AutoCAD Books

It will take more than a three to five day training course to go through this book. The examples are difficult for first time students to understand. Randy could have used less complicated drawings and still be able to show the methods used for their construction. Complex drawings for first time students isn't the way to go. I do a 14 week course with about 12-15 students, most of which are beginners, and it will take all of the 14 weeks to trudge through this text.

This book is a fraud. I've been struggling with it for about a month and I can say that this is not for someone who doesn't have any previous AutoCAD experience. I used CADs software since 1985, so I'm not exactly a newcomer in the CAD business. But it is my first contact with AutoCAD and I picked up ....the wrong book. I got caught by the title and the price. Big mistake.
First: Several chapters are written for Autocad 2000 (Cheap way to write a new book). The problem is that menus are differents, vocabulary is different, screens are differents. Now go figure how it works.
Second: Key info is missing. Chapter 12 (That's where I am at the moment), really sucks. I figured out the missing info because I spent 3 days looking in the help files (I got lucky). So far it's my worst experience, but the previous reading was not particularly a kind of "Follow the instructions" experience either.
This book is badly written, probably by an AutoCAD expert, who doesn't have a clue of "How to pass a message".

As an AutoCAD 2000 and AutoCAD LT 2000 instructor, I found Randy's books to be too difficult for entry level students. The methods are hard to understand and follow for first time AutoCAD students. This leads to confusion in the classroom and makes the software seem harder to learn than it is. Some of the graphics in the books are so pixelized the studens can't figure out what they are. There is no solution manuals available either.

I am a Tutor in a local community college and this is by far the worst book I have ever seen. In some lessons steps have been left out, in others redundant steps have been added. Many of the pop-up menu's and dialog boxes are from previous versions of AutoCad and sometimes look completely different in the book than on screen. This becomes extremely confusing for new students. The practice lesson's are extremely simplistic and do not give enough material for solid learning to take place. At other times lessons are taught in the book that (in my opinion) need to be taught in a higher level AutoCad class. If you decide to buy this book, best of LUCK to you! Personally I think you would be better off with NO manual!

Geee... wow, Amazon has this on their site for sale? I'm going back to Amazon to get my money back. This is nothing more than a sales arcticle. It doesn't teach you anything. Wow. I can not believe I just paid for it. It's an advertisment from a magazine, nothing more. If ever I felt that Amazon just ripped me off, it would be right now.

Este libro de 2 CDs promete mucho en su promocion, pero ofrece realmente poco.

Trae una explicacion de comandos como de instructivo y muy pocos ejercicios para su implementacion. ¿A quien le sirve saber lo que hace el software si no le enseña a hacerlo?

Lo que me intereso inicialmente fue el taller de diseño que trae como promocion el cual NO VIENE CON EL CD, sino que hay que bajarlo del internet y a la fecha me ha sido imposible, ya que el enlace esta roto. Ha sido realmente un dolor de cabeza localizar a los vendedores del libro. Tardan mucho en responder y literalmente tiene uno que hacer "click" en cada uno de los correos electronicos que ponen en su sitio WEB "a ver" cual responde.

No vale los $49.99 dolares. Esta carisimo para lo que es. No gasten su dinero en esto; mejor compren los libros virtuales (e-books) AutoCad I y AutoCad II, por menos de la mitad de precio y con mucho mas y mejor contenido.

I regret the day I bought this book. It advertises great topics to learn, but nothing to follow through with. Besides being poorly written and edited, it contains less information on its topics than the AutoCAD manuals and desk references. Very frustrating!!

One wonders if the person responsible for the "editorial review" actually ever read the book and/or tried to use the exercise manual. Both text and manual are replete with inaccuracies, misspellings, grammatical gobbledygook and, of course, worst of all for the student, incorrect, incomplete or, in numerous cases, altogether missing instructions/directions. The book appears as if it went unedited, or surely some of the errors would've been corrected?? The price tag is too high for a text with so many problems. Consider an alternative (any alternative).

screen shots of text are most times very small.a basic book should cover paperspace it's real important.region modelling, accessing autodesk's portals, drawings on the web, do not seem necessary for a introductory level book.index d on compatibility with autocad 2002 seems misplaced for a new student to autocad. where is the meat and potatoes for a new student.
