Like a few other military books Bayonets: An Illustrated History by great author Martin J. Brayley gives us an accurate descritpion and amazing, extensive photographic material to illustrate each and every example.
For collectors and simpatizers alike this is a book worth having in any military collection.

Photography in this book is excellent and sometimes the visuals are better than the text in aiding identification. The author points out some nuances in transitions that I had not encountered before. I felt it was worth the price and very handy as a quick reference.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked the projects on beading around freeform crystals and seaglass. The beaded eyeglass and small bottles were also great. There are a few other quirky beaded items, but the rest of the book is useless. I should say I am an advanced beader, so the many projects on beading around a simple bezel don't interest me. So, if you're a mid to advanced beader, there isn't that much new.

I was very pleased to find this book! Basic instructions for right angle weave that are easy to follow, Ladder Stitch, Even Number Flat Peyote, Vertical Netting (or Lattice Weave,) Back Stitching and Couching.
Good Chapter for Straps, Necklaces and Fringe WITH PICTURE INSTRUCTIONS. Lots of ideas for odd ball beads and not beads that you can use in your beadwork.

It has a Wonderful Chapter (4) on Beading cabochons with some fresh Unique ideas for beaded straps and the stones. One is done with a Amethyst crystal wedge. Very clear instructions. She has some pictures of beaded brooches made with doughnuts and disks embellished with with beads that start in the center and work their way to the edges that I find inspiring. SHe even beaded a Magnifying Glass Necklace!

I found this book by accident while searching for beadwork books on Amazon.com and I'm soooooo glad I did! It includes many techniques for incorporating a variety of things into your beadwork and rather than offering only one design solution it gives lots of options. For example, I especially appreciated the inclusion of techniques for incorporating cabochons and larger found objects such as rocks and slabs without using the technique of gluing the object to a backing and couching around it but rather using beadwork exclusively to capture the object. Lots of eye-candy and interesting suggestions. This turned out to be a better all-around book of techniques than I expected it to be and I know I will refer to it often. It does have lots of projects in it if you want to just follow along and more or less copy them, but it also gives different techniques for straps, focals, etc. so you can mix and match them. I wish more beading books were like this one -- it really helps to expand a beader's design options!

This book is a keeper. The projects are delightful and instructions are clear. With Carole's pointers in mind, there are so many places to look other than bead shops for findings and inspiration. In addition, the book describes new ways of using old stitches that leave the reader with ideas of her own to pursue. Included are pictures of what other bead artists have done using the instructions from this book as a springboard for their ideas. "Beaded Jewelry with Found Objects" is a treasure for anyone who loves beading, and just looking through it is fun. Warning: looking through this book will leave you twitching to start a new beady project ... okay, okay, it'll leave you twitching to start A LOT of new beady projects.

I passed by this book a few times but I needed a bead book fix so I ordered and I'm happy I did. The designs are imaginative and there is a wealth of techniques to try. They are explained well with excellent diagrams. Lots of eye candy to boot.

Linda Joy Myer's book is an invaluable resource for the memoir writer. Tackling memoiries can be daunting and emotionally draining. Where to start? What to include? How to be self-nurturing on a this difficult journey? Linda has the answers.

I am writing a memoir with the guidance of Linda Joy Meyers' book. It is not an easy task to re-live the past, yet I have found that with the inspiration of this book, I am able to move through my story with guidance and support. I am now almost done with the first draft! Thank you Linda for all your insights and help.

Linda Joy Myers writes with the voice of a compassionate teacher. Her stories and her students' made me cry (crying is healing for me); her writing exercises are priceless; the Developmental Questionnaire is "memory provoking" -- all this in one book. Wow!

What I liked most about Dr. Myers' book was her combination of inspirational words and practical exercises. I've read other books on how to write memoirs and not been as impacted as I was by this one. The author concludes each chapter with suggested writing exercises, which is a great way to make the lessons real. It also helped me get past my reluctance to present my truest self on the page. I got what I needed from your book, thank you Linda Joy Myers!

The works of A.W. Tozer force the reader to think. His essays are original, unorthodox, sometimes profound, provocative, and frequently brilliant. These are well written, logical commentaries. Christians of all denominations will benefit from Tozer's insights. Highly recommended.

Im a "Born again Christian for 14 years now. Of all christian books that i have read, The Pursuit of God is the only book that make me cry. By reading this book, you will convince that God really exist. A.W. Tozer is really a modern day prophet of the living God.

AW Tozer is a man of God who was self-taught (many times on his knees before the open Bible) and not seminary trained, because he could not afford to go to seminary. But his learning was through the Spirit of God and his diligence. And this book, "Best of AW Tozer (vol.1)" IS indeed great summary of Tozer's spirituality (Thanks to Warren Wiersbe who compiled and selected these chapters from Tozer's numerous books). In this book, Tozer teaches us in sum:
1. What is essential Chrisitan life? He talks of believers' NEED for genuine love for Christ and His Return. For example Tozer accurately points out, "Another reason for the absence of real yearning for Christ' return is that Christians are so comfortable in this world that they have little desire to leave it... in these times of religion has become jolly good fun right here in this present world, and what's the hurry about heaven anyway?" (p.57). Such words challenge our heart of hearts. And there are more words like this in this book.
2. What is proper knowledge of God? He does not mean merely doctrinal or theological side of it (though he emphasizes it elsewhere in the book), but also experiential walk with God and seeking Him. He said, "[holy men and women] want to taste, to touch with their hearts, to see with their inner eyes the wonder that is God... The evil habit of seeking 'God-and' effectively prevents us from finding God in full revelation. In the '-and' lies our great woe. If we omit the '-and,' we shall soon find God" (pp. 17,18). He is right. And there are more helpful, challenging, and edifying articles in the book.

Those who read this book will not be disappointed, because Tozer redirects believer's focus onto God and God alone.

This volume is actually the second "Best of"... look closely at the picture (top). I just received it.

The Un-apologetics ~ is a characterization based on the fact the Tozer states quite strongly that he will not apologize, water down, or oversimplify God's Word... It provided great direction for me. I love the essay on worship.

This takes some of Tozer's most memorable work and condenses it for easy reading in short sessions. As always, Wiersbe make learning and studying a joy!!

Well, it is about time a small compact book with full color photos showing male, female, winter and summer plumage was available. Actual bird photos are so much better than a drawing or a black and white shot. So many times, I have seen a strange bird and could not find enough information as to what type it was, now I can.
I gave the book a 4 instead of a 5 because the description did not tell where the nests were located, the nesting materials used, nest designs or egg shapes and colors. I found by accident that the Kildeer lay eggs on open ground, are ready to eat and run within a few hours after birth and that the parents carry the broken eggs away from the hatching. This bird lore is very interesting and this type of description should be included for each bird.
But overall, a great bird information source and perfect for beginners like me!

I made this purchase from the Amazon reviews of the item. It is very easy to use,and the pictures are excellent. Now I know which birds are using my feeders.

I really like this book, especially the way the birds are grouped by size within color-tabbed sections. Also, male & female birds, when notably different, are on different pages. The index has a box next to each named bird so it's easy to record which birds you've spotted. However, I took away 1 star because I think some of the birds need more than 1 view, and I've seen some birds in my yard that are not in the book. Overall, I would recommend this book. The size makes it portable enough to take anywhere, and the organization and indexing make it easy to use.

This book has been great for the whole family. We bought 2, one for my Dad (PaPa) and one for our family. Both of my children (2 and 4) love to look at the pictures and talk about the birds. The birds are separated by color so it's very easy to look up one just seen in the yard. A good buy that we'll be using for years!!

I'm not a twitcher, I'm a photographer. I love the birds, but have no clue about their taxonomy. For years I have battled against books that just don't work the way my mind does.

This book is a fantastic and simple way to identify bird by color and size, and using it has not only brought the pleasure of identifying the bird, but has also improved my own observation of the birds I'm looking at.

For example, initially I might have just noted, say, a 'brown bird with a black bit on it' - and might find that the a couple of options might potentially match (I'd have to look again at the bird to confirm which one it was). After a while using the book, I now find myself looking for the kinds of information that I know will come up in the descriptions - perhaps the chest color, eye color, size and color of the bill, and so on.

This book has given me and my family a huge amount of pleasure. Top job, Mr Tekiela.

Bought this at suggestion of park naturalist. Well organized so you can search by color and size. Very pleased with this compared to some other books. Delivery was timely.

good and easy to understand. sectioned to types of trees so you dont have to look thru the whole book to find your tree. lots of good pictures and info in a hand size unclunky type field guide. good author (also has "birds of indiana" which is an excellent book).

My favorite feature is the Compare section. Look up a bird, and the compare section advises you to look at other similar colored birds to ensure you have correctly identified the bird. The author took special pains to include page numbers for the birds, making it very easy to jump from page to page.

The author gives females their own page, which means you can thumb the book looking for a muted colored bird and be able to identify it.

Wonderful photos, easy to use color guides. I really love the quick info on how to tell the difference of similar birds. My 8 year old son and I checked this book out of the library first to be able to identify our backyard visitors but loved it so much and he quickly was able to use it we just had to buy our own copy. I would highly recommend it.

This is a well organized, easily accessible guide covering the most commonly encountered birds. Something like The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America might be in order as a supplement to this fine volume, but on the whole Birds of Indiana will suffice for most backyard bird watching. A great gift for the budding ornithologist, or just to learn what that bird is you see at the feeder so often.

This is my fav book. Ever since i found it at the age of 13, i've never been able to let it go. I lent it to a friend in high school and never got it back. I was elated to find it on amazon. I loved it so much I named my firstborn Adam. :) I cant wait to read Mossrose. I never even knew there was a sequel...so i'm real excited. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a true romantic. It has everything a book should have and then some. It really is a true romance. The best ever written. Thank you Day Taylor for writing something so wonderful, i could only hope that my novels be nearly as good as The Black Swan.

I have read the Black Swan by Day Taylor many, many times since it first came out. The book is so riviting, I could hardley put the book down. This book has everything that any reader of gothic romance books are looking for: romance, danger, pirates, evil men and the culmination of the Civil War. The sequel to the Black Swan, Moss Rose, is just as good as the Black Swan. I must have read these two books ten to twenty times and it still holds me in it grasp. There have been very few books that can hold my attention that many times. I think Day Taylor is one terrific writer, I wish she would write more books like these two. Keep up the good work, Ms. Taylor.

I first read this book when I was in my teens, and it left a lasting impression as I have remained interested in this style of writing ever since. Day Taylor's writing style really makes you connect with the characters and leaves you unwilling to put the book down for even a second. Adam Tremain is a man who could make any woman swoon and his incredible story from adolescense in the pre-war south to his privateering adventures as a man to be reckoned with leave you wanting more from this writer. I regret to say that I have lost my copy of this book over the years, but consider it to be one of the best books I have ever read, and reread.

Excellant book for gaining Historical information about Blackwork (not just patterns). Well written & interesting to read. Recommend to anyone wanting to know the background of the technique.

As a historical reenactor I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It's full of pictures of period portraits with lovely black work designs.

Many dim and fuzzy pictures, but a lovely historical needleworkers reference. Worth having in your library, and a good inspirational boost. I wouldn't consider it a pleasure read, or a quality how-to, but something in between, and wothwhile nonetheless.

This book has a lot more information on blackwork than I was expecting, so as a researcher, I find it very useful. On the other hand the patterns contained therein, are not as many as I wanted, most of them I had seen comparable ones before.

If you are a girl, know a girl or have ever been a girl, this is the book for you. This anthology of the collected writings of teenage girls and their women mentors uplifts, inspires and transforms.

Also, when you purchase a book you help support a noble cause and allow this non-profit mentoring program to continue providing its much needed service.

This is a great book filled with every emotion under the sun! It made me laugh, cry and sing. I applaud the women and girls who gave so much of themselves to make this book a reality. A definite must read!

This book is just as other reviewers have said, inspiring. I have to add something that the other reviewers haven't said, which is that the design is one of the best I've seen for this type of book. It's a real pleasure for the eye, and very imaginatively done without distracting from the reading.

This book is so beautifully put together. I was looking for a writing guide for my 12 year old daughter -- at first, I did not think this book was it, but I'm a teacher and I was curious. BOLD INK is truly amazing. there are poems and stories from young girls, but there are also little blurbs explaining how they went about the writing process. My daughter devoured this book and has written so much more than she ever has. I think that adults can teach children all they want, but it is the lessons from their peers that they really take to heart.

What a great book! I can hardly wait for the next Dodie Cross book to be released. In the meantime, I will reread A Broad Abroad in Thailand. Dodies writing style reminds me of Erma Brombeck stories which I so loved. When I read Dodies book, I felt as if I was making the journey to Thailand with her. I feel anyone purchasing this book will be looking for more of Dodie Cross and her
journeys.

I purchased this book because, as an expat who lives in thailand, it seemed like a great idea. Overall, it's an easy read and certainly has quite a few shares of laughs. However, quite a large portion of the book is devoted to her doomed marriage to a horny jerk- something I really didn't sign up to hear about! Her adventures, although I feel for her, were also not quite as adventurous as I expected- and while I commend her for making a trip to the mall to buy underwear interesting, it's still just that. Same thing goes for eating in reataurants, taking public transportation, and getting a massage. Her bad experience with the hospitals make me grimace as well- I have had fabulous healthcare in bangkok and would hate for anyone to confuse Pattaya a few years back with modern hospitals in thailand.
All in all, I would love to sit down with her and have a few drinks and relive the quirks of living here, but can't say I would reread the book.

Dodie is my friend and I learned many things I never knew about her.
I knew she was fun, a great story teller and a wonderful person.
Her book made me laugh, it made me cry, but most of all I have an even
deeper appreciation for who she truly is. I read the entire book on a plane flight from coast to coast and believe me the flight went quickly.
I even caught my husband reading it. No one can take a serious situation
and make you enjoy reading about it like Dodie. Thailand was not a place I
wanted to go, but the trip was worth it with Dodie.

Living abroad in Thailand is not always all it is said to be as author Dodie Cross quickly realized. The result of her near year-long adventure? A "laugh out loud must-read memoir" called A Broad Aboard in Thailand An Expat's Misadventures in the Land of Smiles.

When newly widowed Dodie first met and became involved with Dick, she had no idea what lay in store for her. When Dick is offered an incredible job opportunity in Thailand, there is no question that Dodie wanted to go along. Pushed into a quick marriage, the two soon set off for lands unknown.

Their first experiences in Thailand were luxurious. If only the same could be said for the rest of her stay. Dick and Dodie are soon moved into a new company-owned home and begin to realize very quickly that this wonderful opportunity came with some serious strings attached.

Dodie is fortunate to find many allies and friends. Faithful Pon, Dodie's live-in housekeeper and friend very quickly earned a place in Dodie's heart, as did the "beautiful orphans" Dodie considered herself fortunate to work with at the Pattaya Orphanage. The ladies from the Pattaya International Ladies' Club (PILC) also played a large part in comforting Dodie and helping her to keep her sanity but at the same time were part of an on-going problem Dodie had with the boss' wife, Mrs. Anorexia or Mrs. A for short (named changed to protect the guilty).

While the area and the friends Dodie made would endear Thailand to her forever, problems followed her almost from the beginning of this fateful journey. The primary problem Dodie faced was Dick. Dick suffered from an addiction and had, at times some extreme issues. This would be a large part of their undoing. Competing with Dick for "problem of the trip" was the insufferable control freak Mrs. A. While not an employee of The Company, Mrs. A issued many rules regarding nearly every aspect of the lives - both public and private - of the employees and their wives. To cross Mrs. A or to break one of her and her husband's rules was to earn an instant trip back to the States. Unfortunately for Dodie, she and Mrs. A were at cross purposes almost constantly. Medical problems, a near fatal accident and probably countless blunders in dealing with the Thai people all plague Dodie as well.

This memoir, though thick, is very difficult to put down. Dodie Cross has achieved a great accomplishment: her readers will feel an almost immediate connection to her. They will feel her anxiety, her stresses, her amusement and most certainly with groan along with her at the mere thought of Mrs. A. Mrs. Cross is to be applauded for this outstanding book.

"A Broad Abroad in Thailand" promised to be a book that I could relate to in several ways. Being an expat myself, I always find what other expats have to say about their new countries fascinating; I've always considered myself a broad and I absolutely adore Thailand. So at a first glance I found it hard to imagine that the book could live up to my expectations...

Having read a fair number of books about expat life and experiences, I mostly found them quite imbalanced and superficial. Granted, most of the authors were rather young, but in the majority of cases I was just not overly impressed by them. Dodie Cross' "A Broad Abroad in Thailand" is definitely an exception. The author never tries to hide the fact that she was no spring chicken when she headed to the Land of Smiles, which certainly gives an interesting spin to her observations. We get to learn more about orphanages and healthcare than we do about beach parties and bars, which in my opinion is a nice improvement. Ms. Cross also nicely balances the funny-to-hilarious misadventures with more serious issues and her `who-could-ever-understand-those-habits' moments with her obvious admiration and respect of Thailand, its culture and its people.

Ms. Cross' memoir begins with a hasty marriage to a golf instructor, which is needed in order for her to be able to accompany him to his new position in Thailand. Although she is not totally certain that marrying Dick (and oh, what an appropriate name for him!) is such a great idea, she decides to go forward with it. Their move to a new country is very eventful - as those moves tend to be... Very soon she is battling not only a badly cracking marriage to a sex addict, but also countless rules and regulations imposed by the wife of Dick's boss, the overpowering Ms. Anorexia. Ms. Cross would rather get to know her new country and meet the people, but all such attempts are considered by Ms. Anorexia as against the rules. Then along comes the near-fatal accident on the infamous Sukhumvit Highway - which truly is at least as bad as described by Ms. Cross as well as a bladder surgery with unexpected results. Dick is not thrilled by Dodie's restored virginity, the boss is not thrilled by Dick and Ms. Anorexia is just generally not thrilled with anything, particularly not with Dodie. Such is the sorry state of affairs overall, which will only lead to more trouble. You will, however, have to read the book for yourself to learn how Dodie resolves the situation.

Having seen that Ms. Cross has also lived in New Orleans among other places, I will definitely keep an eye out for a book about those experiences. According to the little addendum, she is already working on one about her life in Iran, so I can only hope that the New Orleans one will be next. As for "A Broad Abroad in Thailand," I found it well written and very enjoyable. If you need something to brighten your day, just read one of the funnier chapters, maybe the one about mastering the use of Thai toilets or the joys of buying underwear in a strange country. You will feel so grateful that you do not have to deal with any of this that your day will immediately improve. Great read for expats, expats-to-be, wanna-be- expats, travelers and just about anybody else with a sense of humor.
