Tools and Equipment Books

"The Next Whole Earth Catalog" was seminal in crystallizing a way of conceiving of alternative tools, and providing access to them when it was published in the early 1980s. It's also significant in emblematizing a way of thinking that emerged perhaps with Earth Day in 1968, and which has been an interesting cultural current underlying green architecture. In this book, Brand identified Christopher Alexander's "A Pattern Language" (Oxford University Press, 1977) as the most significant work in the catalog. Both of these beautiful and conceptually far-reaching books can be delightful reads on a Sunday morning, and so much more. One of the things that Stewart Brand, who put "The Next Whole Earth Catalog" together, has gotten involved with recently is "The All Species Foundation," which attempts to identify and catalog how many species there are - an interesting project.

One of the most informative books I've read on the subject. Very simple and illustrativly formatted. If your looking for the one book this one is it. When using this book with the repair manual of a specific manufacture you will have all the information you need at your fingertips.

I'm glad I got a copy of this book - it was just what I needed. There's almost too much info in it. Very useful for keeping me knowledgeable in the shop.

I am planing to build up a shop from scrath. This book was a nice acquisition in order to give ideas for what to build.
The book has nice pictures it is filled with several different well explained furniture plans (with all steps to build them and also several view points fro those who have hard time figuring what to do with a plan). Some are really interesting to have specially if you don't have a big shop. Some nice ideas are given in order to make your shop furniture movable, including (as the picture in the cover) heavy machinery like planers and circular saws.
However, be aware that this is a how-to book and it does not discuss shop plans or other stuff like this... it is focused in building things.
One of the top instructions was how to make the workbench top from hardwood strips... very useful.
Overall: a very nice book. It is well worth the money I spent on it.

I really love this book. It's very educational and it is visually appealing as well. I'm sure it will be a very handy reference book.

Builder's Library is a compilation of articles that appeared in Fine Homebuilding magazine published by Taunton Press. The series covers home improvement and remodeling topics including tiling, ceramic tile, carpentry, woodworking, tools, framing, masonry, window and skylight issues.

Although Rohlfs and Wilson have only made perfunctory changesbetween this and the previous edition of the book, it still stands asone of the best introductions to the field of radio astronomy. It still doesn't cover some topics (such as calibration techniques) as well as I would have liked, and Kraus' _Radio Astronomy_ (2e) does a better job (IMHO) on the mathematical details as well as specific applications. Because of its length, the topics of millimeter and submillimeter astronomy are not covered in as much as centimeter wavelengths. However despite all this, the book is highly readable for a student in the field, and is invaluable to have on one's bookshelf, or even to take observing (for those who only dabble in radio astronomy).

In 1898 Henderson and Company created an illustrated trade catalog advertising tools, fertilizers and gardening equipment: this reprints a very rare volume which will intrigue social historians and any with an interest in early American history. Many an antiques collector will also find this useful, including over six hundred black and white illustrations of farm tools.

Only few pages but worth reading for people who sell electric tools. Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp is a company who sells very good products for fire station, police station and military. This brand has a good reputaion in Poland and Europe.
