Excellent book. I highly recommend it. Although Computational Intelligence could include almost any subject, this book is a comprehensive review of the most agreed-upon paradigms in CI. Haven't checked out the CD that comes with the book, so I cannot comment about it.

Computer Algebra And Symbolic Computation: Elementary Algorithms by mathematician and computer expert Joel S. Cohen is a scholarly text and a seminal reference to the science of computer algebra and programming elementary mathematical expressions both iteratively and recursively. Structures of polynomials and rational expressions, exponential and trigonometric transformations are also covered in this solid teaching tool packed with exercises and sample code. An accompanying CD provides the student with the entire print text, useful internet hyperlinks, and complete algorithms. Highly recommended.

cd format mac incompatibility fixed (for me)
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2002-02-27
Contacted Springer who manufactured cd in microsoft format incompatible to mac today (26Feb2002).

... These authors are masters. Each author, I find from surfing on the web, has a computer learning lab. The early reading introduces the fact that without the constraints of paper, undergraduates can learn to compose solutions to more realistic problems, eg. golf balls do not go on parabolas but do depend on your irons and crosswinds.

My last read text by the same authors, "Nonlinear Physics with Maple" edition 1 was a really inspiring book full of exercises. A master of solitons, Ablowitz, wrote (with) "Complex Variables" available at [Amazon.com]. Riemann Hilbert problems chapter 7 ought to further flesh out "Nonlinear Physics with Maple" last chapter concerning inverse scattering method in a to me readable manner.

I am french, so excuse my english ;-)

- Good history of modeling language and representations systems.
- Excellent explanation of relation between logic and UML
- Clear example
- Each chapiter have a "Bibliographical Notes", so... you can go futher a you need
- Excellent chapiter on metamodeling
- MOF and XMI chapiter are short, but the essence ar there.

I strongly recommand this book for person concern by
- system representation
- system architecture
- interest by "formal" UML representation
- Should be hard for beginner

Frequency Domain Numerical Stability
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2006-06-08
This book provides an excellent description of many different integration schemes and describes their regions of stability. Understanding numerical stability is a necessity for modeling and simulation engineers. It is possible to simulate an unstable system with simulation results that appear stable. Cellier explains how and why this can happen as well as explaining other pitfalls of simulating continuous systems.

A good reference to the bundle method
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-01-27
Lemarechal and Kiwiel introduced the bundle method in the 80's as a means to optimise nonsmooth convex functions. Recently Christoph Helmberg developed a spectral bundle approach to solving semidefinite programs, by rewriting SDP's with a constant trace as eigenvalue optimisation problems. The Spectral bundle methods outperforms the traditional interior point approaches to SDP's as these methods are typically unable to handle large SDP's with a large number of constraints.

This book provides a detailed description of the bundle method for nondifferentiable optimisation. I am going to purchase a copy of this book (I already have volume one with me) and can only strongly recommend the book to anyone interested in nondifferentiable optimisation and semidefinite programming.

Data Stream Mining book
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-14
This book is about mining data streams (or data stream mining). Its title is not very accurate but if you see its TOC you will easily understand.
It covers the main areas of data stream mining and is accurate and informative.
Recommended if you are interested in data streams or data stream mining or mining data streams.

PS. There are some small typos at the first 30 pages of the book.

An elegant, concise guideline to patient management.
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1999-04-03
As a former student of Dr. Souza's I may be somewhat biased, but this book is essential for any chiropractor, chiropractic student, or other health professional who is interested in patient management from a Chiropractic perspective. The book is exhaustive in its' scope, dealing with most ailments in an anotomic manner. Included are flowcharts which summarize appropriate orthopedic tests for determining the exact cause of each condition, the chiropractic management of the condition, and indications for referral. This book is invaluable in Chiropractic college, and is useful in practice as well, especially when encountering rare and unusual conditions.

Delightful book
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-29
This is a delightful book showing how probability can be made to come alive by using Monte Carlo simulation. Wonderful examples are given to demonstrate this. A little experience in Excel or Matlab suffices to solve by simulation interesting probability problems that are otherwise not easily amenable to an analytical solution. The book is an excellent appetizer for more mathematical books combining probability and simulation such as the highly recommended books Understanding Probability: Chance Rules in Everyday Life by Henk Tijms and Intuitive Probability and Random Processes using MATLAB by Steven Kay.
