Anticipating a trip to the New York City and area, this book certainly has taken the scare out of visiting an incredibly large city. "Serendipitous Outings Near New York City" simplifies the trip and gives the reader an opportunity to visit New York City with ease.
Harrison and Rosenfeld intended this book for all walkers - experienced trail hikers, antique hunters, nature lovers, as well as slow walkers that just love to browse and enjoy conversations with those they meet. The book starts off with the "Deserted" Village in the Allaire State Park of New Jersey. The authors give a brief history, description and when the village is open. They explain that guided tours are available if one so desires, but they also encourage self-guided tours. After the walk, they suggest a trek to the Atlantic Ocean where another small town exists.
This is only one of the many walking trips that the authors suggest. They include an easy to follow map and there is no doubt they have trekked the streets and areas themselves. They say things like "Before leaving Stonecrop, be sure to walk on a small path through the woodland garden: Azaleas, rhododendrons, and other shade-loving plants have been carefully placed to blend harmoniously with this natural habitat. Nearby is a pond surrounded by lilies and groupings of..." How enticing is that! With descriptions like this, one can't help but wander on the path.
I'm looking forward to using this book on my trip to the area. At first I wasn't anticipating visiting some of the areas which include New Jersey, Long Island, the Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. However, after perusing this book, the travel plans will have to include these areas.

"..a month-by-month chronicle of events in one woman's life, in her Connecticut house set in a meadow bounded by a rushing brook and hills covered with maples and hemlocks. It tells about her neighbors, her hisband and their visiting children and grandchildren; about winter nights by the fire with books and handiwork, summer days in the garden or on the not-too-distant beach;.."

This innovative book is a must for those who like to shop in Connecticut. It tells you where to go, how to get there, and what you will find when you arrive. Ms. Habib is truly on to something, and should consider expanding to other areas such as Long Island and New Jersey. After you read this book, you will wonder how you ever went shopping in Fairfield County without it. If you like to shop and cannot live without a Hagstrom Map, then you have to have this book!

-- If you're interested in fishing along the Connecticut.
Author travels the Connecticut River from source to sea mostly by canoe, some kayak segments and a few powerboat trips. This is not a continuous river trip -- he does it in segments over time, but he does indeed cover essentially the entire river.
If you're planning a trip on the Connecticut this will inspire you and it serves as a good companion to the Connecticut River Boating Guide:
