I have reviewed this story and find it compelling, entertaining and exceptionally well done. It is targetted for 7 - adult. When you see adult you always wonder, but wonder no more, I am thirty eight and I absolutely loved all the voices and sound FX.

2/4/02 I rate it 5 because I'd never heard of those weather teminologies before... usatoday,com in its weather report(dated 6/13/00)regarding "white squalls" blamed for many sinkings to schooners...gives note of a stenwheeler tour boat which was overturned on 7/7/84 in Alabama by a "microburst" and that author, T Theodore Fujita ,examined the accident in detail in his book(ISBN 9996689220)..the microburst is mentioned due to a pondering by USA Today, on whether the schooner sinkings:a.the Albatross" in the Caribbean Sea in 1960 or b. The Pride of Baltimore ,about 240 miles north of Puerto Rico in 1986 could have been caused by a "microburst" vs a "squall".

There are two very important elements which come together in this excellent book: intelligent, understandable text and excellent illustrations. An added bonus is that Dr. Parkinson is noted for her thorough, well-reserched approach to her writings. She also has a unique ability to summarize this infomation in straight-forward, organized text. I highly recommend this book to those interested in remote sensing, or looking for an introductory text for their students. Also, see another wonderful publication edited by Dr. Parkinson, "Atlas of Satellite Observations Related to Global Change'.

Leonel Rugama is a legendary poet among the prolific lineage of Nicaraguan poets (there are probably more published poets per capita in Nicaragua than any other country in the world)., this bi-lingual book is comprised of his complete writings, 139 pages of mostly poetry, as well as memories of Rugama by his mother and his comrade-in-arms Omar Cabezas. The life and writings of Leonel Rugama do indeed conjure such words as "legendary", "mythical", and "mystery". He was killed on January 15, 1970 at the age of not quite 21 while fighting Somoza's national guard with three comrades. He had written his own epitaph, a poem entitled "Epitaph", (two poems entitled "Epitaph", in fact; one is dated 1969, the other is dated november/december 1969). The poet is also the subject of poetry; he his portrayed in Ernesto Cardenal's "Oraculo sobre Managua". This book is the work of one of the important poets of the Sandinista generation in Nicaragua (a country that, as I said, produces generation after generation of poets). The poems are peopled by the poorest of the poor in Nicaragua. "Como los santos" ("Like the saints") is a direct and intimate dialogue with the Nicaraguan poor, in a Spanish very much, I assume, of the `hoods of Managua and Leon (I can't find half the words in this poem in any of my 3 Spanish/English dictionaries). Is Rugama's poetry not only "about" but also "of" the barrios, the `hoods, of the Nicaragua of the `60s and `70s? Well, in the book there is a photograph of 3 proletarian Nicaraguan laundry women standing in front of a Rugama poem spray-painted on a wall. Most, but not all of the poems are political, very much in the tone of revolutionary-as-religious-vocation (Rugama was also a seminarian who worked with the poor before he joined the Sandinista Front). But the poems certainly don't come off as political sloganeering, as is often complained of political poetry. This is very powerful, intense, original poetry. It does in fact live up to what you would expect of a poet who would prophetically die within months of most of these writings. Recommended.

I was in the process of re-wiring my house, and the thought of having to figure out

D.H.Menzel's original Field Guide broke the mold--there has never been anything like it before or since. It is my view Brian Skiff shares my opinion--as co-author of his Observing Catalog the objects are named as in Menzel, plus a section refers to H.A.Rey's diagrams, also in Menzel.

I liked the part about the marine chronometer.

Excellent Science book for people reviewing for their GED. I use it with Hispanic students. The book is written in concise, clear English. All my students appreciate the detailed explanations of why a given answer is the correct one.
