Catching up, with the computer and drafting.Review Date: 2007-01-06
Auto Cad makes it simple, easy, and quick, to produce drawings from specifications. The T-Square and Drawing Board, are truely things of the past; and the protractor, compass and various other devices used for measureing angles, are very neatly displayed in the configuration of the program itself.

Admittedly; I still have not completely finished the book, yet it has already proven to be an essential tool to transition to Architectural Desktop 2006. Previously, the amount of information needed to reach drawing proficiency and remain productive at work has been the primary reason I have not upgraded my AutoCAD platform. It wasn't until I found this book and started the tutorials I gained the skills and confidence to upgrade to such a far superior program.
Without a doubt, one of the book's greatest strengths is its dual functionality. For example, when time permits I can sit down and follow along with the tutorials for an in depth learning experience similar to a classroom type lecture. At the same time, the book is a great reference tool for the times when deadlines are pending and production is essential.
I would give this book and excellent review and recommend it to others in my office.

Mastering a Tough SubjectReview Date: 2004-11-24
I'm very glad that I made the plunge because this book made me realize how little I did know about a very tough subject, optimizing the ADT building model in order to produce very realistic renderings with reasonable file sizes and render times. In fact, the two chapters on models is a "must read" for anyone who wants to be able to render ADT models in either Viz or VizRender.
Since both authors are architects, this book centers on producing outstanding presentations using VizRender. Their lighting techniques (both interior and exterior) and their recommendations for tweaking materials and render settings provide a clear path towards that end. It would be difficult to read this book and not become an accomplished renderer. In addition to the easy to understand text, there are lots graphics and a whole section of colored plates that illustrate the desired rendering results for each chapter. Finally, there are plenty of bonus excercises and excerpts to expand and sharpen the newly learned skills.
This book is definitely a must for anyone who wants to be proficient in using VizRender with ADT and several copies should be on the library shelves of any firm or school using or teaching those products.

Your gonna think Im the authorReview Date: 2001-02-26
How else could anyone get so carried away with this work.
DataCAD is the greatest cad tool you will find for Architectural work and I outa know, I have TurboCad, Intellicad, Vector Works, and AutoCad, but 99% of my work is with DataCAD.
This book is NOT the manual that comes with the software, but I'm betting that it soon will be the OFFICIAL Official DataCAD manual.
Buy this book now, I have purchased two copies that have dissappeared ( well I loaned them out and can't seem to get them back ) so, looks like I'm gonna make a repeat-repeat purchase.

Real robotics for real engineers.Review Date: 2001-07-24
You've seen them on T.V. -- giant arms that weld cars together, pistons and arms that stack and organize a bundle of newspapers, the vibrating tumbler where all the exiting parts are facing the same way, and a conveyor belt arrayed with perfect tablets (because the broken ones have been rejected out).
Learn:
...Systematic planning of robotic automation
...Different driving mechanism (motors, hydraulics, ...)
...Kinematics of machines (actuators, cams, vibrations)
...Transportation systems (conveyors, rotating table, vibration beds)
...Feeding and orientation (arrange all parts the same way, pull parts from bins and magazines, reject off-spec pieces)
...Mechanisms (automatic assembly, inspection, grippers, guides, even walking robots)
This book clearly explains the mechanics behind these robots, from general theories of operation (suitable for beginners) to the intimate formulas that optimize the mechanisms (great reference for practicing machine makers).
This is not a hobbyist "how-to" cook book, so don't expect plans or instructions on how to build such machines. To put the information to good use, you need to have good machining (metal work) skills. Still, it's a great book even if you're just curious about the topic.
