It is a text book, not a trader's manual. On the upside it provides excellent coverage of charts, trends, reversal patterns, continuation patterns and moving averages. It's chapter on Candlesticks is a small gem of information. The coverage of indicators was skimpy, but this gap can be filled with good internet sources.
On the downside, it was often unclear as to whether his writing applied to individual stocks or to stock markets only. The chapter on point and figure was incomprehensible. Money management was skimpy - again go to the Net.

The Good: May be worth something for a beginner who wants to know what Technical Analysis is about.
The Bad: No in depth view of anything.
My Advice: Go to the library before buying. In one or two hours you would have read all (if anything) that is worth in this self called "Bible". No need to buy.

After reading a number of books on the subject, the presentation of information in this book appears to be the most comprehensive and well explained. This is the one technical analysis 'encyclopedia' to refer to. (One negative comment - I'll have to agree with another reviewer that the creaky binding does not suit the high quality of the book's contents.)

With both Burton Malkiel's A Random Walk Down Wall Street: The Time-Tested Strategy for Successful Investing, Ninth Edition and John J. Murphy's Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets: A Comprehensive Guide to Trading Methods and Applications (New York Institute of Finance), I figure I've got a good balance in my reading 'portfolio'. These are two excellent books from each side of the investing coin.

I would higly recommend any novice or not so very experienced trader to read this book, and reread it once you have a some experience. She has explained various day and swing trading setups very thouroughly and does it without making it very complicated.

This $10 book has made me double my money in a couple months in OTCBB/Pinksheet stocks. This explains big board stocks but is everything the same as penny stocks. Buy this book if you want to start trading. The author gives instructions in spoken word not scientific as some books do. This is as if someone was talking to you not a college lecture you can't just jump into.

As with that, I've doubled my money and expect to be a millionaire from HARD work, remember that. My recommendation, it's a buy!

Please read this book BEFORE you start day trading. There are so many pitfalls to this profession that you must be armed with useful tools before you start doing it. It is much to easy to lose everything gradually or rapidly for the beginner. Don't follow her recommendations at your own peril.

I think this book in absolutely a must for anyone who is interested in finding out how to day trade, has the intellectual capacity to feel they can succeed, but has really no clue how the stock market works!! Everything you've always wanted to know about day trading 'but were afraid to ask'. Toni starts from square one and explains everything from bid price, offers, indexes and the history of the stock market. If you are beyond this level, then you will likely feel it is too basic, 'chatty' or 'inspirational' in the first half of her book. Personally, it has proven to be an invaluable resource. Toni's writing style is clear and she gives great analogies and speaks in layman's terms while dissecting and discussing the complexities of trading. It goes from big picture to hands-on detailed examples and strategies. Thanks Toni!

I stayed up way past my bedtime for three nights because I couldn't put this book down. The fact that Bart Corbin could murder Dolly Hearn in 1990, nonchalantly go on with his life and then murder his wife Jennifer 14 years later is absolutely chilling. Ann Rule portrays the very human side of both victims: despite Bart's scary behavior, Dolly tried to ease away from him gently, and Jenn was so unhappy in her marriage that she turned to an Internet relationship for solace which proved to be devastating. You feel a keen sense of loss even if you didn't know either of these vibrant, warm-hearted women. Bart Corbin is evil personified and is right where he belongs, even if it came 16 years too late.

So many twists & turns, you couldn't make it up!

This tale of two murders is truly amazing. I didn't know anything about this case before I picked this book up, and there were a couple of plot developments that almost took my breath away. But while the saga is spellbinding, the storytelling is just so-so. Every aspect of the lives of those involved are explained in great detail. Much of the investigative process is examined closely, too. Then, it seems, once Dr. Bart is put in jail, boom-boom-boom, time is telescoped, everything happens in a matter of pages, and The End. As workmanlike as Ann Rule's work is here, she deserves applause for the careful way she depicts Dolly and Jenn. It would have been easy to sensationalize certain aspects of both women's lives, but Ms. Rule instead chooses respect and compassion.

yet another competent effort by Ann Rule...

I have read most of Ann Rule's true crime books, and she has indeed authored a great many books. 'Too Late to Say Goodbye' is one of her latest efforts and, I'm glad to say, one of her better efforts too. It is about a dentist who murders both his girlfriend and, fifteen years later, his wife in a similar fashion and is, thankfully, ultimately brought to justice. Ann Rule obviously prepared well since 'Too Late...' is very detailed. And the book is deceptively well structured (the accounts of both murders are largely interwoven throughout most of the book to highlight the similarities).

The book doesn't earn five stars because the nature of the crimes in 'Too Late...' are not quite as convoluted or are heinous compared to what is found in other Ann Rule books. And I was disappointed not to be entertained with any sort of courtroom drama. On the plus side, I found this book to be less 'gushy' in flowery descriptions of the victims, or their kids, or anything which Ann Rule can blather on about in hopes of making the crimes sound even more heinous than they are. Is murdering a beautiful woman with adorable children any more tragic than killing an average woman with brats??? It's a bit irrelevant.

Bottom line: a entertaining slice of true crime drama. Recommended.

Ann Rule knows her subject well and does not disappoint!

In this true crime story of murder and betrayal, the author takes the reader into an exploration of two murders, seamlessly and empathically weaving the stories of the tragic deaths of two young women. Though the deaths were fourteen years apart and in different jurisdictions, the two victims would have one thing in common. They had each fallen in love with the same man, Bart Corbin.

The first woman to die was Dolly Hearn, a beautiful, vivacious, dental student, who met Bart Corbin in dental school, where he, too, was a student. They eventually became a couple but the relationship was quite rocky. Then Dolly met an untimely death by virtue of a gunshot wound to the head, which the police classified as a suicide, despite her parents' belief that she had been murdered.

The second woman to die was Jennifer Corbin, Bart's wife. Bart Corbin, now a dentist, though not particularly successful in his practice of dentistry, was still able to live the American dream. He had a lovely wife, two wonderful children, and a nice home in a great neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia. There were cracks in that facade, however, and his wife finally decided that she was going to leave Bart, as he was not the man that she had thought he was. Then she, too, met her maker through a gunshot wound to the head. This time, however, the police did not rush to judgment to classify this death as a suicide.

A careful and thorough investigation, fueled by an unexpected lead, led to the police to connect the dots between the deaths of these two young women, resulting in the re-opening of the investigation into Dolly Hearn's death. What the police were to discover and what lead to the arrest of Bart Corbin in connection with these two tragic deaths makes for riveting true crime drama.

It comes almost as a surprise that so crucial writing may still be added to the rich catalogue of trading literature. I guess it has something to do with the passion and openess with which the author conveys his view on trading. The book contains a wealth of interesting information from the real world of trading, but what seems most important - it is effective in helping a trader acquire a winning mindset. 6 stars Mr. Carter!

I bought this book because of the testimonial by Mark Douglas on the back cover. As I've stated in reviews for other trading books, again, I thought I knew what I was doing with regard to my investment acumen. I did not. I incurred large losses. I was stubborn due to my advanced education with a Ph.D. in Psychology. After experiencing the pain of losing, I elicited the help from books by Mark Douglas, Alexander Elder, Paula Webb, John Hill, and now John Carter ~ all to hone my system.

As an expert in one specialized field ~ trust me when I tell you when you step into the game of trading ~ all your previous expertise goes out the window. Study these trading experts and you will succeed. And, do it before you lose a large amount of income like I did.

The CD set contains 6 CD's with a downloadable PDF file (75 pages) that replaces the workbook. The workbook is 200+ pages but is MUCH more broken down if you need that.

The program is interactive, pausing now and then for you to read from the printout. However, the CDs are good to play in the background or in the car for refreshing or letting it sink in.

The PDF file needs Adobe Reader (free online) to print. I had trouble doing this. I realized that after downloading Adobe Reader I had to go into my start-up menu and search for Adobe, right click it and create a shortcut for the desktop. Put in the cd, open Adobe Reader and go to File, select "open", and from the drop-down box at the top select the Drive the says "family First". The PDF file will appear and you can print it out.

I have the book and find the CDs much easier to follow and find time for. I synced it to my Ipod and can knit/wash dishes etc while I listen. My kids can play and be loud without disrupting my "reading".

This book is on my mind because I recommended it yesterday while talking with a single mother. She clearly loved her kids but was at her wit's end with them not listening, not helping out at home and constantly arguing with her and each other. She said she had "tried everything" (which she later acknowledged she hadn't once she saw how she eventually gave in because the disciplinary tactics she used "weren't working"). This book immediately came to mind as one that is easy to read and will give her guidance on setting boundaries, sticking with them, being consistent and doing "what it takes" to get her family back on track.

This book offers an assessment for parents to identify their parenting style and their child's personality style and provides strategies to best adapt their parenting accordingly. Make sure to measure each of your children separately - amazing how kids in the same family can be so different!

This book is especially recommended for those who are (or quickly heading toward) parenting teens. Even if you feel like you've lost control of your teenage kids, this book's message that it's never too late to turn things around is reassuring and empowering. Some parents might need additional professional help but this book provides a solid start for all.

At the beginning I thougt I'd read all this before and that it was all the same.
But soon after reading some more I learned some new things, f.exmpl. to use the fibonacci retracement properly, this is mandatory because every serious trader watches these levels and trade thereafter.

Marcel also goes through exit strategies , something very few other authors do.
He uses his own hard earned wisdom to give great advices.

One of the most important things was the money management chapter, if a trader misses out on this one the it doesn't matter how good a technician he or she may be.

One of the best trading books I've read, just wish I'd read this one earlier.

Good Luck !

This is an excellent book about trading, especially for the beginner. However, the beginner is not likely to recognize why this book is excellent versus the many books written about trading by non-traders. I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to teach themselves about the markets. If you already are a successful trader, the book may not be that helpful. If I were to teach a course in trading, I would consider using this book as one of the textbooks for the class, in part because there are very few comprehensive good books about trading. I have read the negative reviews posted on Amazon, and I don't think they are, for the most part, informed or fair. I hope the author comes out with a second edition, in part because while I think the content is excellent, the writing could be improved upon. But I'd rather have a substantively excellent book, than one of the many trading books well-written by a non-trader that is unhelpful or even misleading on the substance. "High Probability Trading" is worth the read.

like I did for about 3 years. Now I that I finally picked it up I am almost a third of the way through and already has Marcel Link's clear, honest, to the point language and approach to day trading dotted my i's and crossed my t's several times over. Yes, I did read books about small cap value investing, how to read charts and how to make money using all kinds of fancy systems before this one and I recommend you do the same. But don't stop there - go ahead and finish your training with this excellent work. Marcel's straightforward message is so simple yet so deep that I hope it will, just like it is already doing for me, banish all your fears about making mistakes and still coming out a winner. I write this on purpose because if you are not making money in the market you probably have a fear of winning and/or are making too many mistakes. Right after I started reading this book I had my first winning streak in years only to face an age old stumbling block just a week later; this time, thanks to Marcel's warning, I could honestly say to myself "It's OK, keep going" and I actually was able to prevent a big loss because the market had turned against me. Thanks to Marcel's "handholding" I had the courage to read all the charts before rushing into a decision that could have cost me. This book is for everybody who is missing out on grasping the "whole" of trading. After this, I plan to read more technical books just to stay sharp in that area, but for the time being I am enjoying every page in this volume. Highy recommended.

I've bought alot of trading books, usually at 50 bucks a pop, and some of them really leave you groaning about. I rationalize that even one good idea, even it just reinforces something I already know or reminds of something I forgot or ignored then it's better that losing 50 bucks to the market. It's kind of like trading itself, you take some losses but the winners make up for it.

This was a great book. One of the best sections I've seen on stops and exits. It goes more into the proper mentality than cookbook strategies, but it goes deep into areas alot of other books overlook or just don't develop beyond a few cliche's. If you're past the introduction level and already own all the indicator catalogs then this is a great pick. Not too deep into the tools, but good in that area too. Mentality and strategy development without becoming a psychology book. Excellent. The 1 star guys missed the point.

This book probably got me first interested in historical fiction. Wildly entertaining at the same time vastly informative regarding the early days of Hong Kong and the early era of global trade. Many of the events portrayed feel like they resonate into the present. Even reading it in the days of my infancy as a reader, its length did not at all get in the way of its being a highly compelling read. Actually, this work may have been among the first to have brought me to appreciate the ultimate payoff in investing in the reading of good book. Certainly got me to read more and read more.

"Tai Pan" is, of course, one of the books in James Clavell's "asian sagas" and in my opinion it ties with "Shogun" (chronologically the earlier of the two) as the best. The later books forego some of the adventure and get too involved for my taste...
Its about the opening of China to world trade in general, and the development of Hong Kong in particular. The main character is Dirk Struan, a Scotsman, adventurer, and self-made man of his time.
There's lots of good reviews about the plot already posted here, so I won't review that other than to say it moves VERY well... I will offer a few thoughts by way of a review:
I haven't researched it, but wonder if Struan is based on a real life character in the way that John Blackthorne (the Angin-san of "Shogun") was based on a real Englishman named William Adams (look him up on Wikipedia; fascinating life). I would not be surprised if there is a historical basis for Dirk Struan.

Some of the opulence described in "Tai Pan" is a bit fantastical, but thats ok - it does not harm the book. Clavell also does a great job of simplifying a complicated subject, namely the world trade of the era, the opium-silver-tea trade, and really hits on the 'clash of cultures' of Asia vs the expanding Western world.

I mentioned opulence above. I've noticed that in both "Shogun" and "Tai Pan" theres a definite pre-occupation with the subject of cleanliness and food. Interestingly, Clavell as a kid or young man was a prisoner of the Japanese in WW2. He was held in the notorious Changi Prison where he experienced the brutality, neglect, and culture clash between Europeans in Asia and the militarism and rascism of the latter years of the Japanese Empire. These POWs - military or civilian internees - all experienced hunger, filth, neglect, random violence, lack of medicine, etc etc in a horrible environment... Seems to me this is the source of Clavell's recurring descriptions of food and cleanliness. I think this definitely shows in his earlier "asian saga" books. So I can't help wondering if in his books, CLavell was dreaming of an Asia adventure as he wished he could have experienced it, as opposed to the ordeal he himself went through in prison... Just an idea.

Great book; I highly recommend it.

Tai-Pan is a very good book and definitely worth reading especially if you are interested in China and Hong Kong. It is the story about the development of Hong Kong by the British and the three rival trading companies that compete against each other. It also has a lot of historical facts throughout which I felt enhanced the story tremendously. This is definitely a great and unique story and very well researched by the author. I thought the characters in this book were believable and very strong.

This book is not one that I would describe as an easy read. Like Shogun, it requires your full attention or else you will be lost. It is somewhat of a committment to read not only because of its length but also because of the dialogue. It's kind of slow reading. I do not think everyone will enjoy this book. I think men will definitely like it more than women. There are quite a few characters and it is important to remember who is who.

The ending of this book was definitely a surprise to me. I was certainly not expecting it to end like it did.

I will admit that this book was not nearly as good as Shogun. I loved Shogun, for it is one of my favorite books of all time. So if you are expecting that kind novel out of Tai-Pan I think you might be disappointed. However, this book was really entertaining and I am glad that I read it!

Dirk Struan is a remarkable character, I believe the stongest male character to become part of a book. If you like stories blended with history, culture and a strong protagonist, you'll ove it. James Clavell alongside Frederick Forsyth and Noah Gordon are the top writers for this type of reading.

Shogun was kind of an odd book for me because even though I loved it, really loved, I didn't really enjoy reading it. The same thing happened with "Tai-Pan."

This is a highly political and informative novel about the opium-tea-silver trade and the beginnings of British Hong Kong but it's more tedious somehow because there is so much conversation compared to the action parts of the book and the bitter rivalries between the traders can be hard to understand.

In spite of all this something about this book left me a little awed. Most likely it was May-may, the Tai-Pan's (a kind of king/leader/president of company) Chinese mistress who with her exuberant spirit and hilarious English made parts of this book a joy. Maybe it was the education I got on how hard a group of drug smugglers really fought to hold on to a worthless piece of rock which would one day be one of the world's greatest harbors. Maybe it was the completeness of the ending. Maybe it's magic. Who knows. But this is a great book even if I didn't really like it.

Anyway you put it this book is "fantastical good" (as May-may) would say but it lacks the emotion of "Shogun" and was at times a bit like wading through sand. In spite of all this I feel compelled to give it a five star rating. Read it and you'll find out why.

A very good book covers lots of details of candlestick chart, I would say.
However, all this book full of Japanese sayings,Japanese proverbs like"one seeing is better than a hundred hearings","the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.",etc. As a Chinese,I have to say all of these sayings original came from China thousands of years ago. Japanese don't even have their language in written way, before Chinese Tang dynasty. Japan and Korea were adherent countries of China at Tang dynasty, thousands of years ago. They learned from China since that time, and they are still using Chinese characters in their written language somehow. All your showing-off of your Japanese idioms only show the author's ignorance of oritental culture, hey, Nison, don't even say you lived in Japan before any more.
Today, the whole oriental countries share China's history and culture, you may need to correct them as oriental people's proverbs rather than Japanese sayings, BECAUSE it's not true and it's showing the author's ignorance.

Well I bought this book about 10 years ago, it got me started in trading stocks, since then I have bought about 15 more books and passed on to friends and family ...if you could own just one book on the market ...this would be my pick as it does explain and then gives a small quiz at the end of the chapter...you can get out of this book what you put into it...when looking for help I usually buy a book on the subject ...but also look for someone sucessfull in what he writes about...Stan Weinstein is a winner ...this book is for the beginner or seasoned trader ...while I do admit there are many methods of trading this one is a must for your lirary...as I own many ...I still try to reread this one every year and do learn something I missed before...yes I still trade the markets and ...yes do make money...thanks Stan for a book that all can understand and enjoy

After this book kept popping up on Amazon while I was searching for more helpful books on trading stocks, I finally just bought it. I would put this book among the top ten I have read (I have read about 70 stock trading books).
The author perfectly describes the four distinct stages in the life of a hot stock.
Stage 1-the price base forms.
Stage 2-the break out upwards in price.
Stage 3-the top base.
Stage 4- the failed break out, then the fall through the 50 day moving average and price collapse.
If you are a student of William O'Neal or IBD then most of this book will be familiar. I really like his focus on moving averages and how to use them for determining whether to go long or short. He also explains the importance of setting stop losses and sticking to them. Focus on the top sectors for buys. This author will teach you how to make money in both bull and bear markets, going short is just as important as going long. With out this skill you will lose 50% of you stock trading profit potential. After reading this book I made $1500 in a few hours using the principles in this book. This is a must have if you are a serious stock trader.

Technical Analysis Simplified
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-15
Weinstein's book is an easy read. His simplified technical analysis or chart reading system for buying and selling stocks is easy to understand and seems very workable. His general concepts are very similar to William O'Neils (How To Make Money In Stocks), except that he doesn't use fundamental data in his buy or sell decisions.

Overall, I really like Weinstein's down-to-earth writing style. But, some of the charts were small so the ink made the lines appear kind of thick which made it lose some important details. Weinstein tells us volume was important in a breakout, but never really mentioned specifically the source of the volume. In the back of my mind, I had to fill in the source of the volume, which I learned from William O'Neil (How To Make Money In Stocks) that it came from professional or institutional buyers such as pension and mutual funds.

Weinstein presents a simple strategy
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-08-31
Weinstein presents a simple strategy that I think is worth reading. His strategy involves price action using simple long-term moving average technical analysis with some short term ABC-like patterns (and other technical patterns). His strategy involves buying at favorable risk:reward setups that are subject to manipulation in this market since other participants know how to shake people out of positions and scare them away. However, this strategy can still work with with the additional technique of buying back once the strategy rules are revived. In other words, expect to be shaken out and then buy higher again. If the stock is set to go higher, it will continue the path of least resistance and eventually get in the sweet spot far away from the stop loss point.
The part that was especially notable was learning that the media knows news and emotion, but the price action speaks truth where it counts.

Personal coach Cheryl Richardson outlines her 7-step program to create the life you want. Cheryl offers practical advice centered on being good to yourself. She explains the common obstacles to living your ideal life and how to overcome them. This is a great self-coaching book if you aren't able to work with a personal coach. She offers several coaching reminders to help you live your desired life. Another bonus of the book is the different resources offered at the end of each chapter. This helps the reader connect with a resource that might resonate with them. This book is a very good, basic approach to working toward getting the life you want.

I thought the suggestions were very good. However, I did not like how one is suppose to find someone else and do the program with them along the way. That has never worked for me.

There were good suggestions about getting rid of the clutter in your life and about spirituality.

I had never heard of Ms. Richardson until a friend recommended this book. I bought it, began reading and immediately connected with her personal story and approach. She is reader friendly and offers seemingly endless lists and exercises to help us reduce stress, simplify and create balance.
Some of Ms. Richardson's tips and suggestions resoundingly resonate a "Martha Stewart" style, which is at times cumbersome and a bit over-the-top with to-dos.
I like referring to this book, either when I'm searching for another book or URL (she lists many resources at chapter ends, very useful!) or when I'm looking to create new ideas for my women's support group.

I can't say enough good things about the authors on Hay House and Hay House Radio. While this book is not a Hay House title (at least not the edition I'm reading), it certainly is one of the best self-help books I've read.

Cheryl is very action-oriented and quite generous when it comes to sharing her tactical secrets for success. Read this book if you're absolutely willing to do the work required to achieve your goals. This is not for the woo woo reader who is passively waiting for the Universe to deliver.

Compliments to Cheryl as well for the advice she gave me when I called into her radio program. She's a big champion of the idea that when you marry intention with action, miracles occur. I'm experiencing the results of putting her strategies into action as we speak. And am looking forward to achieving more happiness and success as more miracles unfold.

Think twice before hiring a career coach. Read this book first. The tone is positive and Cheryl is genuinely supportive.
