Good introduction to golf

This book will enable the beginning golfer to carry a reasonably intelligent conversation while hitting the links the first time. A couple of minor rules errors (e.g., a provisional ball should be hit from the place the lost ball was hit, not from the place the golfer thinks it got lost) do nothing to detract from the enjoyment of this book, and it is truly useful. While the free lesson given in this book will do nothing to help your game (never take a lesson from someone who hasn't played the game in years), this book will definitely help you on the 19th hole.

If you are into a bit of golf trivia, history, or even instruction this is your book. The only problem is, none of these areas are covered in depth. I was a bit disappointed.

This book has a lot of interesting trivia, however as far as finding the answers to the questions it is very confusing. I've been interested in trivia books for quite awhile and I found this one to be the most frustrating to work with. It's really a shame since there is really quite a bit of fun information and trivia.

A very complete reference book

I really liked this one. It is compact, the sections are quite complete and it is easy to use for any occasion.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Being a Brit of Italian extraction I felt there was a lot about my blood-country which I didn't know - and I was right !

The book has left me with an overwhelming feeling of pride knowing that I share maybe just a little something with the great Italian minds from history.

OK but missing some major items.

I bought this book thinking it was really an A to Z of the most important Italians, but it is missing some major aspects of Italian history in many subjects of science and art. An OK book for the money.

WELL WRITTEN, INTRIGUING BOOK ABOUT NEVADA HISTORY
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 1999-05-28
NEVADA TRIVIA is by far one of the best of the state trivia books. This is due to the colorful history of the state of Nevada as well as the obvious skill of the authors, including the depth of their research. I would highly encourage anyone who lives in Nevada, the many people who visit there, or anyone who is intrigued by the mystique of this famous gambling state to buy a copy of this interesting book.

The Nevada Trivia Book by Richard Moreno is another trivia book devoted to fascinating facts about Nevada. It differs from the Bouton book by offering more indepth answers to the trivia questions and includes substantially more historical information. I would highly recommend it for anyone interested in Nevada.

Question and Answer Format

I like this book. It is a list of questions and answers in Q&A format. There is an order by general subject, but nothing individually. There is no index, so if you're looking for something specific, it's hunt and peck.

Still it is a good compilation of facts about New Jersey. Some of them are the commonly known facts, but most of are tidbits you don't know about the state.

despite shortcomings, an excellent book

Like the other reviewers, I too find there are 3 main troubles...

1) outdated material. It was written over 10 years ago and some questions are no longer accurate or even relevant
2) Questions are immediately followed by answers, making it difficult to test yourself.
3) organization is nill. there are some llosely defined "catagories" but many items appear in several catagories, such as questions about the Pine Barrens. There should've been some sort of reference in the back.

That said I still give this a 4 rating as there is a lot of material here, it covers lots of ground with a lot of information on almost every coneiveable topic in NJ. Despite the shortcomings, (most of which are merely annoying, not detrimental) it is quite interesting and worth the price, which is minimal.

I bought this book to host trivia nights with friends.

There are many sections with multiple choice answers which I found very helpful.

Unfortunately I found that many of the questions are geared towards Americans, American sports questions, American geography and American general knowledge and not so much general knowledge worldwide.

Overall, I am a little disappointed with the book.

Fun for Everyone!

This book contains questions with the answers in the back of the book. No two answers are on the same page, so the person asking the questions can play along, too. My family has used this book for entertainment on long auto trips and at parties with groups of people whose ages range from 15 to 75. We have formed teams and the competition was fierce! The content appeals to all ages. The questions are arranged by category and difficulty. There are true/false and multiple choice questions. Types of games which can be played are suggested, but the reader can creat his own game depending on the circumstances.

Won't Fit in Your Pocket but an Interesting Little Book of Facts
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-25
This book has quite a few interesting facts on a wide range of subjects that you can slip into conversation at your next dinner party or to use to write some trivia questions for your next fundraiser. I've read a lot of these types of books and this one is easily in the top of that group. The only down point is that the book talks to you implying you are an American, which would be fine if you are but is a bit of an insult to the rest of us seeing as this book is published and sold in stores around the world. Editing the internationally released version would have been nice.

Presented alphabetically there are no chapters but instead like an encyclopaedia layout each topic has a heading a fair few facts and then we move onto the next topic. This means you're more likely to enjoy this book as a put down and pick up again type read rather than a cover to cover reading experience.

Some interesting facts from within this interesting little book include -
Apples contain less protein than any other fruit
Jed Clampett of the Beverly Hillbillies only had a $25 million dollar fortune (not much by today's American rich people standards).
Chocolate syrup was used for the blood in Psycho
The twelve most frequently used letters in the English language in order are E, T, A, O, I N, S, H, R, D, L and U (one to remember if you ever go on Wheel of Fortune)
Cats cannot survive on dog food as they require five times as much protein as dogs
The only difference between a fiddle and violin is the music played on it.

Hundreds of interesting facts within this very interesting little book.

This is a pocket book that fits in a jeans or a jacket pocket and lists the information by alphabetical order. There are alot of obscure and entertaining tidbits of information that you can log in your brain for future reference and use in conversation. I think kids , especially middle school or high school age will benefit much from this funny information . Things like Governor Schwarzenegger having served time in jail before makes the book interesting and the "news" a subject of discussion(he served six days in jail for going awol from the Austrian Army). He also was the first civilian to own a Humvee. It is in paperback stock with a hardcover and does not have any color photographs but only black and white and usually pretty small. The subject matter is pretty bizarre and ranges from things like The Simpsons to aviation, giraffes to Santa Claus and football to U.S. coins and currency. Most young students will find this information entertaining. There is something about our attention spans and our liking our information in small doses that this book satisfies. At under 200 pages in pretty simple text it can be read in several short sittings. Recommended for middle school up to about the tenth grade of high school. Actually most high school students would find the book entertaining as well. The book appeals most to the pop-culture aspect of trivia. A good book for the school or classroom library.

I like this book a lot. Very interesting facts. The author takes each topic into very great detail. He is clearly a fantastic researcher. But, the detail goes a little too far sometimes. I think the average reader is not looking for so much detail.

I would still recommend this book.

I found little to no new information on tennis in this book. Granted, I am a tennis fanatic, but I was hoping for some new tidbit or anecdote, neither of which I got.

A fascinating and fun book

"Tennis's Most Wanted" is a really interesting and fun to read book that unearths amazing stuff about tennis and its most endearing and eccentric characters.
For example, W.C. Fields played tennis while holding a racket and a martini. Fausto Gardini was nicknamed "Vampire" because he used to bite tennis balls. Hans Redl lost an arm in World War II, but returned and won Davis Cup matches!
The best chapters are "Teen Phenoms," "Court Artists," "Embarrassing Losses," "Family Ties," "Fanatics" and "Believe It or Not."
You'll really enjoy this neat book that covers tennis from
strange but true angles.
