I bought the book, lost forty two pounds in four months just by doing two of the things that the author suggests. I bought copies for family and friends for Christmas. I felt as though the author was talking to me, making it very easy to follow. It worked for me. The information is interesting and very practical!

After reading this book, I finally feel like I have an understanding of my relationship with food. This is not a quick-fix gimmic. The discussion of how we digest food made me realize that I need to pay attention to everything I take in. I've already lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks and I feel incredible!

I really enjoyed reading this book. The author is upbeat and follows an easy, common sense approach to weight loss. I was a little confused as to why homeopathy was mentioned in the title though. The author doesn't recommend any remedies except a homeopathic remedy for worms. She only recommends going to a homeopath. However, she still gives a lot of good information and the book is enjoyable and motivating.

As Ajit's student I got a very through conceptual understanding of e-markets by reading his book 'MAKING MARKETS'. He has presented one of his best works through this book that can add new dimensions to innovate businesses. I recommend this book to all the intellectual food seekers in technology and business innovation space.

Kambil and Heck have written an insightful and thought-provoking book on electronic markets. It is a must read for anyone who wants to understand online markets. They develop a framework to understand as well as to gauge the success of such markets based on in-depth study of several electronic markets. I particularly liked their characterization of B2B markets and its relationship to supply chain management. Their chapter on using markets creatively has ideas for both researchers as well as practitioners. The book has many examples, is written in a narrative style, and easy to read to three or four sittings.

As an entrepreneur and venture investor, I've found Making Markets invaluable because it's an excellent analytical framework for thinking about and creating markets. What is especially valuable is their Process/Stakeholder Benefit Framework which is elegantly simple yet so useful. I personally use that framework in examining various business models.

I highly recommend this book!

A Must Read

Review Date: 2002-10-22
Ajit Kambil and Eric van Heck have written an authoritative and highly readable book illuminating the much-misunderstood world of online auctions. In clear, simple prose, the authors explain that the initial excitement over online markets was not all dot.com reverie and new economy hubris. Given that offline markets such as the Dutch flower auctions have thrived for centuries, it stands to reason that online markets will succeed to the extent that they improve on existing markets. “As you will read in subsequent pages, human beings have always made markets, and they will continue to do so in the future- even if business is conducted through cyberspace.” Kambil and van Heck cut through the technical jargon all to common in “eBusiness” books, and elucidate very effectively why people participate in markets. They write: “…electronic markets are not technological interactions supported by humans. They are human interactions supported by technology.” This quote exemplifies why this book is not just another poorly cobbled together ebiz how-to; it is a book about understanding how we will buy and sell in the future and how managers can avoid the outrageously expensive mistakes of the past few years.

Success stories such as eBay and lesser-known eMarkets such as PartMiner are dissected to reveal what they did right, while spectacular flameouts such as Chemdex are shown to have lacked important ingredients for a good e-market recipe. There is a very good section dealing with how e-markets should be categorized which helps make sense of the galaxy of initiatives underway. There is a very insightful section on Knowledge Markets and how auctions for intangibles could become an important wave of future online commerce. All and all a great read and highly recommended.

Frontier Learning

Review Date: 2002-09-29
Yes, Virginia, there are still frontiers to be explored and conquered. The internet is a very active place, but still full of exciting opportunities. Feeling entrepreneurial or adventurous? You can create your own market on the net. The authors suggest that the future of exchange of products, services, and payment will accelerate in cyberspace. While the opportunities abound, there is a lot to learn . . . and there are risks. But, that's why you read a book like "Making Markets."

First, some perspective. The authors emphasize that "electronic markets are not technological interactions. They are human interactions supported by technology." Ignore this principle and failure awaits you in the way it doomed the electronic markets in the 1990s. "Cyberspace markets cannot be thin replicas of the traditional market. Rather they must be as rich, complex, and compete as the traditional markets themselves." The basic trade processes of search, pricing, logistics, payment and settlement, and authentication must still be in place. Value must be created for all participants, and the electronic marketing venture must fit with the firm's other marketing vehicles. Creativity will have a significant influence on success.

The authors begin with an explanation of the opportunities, the value of marketing in cyberspace. The first chapter includes an explanation of the design of their presentation in the remaining seven chapters. Chapter titles give us an insight into the content: From Place to Space, Making Markets Work, and Auctions: The Devil is in the Details. Readers will learn about Using B2B markets in the Supply Chain, Using Markets Creatively, and Market Tactics. Dynamic Market Strategies are address in the final chapter, followed by a call to action encouraging you to stick your toes in the water and try this approach.

Each chapter is filled with education, insight, and mini-case studies to show us what has worked and what hasn't worked. You'll learn the jargon and the steps in the process. A good notes section, including website addresses, is complemented by a helpful index. And, expectedly, the authors offer a website for the book where more information and support is available. If you're ready to open your mind to some fascinating possibilities, curl up with "Making Markets."

Archibald has done it again. This is not your normal "Xth Ed.". It is a significant rewrite of the prior edition and more importantly contains much new material delivered in Archbald's clear, concise, insightful style. This not a book with academic content or one written by a "consultant". It is writtten by a project manager whose been in the trenches with the work (read project) for over 40 years AND still is. The work contains much "true fact" and in addition several adds in areas that previously have not been addressed in ANY publication to my knowledge; an example is the addition of the material on "What an executive/manager can and should expect of his project managers. There are special notes on this subject throughtout the book. NET CONCLUSION: Grizzled or experienced, managing it or doing it or did it - you can't afford to be without it. What Archibald writes of will assuredly happen to you sooner or later; forewarned is forearmed - - - and he provides both!!

This book was very inspiring for the chronic pain and dysfunction sufferer. It is written clearly and it is concise and very easy to understand. Although not everyone will be interested in the self help portion, the book takes us to a new place of understanding how our old trauma's, falls, car accidents, etc., have impacted our body in ways we never realized. Dr. Roth has synthesized this cutting edge information and shown how anyone can reduce the effects of these injuries with a simple and gentle approach.

It provides useful information, backed by scientific studies, in a clear, concise manner with lots of illustrations. It helped me to understand how pain works, and how it could come from a problem in another part of the body. I also appreciated the stories of people who had been able to overcome their difficulties with these gentle techniques. The self-help program was simple and easy to follow. If you were like me, I always wondered "why" when I went through the pimsleur Italian series. Michel Thomas cds provide the answers. Yes, this is grammar, but it is indeed necessary. He concentrates on verb structure and provides excellent explainations. You won't get a lot of vocabulary, but you you can get that elsewhere. Well worth the time and $. Advanced students will indeed benefit. I've been studying Italian since 2002 and this improved my skills.

Simple and Solid Foundation in Speaking Italian

Thomas' approach is simple, always logical, always inviting the student to think about what he is saying, and to relate the new language he is learning to the one he already knows.

You begin speaking immediately. There are no vocabulary lists to memorize. You are not expected to master the Italian accent either--just speak the words clearly.

The course will only take you so far (reading Italian newspapers and having real conversations with native speakers are the next steps). Yet it is a solid beginning that gives you the experience that--yes--you too can speak a foreign language.

Easy to use and learn from

Unlike other Italian programs, this one is not full of the same old stuff: vocabulary lists, phrases like "How much is customs?", and all the other filler you find everywhere.
Instead, the teacher concentrates on getting you to use and understand verb tenses, particularly the more complex ones. He has a very unique teaching method, and it seems to be the most effective I've come across.
When I first put in the cd, I thought I was going to return it. The guy sounds too old, his English is not THE most clear I've ever heard (compounded by his age, and probably dentures), but his teaching method rocks. I've been more impressed by this series than anything else I've listened to. I highly recommend it. Its the only thing "different" out there in the language genre.

Excellent for those who know just enough!

The premise of the system is that you relax and allow Mr. Thomas to take the responsibility for your learning process. That being said, if you know enough vocabulary, the basic flow or cadence of the language, and understand the culture or at least a particular subject in Italian, this system will greatly enhance your ability to become, not only bilingual, but FLUENT.

The structure is very unique; the system is presented in a 2 member classroom setting with good Italian students, but not perfect enough to intimidate you. The system gives the impression that you are in the classroom as well, and there is enough time between thoughts to ensure that you have a good chance to get the correct answer since the students don't always get them right the first time. It is really quite wonderful for an attentive individual and VERY easy to use.

All you have to do is let Mr. Thomas take control and imagine that YOU are that student the teacher never selects to answer the questions, even though you probably have the correct answer.

I do recommend!

I had Mr Thomas's first tapes, I listened and learned so much that I could speak when in Italy. Then I wanted to go forward and bought these. He is so organized, there is time to think the drills through and answer without the idea that you have to beat the clock. It is basic grammar made easy to understand. The foundation to speaking.

I also bought the Living Italian advanced after having used the beginning book until it fell apart. This combined with Mr
Thomas makes me hopeful that I will be able to master this beautiful language. Now all I have to do is hope the dollar rises and the euro falls.
I would recommend these tapes.

Describes the Modelling Procedure and Gives the Code
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 22 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-08
Derivatives are not simple things. It almost seems that complexity was a design goal when they were being set up. In order to determine their real value either today or in the future you almost have to model them on a computer.

This book covers dozens of different types of derivatives, including the common ones and some of the new even more esoteric ones. It talks about the structure of the derivative, and then presents models of them. The models are presented in the most common modelling 'languages' in use today. There is a lot of code involved, but there is not a CD included with the book. Instead, an access code providing a one time download for the code. Note, a one time download. Be sure and save the code quickly and on several media. This procedure allows the models to be updated as needed without regard to the time it takes for the book to move from being written to being published, but if you have a disk crash....

The biggest things this book provides are: first, you get to see what an expert in the field has done, and second, you get the code to run his models on your system, and of course you can modify them if you find some other aspect suits your needs better.

This is a new book, first printed in December 2006, so it is current with the derivatives being marketing at that time.

And this book proves it. Finally someone has let the cat out of the bag that alternative medicine has been used for centuries to conquer alcohol craving and alcohol abuse.
I'm happy drinkers have more options with this book. Now, in addition to cutting down or stopping, they can get a little extra help with the herbs and supplements in this book. Every drinker should own this book.

this book sends an important message . . .

that message is we have to start thinking out of the box when it comes to
alcohol abuse treatment. i gave this book to a friend of mine who has a
drinking problem but was dead against stopping or going to AA. he was
receptive to this book because it gave him some organic alternatives to
drinking less. in other words it got him started doing something about
his drinking.

some people just need a little shove to do something about their drinking
and this book provided that little shove.

Brilliant! Why hasn't anyone written about this before?

I'm a drinker who has struggled on and off with booze for years and I'm ecstatic someone has finally written about a more organic approach to problem drinking. This book gave me a different perspective. I was especially interested in how chinese and ayurvedic medicine treat drinkers and the concept of "balancing" my life so booze becomes less important and I drink less.

This book opened my mind up. I guess no ones written about alternative medicine to address alcohol abuse because the disease concept and AA are so deeply ingrained in the US.

Review Date: 2007-07-31
I am so happy I came across this book at amazon. It's the only book I've
found that talks about how other alternative medicines and other cultures
view alcohol abuse and how to treat it. I was thinking about getting
prescription medication to cut the desire to drink but after reading this
I don't need to. There are lots of herbs to do that at the natural food
store. I've read Cornett's other book, 7 Weeks to Safe Social Drinking:
How to Effectively Moderate Your Alcohol Intake, and she always covers
interesting things.

For me the vitamin and supplement part was the best. It talks about things
you can buy over the counter to cut craving. The Chinese and Ayurveda
medicine parts were really interesting too.

I realize this is only one take on problem drinking. But if you take these
suggestions in the book, along with her program in her other book to

This is one of the most interesting books I've read about alcohol abuse - it really offers a different take on problem drinking and how to fix it. It's the first book I've found which discusses how different alternative medicine approaches have treated alcohol abuse for centuries - long before AA came along.
Homeopathic, Chinese and Ayurvedic and western herbs are covered - explaining how each of these systems views alcohol abuse, how it develops and the best ways to treat it. Another major theme of the book is balance. If one's life is a balance of physical, mental and spiritual components, the less need there is for alcohol. Truly a fascinating read and helpful to me personally.

I teach in a Head Start Program. Like children in every classroom, I see a range of literacy skills. This book TRULY offers ideas for individualizing for those different levels. I did not rate it a 4 because I found a deficiency, but because I do not personally believe anything is perfect. Yet, this is pretty good....Go to the bookstore and check it out yourself...

I'm a sophomore and an Early Childhood Education major. I am currently in a class, teaching five year olds reading comprehension and I have found a couple of useful activities in this book.

This is an excellent source of information if you have preschool or kindergarten age children in your home or classroom. I am studing to be an early childhood educator and have used this book many times to get ideas, for setting up a classroom and getting lesson plan ideas.

Just what I've been waiting for

I have other books in the "More Than" series, and have been waiting and hoping the authors would write one for the Language and Literacy category. This one is just as excellent as the others in the series. It tells you ways to use materials and make materials and games for literacy centers in your classroom. The book also covers group and individual activities and take home activities (literacy suitcases). I highly recommend the "More Than" series to every Pre-K and K teacher.

This book, along with every book in the series, is excellent. The books are filled with activities that really interest kids, and all are easy for teachers to present. I use these books almost daily!
