Revised a bit based on constructive criticism by other contributors.

From reading the editorial reviews I thought I would be furious or amazed or something. I'm not though. I found it dull and returned it to the library. You see, I know the truth. And after 25 years of watching folks miss the point of the Gospel (ex-Baptist ministers or not) I'm worn out arguing with folks trying to find something in the Bible that just isn't there. Unless the Spirit of God dwells in you, you can't understand what the Word of God says. This book is just another one in a huge subset of books by folks who don't know what they are talking about because they can't know what they are talking about.

In starting to write a review of Jehovah Unmasked, I find myself at a loss for words. In my own personal experience, there have been few if any books that have made as deep an impact on me as this one. I simply cannot adequately express how important this book can be not just for everyone's personal life, but how it has the power to truly transform this world into a place you wouldn't even recognize from today's spiritually jaded wasteland.

Through the plentiful use of quotations straight out of the Old and New Testament Bible, author Nathaniel Merritt unmistakably demonstrates that the Jehovah of the OT could not possibly be the same "Heavenly Father" that Jesus spoke of in the NT. The contrast is in fact so stark, that one has to stop and seriously ask why the Old Testament God wasn't dethroned 2,000 years ago. This is clearly not the loving God that millions of Christians THINK they worship today. He is nothing less than a raging, vindictive, bloodthirsty maniac who violates his own commandments on a regular basis. And yet millions of Christians continue to believe that this is the One True God. The cognitive dissonance that resulted from this failure to recognize the obvious has probably caused more inner turmoil than any other single thing in history.

There are so many "gems" in this book, I cannot begin to number them all. But just to give you a clue as to what I'm referring to, I quote the following paragraph from page 111:

"Just as 'you are what you eat' so too 'you are what you worship.' Ideas have consequences. Ideas have psychological consequences, societal consequences, and spiritual consequences. If the god you and your sect worship is a petty, angry, egotistical, mercurial, raging, murdering, irrational despot such as Jehovah, that is what you and the members of your sect will eventually become. If the god you worship indulges in murderous fits of rage, so will you and the members of your sect. If the god you worship shifts the blame for the woeful condition of the kosmos it fashioned onto your narrow shoulders, and tells you that you are born sinful, wicked, and fit only for hell-fire and damnation, your inner self will be fragmented and burdened with terrible guilt and self-loathing."

Contrary to what many people may believe upon reading this, Merritt is not exhorting his readers to become godless atheists. He is only revealing that the emperor god Jehovah, who has held sway over mankind for thousands of years, has no clothes. He is a pathetic thing, frankly far more worthy of our derision than our respect, much less our adoration.

Merritt DOES give us an alternative, as did Jesus. However, this alternative of a truly loving, infinitely merciful God, who only asked us not to sin, but didn't threaten us with eternal damnation if we occasionally slipped up, threatened the religious establishment. The early Gnostic Christians simply wanted to experience this perfect God of Love personally, but the Church of Rome couldn't allow this. This was because they, quite simply, wouldn't be needed anymore as an intercessor between man and the wrathful, punitive Jehovah-god. The Church slyly offered Jesus as a "way out" of perdition, but only if you accepted the premise that you are a sinful creature, inevitably cursed by your blood descent from Adam, the original sinner who dared to try to find out what was good, and what was evil.

I could go on and on, but then I would be writing a book myself. Spare me the trouble and just buy this book and read it for yourself. If you read it with the intention of "disproving" the author's points, you will learn nothing. You will only be condemning yourself to the same-old doctrine-infested "old time religion".

Emerge from the Darkness and come out into the Light. The water's fine out here.

I have read this book from cover to cover twice. I have shared it with my family and friends. They have been amazed. The truths contained in this book are mind altering, reality shaking and will absolutely turn your world upside down and inside out; in a very good and positive way.

Of course it will be scary at first to learn that everything you ever thought about the Old Testament God Jehovah was completely wrong, but once you embrace the truth about the loving Heavenly Father of Jesus and the you realize the Jehovah is a benefaker of jibes...

The amazing thing is that all this truth comes directly out of the bible. It becomes crystal clear once you can allow your mind to accept that even perhaps the God of the OT is not the TRUE GOD MOST HIGH.

Isaiah 14:1-28 tell it all so clear who is the creator of the world and the cause of all the suffering. Read the book and you will see for yourself.

Nathaniel Merritt has tackled The Problem of Jehovah, and has done an excellent job in uncovering the true nature of the Judeo-Christian "God". I found it very interesting to read the other reviews of this book. The reviews were quite revealing, in regard to the particular mind-set and prejudices of each reviewer.

I was brought up to believe that Jehovah was the One and Only True God, and, that he was also The Father, the God of Love, that Jesus proclaimed. Even as a child, I found it hard to reconcile the harsh, jealous God of the Old Testament with the loving Father of Jesus, as described in the New Testament. I found it hard to love this bloody, demanding God. Fear him - Yes. Love him - No. As I grew older, I noticed, as Merritt pointed out, that the majority of Christians that I knew acted more like Jehovah than Jesus.

The most insidious thing about religious programming is that it casts a veil over the mind, and it is extremely difficult to overcome. Reading about the terrible and destructive exploits of Jehovah should set off an alarm in any "normal" person's head. This is our loving Father?

Over the last 25 years, I have spent an inordinate amount of time in Biblical research. What I discovered shocked and disturbed me, but, it - definitely - lifted the veil. Along the way, I found out that the majority of educated Jews that I came in contact with don't believe that major portions of the Old Testament are Literal. They look at them as Allegory. I look at them as Horror, and unfit for children, as well as for adults.

Merritt's efforts in this book are reminiscent of the child in the children's story, "The Emperor's New Clothes". The child in the story loudly proclaimed that the Emperor was, in fact, naked ... It was all a con job, and the people were too intimidated to speak up. Like the child, Merritt is not deterred from speaking out the truth.

Nathaniel Merritt deserves a place of honor among his peers, the Honest biblical scholars who have risked it all in the name of truth. Do yourself a favor. Read this book.

This is a required text for a class of mine. Easy to read and follow along even if you're not a mathematically inclined person. Enjoy.

First things first: You have to really like maths to appreciate this book. If you have ever wondered how to prove Pythagoras' theorem geometrically, or would like to find out how Archimedes estimated pi, this is the book for you. If not, buy another.

The book has a good mix of stories, explanations and mathematical proofs. It actually answered questions I have been wondering about for a long time (proving Pythagoras' theorem and finding the formula for solving second order equations), but even if you are not the nerd I am, there is a big chance you will find this book fascinating.

This is a great book whether you are a fan of, or a practicing mathematician. Good reading and a great library reference addition.

This is a very nice and elegantly written book. The proofs of the theorems selected as great are presented in simple terms. They require no more then high school mathematics(although some of these proofs are not rigorous, for example on the summation of infinite series). The only problem I can see is with the choice of the theorems (too many from geometry) but of course that is a matter of taste. I would have given the book five stars if there had been a chapter on Godel's theorem in it.

William Dunham is the author of several books on the history of mathematics.

In this brief history of mathematics and mathematicians, the author, rather than writing a little bit about a large number of mathematicians, has provided longer treatments of a few. The 'few', naturally, being the most talented/famous from the earliest days. To include:

Hippocrates
Euclid
Archimedes
Heron
Cardano
Newton
The Bernoullis
Leibniz
Euler
Cantor

This book spends some time building and describing mathematical problems and concepts in ways that the average reader will understand. He also relates biographical information about the people who worked on them. Some of the history is quite fascinating, such as the practice in the middle ages of public challanges between mathematicians to solve problems, much like a gun fight of the Wild West.

This would make a good volume in any library.

Math teachers should own (and read) this.

I buy these bibles by the case as an evangeliziing tool - to give to people as gifts. Last week I heard a teenage girl light up in her group of friends expressing joy that this bible was a comic book - this made the others wish they too had listened and engaged in thoughtful discussion about the meaning of life. Of all the comic book like bible books, I like this one the best because it is very detailed and sticks to the words of the bible. It's good for all ages - helps people read the bible who otherwise would not, and learn the life lessons through biblical stories.

My parents purchased a Picture Bible for me in the early 1980's when I was a child. It truly made the bible stories come alive to me from a child's perspective. As a child it is sometimes difficult to visualize all the details within the a story of the bible but, the picture bible presents the stories in a pictorial comic-book layout that really brings it to life makeing it fun to read. I just purchased this picture bible for my daughther. It appears to be a reprint of the one I read years ago as a child. I would highly recommend it.

My Godson and his mother are really pleased with this Bible. It provides a good teaching tool, that is easier to follow than the King James version of the Bible. It is colorfully illustrated, and very easy to read.

I purchased this bible for my oldest daughter when she was only three years old. She has enjoyed reading this bible for years. I even went out and purchased this bible for my other three daughters as well since it was a hit with my first one. The pictures make learning the bible so much easier and make it so much more exciting to read for everyone. I would recommend this bible to everyone.

I've bought at least 4-5 different comic/picture Bibles for my kids.
This one stands out as the best in all categories.
The details, the accuracy to scripture, the color, the amount of picture, the price, all in all, this one tops them all.
During one summer, my son read the picture bible 7-8 times cover to cover.
He now excels at all bible trivial questions in Sunday school.

I have one for my son and one for my daughter.
Buy it, it's a great buy!

All stories from Richard Paul Evans are wonderful and this is no exeption.Read the trilogy is forth it.

The reviews were uniformly quite good for this novel, so I decided to give it a try. The story starts out slowly and takes some time to work up a bit of interest. The central character is a twenties-something working in a nursing home. Not typically the setting for a compelling plot.
A quick read-not one of my favorites.

The old lady is one of the strongest female characters in modern literature. Evans is a very capable writer.

With The Locket, Richard Paul Evans proves once again that when it comes to feel good, sentimental stories that tug at your heartstrings, he has no equal. As with his previous books The Christmas Box and The Letter, he utilizes his unique blend of fiction and inspirational writing to convey valuable messages of love, faith, forgiveness and redemption. His words take us on an emotional journey that leaves us reaching for the kleenex box as well as motivated to incorporate these precepts into our daily lives.

After the death of his mother, Michael Keddington takes a job at the Arcadia nursing home, where he meets parient Esther Huish, a woman who is instrumental in teaching Michael many valuable life lessons concerning forgiveness, overcoming insecurities, second chances and never putting things off until tomorrow.

The Locket of the title is Esthers gift to Michael. It serves as a symbol of the missed opportunities in her life and for Michael represents an opportunity to overcome a myriad of obstacles and begin his life anew.

This warm and beautiful story should kindle the flame of hope that burns in each of us. 4 1/2 stars

This was an excellent book! It wasn't just a typical romance, instead, it focused on what comes after falling in love. Devotion, kindness, and respect were themes in this novel. It was well-written, and kept my attention until the end.

This book is not about property investment. It's about Frank's unique recipe for a life well lived. Don't let the long hair and colourful clothes throw you. It is obvious Frank is a relatively young man of exceptional intelligence and energy to make your head spin. I doubt many of us could keep up with him.

Frank runs a tight ship with all the management devices you find in huge government bureaucracies - strategic planning sessions, mission statements, short-term planning and reviewing, performance indicators and staff audits. I suspect he's a shocking control freak.

I had never heard of Frank until a web ad enticed me to join his "webinar". He spoke only plain good sense. No sales nonsense endorsing risky problem-fraught strategies as I half expected. I knew he was absolutely the real deal when I read in his forward a warm acknowledgement of his ghost writer.

It is sad that there are imbeciles out there (see other reviews) that believe he writes his own testimonials or that his long hair invalidates his wisdom (it's actually an artefact of his wisdom as he explains fully).

If I could have read this book 30 years ago I wouldn't have spent so long in government.

Thanks to Frank I'll no longer be too embarrassed to wear a pretty bow tie when I'm consulting. And he has inspired me to exercise my "risk muscle" - it's time for me to "up the ante" in terms of my own real estate investment strategies. And he's challenged me to loosen up and let go of some of my "Scrooge-ish tendencies"

I'll make sure my eldest son and grandson get to read this book.

I strongly recommend this book for the entrepreneur. Ultra high end real esate is only McKinney's vehicle; his philosophy is universal. Those of us with the entrepreneurial bent tend to find unlimited places to go, things to learn, and projects to start. We often suffer as a result. Mr. McKinney's book is the epitome of Napoean Hill's clear thinking. He clearly has a steadfast moral compass, has thought through who he is, what he wants to accomplish, and how to do it. As a result he is highly successful and the world is better for it. A must read.
PS. Buy the book new - the profits go to McKinney's foundation that houses and supports the world's most poor.

This is one of the best books I've ever read. There are a handful of books I read annually such as the Bible (daily); How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie; Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill; The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Classon; and a few others. This book is on that list so much so that I've read at least a chapter of it weekly since reading it a few years back. It comes with 49 short, easy to read chapters with ACTION STEPS for each. For those of you that can do math- that means not counting three weeks vacation time you can read a chapter a week and DO something about it. Not getting three weeks a year off? You DEFINITELY need to read this.

But seriously, the points Frank McKinney makes in this book are simple, but profound-- my personal favorite is the lost art of taking great risks to attain great rewards. In our namby, pamby culture that values the illusion of stability and security this book is a breath of fresh air, and a real, tangible insight on how you can get fantastically wealthy from someone who's done it.

Running a close second is discovering your passion or "highest calling" as early as possible in life, and developing a vision for your passion. To paraphrase Thoreau "Live Deliberately!". So many people these days live like zombies. The light is on, but nobody is home. Nothing they do is by choice, or from the standpoint of being passionate about something and having a purpose, or vision for their lives.

I could point out the virtues of the whole book, but I don't want to re-write it for a review- so I'll end with my third favorite (which may actually be number one in terms of the order of IMPORTANCE to success) It is in Frank's words, taking the "lunch pail approach". In short- show up to work- consistently, persistently, on time and ready to work. Having run several companies, it amazes me how few people possess the integrity and self-discipline to carry out this first and most basic requirement for success. Woody Allen once joked (paraphrasing) that "80% of success is just showing up" and while it was his brand of self-depricating humour to explain why he, of all people, had done so many hit movies-- it's also very, very true. You can't hit a home run if you never step up to the plate, and you can't step up to the plate if you never show up to practice, and take the time to prepare. Showing up to the big game, or the big show-- seeing your name in the lights, starts with integrity and self-discipline in the little, unpleasant tasks of life that nobody sees you doing, and you don't get any credit for, but that you know you should be doing.

Frank McKinney seems outrageous--but this guy is all heart. He is a real inspiration and phenominal motivator. He's got an audio version out too but I think it's only available from his website. Although the phrase about "judging a book by it's cover" is a cliche, it truly applies to this author since you would never expect anyone with this persona to be so kind and generous to those less fortunate.

I cried reading this book, because it is so beautiful. Recommend it for all kind of families with small children, my son just loved it.

love this book. it gently opens a discussion about what being a mom to a child really means. we dont always "look" like our children and this book addresses that. specifically good for adopted children.

I love this book and my adopted daughter loves this book. Granted she is about to turn 2, however, she still will pick this book up for me to read regularly. I have recommended this book as well to the adoption forums I belong too. Great message we are all different and it is about the love.

My three-year-old adopted son from Ethiopia loves this book! Warning, though, the grumpy Mrs. Walrus has kind of freaked him out. I have to read her line with a really happy lilt to my voice. Depending on how sensitive your child is you may want to edit Mrs. Walrus's words/tone the first time you read it to your child. I don't think my son can imagine how/why an "adult" would say to a child, "Now go away. Leave me alone."

I bought this book a couple of weeks ago and he has, a few times since then, talked about being sad when he had no mommy and no daddy in Ethiopia. He was just a few months old when he was adopted and was in excellent care while living there so I'm guessing that this book has put that idea into his head. Not a bad thing...just be aware that it might bring out emotions in your child that he or she hasn't discussed before.

I absolutely adore this book. My sister gave it to us before we traveled to China to adopt our daughter. She's just over two now and has read this book with me dozens of times. We both love the illustrations, and even at a very young age, she "gets" the idea that Choco finds a mother in Mrs. Bear, regardless of the fact that they look nothing alike. (I confess I still get misty every time I read it.) The message is delightfully done--not schmaltzy, not overdone. I would recommend this to any family--adoptive or not.

I for one grabbed this book because I heard Dr. Nick on "Focus on the family" in an interview and again on another radio interview and held him to be a Christian based diet author with personal experience and a wealth of knowledge about the medical side of getting thin. However, the book came across to me as an attempt to appeal to the masses and sort of put the credit to God on the back burner or off to the side or in the shadows and I can't be as inspired by that as a christian or for that matter, before my salvation. I did learn some great insights from Dr. Nick but I am a believer in the power of God to do everything and that just didn't come accross in this book. So with regret I say this book is a testament to Dr. Nicks' great triumph over the "Idolotry" of food as he said in his interview, but it just didn't get me to go along. I hope he will in the future let his faith be more prominent in his story telling and trust in our Lord for the results more than his publisher. If you would like a good hepful book as a compliment to this one may I suggest,Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength

Not only entertaining but encouraging for anyone who wants to lose weight.
Very good suggestions for anyone no matter what age or genter.

I found the book at a local second hand store on their free pile one morning while taking my walk. I felt drawn to the book and promply picked it up and took it home .As I read I felt a kinship with the author. He knew/knows the heartache of being overweight. I could identify with him and the trials that he has experienced. I found too that the book made me feel that I too could accomplish great things, as the author had done. I too so appreciated the fact that he turned his life over the to Lord and knew from where his success really came. I am sharing the book with a friend and when I get it back I am rereading it.

Well done, good and faithful servant.

all are needed in abundance to lose weight. the more you are overweight the more you need them. constantly as your companions for the process of getting your body in good shape to do life.

It is not a diet book. it is not a how to do it book. it is a how i did it and why i did it fast paced, quick fun read.

being fat is sin. it stops you from being that good and faithful servant that the faith requires and God expects. the author leads the way, walks the path, is a real leader for this important insight.

This isn't a typical "diet" book, which I like. I've read enough diet books in my life to understand the basic concepts. Instead, this book chronicles one person's journey, including the heartache associated with being obese as well as the triumphs of losing signficant amounts of weight. It has been surprisingly motivational - I find myself thinking of the story throughout the day when I struggle with something, telling myself that if he did it, I can certainly do it too. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

I read this book 60 years ago as a young boy of 10. It made a tremendous impression on me with regards to the geography of the Great Lakes of the US and Canada. I was thrilled to find that it is still being printed and the pictures are the same as I remember--excellent. A wonderful story.

As others here have said, this is a true keeper. A babysitter read it to me when I was 10, and I never forgot it. I bought and read it to my kids when they were around that age, and they wouldn't let me put them to sleep without reading at least one chapter. It's educational, beautifully illustrated, and a touching story. I may have to fight with my kids over who gets to read it first to their kids! A treasure.

Wonderful illustrations and a book that will not bore an adult. Great learning tool for young readers.

This book was recommended to me on a recent sailing trip thru the Great Lakes. I bought it for my hometown library as it was a wonderful geography lesson. Truely a dateless book and a lovely present for a child or library.

I read Paddle-to-the-Sea as a child (I was born in 1942), and its story, illustrations and maps have left lasting impresssions on me. It blends social studies, geography, 20th Century American history and wonderful artwork into a gentle, loving tale. It ought to be required reading for all American youths.

I LOVE all of Holling Clancy Holling's books, but I have to admit that Paddle to the Sea is my favorite. The story of a little boy who carved a little man in a wooden canoe, and the adventures encounterd by the little man just captured my imagination. I never knew the Great Lakes until after feeling as though I had been there with Paddle to the Sea. H.C. Holling books are works of art packed with wonderful facts from science and geography. Any teacher's dream curriculum because you'll have the children enrapt attention! My sons love them as much as I do, and even now, they remember reading them as great memories.

The intricacy with which the author compares his job as a sheep farmer with the love of God opens one's mind to the all-incompassing work of the heaven Father on our behalf. However, just as he used his experiences to describe the shepherd's work which gives the reader a broader prespective of the attributes of God, I would have liked a little more of the mini steps that we, as sheep, can use to gain spiritual growth and be overcomers in the faith.

A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 This is a wonderful book. I have always loved Ps 23 and this book gives a clear meaning to what David was writing. I highly recommend.

I did not read the book right off but put it on a shelf. When I did start to read it I finished it in 2 days. It is really easy reading..it pulls you in the story and you feel like you are taking the journey with the shepherd yet you also begin to see yourself as the sheep and how Jesus is taking care of you. You get the views of both the shepherd and the sheep. It is a great book to give in lieu of cards or in addition. I gave copies to friends who lost loved one..when you don't know what to say but want to say something...the book speaks volume without speaking too loud. Many write that it's great for leaders of the church but it is also a great bedtime story for children. The sheep and what happens to them is great and the children learn the Psalm 23 in the process. It has helped me explain a grandparents death and child neglect to a child of one of their friends. The shepherd not taking care of his sheep as one stories is told was great explaining to a 5 yr. old why a friend was taken from her parent..she actual got it an said the parent must have been like the shepherd in the book who did not take good care of his sheep. This is a great book to give to a parent, leaders in any setting to understand their role in caring for those that they are leading in someway. Best book I've read on Psalm 23.

A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by Philip Keller is the perfect book for anyone who wants to understand the analogy of the relationship between an actual shepherd and his sheep and the relationship between Jesus, our Shepherd and us, the sheep. Each sentence of Psalm 23 is explained from both perspectives. The earthly applications bring light to the spiritual truths.
I would recommend this book to anyone, young or old in the faith. It is as good as any devotional, always pointing back to the Savior and Shepherd of our souls!

The 23rd. Psalm is certainly one of the most familiar passages in the Bible. Despite that fact, author W. Phillip Keller adds new depth and meaning to it as he shares his experiences as a shepherd as they relate to Psalm 23. He shows us that a good shepherd is sufficient for all of a sheep's needs if he will but follow and obey him. He describes how a shepherd sets up a cast sheep (one who has fallen on his back)on his feet just as our Good Shepherd can set us up on our feet after problems. He tells the reader the importance of the shepherd providing water and good food for a sheep just as God provides us with physical and spiritual nourishment. I would recommend this book to anyone--believer and non-believer alike, and to anyone who is going through tough times and needs reassurance of God's love and guidance.

What a masterpeice! I couldn't put it down. Daoud takes you deep within the heart and soul of South Beach, all the way down to its roots. At his book signing this talented author and intense speaker along with associates painted clear pictures of what transpired in america's riviera. Everybody who watched scarface got an ideal what Miami was like back then, Sins of South Beach is what happened back then!I can't wait for the movie! This book is a must have!

This startling page-turner describes in the greatest detail how the Miami Beach government sank into a morass of corruption. Ex-Mayor Alex Daoud confesses his misdeeds with complete frankness. He also fearlessly outs the powerful cronies and elected officials that bought and sold favors. The tell-all frequently slips into narcissism, particularly when recounting sexual trysts, but how could it be otherwise? - this is a politician's memoir.

An expose of a brilliant, handsome and up-coming young attorney getting involved in an illustrious political career which ultimately brought it to a most humiliating and humbling end. I give Alex Daoud much credit for courageously telling his side of the South Beach debacle and how he was caught up into a vacuum of corruption and couldn't extricate himself in fear for his life. A very human side of Alex emerged in his tell all tale "Sins of South Beach." Bravo ! ! !

Just couldn't put this book down! A real page turner! I own a condo on SoBe since the early '90s, but visited during the '80s. Saw how the area was built up and changed for the better. It's a shame that corruption was needed in order to accomplish this effort. Really tells you a lot about how politics work in South Florida.

Being new to South Beach, I had no idea how things were here 15+ years ago. Crime ran rampant, an over-zealous and exorbitant redevelopment plan was threatening to demolish residences, senior citizens were living in slum-like conditions - it was not a popular place to live.

Look at South Beach now. It is a city pulsing with action and sparkling like diamonds with it's new found wealth where the rich and famous come to play.
