Christophe Basso worked very hard giving years of his life to produce the best Switch-Mode Power Supply book available, by far. I have a large collection of books on SMPS and although many are very good books, they are not nearly as complete or practical as Basso's book. He derives all his equations and then shows many real world example designs from start to finish. In my opinion and the opinion of many power electronics professionals and power electronics college students, the averaged switch model is the easiest to create and most intuitive to understand and use. Basso has digested the best information from the best references and then creatively enhanced many models and invented new SPICE models/sub-circuits you need for large and small signal analysis and simulations with the SPICE of your choice. His knowledge of creating analog behavioral models (ABM) that perform just like the real components or circuit functions, is amazing. He created ABM PWMs from individual ABM components. Everything he creates, he verifies. You buy this book at a bargain price and get a CD with all the models/sub-circuits you need to check your existing designs and start new designs with the highest confidence. Once you look at his ABMs, you will want to create some of your own because it is so much fun. In a short time, I've used his models/sub-circuits and his techniques with PSPICE to identify lack of or no phase margin in Switch-Mode Power Supplies for a huge corporation. I have many more power supplies to analyze/simulate and several new ones to design.
I've worked as a power electronics engineer for many years and I'm so thankful to Christophe Basso for working so hard and smart to produce the best Switch-Mode Power Supply book ever written. Very thorough and very practical. Get this book and apply Basso's knowledge, techniques, and SPICE models/sub-circuits to your designs and you will never have another unstable Switch-Mode or Linear Power Supply.

Once in a while a book comes along that covers a subject in such detail and yet is chocked with examples that are easy to prove and use by students and designers in the field as this one. It is evident that Mr. Basso went to great lengths to make sure that users of different spice software platforms were included by supplying a CD with models and demos for all the major platforms. I don't know of another offering that deals with closing the feedback loop in the detail as this book does. I think any serious graduate program should consider including this book as a text. Money and time well spent; it is my second reference for serious SMPS work.

Since this book was published in 1997, a lot has happend in the area of physical design automation--but this is still a remarkably good text, especially for students and beginners. This because not only is it exceedingly clearly written, it concentraits on classic techniques which form the foundation for techniques still used today.
What is urgently needed is a bang-up-to-date text on this subject which contains materials for the more advanced user--not just for students, but also for old salts like myself who have been working in the trenches for 10 years! If such a text were to be written by these authors, I'm sure it would be a classic.
Sadly, EDA industry is a very small and shrinking industry, and a book like this is HARD to write, because you have to be an expert in so many fields. So this book is probably as good as we can reasonably expect to see anytime soon.

I have read most of the book and implemented most of the propsed algorithms. It was easy to understend. The authors simplified much of the notations that is used by the oirignal writers of the algorithms. It opens the area for any one intersted in those topics to continue research with an open mind about what to choose and how.

I learned Autolisp in school about 6 years ago and like most students promptly forgot it as soon as the test was over. This book has proved invaluable in reacquiring the programming skills I learned (and forgot) so long ago. It is probably the best book for beginners in Autocad as well as Autolisp programming since most of it is explained in a simple and easy to understand fashion.

I have been using AutoCAD/AutoLISP since 1984 and this book helped me get started. After reading and using the examples I easily increased my productivity using AutoCAD 20-30%. I currently suport and teach AutoCAD classes and AutoLISP in Plain English is the text book I use for my introduction class to AutoLISP.
George Head makes the most technical concepts easy to understand and [even more important] to implement. The examples used are easy to follow and can be readily modified for use in any industry.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning AutoLISP

If you want your organization to really be successful in EDM and PDM, read this book, it explains well all the principles. Its a good comprehensive introduction to Engineering Data Management and Engineering Workflow Management. Its a thorough text for serious EDM and PDM managers and others managing product data. Practical industry oriented chapters about engineering data, engineering workflow and EDM implementation. Technology and its vendors change fast, but the basic information and conclusions of this stands the test of time. Those responsible for managing CAD data may especially find this book useful. It aided me particularly in thinking about these potentially very complex subjects. Should be read with Rodger Burden's excellent 'PDM: Product Data Management' which moves the clock foward 10 yrs, and 'Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation' from 'Engineering Information Management Systems' author John Stark, PLM Visionary, for the way PLM emerged from technologies like CAD, EDM and PDM. Recommended reading.

I found this book after reading Stark's Product Lifecycle Management book published in 2004, 13 years after this one. For me Stark's PLM book puts him up there as a leader among the PLM thoughtleaders and a principal visionary of PLM. I wanted to check out how accurate some of his preceding writings would be ten years on. In Engineering Information Management Systems he is writing mainly about Product Data Management software and workflow in the product development area. The book is clear, detailed, complete and useful nearly fifteen years after it was published. He had a clear view of what those systems could do a long time before they became a commonplace. On that basis the ideas in his PLM book could still be with us in 2020. A 2020 vision of PLM. I recommend reading this book. The basic facts are as relevant now as they were when published in 1992.

This is an old book dating from the late nineteen eighties, but has very good descriptions of the needs and reasons for edm systems (engineering data management systems, engineering document management systems, engineering drawing management systems.) As well as the needs and reasons, there are excellent descriptions of the functionality of these systems, and examples of them. The author also explains nicely how to do an implementation project. There are more recent books about product data management (Burden, Product Data Management) and product lifecycle management (Stark, Product Lifecycle Management: Paradigm for 21st Century Product Realisation) but this one is very good value for money, is a classic in the field, has a good description of the basics, and is one of the first to relate product data management to application systems like cad/cam and to working methods like concurrent engineering, and I recommend reading it.

Book was very helpful, and will be my desk reference. However, I do have one comment and question. The highway map shown on page 12 looks like a scanned state road map. The map may have been computer generated, but is it a true GIS? I don't think so. In these early days (years) of GIS, many computer generated maps have been portrayed as GIS, when they are not. This is due to confusion and plain lack of understanding. I think this has hurt the GIS field, and will only be overcome by time and the growth of the GIS applications

In my original review, I questioned whether a VDOT road map was a GIS system or not. The image appeared to me to be a scanned road map. After some research, George Korte, the author, responded that the map was produced by Intergraph's MGE GIS and cartographic publishing system. I thank the author for getting back to me on this issue. -Jonathan Soulen

This book is an excellent addition to the scientific literature. It includes an extensive discussion of scholarly and practical robotic topics ranging from kinematics and programming to practical application areas and economic concerns. The editor has complied 66 chapters of information from 120 contributors. As one who has edited books and journals, I can appreciate the task in getting over 100 contributors to commit to this undertaking. The handbook is over 1300 pages long and includes a CD which allows one to see many of the operations described in the printed matter in a very visual fashion. The book is divided into 12 parts with the section on terminology containing over 800 terms. I personally was delighted to see chapters included on micro and nanorobotics reflecting the developments and interest in miniaturization. This book is highly recommened.

This book is simply great. I believe this book will hold its own and stand against the test of time for several decades. The information provided is simply one of the most comprehensive, all inclusive works in the field of industrial robotics. It covers a thorough history of robotics, and a detailed analysis of all the quirks and surprises discovered when working on such complex pieces of machinery. There are those who would say, in the light of relelntless progress, that this book is outdated. While I do not believe them, if they are right in this respect, this book still has so much to offer. The tales of human ingenuity may well prove to be more valuable than the technical information. Buy this book now, before they stop publishing it!

I spent a long time looking for a good AutoCAD reference book. The problem I had with other AutoCAD references was that they based their teaching methodology on an creating an independent drawing. I'm sure this would be great in the classroom, but it was hard to translate the information to the projects I do at work. Basically, I needed a User's Manual on Steroids. And this is it! I've been using the book for 6 months now, and it's never failed to answer any of the oddball questions that come with using AutoCAD. Pretty amazing, considering how quirky the program can be. And it does it in straightforward language, unhindered by heavy doses of jargon. I would recommend this book to any 2002 user, especially to anyone who uses 2002 in their professional practice.

This book provides a remarkably broad view of various AI approaches in practice and their targeted problems. All the math and examples are very short and incomplete but it's obvious that details is not the goal of this book. This book is particularly good to consult when one is trying to pick up the right technologies for her problem. Once she gets the big picture, she can follow the numerous futher readings in each field which are specified after each chapter to deepen the understanding and make the execution of the project concrete.

Its simply great ! I am a beginner and by reading this book I feel like I am a guru of VIZ. Whatever you are looking for, nurbs, materials, everything, its an amazing great book! Everyone should have it and make it as the main door to 3D !
