Sociology and Anthropology lecturer Galit Ailon presents Global Ambitions and Local Identities: An Israeli-American High-Tech Merger, an extensive case study of a successful Israeli high-tech company's merger with an American competitor. The example offers an opportunity to dissect at length the social and personal effects of mergers, not to mention an account of what really happens behind the balance sheets. Global Ambitions and Local Identities has a decidedly scholarly bent, and its scrutiny of personal viewpoints and human reactions is especially insightful. Particularly recommended for business college libraries and reference shelves.

This is one of the most informative books I have read in years. First, it is authored by professors of political economy who write with a minimum of academic jargon and make difficult concepts accessible to non-specialists. Second, by synthesizing data from diverse sources these experts clarify for the lay reader how finance and politics are manipulated by elites to seize and hold onto power and wealth. Third, it presents their original concepts of "breadth" investment and "depth" investment, two processes which explain alternating periods of "peace process" and war and which help the reader penetrate the fog and spin put out by elites and the media they control. Fourth, these populist professors make their points with a dry wit reminiscent of Veblen's skewering of the 'leisure class'. Finally, and with impressive specificity, they expose the tricks used by powerful Israelis to enrich themselves at the expense of Israeli taxpayers and to transform that once egalitarian society into a plutocracy.
This book has been met by dead silence from the wealthy crooks it exposes. Like Kissinger ducking war-criminal accusations by Hitchens, these usually combative and litigious billionaires hope to quietly bury this brilliant book. I predict it will not be reviewed by elite-dependent media and academic journals - and my advice is to buy your copy now, before all remaining stock is bought up and quietly pulped.

I have read this book and found it to be full of well documented information. Evangelist Ted Weiland is very maticulus and very streight forward in his writing. It is a very well indexed and documented book, so what is stated can be checked out. I give it 5 stars.

I found this book for helpful for providing evidence of polytheism in Ancient Israel. It's not easy reading or for the faint of heart.

This short biography is another success in the Great Lives series. The author surveys Golda Meir's life from childhood through premiership to statehood elder. There is plenty of fascinating information on her part in the formation of the state of Israel, her role as diplomat, and her leadership as prime minister during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. While brief, this biography serves as an introduction for young people and adults to the influence and impact of Gold Meir in Israel, the Middle East and the world.

I didn't read the book, but I saw the play with Valerie Harper as Golda. Just outstanding! Unbelievable how one person can perform with that kind of range of emotions nonstop for 95 minutes.
And it kills so many myths at the same time: It kills myths how things were in "British Palestine" in the 20's when Golda Meir came from Milwaukee, WI. How the actual signing of the Declaration of Independence happened, the trip she made to King Abdullah of Trans Jordan 2 weeks before the signing to avoid war, the 56 war, the 67 war, the attempt to retire, which she did after the 67 war, and how she was drawn back into politics and of course elected Prime Minister and led Israel during the 1973 Yom Kippur war. The bulk of the show centers around that war and how frustrating it was for her to have to deal with the lame ducks Kissinger and Nixon (this was less than 1 year before Nixon resigned because of Watergate), and how they made the war longer than necessary. The way Valerie Harper imitated Kissinger's voice, the slow drawl of Mr. Kissinger and his stupid, stupid remarks.

If you have a chance to see this show, please do! You won't regret it. It is so enriching!

Golda Meir was one of Israel's great modern leaders, and first woman Prime Minister. She grew up in Milwaukee ,Wisconsin and made Aliyah to Israel as a young girl. Her determination and strength, her great ability to work made a major contribution to building the state of Israel.One of her great moments was her visit to the Soviet Union which stirred Soviet Jewry to reawakening. She became Prime Minister late in her life, and when she was already ill. And there is a question as to whether she acted wisely during the Yom Kippur War especially in failing to order a preemptive attack against the Arab forces who opened the war.
She was blunt , wise, tremendously loyal to those close to her, and one who totally identified with the historical struggle of the Jewish people, to return to its ancient homeland, and build a viable modern state there.
