Zandy captures the stories of working class women
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-10-15
Janet Zandy strives to bring us snapshots, thoughts, and memories of the lives of working class and immigrant women through poetry, testimonials, histories, and short stories. Perhaps the most compelling selections from this anthology are those that deal with the tragedy of the Triangle shirtwaist fire and its aftermath, as Zandy rightly lends that seminal event a key place in the history of the women's and labor movements. It serves as a suitable classroom companion for students of gender studies, women's history, labor history, and United States history. Overall, a fascinating read, to be consumed as a whole or in small sections, savory and intimate.

Deeply Insightful

Although a bit technical even for the educated layperson, this book is an amazing analysis of the economic situation in Germany. We in the United States should study this material carefully in order that we may avoid the problems that afflict welfare states, including a precipitous drop in reproduction rates, which tends to be an unintended but very serious consequence of such systems.

If you can find it... BUY IT, the best book on the subject.

How this book went out of print, I do not know. The authors of this text have laid out the process of packaging yourself and your career better than any authors I've experienced. I beleive both of them are currently running their own Executive Placement firms... one word of advice... If you do get ahold of this book - DON'T lend it out, you will never get it back! Which is why I'm currently searching for it again. SOMEONE PLEASE REPRINT THIS BOOK!

A Comprehensive Guide to a World of Possibilities!
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 1997-06-24
This book is an excellent guide for parents who want to be able to provide their children with appropriate opportunities to focus their talents and interests into a life path. The book includes many exercises and stories of individuals and goal-setting guidelines, as well as lists of questions to ask your children to help them identify what it is they would like to do when they grow up, a question many of us still ask ourselves well into our careers. In a world of bewildering choices, this book gives parents a chance to help their children (and themselves!) find an anchor that will enrich and bring meaning to their lives. I highly recommend it--you'll refer to this book time and again

Another Useful Tool!

As a Career Counselor, I'm always assisting my clients with resumes. Creating a "target" resume is a foreign concept to most folks. It's a common misconception to include your entire work history and every experience on your resume. Katy's book focuses on how to match your resume to a specific job. She gives strategies that have proven successful for myself and my clients on how to incorporate your most relevant skills and experience for a particular position. This technique makes it easier for an employer to know which job you're interested in and how you stand out as a candidate. I love the before and after resume samples and refer to them often. Way to go, Katy! Thank you for another useful tool!

Career Development Theory
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-19
This text starts with a forward by John Krumboltz. Could you ask for a more respected career development theorist to endorse a book? The text addresses the career development of African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans and Native Americans. This is one of the few texts that offers the practitioner a guide toward a multicultural theory of career development, and ideas for reliable career assessment and intervention with racial and ethnic minorities.

A good read!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 5 total.

Timeless Places: Morocco is an enjoyable read, which takes the reader (and the viewer) to a land which is filled with mystery and mysticism. The language is poetic, and the photography is breathtaking.

This book was cool! I couldn't put it down. Dr. Levin-Waldman blows the lid off the latent hippocracy behind the minimum wage "debate" with real statistics and voting records. When I first started reading the book, I was under the impression that the various parties in the "dialogue" over the minimum wage had hardly changed their positions, and boy was I ever wrong! This book is a must read

A Perfect Casebook???
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-01-01
If one is looking for a comprehensive, intelligible and coherent overview of the area of Employment Law then look no further.

The editors logically lay out the material beginning with the attempts to hire and be hired, the employment relationship and problems therein, the termination of the employment relationship and the consequences therefrom, and the effects of the termination of employment on future employment.

The editors provide insightful cases that were logically edited as well as useful notes and background cases. All in all, a great caseback.
