I teach pre-school and I use this book on a daily basis. It is packed full of activities to do with young children. It has a complete lesson plan for each week of the year. I love the calendar format and the circle time time ctivities, in particular. Also recommended: The Busy classroom and I am, I can( a pre-school curriculum). This book is worth much more than the price!!!

Edgar Font's second adventure (The Fakersville Power Station) is a wonderful book for summer, fall, winter and spring. I purchased it for my daughter just before school started and she has already turned in a book report on it (B+ Yeah!) and now she can't wait for number 3. I highly recommend this and the first Edgar Font book to all mothers, teachers and kids. Especially with Halloween and Christmas coming up.

Combine Doyle's unparalleled storytelling with a little guidance from the spirit world and the result is this ingenious literary concoction second in sequence only. In the forward readers are greeted with a letter from the author, which explains the origin of the story and includes a special note of thanks to his ghostly housemate, thus setting the stage for a magical reading experience.
Audrey and Garrett Font had been certain this would be the most boring summer ever--but that was before their week long Lighthouse adventure. Now, they were just as excited as dear ol' grandpa to explore the beautiful, colonial-style house tucked into the base of a towering waterfall. Following Great Grandpa, Leo Font's drawings, the trio make their way into the vast forests of Northern California in search of Fakersville. But after sixty years, Grandpa's memories of this picturesque area seem to be the only thing left of this once vibrant mining town. How could they find the house grandpa was so anxious to explore if they couldn't even find the town?
The first, of the new characters to be introduced is the cantankerous, president of the Inventor's Club, Mr. Howard August. Listening to his stories the Font's learn a great deal about the history of Fakersville, from thriving quartz mining area to a deserted ghost town of sorts, where curiosity seekers simply disappear.
Following a series of clues and solving puzzles, with the assistance of a new friend, the Font's begin to uncover the towns long buried secrets. But is it too late? Can they rescue their beloved grandpa and prevent the Mayor from writing another chapter in the mysterious story of Fakersville.
There's a lot going on in this story, much of which has been skillfully layered, so that educational and moral lessons are brilliantly disguised as entertainment. Among the themes beautifully woven into this work are the dangers of scientific irresponsibility, unthinking conformity and the power of choice. Adding depth and realism to the adventure are a myriad of unique drawings throughout the story. The novel is populated by a cast of colorful characters that are complex, three dimensional and well developed. There's an almost tangible innocence in Doyle's writing that allows him to reach across the cynicism that comes with age and transport young and old alike into the wonderful, whimsical world of Edgar Font...if only for a few hours.
At the end of the book there's a puzzle waiting to be decoded, along with an intriguing picture said to be the third destination on Grandpa Font's list of possible haunts. I can't wait!
Happy Reading!

My mom got this book, and I saw her reading it, and wanted to check it out. It has some cool ideas. I liked the Dig Up the Past. My mom got a bunch of family pictures out, and then we sat around listiening to some really funny stories from the past. It really made us all laugh.
I think this is a good book to give families ideas, or maybe help remind them of ideas they have forgotten about.

The Kindergarten teachers at our school had selected Mother Goose as our Author of the Year for this school year. When I found this book, we all immediately adopted it as an integral part of our weekly homework packets. We are currently working to translate the materials into Spanish to make it accessible to our Spanish Speaking families as well. The activities are right in line with the goals of our Language Arts curriculum too. Thank you for putting together such a great book!
This is a fantastic, easy-to-implement program!

Looking for an arts and crafts book that's easy to do for young children? Are you crafts-challenged like me? Is it impossible to find chenille pipe-cleaners and other craft goodies where you live? Then this book is for you! My 6 year old adores the little works of art she can do with her hand prints. She gets practice using sizers, placing designs in an order that makes sense, and has a great time decorating the construction paper that she's cut out and pasted.
The book is designed for teachers. They routinely use templates to cut out designs that the students then put together to make clever "artwork'. I can see why. It's really easy and fun.
This book isn't deep. Your child will not be creating massively creative works of art. But is you need something fun and easy that a 4 to 7 year old can do practically by themselves, you've just found it.

Anthony Flores has created a delightful collection of craft activities for young children. The book is arranged so that each month there is a variety of creative designs using the child's handprints. I would encourage anyone who works with children between the ages of 2-10 to purchase this book. It is a wonderful resource to add to your collection, all the activities are cute and easy to recreate. The materials for each design are cheap and easy to obtain and the parents of the children will be delighted to receive the completed artwork using their own child's handprints! So purchase this book today and enjoy!

It is full of great ideas for lesson plans and for teaching your child the 5 senses. The illustrations and directions are easy to follow and make learning about the senses fun.
