I got my first Ripley's Believe It or Not! as a Birthday present when I was about 8 0r 10 years old .
It was a hard cover, published in 1930 and had 172 pages. It had a picture of "The Marching Chinese" with a caption "If all the Chinese in the world were to march 4 abreast, past a given point, they would never finish passing though they marched forever and forever.Believe It or Not!,I still have that book;and I just received this "The Remarkable...Revealed",for my 73rd Birthday.Over the years,I have continued to be entertained by Ripley books and have dozens of them.
This 2007 edition is excellent in every way. and the people who continue to find the things in this book are to be congratulated. The construction, paper, printing, color rendition, layout, presentation, price and everything meet the highest of standards. The illustrations have advanced magnificently since the early days of simple B&W line sketches. The only fault one might bring up is that many items have no illustrations.I have written several reviews on other Ripley publications;so I won't repeat everything here.
I still find it a shame that my Daily Paper does not carry the daily "Believe It or Not !"cartoon.Thank goodness it is stll available on the "Net".
I would like to make a suggestion to the people who put this book together. The web site for the daily cartoon should be shown in the book ;and when an item has no illustration,a Website for more info would be a tremendous improvement. A good example would be "Guido's Handicraft" on page 47. I have seen them and they are unbelievable!

This is a great coffee table book or gift for someone that is fascinated with the oddities of life. It is a page turner, that is for sure. I got it for a great price and in this day of internet, it is nice sometimes to just sit down with a book and read it. From 8 to 80, anyone can enjoy this.

Review Date: 2005-09-09
Empire Publishing presents "The Roy Rogers Book", reference trivia scrapbook of Roy Rogers (birth name: Leonard Franklin Slye)...birth date November 5, 1911 in Cincinnati Ohio...left us July 6, 1998 in Apple Valley, California...written by Western film historian David Rothel whose accounts of thrilling adventures of B-Western heroes during the Saturday matinees of yesteryear takes us back to our childhood, family and friends...this is a wish come true, reliving those wonderful years from the past through the pen of David Rothel.

Roy was a top box office draw for Republic Pictures...when you went to see him on the big screen, you got exactly what the marquee said...plenty of thrills, action and hard riding with a song or two thrown in for good measure...Roy was a member of several music groups named the Hollywood Hillbillies, Rocky Mountaineers, Texas Outlaws, and his own group, the International Cowboys...then came 1934 he formed a group with Bob Nolan and Tim Spencer called the 'Sons of the Pioneers'...he was known as Leonard Slye, then Dick Weston, and finally Roy Rogers...in 1937 Roy went solo and made his first starring film in "Under Western Stars" (1938), featuring Smiley Burnette (Gene Autry's old sidekick), Earle Dwire, Jack Rockwell, Earle Hodgins, Jack Ingram and of course Trigger the smartest horse in the movies...Roy appeared in almost 100 films...then came television with "The Roy Rogers Show"(1951) ran on CBS television network from October 1951 through September 1964.

Elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980 as a member of the "Sons of the Pioneers" and elected again in 1988 as Roy Rogers "King of the Cowboys"...Roy got his horse "Trigger" in 1938 and rode him in every one of his films and TV shows after that... "Trigger" died in 1965 aged thirty-three...Roy's dog's name was "Bullet" and appeared in almost as many of his films as "Trigger" did...Roy's theme song, "Happy Trails", was written by Queen of the West and his wife Dale Evans...inducted (with his wife Dale Evans) into the "Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum" in 1976...inducted as a member of the "Sons of the Pioneers into the "Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum" in 1995 just three years before his death.

Great job by David Rothel (one of my favorite authors) and Empire Publishing, everything you wanted to know about "The King of the Cowboys"...little-know facts about a well-know cowboy...rare fan magazine reprints of articles...this is the first publication of the credits for Roy's TV series (all 100 episodes)...Don't miss this one...now appearing on Amazon and Empire Publishing ...get your copy today. For example, who won the oscars, science and social studies facts such as most destructive hurricanes, etc.

We just love "Stella's" poetry - another amazing book by our favorite writer for children, Linda Ashman!
Kids and parents alike will laugh at Stella's wit, as she poetically and cleverly comments about her life from a dog's-eye view! Perfectly captures the enchanting experience of having a family dog. Charming illustrations, too!

This book really had my friends and me rolling on the floor with laughter! What a great collection of memories of this stupid decade-- the people, the fads, the TV shows and music. It's great for parties or just to have lying on your coffee table-- but watch out, your friends will try to steal it (unless they're really groovy). Highly recommended!!!

A clever, witty retrospective

This is a wonderful little retrospective, with some very creative and funny observations. If you are anywhere between 25 and 45, the memories will come flooding back (and if you're like me, some embarrassment, too). It is also peppered with some great cartoon illustrations, a seventies quiz ("The 70's SATs") and a music anthology. Well worth it!
