Entropy Analysis - an Introduction to Chemical Thermodynamics (Paper)

Outstanding book; ridiculous price

This book is simply outstanding. It assumes knowledge of basic chemistry, and a certain degree of comfort with the mathematics of chemistry, and covers only the basics of thermodynamics, as applied to chemistry. To some degree it even paves the way for the later study of statistical mechanics. I won't claim it makes the material easy to learn, but it does as good a job of this as any other text I've read.

This book makes an excellent supplement to most college chemistry textbooks, which have confusing and generally inadequate discussions of thermodynamics. The exercises are reasonable and quite helpful for understanding the material.

As a last comment, I want to point out that the price is absurd--this is a tiny paperback volume, and as good as it is, it is hardly worth paying more than $40 for; the publishers should be ashamed of themselves.

Good, but...

It is certainly a good intro to Thermodynamics book, but it'stoo skimpy for the money. At only 200 pages, it isn't a completetextbook on the subject, but noteworthy and significant nonetheless.

This articulate work is a new essential to an adult development library and a pleasure to read. Dr. Hoare presents, in an unambiguous manner, insights on Erik Erikson that provide a much needed connected perspective of this foremost adult development theorist. Carol Hoare has skillfully utilized historical reference to craft from Erikson's unpublished papers a meaningful perspective of the complex and seemingly contradictory published writings of Erikson. My own understanding and appreciation of psychosocial adult development has expanded ten-fold. Erikson on Development in Adulthood: New Insights from the Unpublished Papers is a must-read for all who teach, study, or administer education for adults. This book is also wonderful addition to classes on human development that can be used to enhance student critical thinking.

The ideas of the great master of human psychosocial development, Erik Erikson, have been studied throughout the twentieth century. As a former graduate student who recognizes and applauds many of Erikson's beliefs and ideologies regarding adult development, I highly recommend ERIKSON ON DEVELOPMENT IN ADULTHOOD: NEW INSIGHTS FROM THE UNPUBLISHED PAPERS. Professor and author Carol Hoare unselfishly dedicated 12 years of her professional life to gain a thorough comprehension of Erikson's perspective of adult development. Concisely synthesized and written with great eloquence, this book can be useful in any academic course related to the study of human development, as well as the general public, for the purpose of enjoying and attaining another brilliant perspective of human psychosocial development.

This compilation offers a diverse and thoughtful range of material on this controversial subject, providing direction while giving opportunity to develop important reference points for ministering effectively in a sometimes confusing arena.

A thoughtful addition to Christian dialogue shelves.

Even the Demons Submit: Continuing Jesus' Ministry of Deliverance is an anthology of essays by deliverance ministers, psychologists, pastors, biblical scholars, missiologists, anthropologists, and individuals who have experienced deliverance. The essays themselves are not entirely discrete; some represent direct, specific and personal responses to other essays. Formats of writings range from scholarly precision to pastoral reverence, yet an overall theme of the importance and power of doing God's work in the battle against evil prevails amid individual writings such as "Demonization and the Therapeutic Community", "The systemic spirit of the family", "Trusting Jesus When Quick Fixes Elude Us", case studies, and much more. A thoughtful addition to Christian dialogue shelves.

A Very Good Book

This was truly a wonderful book. The writer really gives you personal account of the "comeback" of Nixon. There were a lot of details that I am sure most Americans do not know as Nixon basically fell off the radar screen until his death. This book gave you some much personal information that I put it down and have a new appreciation for what he went through. I would suggest reading this book right after `The Final Days", the two books work very well together. There is also an interesting section in "Shadow" about Clinton and his speak at Nixon's funeral. This is a very interesting book and if you are interested in his life of just American politics I am sure you will also find the book interesting.

A very engaging, deep look at the man behind the president

An excellent book for those at least slightly familiar with all the ins and outs of the Nixon story. Many stories and anecdotes that are rare and memorable involving Nixon and everyone around him. I highly reccomend this book.

Fashions Through The Ages Paper Dolls by Tom Tierney is a fun and educational study of the changes of fashions from way-back-when to up-to-the-minute leather and punk! The illustrations are beautiful, and you may well want to buy two copies -- one to cut out and play with, and another to keep in pristine condition for ready reference.

If you are a fan of Mr. Tierney, this book is certain to be a favorite in your collection. His work is sheer perfection.

GREAT Book!

For the serious student of costume as well as the merely curious, this survey of fashions through the ages is wonderful! Seeing how our ancestors pushed, squeezed, and padded to make themselves more attractive is a hoot. With everything from the outrageous to the modestly concealing to the discreetly sexy of both men's and women's fashions, this survey is well worth purchasing!

I'm a journalist, a sports fan, amateur historian and the fourth great-granddaughter of the amazing Peter Sides, a Revolutionary War Veteran who was killed at the bloodiest battle on Texas soil, the Battle of Medina in 1813.

You don't believe me? Look it up!

I first read this book years ago and loved it. I've recommended it to others who have loved it. It's a fabulous read and rollicking adventure. It's the kind of book I keep re-reading and buying any copy I can find and passing it on to people I love.

Please excuse the passive voice in the previous paragraph. I know better ; )

Fast Copy is a lot of lively fun!

And that's the way it was, is, and shall be....

A native Texan myself, I found myself laughing all through this book. I caught continual glimpses of friends and relatives (and, yes, even myself!) in this wonderful little novel that explores Texas, football, and Texans.

However, it is not just a comedy that pokes fun at Texans. Nosiree! It deals specifically with Depression-Era Texas and makes us take a disturbing look at ourselves. How can someone callously believe that other humans are "just hobos"? Do we truly believe that appearances are more important than reality? What will one do for Love; is it ok to hurt others to pursue one's own pleasure?

This is a most thought-provoking work and well worth the time to read.

This book is filled with dozens of projects for anyone who enjoys making cards. Easy to read step by step directions and beautiful full color photographs showing the various stages are included.

There are so many different ideas for any holiday or other type of celebration, that could keep you making cards for a very long time.

The one thing I noticed immediately about the book, is that unlike other card making books, this one shows projects that are gorgeous and would be not only fun to make, but really fun to give away. They are beautiful and most can be interchangeable and used for many different occasions.

In the back of the book are several helpful templates that can be enlarged or resized to create cards of any size. Since there is such a wide variety of styles and sizes of cards depicted, why not create your own beautiful envelopes to coordinate with the cards. The patterns make it easy, because you can duplicate these patterns into embellishments to adorn your envelopes.

A fun book for the card maker!

Tera Leigh's book Faux Mosiacs is a fabulous find. I too am a great lover of mosiac but with a toddler and a career who has the time to break out the old plates and create and old fashioned masterpiece? I love this method for creating artistic frames (I feature one in my book "Craft the Perfect Frame"), creating one of a kind home accents, and creating great gifts for friends. You can easily knock out any one or two of these fun projects in an evening giving yourself a well needed sense of creative accomplishment. Kids can also easily join in on this version of mosiac, not only a great "I'm bored" eraser but a fantastic creative activity to create gifts for friends and teachers.

Do yourself a favor and give this book a try. It's easy, it's fun, it's creative, and fun for everyone.

I've often admired the look of mosaic tile, but just couldn't deal with the mess, tools, and time involved in the original technique. Then I found this book -- AMAZING! "Faux Mosaics" look like the real thing, without a bunch of expensive tools and tricky application techniques. Don't be fooled by the words "tile" and "grout" in this book; the tile is any piece of paper, and the grout is a brush-on finish that's a snap to apply. Best of all, you don't have to be "crafty" to make beautiful mosaic look-alikes. Ms. Leigh's super-simple technique is explained so well that virtually anyone can get FANTASTIC RESULTS. And she shows so many wonderful project ideas -- you'll never run out of items to transform into works of art for your home and unique gifts for friends and family. This book is a MUST HAVE for anyone who has ever admired mosaics ... I'm sure you'll use and love it as much as I have!
