Absolutely the best and most useful book I have ever read

Written by Ulysses Lee, a young black captain, from 1947-1951, Army waited 13 years until 1964 to publish and never publicized widely. However, to its credit Army had to conclude that it simply was too good to ignore.Reissued in 1994 by the Chief of Military History. Scholarly and beautifully written, Lee succinctly explains and documents without bitterness or rancor racism in America, with focus on the military--letters, official documents, and photographs. Facts and arguments presented are irrefutable. A starting point for anyone who sincerely wants to understand race in America, its heritage, and what really happened during and between World Wars I and II. The President's Council on Race would do well to begin its deliberations with Ulysses Lee.

Take Control of Your Career means just what it says: it's up to you to act on your dissatisfaction with your current career or your curiosity about how to revitalize your current career, and this book shows you how to do either or both. It is an excellent distillation of Kevane's in-person career counselling. It also contains some helpful advice about how and why career stress causes relationship stress. Intelligent, practical, helpful, and clear; I recommend this book highly.

An impressive work of meticulous scholarship, Employment Relations In The United States: Law, Policy, And Practice provides students with an historical background and context leading to an understanding of how the American system of the organized labor movement developed and just how it differs from system in other industrialized nations. Author Raymond Hogler presents an informed discussion on individual employment rights (including protection from discrimination), and covers current labor policy issues ranging from the minimum wage and the growth of a contingent workforce, to privatizing retirement. Of special interest is Hogler's unique historical and evolutionary oriented explanation of the developmental history and nature of employment relations. Highly recommended reading -- especially for students of American employment relations and labor history.

While I haven't read the *entire* book, those sections I needed on skills testing of employees were both highly informative and very useful (and, surprisingly, quite readable). This handbook is a must-read if you are interested in certification testing and the potential legal pitfalls that could await. I actually have the 1989 edition; it is well kept up to date.

A great book. If you've read Not in Our backyards and are interested to learn how environmental issues are solved in UK, read this book. It takes you all the way thorough the legal process, tells you where the problems are (usually scientific evidence - proving the cause-consequence relationship) and what the costs are. Is the way thorugh the legal process really worth it? In this book most of the cases have been successful and that can give you a good impression, but the author is cautios and warns you that not always everything works out ok. A book that will surprise you and teach you a lot of new, interesting points, but also make you see the real difficult side of taking your case to court.

This is a brilliant, thoughtful and concise explanation of the equality of opportunity concept that blends ideas from economics and philosophy to provide deep insights into the theoretical and practical implications of equalizing opportunity. It will become the benchmark on the topic for many years to come.

This book shows that ERISA can be fun. I like the green cover, and all the inside jokes about the government (pay attention or you might miss 'em.) All in all, this is the kind of legal information book we've all been clamoring for. Hats off to Lewis!

As my one word description of the casebook makes clear, it is a very thorough book. Each step of the employment process is covered. The book does not bore you, as they have searched for the most up to date and/or interesting cases.
As a casebook for employment law class, I feel that it is excellent. The key is that one could read the book without even having a professor to facilitate and still learn a great deal.
Employment law is a fast changing, hot subject in current American law today, and this book reflects the newest trends and cases.
