I gave one of these as a gift to a sick friend and she was so thrilled. She said she will always keep looking at it 'cuz there were so many things she didn't know about cats. Also, she said it was great that it had an index so she could go back to things she had read easily.

I'm halfway through this book and I've put it down. I was so bored I couldn't read anymore. So far, the book is just chatting about cats with no useful information or interesting stories. I have apparently chosen the wrong book. Even though this book touts "curiously compelling facts" I haven't found any in the first half of it.

lol. This book was quite fun to read. =) Suzy becker is very talented at observing the funny things dogs and cats do. I think Suzy's dog may be a retriever, while I have a toy breed, but I could still see my dog's charachteristics in 75% of the book. Very funny expressions on the dog owner and the dog that go well with the text. Overall: cute, fun, funny, and worth buying!

If you want a quick laugh, if you're wondering if your dog is the only one in the world that does those "strange things", then you need to pick up this book.
Accompanied by humorous cartoons, the text is simplistic but real. Take the cartoon of the dog smiling for example: taking nearly the whole page, we see a front view of a grinning yellow dog that makes us smile in return. Then, we read the text: "She smiles... when she's just about to throw up or sometimes when she's scratching." and we guffaw. It's so true!
I found myself going through this book and saying, hey, that's exactly what my Sasha does! It's good to know that we all have "The World's Best Dog!"

Mr. Simons has written a good book. However, it is very similar to a lot of titles which are out there. I did an internet search, and I found at least two dozen listings on the subject of classic radio shows. Many come with CD's, and some great audio clips of the old shows. There is no doubt that Mel knows his material. And he is certainly old enough to have personally known a lot of the stars of the radio era of the 1930's, 40's and 50's.
However, old time radio is passe, and as more and more of its fans pass on, books of this genre will become obsolete. I look forward to reading the TV book.

Even if you've only a passing interest or familiarity with old-time radio, this book is a must-have. Full of fun quizzes, facts, and personally autographed pictures of radio's kings and queens of comedy, music, mystery and drama. Everyone from Autry to Welles is in the book; I doubt you'll find a broader range of photos between a front and back cover. "The Old-Time Radio Trivia Book" is splendidly done, and a pure delight. The engaging trivia will leave long-time hobbyists and "newbies" alike saying, "Hey--I didn't know that!!"

There are lots of fun facts in this book. Although I found it short, I thought it was a nice book for yep, you've guessed it: QUICKIES! For those who are interested in the little facts 'bout sex, and you've read "Sex: A User's Guide" by Stephen Arnott (which I highly recommend BTW), this is a great book to add on to what you've learned. There are definitely things you haven't known before.

This book is full of interesting facts and details about the "facts of life." Just when you think you've heard it all, you'll find yourself saying "I didn't know that." There were plenty of things in here I didn't want to know ever, things I didn't want anyone else to know I had read, and other things I just had to read out loud to my wife. Overall...Great trivia and great fun.

A baseball hit 400 feet has twice the destructive energy as a bullet fired from a .8 calibur pistol. That, and other strange and unusual facts can be found in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not!: Baseball Oddities & Trivia: A Journey Through the Weird, Wacky, and Absolutely True World of Baseball". Packed cover to cover with charming drawings by John Granziano, "Ripley's Believe It or Not: Baseball Oddities & Trivia: A Journey Through the Weird, Wacky, and Absolutely True World of Baseball" is over a hundred pages of interesting and intriguing facts and notes of interest. Highly recommended for baseball fans or anyone who just likes weird, bizarre information - it also should be considered as a lighter edition to any community library collection focuses on sports or baseball.

A Must Disney Trivia Nuts

If you ever wanted to know anything about terms used by the cast members at the DisneyWorld, this is the book. It contains references to many phrases used everyday in other aspects of life but recounts how they specifically relate to Disney. Would make a great gift for the Disney freak in your life, or would look good on your coffee table as well. Could use it at work or home to astound your friends with little known facts about Disney. A must book for those collectors of Disney memorabilia.

Book a how-to for
winning bucks

There must be someone out there smarter than us, who right now, is guessing who is likely to become famous, who is likely to die, and what is going to be the next big thing. And cash in on these phenomena by turning the research into books.
One of the latest such books is attempting to cash in on America's fascination with millionaires.
"So You'd Like to Win a Million: Facts, Trivia, and Hints on Game Show Success," by Elina and Leah Furman (St. Martin's Paperbacks, [amt]), is something of an S.A.T. primer for game shows. The book is a study guide of questions and answers on topics such as entertainment, art and literature, science and technology and, ooh, a real toughie, history and politics.
Here's a sample question: Which of these inventors created the escalator in 1900?
A. Johaan Valer
B. Charles Seeberger
C. Horace Short
D. Willis Carrier
If you answered B in the right time and place, you'd be richer now.
The book, not endorsed by any of the game shows mentioned, is based on the premise that you'd do better if you expand your reserve of general knowledge. Then even if you don't win any money, you'd at least walk away a little smarter, even if you blew it on an easy question.

You've Got to be Quick to Cash In

I am a trivia buff and enjoy learning new things and memorizing useless facts. I have thoroughly read many trivia books in my neverending quest for knowledge. This is a decent trivia book. Unlike many of the recent books of facts trying to cash in on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire", this book doesn't have many typos and all of the answers are correct. My family and friends have enjoyed using this book as part of trivia contests we sometimes play. Most of the questions have little to do with current pop culture and therefore the book can be used many years from now by just about anyone. However, because of the book's introductory chapters it has aged considerably since its first appearance. The section dealing with "Millionaire" is still rather valid because that show is still on the air. However, the section dealing with "Greed" is what dates the book. "Greed" went off the air about a month after this book first appeared. Of course there is also the section listing several upcoming game shows in which a million dollars or more can be made: "Survivor" is the last to be mentioned and the authors seem to have believed the show wouldn't amount to much. Great entertainment with some interesting historical material.

This little book (5" x 5") makes the best birthday gift or wedding shower gift or "he dumped me" gift for your best girlfriends. It is adorable! Moreover, there are about 15 magnets with GREAT Lois Lane sayings that are contained in a type of shadow box compartment.

The book consists of about 100 pages and contains such advice as: "Look! Up in the Air! It's a bird; it's a plane; it's your Boyfriend?! He's Late AGAIN!"

This is the Perfect FUN GIFT and is full of such wisdom as: " 10 Tips for Making Him Sweep You Off Your Feet." "Super Man vs. Clark Kent" "Time Bandits, Space Invaders and Other Forms of Courtship Kryptonite."

A DELIGHTFUL book that is SURE to be a HIT!

This is a relatively good quiz book, but the author totally skips over John 17! How can anyone disregard one of Jesus' major prayers? I was disappointed to come to this section in this book to find that there was nothing on John 17.

A Most Useful Bible Quiz Book

Review Date: 2000-08-15
We use this book to quiz our youth at our church as well as a game book. We like this book because it covers the entire Bible and follows the Bible in sequential format, that is from Genesis to Revelation. This book can be used as a resourse book as well. There is an answer key in the book for all the questions and the book provides scriptural references for all questions.
