Stations Books

I am writing a technical paper of energy storage. This is by far the best technical text book I have even owned. I have had the opportunity to read many books and this rates first on my list. Note: This is very technical but very thorough.

I am an ESL teacher who bought this series to help me teach science to English Language Learners. The series is written for native speakers, not ELLs, but the student pages are uncluttered, and the language is not complex. Each text includes a variety of experiments and activities to teach key science concepts.

This two volume set is the published proceedings of the conference named in the book's title. Over 200 papers were presented in 18 different technical areas. The conference was multidisciplinary with many international participants; despite the title, you can find papers dealing with lunar science, space law, and other topics. The major technical areas of the papers, organized into sections of the book are:
1) Planetary surface structures on the Moon and Mars;
2) Space resources and in-situ materials utilization;
3) Space energy;
4) Space mining and excavation;
5) Space automation and robotics;
6) Life support systems;
7) Lunar-based astronomy, and;
8) Space Education

The importance of the book lies in its value as a "snapshot" of what a broad segment of the space community was thinking about in 1972. The book is excellent for providing us with an overview of important topics and challenges that must be considered for future space development. Indeed, virtually all of the topics continue to garner significant attention and work across the space community, e.g., within NASA, other government space agencies, academia and industry. It is excellent for providing context for practical discussion of space colonization. I frequently refer to it in my own work at NASA

This report consists of a series of four individual U.S. Geological Survey circulars that include stations in the Eastern, Midwestern, West-Central, & Western U.S. This series describes the hydrologic & chemical characteristics of each of the 58 stations that have been included in the network. Trends in discharge, pH, & major dissolved ions also are examined. Provides information to assist scientists in the interpretation of these unique data sets. Includes 33 figures, 65 tables, & a chart of conversion factors & abbreviations.

Should be on the NY Times best seller list. An exciting manuscript that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Mr. Stephenson is a brilliant storyteller, it is amazing he has gone this long unnoticed by the mainstream media.

As an early childhood professional, this is one of my favorite activity resources. We hear so much about the importance of environmental print in building early literacy skills, and this book shows how to incorporate these types of experiences in meaningful ways into the daily life of the classroom. The book is laid out the way teachers think and plan, with chapters divided into the various learning centers of a typical early childhood classroom. There is also a very useful "Theme Connections" index that ties the various activities to popular pre-k and kindergarten theme units, making lesson planning a breeze.

The over 100 activity ideas included are simple, inexpensive, and wonderfully unique. The literacy learning objectives listed for each activity are a real help when trying to match specific activities to the different developmental levels and needs of the children in the group. And because these activities use everyday print items and recyclables that are so readily available, I have found it simple to adapt many of the activities to use with my own child at home.

What a gem! I recommend this resource for anyone who wants to help children see themselves as readers.
