Neural Networks Books

This is the typical book created putting together technical papers, proceedings, and working papers without a unifying structure.

This is a short list of this book's limitations:

1) Fragmented: every chapter is written by a different author.
2) Unorganized: Neural Networks are introduced only at chapter 11.
3) So badly planned that both chapter 11 and 18 have basically the same content. You can look yourself inside the book to see that.
4) Lack of examples: very few implementations of NN are provided or suggested.
5) Out of context: many chapters are not related to Neural Networks at all, for example chapter 16 is about Yield curve modelling, and chapter 21 is dedicated to Portfolio Optimization without any contextual reference to NN. Please be aware that after introducing these topics there is NO follow-up whatsoever with NN application examples.
6) Misleading: The content about Neural Networks is really minimal.

Artificial neural networks itself has yet to become too promising a topic in engineering sciences after years/decades of effort. Trying to cook ANN into high-speed circuit modelling isn't too bright an idea, either.

It's a collection of papers u won't understand anyway. So instead of paying an exhorbitant price for only 200 pages, buy a Ferrari instead.

When a book is written in a way that you are better off reading research papers in the library, that is exactly what you should do. This book has no didactic value, and fails at defining the problem before attempting to explain it. The author does not attempt to put any examples together and the presented data is minimal to non-existent. Strikingly obtuse is the chapter on language learning. The chapter is inconsequential and self-defeating: "since language learning is one of the simplest cases of the kinds of learning that recurrent networks are tasked with, we must infer that learning in recurrent networks is difficult in general." Not surprisingly, this book is also poorly indexed.
