This book is a wonderful historical memoir of one of the most daring and well-written shows on daytime.

Not only does it chronicle the show's rich history, it includes wonderfully bright and vivid color photos of many of the most-loved actors/actresses/characters that have been on the show.

I highly recommend this book to all fans of OLTL!

This book has all that any fan of 'One Life To Live' would want. You can relive the storylines through all of the recaps. The book features listings of every character to ever appear on the show, along with many pictures of past and present greats from the show. It is definitely a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The book did a wonderful job of cramming 30 years into something that is totally enjoyable. I really can't think of anything that was missed.

If you are experiencing panic attacks of significant intensity with or without agoraphobia, this is a great book to consider. Dr. Carbonell's sense of humor is tops and his writing will make you feel at ease. It is, however, a self-guided program that takes extra guts and moderate motivation, which is sometimes hard to muster when you're experiencing severe anxiety. I tried it for a few weeks and it helped me get back on my feet.

I wish I had had this book 20 years ago...

I think the way the author deconstructs panic attacks, in a thorough, friendly and humorous way, makes it easy to see just how harmless they really are, regardless of how painful it seems at the time. I am learning to apply the techniques to manage panic attacks, and have already seen results. I have even found relief with anticipatory anxiety (a whole chapter on that). There are also helpful chapters devoted to public speaking and flying.

I also found it helpful that the author had suffered with his own panic issues and relates how he faced those and handled them. I think that goes a long way to lending credence to the work. Some other authors I have read have seemed too insensitive on the issue and have been too clinical, which caused me to drop their techniques.

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered with panic attacks. And DO the exercises and answer the questions! It's a workbook, after all.

Ultimately, Panic attacks are....harmless.

This is without a doubt the best material for anxiety/panic attack recovery. I found myself laughing(in joy and motivation) at a lot of the questions Dr. Carbonell asks- partly because they relate so well to me and forced me to think of how silly my notions of "danger" and "fear" as it relates to anxiety actually are. The author literally dismantles and tears down anxiety for what it actually is- a trick, nothing more, nothing less. I felt as though my long held stuggle with this apparent giant monster of anxiety/panic had been slapped in the face and stomped on. Ater reading this book, I can't help but to think that anxiety is the hack illness of all illnesses. In other words," why am I panicing over something thats completely harmless?" Great Book.

The problem I've seen with technical books is that either they are in tutorial/textbook format which includes lessons and then review questions at the end of each chapter, or they are purely reference type books ideal for looking up things on occasion and not really good for a beginner to learn the subject matter. This book was the first one I felt that was ideal in both textbook form as well as a reference book for looking things up.

The chapters were basic enough for the beginner to grasp the material, and the lessons were rife with hands-on examples which I thought was the best part. I like to try things out as I go through the lessons and so the material was very useful for me.

The printing of the material was interesting and draws the reader into the subject, important notes and pitfalls are highlighted between the text to avoid the paragraphs from becoming too long and drawn out. The writer's diction is sometimes humorous to avoid the reader from losing interest.

The book is kind of bulky and thick so as a consequence of regular use, the glue based binding gave way somewhere in the middle of the book so when I open it, the first half of the book is attched merely by a shred to the second half, so I have to be careful now when I lookup things in it. I wouldn't trade this book for anything.

I have never taken any instructional classes on Perl scripting and can safely say that everything I know about Perl scripting I've learned from this book. That being said I am able to write fairly sophisticated perl scripts and have the ability to understand fairly obfuscated perl code without difficulty. I use perl as a very strong and useful tool in my day to day tasks for scripting and text processing needs and I often dazzle and amaze my colleagues at work with the tricks I'm able to pull off by using perl scripting and I owe it all to this book.

In short, I give two enthusiastic thumbs up for this book and the 5 star rating that I gave this book was merely due to the amazon limitation on the number of stars you can give in your review.

I started learning Perl two years ago. I first browsed libraries, free tutorials, news groups etc... It was nice for the beginning but soon enough I understood that's not the way :)

I started looking around for good Perl books and somehow got to this one. I think I can clearly say, that this book did the work. Teached me Perl from the ground up. I'm now planning on buying "MySQL and mSQL" to start working with databases. I also consider buying "Mastering Algorithms With Perl" & "Programming Web Graphics with Perl & GNU Software".

Anyway, if you want to start learning Perl, buy this book. I also use it as a reference.

The book is a good and detailed tutorial for all novices who want to learn Perl. No hit around the bush stuff and the chapters were well thought of. Credit should be given to the author and the publishing group for these helpful information. The Source codes on the CD-Rom comes handy when when you want to test out the sample codes in the book. The questions at the end of each chapter is a good revision after scanning the chapter. I strongly recommend those who want to learn Perl to get a copy of this book as their first book.

After the Camel book, of course. This book is very well paced with well thought out examples. I needed it as a refresher last year, and now use it as a reference.

The only down side is that the Web Based interactive segment is no longer available. not a big deal since it's the same quizes as in the book, but there was a gee-whiz, isn't it fun factor to have it available online.

This book covers everything from soup to nuts. It starts the learner off slowly with the basic perl syntax and then smoothly moves into subroutines, OOP, DBI modules, Security, etc. all with the same interesting and amusing style.

I don't know if it's mentioned in the Editorial review, but the author is the Editor of The Perl Journal (www.tpj.com) which is a magazine devoted to the perl programming language. So Jon Orwant *knows* his topic.

I've read and use most of the Perl books out on the market today, but none comes close to getting you going well with Perl as does Jon Orwant's book. I still use it as a reference today, but it is the best any money can buy for learning Perl. I'm back buying another copy because I loaned mine to a friend and I miss it so much that I want to make sure I'll always have a copy handy. My old copy is so well worn that a fresh copy is enticing also. As for extras in the book: the quizzes are great for testing your understanding, and someone has done a great job at proofreading this book -- I don't know whether that person is at the Waite Group or is Jon himself, but I know that anytime I have questioned an answer, or a script, or anything in the book I have always found the book to be accurate on closer inspection. It is very much like the Camel Book in being authoritative -- what Jon says is Perl Gospel Truth - if I had to pick two Perl books, I'd pick this one for learning and the Camel Book for ultimate reference. Jon's book should be rated a 5 and a half star - this is the best that it ever gets!

Review Date: 2007-06-30
I avoid buying software books because many of my past purchases were a complete waste of money. The authors rehash the software's free manuals and provide explanations and tutorials so basic that it seems their target reader is somebody who bought their first PC just last week.

Based on strong reviews, I took a chance and bought Practical Poser 6. I'm not going to cover the content, which is already described very thoroughly in other reviews here. I'll just say that if you have tried to use Poser without any tutorial or learning aids, this book is for you. I had a copy of Poser 5 and had just bought Poser 6 a few weeks before getting this book. My measure of a good instructional book is how much it taught me that I didn't know already. I estimate 50-60% of this book contains info that I'd only have learned by painful trial-and-error, and was really useful to me. And this is not to say that it's for experienced users only -- whether you're just starting out with Poser or already have a few years of experience, there's some explanations, tips and general good reading in this book for you. Highly recommended!

Not only did it explain the functions and usages of Poser 6 in understandable terms, it illustrated examples in easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. This book is a recommended must-have for individuals who are thinking about entering the realm of 3D graphics or serious artists who want to refine their technique and squeeze a little more 'mileage' from their programs. A first-rate, well written book in it's field.

I'm still getting to know the many changes in Microsoft Office Home/Student for 2007, but one thing I really appreciate is the ability to save documents as earlier versions of Word, like the 2003 or earlier versions. Computers that don't have 2007 versions of the Office components don't seem to be able to open the 2007 version files. Even my HP laptop with Windows Vista on board couldn't do more than read and print the Word 2007 files after the trial version had expired. I think being able to save docs in earlier versions is crucial! Beyond that I'm still learning to navigate around the menues, etc. I'm sure it's a great product, I just think the learning curve is a bit steep!

This book is certainly very good and very different then any other self help book on the market. However, to gain from it you must be willing to do it's total workbook component to it which is a lot of the book. I usually like or love books like that if there really good ones however, this one requires you to be able to get assistance from atleast 2 parents and 1 previous or ex husband, wife, or significant other. Not only that but the more group help you get with this very possibly the more this book will likely help you. It also forces you to remember alot of your past so if you don't and don't have relatives to remember it for you I don't recommend this book. The advice in it could be unnusual and right but most of it is given based on your grt workbook participation. There is more then a few inventories/tests in here. Plus, it's pricy. The other good thing is most of the advice you can rarely if ever see elsewhere so the author obviously did her homework and research. So unlike most self help books this book isn't at all simple but that's what makes it so unique and such a benefit to read!

The Psychogenetic System of Couple Counseling
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2004-07-18
Psychogenetics is the science of Genetic Psychology, a study of the DNA inherited personality traits that were handed down from one generation to the other.

In WHY WE PICK THE MATES WE DO, there is an 8 question Selection Test which explores the reader's inherited Inner Adult and Inner Mate personality and behavorial traits, both explains WHY and identifies HOW these imprinted Inner Couple interactional couple patterns were learned from one's parents in the first 10 years of life. Neither these adult traits nor these couple relationship patterns were a conscious choice. They are the results of a Psychogenetic trance.

Most relationships are a result of transgenerational family imprints which is what Psychogenetics is all about. Actually your problems have been around a lot longer than you think. Indeed while your conscious mind was searching for a PERFECT MATE, your unconscious imprint was searching for a PERFECT MATCH. Following its established pre-imprinted imperatives, your unconscious mind rejected some partners and selected others for you, regardless of whether that particular partner could help you live happily ever after or not. You may have gotten involved with the wrong type over and over again, gotten into the same unsolvable revolving arguments and had one relationship after another dissolve without ever knowing what happened or why one or both of you changed so much after you got married or became parents.

WHY WE PICK THE MATES WE DO contains numerous proven exercises to help you, the reader, erase your inherited negative imprints and re-imprint positive attraction, selection and interactional patterns so you can reverse the unhappy relationship pattern you are already in with your current partner or stop repeating the same mistakes in mate selection. The Psychogenetic Sysem in the book will show you how to locate and deactivate the hidden landmines left over from your parents' relationship wars, and stop 'things that go boom in the night.' The approach can also help you change your imprint if you are single now so you will automatically be attracted to the right type of partner next time and be able to interact in more successful ways than before.

One of the best uses of this book is as a pre-marital guide especially for people who are always attracted to the wrong person or whose relationships keep turning out badly. It will explain what 'chemistry' really is and how to change the type of person you are attracted to so that you can fall in love with someone who is good to you and for you, and not the same old type that is bad to and for you.

Now you can find out BEFORE you get involved with a potential partner what your relationship will be like AFTER you two get involved or married. And you can also predict BEFORE you have children if that step will improve or ruin your couple relationship. You can know ahead of time what type of parents each of you will be. Take the guesswork out of it.

If you are already in a relationship or married, WHY WE PICK THE MATES WE DO can not only help you understand the unconscious imperatives in your imprinted Inner Couple relationship pattern that forced you to pick the partner you did, but locate and deactivate the hidden landmines that have caused the trouble between you, and the imprinted trance-ferences that produced the changes in you and your partner's personality AFTER you get married and became PARENTS. The insights are amazing and the instructions on how to reprogram your relationship are specific and effective. Finally, here's a way to SOLVE your relationship problems instead of DISSOLVING one relationship after another.

DON'T JUST GET INVOLVED WITH YOUR PARTNER, GET EVOLVED!

You have a look at off screen actors relaxing and having fun while waiting for the next shot or discussing about it or trying to focus on their lines.
Finally you feel the strength of that "24 family" Kiefer Sutherland writes about in his nice foreword of the book.

As a personal chef, Waldorf teacher and alternative medicine advocate, I want to tell you how fabulous the 28-Day Cleanse has been for me. In the 4 weeks that I was on the cleanse, I lowered my combined cholesterol by 91 points! And I needed to, because it was so high. Scott Ohlgren's books are user-friendly; there are no "shoulds." His writing is easy to understand and sensible. I am now in my 4th week. My friends have been commenting on how good I look -- I'm in my 50s and have gained 20 pounds that have not wanted to leave me -- until I started Scott's cleanse. It sounds overwhelming to do a 28-day cleanse, but I'm telling you, it is easy, you eat all the good food you want; you can go 100 percent no dairy or animal flesh, or you can do the cleanse with some animal flesh, as you wish. Your choice. Juicing every day does take some time; you have to prepare with a game plan -- that is in the book. I did it with a friend and we bought cases of beets, carrots, lemons and apples. The recipes are delicious and easy to make. So if you are contemplating making a positive change in your health, as I did, give Scott's plan a try. It may become a way of life for you and you will feel stronger, more alive and will be ever so much kinder to your precious body.

I have used the guidelines in this book to help me engage in practices and behaviors that I know intuitively are the key to improving all aspects of health. It sounds like a miracle cure when I think of all of the benefits derived from following this simple plan... and I guess it really is a miracle cure! I was diagnosed with a myriad of "stuff" a number of years ago including fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic myofascial pain syndrome, IBS and on and on.... I found great improvement within days of following the ideas in the book. Not only did all of the symptoms associated with my diagnoses decrease or go away completely, I found that I was thinking more clearly, my anxiety level had greatly diminished, my skin looked better, I slept better and on and on! Need I say more? Actually I will say more - don't be discouraged if the foods in the recipes are foreign to you. There are many ways that you can introduce whole foods into your lifestyle without going crazy or spedning all of your time in the kitchen. Check out [..] for more ideas. I am convinced that this can change your life!

just had to write to let you know that i truly am a believer after reading your book and following (i'd even say loosely) the program for the last month. i have been on diets my entire life but as of this past january i slowly started cutting out meat and then about a month ago, most dairy. During that time I lost about 20lbs - but i was also severly limiting my calories and was (as usual, obsessed) - oh - and i also was on diet pills (and had been on and off for the last 10 years) -- and felt awful in many ways -- mostly awful in my head...
but a friend gave me your book and seriously it has changed my life. i have been off of the diet pills and haven't gained an ounce. i have actually lost more, even though i eat a lot more, too... but the truly amazing aspects involve more how i feel. I feel well. I feel well!!! In body and mind and spirit. I can hardly believe it myself - but man, I can feel my body and I feel well, for maybe the first time, ever. After years of deprivation, i finally feel nourished. And you are right, it isn't hard. I don't feel like I'm on a diet - I feel like I don't want to eat things that are chemicals, that are bad for me, that will make me feel bad... And I truly enjoy eating what I've been eating and I enjoy feeling well and connected to the earth and frankly to myself... even as i sit here in a gated community w bustling atlanta just outside... I spent the last month in Humboldt County, CA - where many people already were on your page, so to speak, so perhaps it was easier to join in - but now, after about five weeks, man - I am different... and i think changed forever and only getting into it all deeper... spiritually, even...
I am a believer.
MUCHO GRACIAS. You have opened up whole worlds to me - in me - around me...
And you are right about something else - I feel a little angry... How did I not know the simplicity of it all - the common sense of "don't pollute the inside w chemicals" b/c I guess i trusted my parents and trusted the government and trusted the FDA...
anyway. i am changed.
thank you.

When I started this program I was looking for more energy and a healthier body. At the beginning, this kind of cooking looked so unfamiliar and difficult to follow, but like anything else in life, what it is needed is some effort and persistence. In just one week, I felt like the pollen allergies were not bothering me, in fact, I even didn't realize that the pollen level was so high! Besides that, I got some uterine fibroids and everytime my period came they were so painful, and guess what? This month came so smooth and painless!! Like this were nothing, I lost 11 pounds and my husband 10. The food is so delicious and we just want to keep on eating this healthy style most of the time. I wish that everybody could feel the difference between eating regular diet and a cleansing diet, it is like the day and night. Thanks Scott and Joan for writing this wonderful book that is helping millions!!

THE Book for VB6 Developers to Read.

I won't do a lengthy review... just read the other 5-star reviews and you'll get the drift. This book is so easy to understand you can learn without a PC in front of you (if you're a VB6 developer looking to understand .Net). The explanation of what ADO.NET is all about is worth purchase price alone. No chapter is super comprehensive, but it's a great text to get you rolling in VB.Net right quick. As an MCSD and MCDBA certified developer, I wouldn't write such a great review on just any book. Buy it.

There is so much that is lacking in this book. First, it is not user friendly. It is difficult to follow. Second, it simply does not cover enough information that one needs in order to truly be able to use .Net technology.

Perfect and concise. Thanks man, this rocks!!!

Cover to cover this book sails through the hype dispensing nuggets not to be forgotten!!! .Net and C#-aholics had breathed so much hot air, I was having trouble find a place to start. Once received I put everything else aside. I used to use arrays, types, RDS, and ADO to get the plumbing done but now its OOP, and serialization from now on!!! I got so many good pearls from this book its ridiculous.

An absolute must for the VB Programmer

I have been programming in VB since 1992 and decided to move to VB.NET when it was released but found the learning curve was immense - until I bought the book of VB.NET. This book is my Bible, it sits besides my computer all the time. Without delving into the VB language, it simplifies the transition to VB.NET for the experienced VB Programmer. It's not for VB learners nor does Matthew propose that it is. If you know VB this is the book to ease the quantam leap from VB to VB.NET - explained in logical steps with excellent examples. I have had to EMail Matthew with a few queries and the response is always prompt and helpful.

There are certainly other books you need in your arsenal - such as Francesco Balena's Microsoft Reference - but this one is a must.

Good idea, good concept, sloppy implementation

This book has a very good intention and concept - to introduce VB6 developers to VB .Net. In general it is a very good book. Not very deep, but good enough to start working with VB .Net and bee reasonably productive. So, if not for sloppy writing, I would probably give that book all 5 stars.
What do I mean by sloppy? For once, author uses terms object and class interchangeably throughout the book. Sometimes it is contextually understandable what he means, but often it might be very confusing, especially for people relatively new to OO. Then there are errors and typos in code examples. Some of them are also very confusing. For example: on page 80 author introduces the new VB concept - delegates. For VB6 folks this is something fundamentally new and strange.
In code example author defines delegate type and calls it ProcessFunction. Then he defines variable of this type and calls it ProcessDelegate. After that on the same page he shows how to use delegates and assigns value to ProcessFunction and retrieves value from ProcessFunction.
From the context one should understand that in the last two cases the variable ProcessDelegate should be used instead, and that this is just a typo. Yet, given that VB .Net now supports shared properties and methods, when Class (Type) name can be used where one expects to see Object (Variable), this types of mistakes are very confusing and annoying.
I would not go here into more examples of books imperfections. There are some more. Not terribly many, but enough to frustrate.
Would I recommend this book? Yes, if you have patience and some other VB .Net book to resolve inevitable confusions.
This could become a great book in its next edition if author takes time to make it a bit more accurate and precise.

A useful tool in HIV health care

Nelson and Michael have put together an extraordinarily useful compilation of articles dealing with the causes and treatments of HIV wasting and the host of maladies that accompany it. The current acceptance of steroid, exercise and nutrition therapies to treat HIV can be directly attributed to the good work done by these activists.

I recommend this book wholeheartedly...it has profoundly effected my life for the better and is an important tool in my health care.

Life-saving information, especially for the HIV+

In 1988 I was told that I was seropositive, four years after Nelson Vergel learned of his status. For eight years I obediently followed doctors' orders, assuming with them that only prescriptions would be of help. After nearly dying in 1996, I discovered the website Medibolics, which evolved into this book. Following Vergel and Mooney's suggestions about supplementation and bodybuilding, in addition to the prescriptions, I am now again a healthy man, in fact probably in better shape than in my thirties before the infection. All lab counts are now within the recognized normal range, and there have been no opportunistic infections in five years. The authors' recommendations are thoroughly referenced for those who will read the original research for themselves. It was especially courageous for the authors to recognize the usefulness of anabolic steroids at a time when government policy has been severely restrictive. I remain profoundly grateful for Vergel and Mooney's work in a field that has been decisive for my own health. The information is relevant for the health of all, and serves as a concise starting point in a bewildering battery of literature.

THE BEST "how to live with HIV" book on the market

Mooney and Vergel are committed. They have spent thousands of hours researching lecturing and in the case of Vergel living with their subject. The book provides in laymens terms but backed with numerous scientific citations, how to use exercise, supplements and steroid agents to make living with HIV bearable.

The advent of HAART has meant a change in the life expectency of HIV patients. As a result the toxic effects of the HIV drugs are seeing many complications and side effects. This book discusses many of these and provides hands on suggestions for dealing with them.

Even if you just exercise you will feel better and you may just slow some of the side effects. You may even reverse some.

I have followed this book very casually since I bought it in July last year up until April 2001. I noticed that my "blood" results (other than Viral Load) were getting better and despite 'failing' a drug combination, my overall health was great. For the last 3 months I have followed some of the books recommendations RELIGIOUSLY. Despite having to change drugs due to resistance, my health and fitness has increased amazingly. And as an added benefit friends say I look the best I have in 10 years. My waist has gone from 38" to 31". My chest, arms and legs have all increased in size. My CD4's both in real and % terms are the highest in 4 years and all my other blood works are excellent. I am 40 years young. 2 weeks ago I completed a Vitality and Longevity Analysis and my Doctor advised that I had the Celular Health of a 26 year old.

I am so confident of the book and the authors that I bought my Doctor a copy.
