Excellent reference book on direct sales companies

Very easy to read and helpful! The first part of the book talks about your goals and what you really want to achieve from working at home. It also covers the different aspects of working at home, basics of selling, and explains the listings. The bulk of the book is the company listings, which are organized by types, such as personal care products and educational products. Each company lists such things as their profile, products/services, selling methods and programs, earnings, sales support, investment required, sales levels and advancement potential. This book is great if you want to get into network marketing, but are not sure what company to get involved with. It provides a lot of helpful information in an easy to read format.

This book is a very thought provoking look at the issues related to women's employment. It is very clearly written so that women can analyze their situations and look at ways to improve them. Many specific examples are given and several step by step scripts are included for various relaxation techniques. This book is a very thorough how-to book to thrive, not merely survive in today's work world.

Just the Necessary Info Please

On my quest for employment I have read many a job search book. This book is nice and compact, offering the necessary info and steps quickly. The book outlines the essential ways everyone should look for work, warm and cold networking, using the internet etc. Farr takes you on a journey of worksheets that, before you know it, leads you to the type of job you want and the skill you have to get it. Other books attempt to do similar things, but don't have the clear/clean path this book does. In short this book covers the entire job search process from resume to interview and everything in between, in a short percise and effective way. I highly recommend it.

Excellent resource for teaching about affirmative action

This terrific anthology provides much needed information about the realities of affirmative action in the United States. Not only do the editors provide text from actual court cases such as the Bakke decision, but they also have excerpts from various media accounts for and against affirmative action as well as scholarly dicussions including people such as Lani Guinier, Patricia Williams, Shelby Steele, Richard Rogriguez, and many others. I use this in my course on the history of affirmative action in the United States and it is very accessible for undergraduates. Also, an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn about this social policy.

A very readable and engaging text.

America is transfixed on sex. The news media have gone on a feeding frenzy over President Clinton's alleged indiscretions...Not everyone agrees whether those matters constitute sexual harassment. A book by sociologist Stephen J. Morewitz examines this timely issue by presenting an interesting history of sexual harasssment...The book is well-researched and documented with endnotes...Morewitz saves the reader from too many dry charts and statistical studies with his very readable and engaging text. Certainly the book presents a lot of information and debate on the questions (of sexual harassment). CHICAGO DAILY LAW BULLETIN, April 29, 1998

Place it on your desk in times of trouble
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-26
I have written numerous book reviews for law journals and have read many of Conte's other works. She is a great writer. Even non lawyers can understand the central message.

"You can't judge a book by its cover" is an old adage that may NOT be applicable with Sexual Harassment in the Workplace: Law and Practice. A colleague lamented to me about sexual harassment she was facing from the medical director of the clinic where she was employed. During our conversation, I suggested she merely place Conte's work on her desk. It is black, but the title is in gold lettering with a fire engine red background. Thus, eyes are drawn to it because it stands out. Like others who entered her office, his eyes were drawn to Conte's volumes sitting on her desk. The harassment stopped. Hiring a lawyer and filing EEOC reports are costly, time-consuming, and emotionally draining. Strategically placing a book on her desk was not, and may have been more effective than filing a complaint.

As I said before this is a well-written book that will assist law and policy students. I think anyone who reads this review should ask their local public library to purchase a copy of this fine work

This book is an extremely comprehensive bibliography. I am a high school student and I found it to be very accessible.

I have been working on a term paper on Sexual Harassment in the work place, and have found plenty of articles from magazines, but very few books. This book pointed me in the right direction, to find lots of great books on the topic.

I would recommend this book to anyone who would like find authoritative sources on this important issue.

I hope that the authors will come up with a revised edition with later entries so that I can use it when I go to college.

Thanks alot.

A Synchronic Historical Tour De Force
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-26
Every once in a while, a book is published that siginificantly advances knowledge. Thus, it is with great pleasure that I state that Dr. Nemata Amelia Blyden's book is bound to be regarded as one of the greatest books on West Africa produced in this decade. This brilliant, synchronic, historical tour de force teaches us about the trans-oceanic migration of West Indians from the Caribbean to Sierra Leone in the decades after slavery was abolished in the British colonies in 1807. Employing both primary and secondary sources, Dr. Blyden in the eight chapters of this book chronicles how the West Indians who immigrated to Sierra Leone during this period came to occupy numerous positions in the colony and the colonial administration; how they became an important minority, albeit not always well-liked; and the impetus for their power and influence. More tantalizing is how Dr. Blyden skillfully weaves together the economic, political, psychological and social contexts of the time (1808-1880) to tell this fascinating history in an interpretive style. In essence, any student of history and the social sciences should get a copy of this book. It represents effulgent scholarship
