Regardie's Companion Volume to his "The Tree of Life"Review Date: 2004-04-21
A couple of these essays are reprinted on the 'net, but the desirable Meditation essay, along with an astute collection of recommended readings, remains largely unavailable, and unreprinted.
Desirable as such, "Foundations of Practical Magic" would make a tremendously useful volume, were it enlarged and enriched to include ( not too irrational suggestion) the texts of a couple of Regardie's hard-to-get o/p books: "A Practical Guide to Geomantic Divination." and "How to Make and Use Talismans." Perhaps we can encourage Aquarian Press, or whoever, to do so...
Last, but not least, it should be noticed: "The Art of True Healing," the fifth and last essay contained in this book, has since been reissued with material from Marc Allen (see reviews.)
Perhaps the most useful and important essay from Regardie - not only in this book, but from all his writings - it is not to be ignored, and is particularly to be recommended, especially to those just starting this path.

A Fine IntroductionReview Date: 2001-05-05
Subsquently, Israel fought four other defensive wars against Arab aggressors. Arab officials admitted last November and again in March that current low-level war, which makes six, was planned by Arafat during the Camp David talks. They began attacks on September 24 with bombs at Netzarim junction, one of which murdered Israeli David Biri--days before Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount.
Israel, now 53 years old, has lived in a virtual stage of siege since her founding. Of 22 Arab nations, only two are offically at peace with her. The other 20 remain officially at war, by their choice. Mr. Finkelstein's work is an important--and honest--contribution to the understanding of this history. It is a positive contribution, being a much-needed antidote to the propaganda war that the Arabs have mounted, with increasing success, for the last 25 years. Alyssa A. Lappen
A Fine IntroductionReview Date: 2001-05-05
Children should learn that Israel, now 53 years old, has lived in a virtual stage of siege since her founding, with 20 of the 22 Arab nations remaining officially "at war" with her. Mr. Finkelstein's work is an important contribution to the understanding of this special friend to the U.S. Mr. Finkelstein's is a great contribution to the body of work on Israeli history. It provides a much-needed antidote to the propaganda war that the Arabs have mounted, with increasing success, for the last 25 years.

an excellent journalistic complement to the cold-war literature on the subjectReview Date: 2008-03-31
Sampson explains the economics, investigates the characters, and describes the environments they operate in. It is a true tour de force, as only the best journalists can accomplish.
However, the book is dated, as it was written in the latter part of the Cold War. With the US-Soviet rivalry, the dynamic was altogether different from today, when it was far more political to sell to your allies and potential clients. Now, it is pure economics on the selling side, while the buyers are more or less mercenary capitalist brutes.
Warmly recommended. But the interest is largely historical.

Traces recent military-political Israeli history with especial focus on the 1990's and beyondReview Date: 2006-09-12
Essential reading on today's Middle EastReview Date: 2006-09-03
Peri convincingly analyzes the shifts in Israeli policies since the late 1980's as a reflection of the military leadership's changing perceptions of the country's security needs. His approach is subtle, recognizing that the generals first supported and advanced the Oslo peace process during the early 1990's before abandoning hope for peace with the Palestinians by the end of the decade. In each phase the views of the active and retired senior officers deeply influenced Israel's policy choices.
Peri concludes with a series of recommendations for reform, which, had they been in place when Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, might well have produced a range of viable policy alternatives for the civilian leaders, sparing the elected government from adopting the generals' recommendation to launch a poorly-designed military campaign in Lebanon.
The book is clearly written and is solidly based on interviews with numerous high-level officials. This is a worthy sequel to Peri's earlier book, Between Battles and Ballots, showing that state control over the military has been weak since Israel's founding. Peri's important work holds cautionary lessons for all democracies, including the U.S. since 9/11, that struggle against terrorists and seek to make the most of their militaries without giving them control over national policy.

comprehensive analytical studyReview Date: 2006-03-14
On the basis of numerous interviews the author has presented a comprehensive analytical study. Particularly interesting is the study's detailed and extensive part on security policy, intelligence and other related issues. Here the author succeeds in drawing a comprehensive picture despite the fact that the complete availability of relevant sources is not given. These approx. 150 pages alone make the study as yet an unrivalled standard work which should not be lacking in any university library.

Excellent Analysis of the Old Testament TabernacleReview Date: 2005-09-10
Zehr is methodoligical and thorough in this book. He succeeds in his goal of neither focusing on the Tabernacle's Old Testament usage to the exlusion of Christ nor does he focus on Christ to the exclusion of the Israelite usage. While he does go into some detail about the Tabernacle, its construction, and Israelite worship practices, he does not allow himself to get bogged down in the details and lose the forest for the trees. Instead, in an engaging writing style, he always returns to major theological themes and Christology.
While this reviewer does tend to disagree with some aspects of his analysis (an avoidance of Baptism when covering the Laver; an avoidance of Communion when covering the Table which is always supplied with bread and wine, an awkward diatribe against infant baptism, etc.), these drawbacks do not greatly detract from a fantastic book. "God Dwells With His People" significantly enhanced my understaing of the Tabernacle, helped me to understand its relevance for Christians today, and provided excellent analysis (and pictures) of the various aspects of this ancient institution.
Outstanding Little Study of the TabernacleReview Date: 2001-04-19
There is fine photos and drawings and models of OT temple and altars and priests garb, etc. This makes for wonderful stuff to pass out for Bible Study.
This makes for a reference one can turn to and use profitably to understand God's presence in Christ, the High Priest and Sacrifice.
