As a Career Services professional on a college campus, I have found this book to be a great resource in working with the parents of my students. It answers questions relevant to any college student regardless of type of institution, or academic major. The authors are knowledgeable of the career development process and the current employment market. I give it to parents at Parents Weekend each year. It's one of a kind!

The best and most concise guide to getting the job you want.
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-23
I discovered Max 15 years ago at a recruitment fair where he gave a free presentation on CV writing. I was already so impressed that I kept detailed notes (which I have and refer to, to this day). My next encounter was face-to-face, where I asked his advice on career planning. I followed his advice, as a result of which I have lived (literally) a dream lifestyle ever since. As I write I am in Hong Kong, having made lots more money than I could ever imagine, my success largely fuelled by having done a wide range of jobs that were exactly what I wanted to do at the time, for the money that I wanted to be paid.

The book is very short. Much shorter than my own writing! That is because it give very clear and specific advice without beating around the bush. If you follow the steps he gives, you will find that a) you are much more clear about what you are offering and b) everyone around you is much more clear about your true potential.

I am now working as an executive recruiter, and I really really wish more candidates had read Max's book. Any book for that matter, but I always recommend Perfect CV. It is SO hard to work out what a candidate is capable of, by reading the typical CV that is piled up on my desk.

If you're looking for work, please please do yourself and your potential recruiters a favour by reading Perfect CV.

(Max, if you see this: "thanks!")

Excellent overview of pschological tools and personality testing!

As the author of the article, I can share the fact that over 2 years were involved in working with Dr. Rosenblatt to understand how these tools may help an organization identify and retain key team members. The testing not
only helps an individual understand his or her preferred approach to team
work, but also helps the organization make better decisions by recognizing balanced input. I would be happy to answer any specific questions about the research and experiences. Call me at 954-336-3722. Thank you.

The Book I studied hardest at College
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2000-04-04
This book is a phenomenal source of information on employment for the aspiring college student. Not only does it list a plethora of seasonal summer jobs in each of the fifty states, but it also lists some employment opportunities overseas and in Canada. There is a section devoted to employment in the National Park Services which I found especially useful. It lists all the national parks nationwide and the criterion for the different types of jobs. From amusement parks to summer camps, this book lists literally hundreds of summer opportunities for the "vacationing" student. A typical explanation lists the dates of the job, requirements, application information, and detailed account of what one will be doing. A breakdown of the typical employee (ex. female 40% male 60% or 10% college students 60% retirees) was especially useful. It helped me find the ideal summer job and provided a huge pool to chose from. Overall, the best, most informative, and extensive book on the subject that I have ever seen or read.

I recently decided to make a career change and picked up this book from the library along with several books. It is an inspiring and very positive book. Yes, sometimes there is discrimination. At the same time, majority of organizations are fair. There is a tendency for minorities to prematurely cry foul without realizing that the fault is theirs and end up losing out on career advancement and success. To be successful you have to get rid of some bad habits and pick up some skills. This book tells us how to avoid minority traps. It also explains, how you should deal with discrimination and not lose your sanity i.e. how to proactively act instead of reacting to the situation. Must be a part of the personal library of every minority professional!

Racism in South Africa
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-11-02
I used this book as basis for my LLB dissertation at the National University of Lesotho(1981-82)- Topic - THE LAW AS AN INSTRUMENT OF THE DOMINANT CLASS. It was the first well researched book, I had read , written by a South African about what I call, the real history of South Africa . It is an objective account of the history of South Africa. I have not seen it on the book shelves or stores. The interesting feature is that ,information which was deliberately hidden from local readers, researchers and authors at that time, can now be brought to the fore to dispute various historical myths propagated by European Historians , that the colonisation of South Africa, and indeed of Africa, was about bringing the word of God or civilisation to this part of the world. It further exposes the fallacy that Europeans were not ,and are still not racist.Explorers like Jan Van Riebeck, who allegedly landed in the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, is recorded referring to Africans as "kaffirs" when reporting to his colonial masters about his escapades. I would recommend that this book be re-published and popularised in South Africa so that our young readers and historians could have a much more better understanding of the history of their country and be able deal with racism as we know it South Africa. It is a book that could be useful to all historians in South Africa when rewriting the history of our beloved motherland - It is a book that will give South Africans a better perspective of the Political History of the economy of the country.
