I am what is known as a headhunter, and besides finding the right people to fill jobs, a good part of my job is helping people prepare for interviews. I will be recommending all my candidates read this book. Its clear, concise, and helps anyone preparing for an interview, whether their first or at the executive level. I appreciate that the author has been in the role of recruiter and it shows in her insight. This book is well worth the money for anyone preparing for an interview no matter what stage in their career. I recommend this book highly as part of the interview preparation process.

This is a handy little book. The coverage in depth is great for such a quick read. I thought I knew about interviewing, but this book opened my eyes. I look back on all the interviews that did not turn out well and now I know why. Money well spent!!

This book is a translation of the second revised version of the fifth edition of "Roudou-hou" by Kazuo Sugeno, Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Tokyo (Tokyo: Koubundou Publishing Co., 2001). Since the first English version of it was published in 1991, we all had been longing for the new one covering extensive developments in both statutes and case law regarding the labor market, and employment and labor-management relations in these ten years. It has finally come out. As the translator's note says, this book "is the standard work on Japanese Labor Law, and is greatly relied on by the Bench, the Bar, Business and Labor in Japan .... His Work is not only comprehensive in scope, but also reflects a detailed knowledge and understanding of the law and practice in his own and other countries." I believe none of you disagree that this book is a most deserving of a five-star rating. It verifies most eloquently that it is in great demand by the readers. A real must-read book!!

This book has a lot of useful terms defined and given in examples, but it is the Career Index I found most helpful. The index narrows down careers/ job titles and gives words and phrases to better describe aspects of that experience. Great examples of how to word a job in terms of skills instead of just duties

A Word Finder that can make a difference!

This is a surprising helpful little book, easy to use, which can increase the effectiveness of your resume, cover letter, or even professional conversation.

As the author points out in the introduction, many employers now use a scanning system to screen resumes. The scanning process involves the selection of certain key words. But which words?
This book can help you include the important words and terms

Part 1 is a word finder. From ability to zealous, you will find key words, their definitions, and a variety of synonyms. Use this part as a thesaurus to add interest to your resume. To make the point that you are enterprising, you can also say you show initiative, are active, aggressive, ambitious, etc., all the way to venturesome.
Part 2 is a career index. I would say it, too, moves from A to Z, but in this case it's accountant to program director, radio. Under each of these key occupations, you will find a list of words to describe skills, responsibilities, and attributes.
There is also an index of positions which relate to these key occupations.

I'm a career counselor who is enthusiastic/excited/exuberant/keen/willing to recommend this book to someone who is feeling stuck about preparing career materials.

Great title and great information,

This is book is great. As the author of, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a meaningful and rewarding career." I feel I am an expert on the subject. Many books tell you how to get a job interview, and few give you scripted answers assuming you have been nothing, but successful.

For most people, this just is not the case. There are a number of reasons of why people do not have great backgrounds. I for one do not believe this is a reflection of potential, creativity, and attitude all of which are far more important than experience. If you need to prep for the interview read this book, if you need to get an interview read, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a meaningful and rewarding career" first. When investing in both of these resources you cannot go wrong.

Whether it's no experience, poor grades, or poor references and a prior firing, this details clear resolutions to common barriers.

A guide for those who wish to avoid the big city while finding the employment they seek

Not everyone wants to live the big city life - some prefer the calmer, slower pace of small towns. "Job Searches Beyond the Big Cities: Finding Employment in Medium to Small-Sized Markets" is a guide for those who wish to avoid the big city while finding the employment they seek. While specifying the different challenges small town job seekers will face, it gives them the tools needed to search out those fewer slots that small towns offer and how to give them the edge in landing the job in their preferred market. "Job Searches Beyond the Big Cities: Finding Employment in Medium to Small-Sized Markets" is highly recommended to anyone seeking a job outside of the Metropolises of America and for community library career collections.

I was impressed by this book, it is filled with information, tips, advice and creative ways of generating attention. I also like the free online access that comes with this book, all of the web sites and services in the book are clickable on the web site. The book has a broad appeal, however it provides extra attention to executives. I fully reccommend theis book to anyone who wants to get serious about their Job Search.

Wow, this is a real helpful resource

This is a "must read" for any college student

This book is a must read for any college student or college bound high school student. The book contains strategies and suggestions for success while in schoool that will lead to success in the world of work. The information presented will help students prioratize the activities and events of their college and university years that will ultimatly lead to higher grades, a more enriched experience in the University, and career success. Many researchers have documented a relationship between happiness on the "job" and happiness and contentment in life

Much of the information is what we assume all good parents will share with their children. However, my experience as a college professor and mentor to many students is that this information is not being passed on effectively. Even the best parents could not come up with all of these "pointers". Dr. Scheele shares her experiences with students she has encountered in her position in the career center of a large University.

This bok would make a great gift to the graduating senior or to any young adult looking for some common sense quidance to help launch them into the world of work. It will be on my list of "gifts for the graduate"

A very worthwhile book for anyone involved in law firm recruitment and/or management. The authors have included "real life" examples of the issues law firms and lawyers struggle and deal with on a daily basis and provide helpful solutions and strategies in retaining and motivating top talent. The "Best Strategies" section at the end of each chapter is clear, concise and useful.

Filled with quotes from both personnel experts and lawyers, and broken into brief and logical chapters, "Keeping Good Lawyers" is a quick read on the issues and strategies related to attorney retention. Putting the onus on both the firm and the individual lawyer for ensuring job satisfaction, "Keeping Good Lawyers" includes myriad "Best Practices," from the strategic (e.g., creating a work environment that is fun) to the tactical (e.g., having lawyers "on call" to cover for each other after hours or on vacations). Every firm is likely to find activities that will fit the culture while improving recruiting, hiring or retention efforts.

Wendy S. Enelow's Keywords To Nail Your Job Interview: What To Say To Win Your Dream Job shows how understanding and using key language can make all the difference between winning and losing a job. KeyWords are not just for the written word and computer scans of resume contents: they can act critically to ace or break a job interview. Anyone entering (or re-entering!) the job market could benefit greatly from this fine title.

Get your dream job

Review Date: 2004-05-04
Obviously getting your dream job is important, and there are many great books on the market such as, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a rewarding and meaningful career" which is a great book because it is about solutions and it is about defining how you are and what you will be good at. Of course, defining your dream job is only one part of the process. The second part is selling yourself in the interview, and this book will do that. It is a great resource, and you should invest in this book as well as, "How to find your dream job and make it a reality: solutions for a rewarding and meaningful career."
