Confusion in the middle name Dresdin, I guess.

Waddington founded operations research mathematics during
WWII, devolved about an assembly of British anti-submarine
aircraft. Photos were taken of attacks, and the assembly
modified.

Waddington's group, including Fraser (structural orthoganality,
as noted, Thom, Goodwin, Elssaser, others.

A set of books by a collection of theortical biologists.

Goodwin's book, Temporal Organization in Cells, was
computerized by Fraser.

If there is a paradigm shift somewhere in here,...

perhaps, ocular brain dysfunction.. the signpost well marked
by the WWI doctor, Dr. Gordon Holmes.

C. H. Waddington, a geneticist who died in 1975 and wrote on a wide variety of scientifically-related subjects for professional and popular audiences, presents here a survey of theories and methods for dealing with complex systems, including human beings and human societies. Waddington includes "Considerations of complex shapes, of interactions, of processes, of stabilities, traffic of information and instructions, games theories, forecasting, statistics and more classical scientific analyses..." (232). On the minus side some of his emphases such as the importance of catastrophe theory for understanding system changes may seem dated. His compendium of cross-disciplinary methods, necessarily abstract, provides difficult reading at times. On the plus side, Waddington's clear writing style makes the process easier. His philosophy reinforces and resonates with Alfred Korzybski's non-aristotelian views. Waddington urged throughout a reassessment of how we think in order to move beyond what he calls the "Conventional Wisdom of the Dominant Group" or "COWDUNG" (16).

As a home educator, I'm always looking for books that will draw my kids into the time period that they are studying. Tools of the Ancient Romans does this perfectly. Through reading and hands-on activities, kids will gain an understanding of what life was like in ancient Rome. The main text is full of information that kids will find interesting, and peppered throughout are sidebars offering further detail. Each activity relates to the text as kids try their hand at making projects such as an abacus, an amphora or a Roman medal. These activities are great for letting all kids delve into the ancient Roman era, but especially good for kinesthetic learners, as they can get their hands involved in learning!

I received this book as a Christmas present. My friend said it was a gift that would keep on giving. My friend was right! This is an excellent tool for every believer! It is a handy manual that I reference daily to keep in mind the tools that God has given us as believers, that we might be better equipped to beat the devil at his own destructive game!

Vygotsky blows Piaget out of the water!

This is an excellent resource. I think it is a tragedy that Vygotsky's educational and developmental philosophies have taken this long to be distributed in America and taken seriously. We would have a completely different educational system and level of achievement in our public schools were the teachings in this book made the norm and mastery of it was required before anyone got ahold of our young children in schools (or in the home in the role of parents generally or homeschooling parents). There is nothing I would have wanted to know before purchasing the product because I was familiar with Vygotsky theories from graduate studies in clinical psychology. Again, an excellent book. So much more relevant and quite frankly, accurate and helpful than any methods based soley on child-led learning and/or Piaget.

If You Don't Understand The Vygotskian Approach...

...look no further than this book. Even though reading Lev Vygotsky's own words in MIND IN SOCIETY is irreplaceable, most of us teachers have little time or patience to wade through that theoretical complexity.

Thus, Bordrova and Leong give us an excellent way to both understand V's theory and how it applies to each set of early childhood age ranges. Personally, I the infant and toddler sections are the most valuable because embellishing intersubjectivity at the earliest possible point of development will increase the child's ability to navigate and learn within an increasingly complex social setting.

Glorious text.

Joanne Klassen has taken a skill we all learn in school, how to write, and turned it into a tool for personal growth. Her insights into how writing can release our inner selves in ways more profound than we ever thought are wonderful. The book gives practical tips on how to turn short periods of writing into a life changing activity. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has ever picked up a pen, pencil or crayon.

Viewing things as a whole instead of focusing on the parts definitely makes more sense to me. When you think of a car, you don't think about what makes the wheels turn, how the brakes work or what makes the headlights illuminate, you think of the car as a whole - the fully integrated system. Why we would view our organizations any different is a habit that must be broken. Great reading, short and simple.

A great book for anyone who needs immediate clarification on the field of Systems Thinking. As soon as you open the book, you start using what the author calls "backwards thinking" and you begin to understand why it is much simpler to achieve the desired outcome by focusing on the goal versus putting time and energy into steps that will lead you nowhere. When you have what you want in mind, you create the possibilities to get there. Simple and entertaining reading. A book you can use for the rest of your life.

We do a lot of do-it-yourself home improvements, so when I surprised my big guy and little guy with this "tool box" they both had smiles on their faces. My son is only six months old, so he doesn't quite appreciate WHAT the tools represent, but he does like to wave the tools around while Dad tries to show him what they are for. It's a lot of fun to watch. My son doesn't have teeth, yet, but when he does get teeth, we will have to watch out for biting the foam...it's strong, but not that durable.

Highly recommended!

My 2 year old nephew loved the other soft shape books. This one was no exception. We gave it to him when his new sister arrived and let him know not only would he have to help Mommy with his new sister, but he'd have to help Dad around the house now that he's not the baby anymore. He loves it. At a year old he just liked to eat the foam books, now he reads them and takes out the removable pieces, in this book, they are hammer, screw driver, etc, stacks them in neat piles and then puts the pieces back in the appropriate pages, it's like a book and puzzle all in one.

Louise Dunlap has done it! This is the practical writing guide that, hopefully, will make writer's block an endangered species. It is so sensible in the way the book works with our natural tendencies to achieve professional results. Even just the one chapter on The Process Tool is worth the price of admission. Such an enjoyable read, who would think I would be glued to this yesterday while waiting in the dentist's chair? I am buying 5 copies tonight for my colleagues. They are going to think I am a hero, but it's really Louise.

Informed and informative as it is instructively effective.

Use Your Table Saw Safely

Review Date: 2000-03-31
I found this text to be extremely helpful. Often one feels comfortable using a tool because of experience and lack of difficulty with the basics. This book opened my eyes with respect to basic setup to optimize safety, efficiency as well as introducing me to many uses I hadn't previously understood. There are some great plans for various jigs that make working with the saw alot easier; I described one to my brother, a professional woodworker, who hadn't previously seen this jig and figured it might have saved his fingertips. The text and illustrations are easy to understand. I think nearly everyone might learn a significant new approach from this book.

This is damn good book! Whatever you`re an experienced woodworker, amateur, or just started learning on the table saw, the tricks, techniques, consels, examples and pictures got me more confortable using the bench saw. And a bonus, the jigs presented in the book made me save a lot of time ... and money !
