This book is quite helpful in understanding the theory behind splines as well as algorithms that can be easily coded up. Multiple variants of spline algorithms are discussed and analyzed quite thoroughly. The book is, however, racked with many errors making it unsuitible for teaching yourself the material. Also the authors seemed to create the own notations that are quite different than those presented by others such as Gallier and deBoor. They also assume that you have a firm understanding in vector calculus and linear algebra. All in all, not a bad book assuming descent mathematical background and the extensive erratta sheet that I'm sure someone has compiled.

I purchased this book expecting that it offered practical insights into SolidWorks functionality, as I was a neophyte user at that time and was hungry for a good reference work. However, the first third of the book covered very basic and generic drafting technique, from the importance of visual thinking to GD&T. These are the sort of things drafting students learn in their first year of college, and I was already very familiar with all these concepts due to my years of experience as a mechanical designer. If you are a recent graduate of a drafting program and have just begun using SolidWorks, this would be a useful book, and it's mainly for this reason that I gave it three stars. If you have any experience working in the industry, there are probably better aftermarket manuals available for the serious SolidWorks user.

THIS BOOK WOULD BE GOOD FOR A MANAGER WHOS JUST WANTS TO KONW TERMINOLOGY AND IS NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN BARE BONES AUTOMATION WORK. NOT REALLY A REFERENCE OF ANY SORT BUT DOES MAKE A GOOD READ AS FAR AS ENG BOOKS GO.

this is the typical technical data collection, no twist or plot or comedy, just plain dry. give it a looksee, will ya?

I want to know something about GIS.

The book is ok, I was a little disappointed that the authors didn't expand more on the topics.

The book will assist the user in producing a design with little or no expereince using the Softdesk software.

They cover the bare essentials.

If you want to get up and running with Softdesk, then this book is a good starting point.

The book seems like a good book for new users of Autodesks Mechanical Desktop 4.0 but much too basic for the 1 yr+ user looking for things that might have been missed when reading the CBT that is included with MDT4.0. Also, Amazon lists the book at 224 pages, the one they sent me has 195. Gee, wonder where the pages went?

This book is not for someone wanting to self-teach. I was stumped at chapter 2.
This text makes the assumption the reader has other sources available to them-like an instructor or some basic knowledge (or I've found on other reviews,even a different book to look things up!). I don't want to beat myself up with trial & error only having "HELP" to help. Not a true step-by -step introduction for novices!
I DO like how the book has a cummulative project that builds as it goes & at the end you'll have a set of drawings. I'm ordering an different book so hopefully I can get to that point!

I was expecting a more detailed book to use in learning ACAD 2007. This book is very brief. You need to have another book, one of the larger AutoCad books, to learn the program. This book is best as a reference. Saying that though, I really like the book. The artwork is great, text and color crisp and very readable. Now if the author will make it a real introduction to Acad it would definitely rate a "5+".
