Kellog, Post, Jell-O, Alka-Seltzer, and dozens of other brands are detailed as to how they started, how they got their name, competitors, mistakes, and successes. Amusing, humorous, and informative read

I found Dracula was a Lawyer (underline that) to be extremely entertaining humorous, and not to mention informative. This compilation of facts concerning proffessions dealing with the law and the law itself often pokes fun at not only attorneys and lawmakers, but those who make use of them, i.e. moronic lawsuits and things of this nature. Despite the title, the book does not take a harsh prejudice against attorneys, and many of the facts actually glorify the profession rather than painting them as vampires. In fact, I didnt understand the use of Dracula in the title, because technically he was a lawyer, but only in the sense that any other absolute ruler would be in that they are in essence the lawyer, judge, jury and executioner. I thought this was a rather weak basis to title the book, especially when the book does not make a point to paint attorneys with the image of vampires, but rather takes an unbiased motive to simply display facts. But this not withstanding, the book was, as I said, very entertaining and I very highly recommend it to anyone interested in or dealing with the law, or someone looking for a pretty quick amusing read.

I Thought that this book was very well done. Brief and to the point would be a good way to discribe it and full of all the facts one would want to know.

This great collection of weird stuff is for both youngsters and big kids (too!) who are fans of the "Believe or Not" kind of stuff that will often surprise you.

The author began this writing project after hearing about a smalltown museum that has two fleas dressed up like a bride and groom! (She found it, too!) She goes on to say that her favorite discoveries are the historical items: some Civil War soldiers were not men!; the post office once used camels for delivery! Then there's the man with the collection of 1,060 different air-sickness bags!

Kids will love, of course, reading about the longest worm in the world.

Chapters are organized by Animals, People, Places, Lifestyles.

I bought this book not having read any others by the author. But had heard him on the CBC show BASIC BLACK. The stories in the book are amazing feats of real fraud. Fantastic characters, excellent research. I couldn't put it down. Better than fiction!

this is quite an interesting book, as i am fascinated with death. perhaps knowing how one leaves the world makes death more familiar, especially in the case of suicide. read it, books like this are quaint and dainty, as the brits say.

A catalog of interesting facts, and anomalies
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-02-23
This interesting book is an encyclopedia of interesting and curious things that the ancients knew, or at least might have known. There are entries (among many) on the Library of Alexandria, the rust-resistant Delhi pillar, Petra, Great Zimbabwe, and the Greek explorer Pytheos.

Did you know that aluminum beads were discovered in a third-century Chinese tomb, some 1700 years before its "discovery" in the West? Did you know that the ancient Egyptians might have had the secret of making a battery? You would have had you read this book!

This book is well written, and easy to understand. The articles are short and to the point, but lacking in individual bibliographies (a minor complaint). This is an interesting book, and you will enjoy spending a few hours with it.
