My four year old son has started collecting these books, and it's been a real treasure to read them to him because they bring back memories from my own childhood. He loves the stories just as much as I do. We especially love reading the little poems on the first page of each book! Each book teaches a different lesson. I love using them as examples of what not to do and also as positive reinforcement for my children.

Excellent book!

This is such a great book to teach kids not to just "follow the leader" and to think for yourself. Brother Bear goes to get his sister's jump rope back from the school bully and they dare him to do some bad things. When Brother is dared to steal a watermelon from a friend's patch, he resists at first but then they "dee double dare" him and well, off he goes. Brother finds out that he's been found out by his friend, Farmer Ben, and Ben then tells Brother of the dangers of following someone instead of thinking for yourself. It's really interesting how they did this - Farmer Ben tells Brother that sheep will follow a leader anywhere, even off a cliff. You just have to learn not to be like sheep and think for yourself. So when Too-Tall Grizzly tries once again to get Brother to do something bad, Brother calls Too-Tall and his gang, "Sheep." It's a great lesson, one that is easily remembered and very well done. If you're interested, this one is also done on a dvd and it's great too! We love it in our house. Highly recommend!

This is a good book about peer pressure. My 5 year-old son enjoyed the story. Some of the life lessons we talked about while reading this story are 1) thinking for yourself, 2) friends don't call friends names, and 3) never take something that does not belong to you.

I especially liked how Farmer Ben taught Brother Bear to not allow being called names (i.e. chicken) to cause him to be misled. Farmer Ben also used a story about sheep to teach a good lesson about the importance of thinking for yourself.

Brother Bear uses the lessons learned from Farmer Ben while handling his next encounter with the Too-Tall Gang (yet another double dare). This time he is not misled because he thinks for himself, sticks with what he knows is right, and says no.

Peer pressure is the definition of this book. A bully, Too Tall Grizzly dares Brother to steal from a close neighbor. Brother doesn't want to be a chicken - so he does it anyway and is caught. The neighbor gives Brother great advice that he carries with him and is helpful in his next encounter.

Her friends insist that Audra Walker no longer qualifies as a "Wicked Chick" as she has become all work designing lingerie and no play. They dare her to prove she is still one of them. All she has to do is pick up the next hunk to come through the door of the Wild Thing bar. Unable to resist a "do-me" dare, Audra accepts the challenge.

Cyber crime cop Jesse Martinez is the lucky person to enter the bar where he is undercover investigating a hacker. When the beautiful woman tries to seduce him, Jesse wants to comply, but his gut tells him to be careful as he wonders if she is part of the crime he investigates. Instead he decides to learn why she chose him by going under the covers with Audra without sleeping with her.

DOUBLE DARE is a fast-paced police procedural romance starring an ethical undercover cop struggling not to go under cover with the woman he desires as he knows that is wrong. However, Audra trying to regain her Wicked Woman wings has other plans for the hot hunk. Fans will appreciate their interesting relationship as Jesse wonders if the not so innocent Audra is innocent of cyber crimes.

When Audra Walker takes on a dare from her fellow Wicked Chicks to prove she hasn't turned into a complete career woman, she takes on more than she ever bargained for. Undercover cop, Jesse Martinez gets the surprise of his life when the woman he suspects of being involved in his investigation turns out to be the sexiest woman he's ever met. As Jesse fights his attraction, Audra realizes that not all men are easy to love and leave.

I really enjoyed this fast paced sexy book. All Ms Weber's characters are enjoyable, realistic and well-drawn. Audra's dilemma about living her life to the full, while juggling the demands of a thriving career, will resonate with all readers. Jesse's struggle to do the right thing while dying to seduce Audra creates fabulous sexual tension, humor, hot sex scenes and makes him a hero to die for.

The cover of the delightful children's book, I Double Dare You, is perfect for building anticipation. Judy Lehman's witty cover illustration provides a subtle hint of the excitement contained within. I found myself wanting to pull back the brown bag cover to see more.

This story is truly a wonderful blend of words and illustrations that present the reader with an interesting concoction of a serious subject and laugh-out-loud humor (Just wait until you see the expression on Bucky's face when he jumps off the bridge!).

Dana Lehman has definitely created another winning book that continues the adventures of Sammy the Squirrel. With the onset of the story, Sammy is already nervous about the antics of his cousins, appropriately named Silly and Sassy. Obviously, his fears were well-founded, as the two cousins embark on an escapade that includes sword fighting and bridge jumping. Yet, by the end of this tale, all is well and everyone in Walnut Grove has learned a valuable lesson.

Lehman's story is great for school-aged children as her tale reinforces the need to take responsibility for one's own actions and, just as important, that it is okay to say NO.

For parents and teachers, I Double Dare You also provides a wonderful extension activity at the end of the story, with Lehman's inclusion of comprehension questions as a follow-up.

I look forward to the next animal adventure in Walnut Grove.

I have two children who constantly blame the other when they get into trouble. I purchased this book to reinforce taking responsibility for their own actions. My son and daughter loved the characters and illustrations. The examples are typical of children's daily interactions both at home and at school. This book is a homerun on teaching that the "he did this, she did that so I did it back"... is not acceptable.

This book was about a marriage of convenience between two best friends. Joanna Vail and Casey Clinton are married to provide a loving home for Casey's 6 year old nephew, Mike. Mike's mother had also been a close friend to Joanna. The Clinton family consents of one other brother, Burnett and his wife, Amanda and Casey's mother, Lillian. The brothers have a very stressful relationship and their mother doesn't want to be involved in it. Things do come to head and Joanna and Casey find that they do love each other and probably have for a long time. I found the story to be so life-like and interesting I enjoyed it.

Vickie has created a delightful series with the Woman of S.A.S.S, I really like the chemistry between Maggie and Justin, in this book, and the story is very well plotted and really is a page turner.

One thing I like about this series, is that the Adventure comes first, and the Romance is a subplot. As a guy, Im not normally interested in Romances, but these stories read more like a Hollywood movie, except the Leading Ladies are as strong, capable, and sexy as the leading men.

Vickie Hinze is just a really gifted story teller and I will give most anything she writes a chance, but I have to admit this is my Favorite. It's been a while since the last S.A.S.S. book has come out and I hope she has not lost interest in the series, because I am really looking forward to its final chapter myself.

A wonderful read for a winters evening, so turn off your tube, and curl up with a great book. :) BB.

Secret Assignment Security Specialist (SASS) Agent Maggie Holt hates working with men ever since her former spouse Jack cheated on her with her once best friend. Maggie does not trust males to protect her back as they always think with the wrong head and that adds unneeded danger during precarious situations.

The SASS operative has no choice when the assignment forces her to team up with a male civilian, Dr. Justin Crowe of Crowe Pharmaceuticals as he is the scientific expert in preventing a deadly virus being released by Thomas Kuntz most likely at the Santa Bella Mall on Christmas Eve. Maggie knows from the dossier that Justin was caught cheating on his wife, who is now his ex. However as they work together she admits to herself Justin is not like her ex husband though he did wrong as he understands the seriousness of the mission must come before any personal feelings. As they work together to prevent the terrorists from succeeding, Maggie and Justin fall in love, but their priority remains stopping the lethal assault.

Once a reluctant Maggie finishes sassing her new teammate and goes to the mall hoping to be just in time to stop a tragedy, the tale goes into hyperspeed and never decelerates until the final altercation. Readers will need a seatbelt as this thriller stays at faster than light speed throughout the story line. Yet in spite of the action, fans will understand Maggie's aversion and Justin's ability to overwhelm her doubts though he did cheat on his ex-spouse. Vicki Hinze provides a delightful speeding rocket ride.

It's Christmas time and Maggie Holt, Secret Assignment Security Specialist (SASS) is not happy that she's being teamed up to work with Dr. Justin Crowe of Crowe Pharmaceuticals.

Maggie is not fond of men since her former husband, Jack, cheated on her with her former best friend, Karen. She specifically doesn't want to work with Crowe because she knows he was caught cheating on his ex-wife, Andrea.

Justin Crowe, a civilian, is working with SASS as a scientific expert. He's trying to prevent an extremely dangerous and deadly virus from being released by German-born Thomas Kuntz. The SASS believes Kuntz will most likely try to target the Santa Bella mall with the virus. Kuntz' ultimate goal is to destroy the United States by destroying its economy.

As Maggie and Justin work together, their feelings for each other mount. The first priority however is the mission.

Vicki Hinze has again written a novel that sizzles. Once she sets the stage, look out, because you're in for a breathless ride. And just like her novel, Body Double, Double Dare is so exciting, you might want to make sure your heart can take the ride.

It was also enjoyable to meet characters that returned to make an appearance from Body Double. It was like meeting up with old friends, or dangerous enemies, and added to the fun.

Armchair Interviews says: Double Dare is suspense that won't quit.

This book is one of the best Silver Blades books I've read! Haley makes a bet with her sister Morgan that skating is harder than horseback riding. When Haley loses the bet, she acts mean to Morgan and Morgan quits skating. Through the whole book, Haley is frustrated because Morgan seems to beat her at everything and their mother pays more attention to Morgan. This is a good book with a good plot.

Excellent book and still relevant today. Considering the current mortgage crisis, much of this book is proven to be on the right track.
Page 86- "One must draw the dinstinction between competitive free enterprise, the most moral and productive system ever devised, and cartel capitalism dominated by industrial monopolists and international bankers. The difference is the private enterpriser operates by offering products and services in a competitive free market while the cartel capitalist uses the government to force the public to do business with him. These corporate socialists are deadly enemies of competitive private enterprise." Hmm, "bailout" sound familiar?

Empires rise and fall- and America will eventually fall- simply cyclical. The difference between empires of old and what will be the next empire is that the next has the potential to encapsulate the world. None dared to call it conspiracy in 1970, but by 1990 Bush Sr. was plainly talking about his "new world order." It isn't hard to connect any modern day world leader to "one worlder" quotes or councils. Perhaps, their openness is equally related to their assurance that it is fait accompli.

A Conspiracy Theory

Review Date: 2008-08-12
The author of this book laments the end of segregation in the US. In
particular, he decries the limitations that were imposed upon the
right of State Governments to decide their own affairs, during the
Civil Rights Era.

During the Civil Rights Era the powers of the Federal Government
were expanded to end segregation. Well, should the Federal Government
have stood by and done nothing while atrocities against African
Americans were being perpetrated? Could the West remain silent while
the Shoah happened in Nazi Germany? The truth is that Southern
Governors helped to place limitations upon the rights of States to
decide their own affairs, by giving the Federal Government a moral
imperative to act. For if Southern Governors, such as George Wallace
of Alabama, had done the right thing and ended segregation, the
Federal Government would not have had to step in and curtail the
powers of the State Governments to decide their own affairs. And now,
as the US Government commits atrocities against arab detainees, as
well as their own citizens, should not the UN curtail the powers of
the US Federal Government?

This author also pretends to be religious, but his comments would
indicate otherwise. Perhaps he grew up in one of those churches in the
US that want people to believe that people of colour are "canaanites"
and destined to be slaves? What is a canaanite? A canaanite is an
individual who behaves like Ham, the son of Noah, did. You want to be
a son of God, and not a canaanite, a "son of Ham". A canaanite "serves"
as an example to others as to how not to behave. The cartoon
characters, Beavis and Butt-head, are canaanites. Intent matters: You
don't look at another person as if he (or she) was an object of
derision, as Ham did to his father. And pastors in the US that try to
legitimize, and justify, slavery, are simply evil: They are liars and
murderers, as is the devil. See, John 8:44; Acts 13:9-11, KJV. Only
True Believers are able to say, (say, not sing), "Jesus Christ is Lord":
See, 1 Corinthians 12:1, KJV. Also, see Judges 12:6, KJV.

Behaviour matters, whereas skin colour does not. It is interesting that
Moses took an Ethiopian woman to be his wife: See, Numbers 12:1 ;
Jeremiah 13:23, KJV. One of the Apostles was a canaanite, a descendant
of Canaan, but not a canaanite, as in a "son of Ham". See, Mark 3:18,KJV.
If you are saved, you have a Hope of Salvation, and not a certainty of
salvation.

That said, the author's strength lies in his ability to state historical
facts, but there is little meaningful analysis, from a moral perspective.
He also does not realize that the 'Learned Protocols' was written in
code. He does not see that The 'Learned Protocols' is actually, 'The
Learned Etiquette of the Matrons of Femdom': That the "boy him" are the
males.

Where the author succeeds is in his analysis of the "political spectrum".
However, a model is "useful falsehood", and not reality itself. For
example, students of Political Science have been taught, or are taught,
to think of the "political spectrum" as looking like this:

Left Wing ----------------------------------- Right Wing

Liberals ------------- the Centre ----------- Conservatism

Far Left ---------------------------------- Far Right

Communism ------------ Socialism ---------- Fascism

If you consider the actions of people like Hitler and Stalin, and the
kind of society that emerged during their regimes, you might find that
the 'Far Left' looks like the 'Far Right'.

ANARCHY is defined as the "absence of government" (where nobody
appears to be in charge). Where would you put 'anarchy' on the above
political spectrum? And so, perhaps the "true political spectrum" looks
like this:

TOTALITARIANISM ------------ LIMITED GOVERNMENT ----- ANARCHY

Total Government:
Nazism, Communism, Socialism,
Enviro-Mentalism, Pharoahism, etc.

If you have to break the laws of men to do the right thing, do so:
Rosa Parks did. For a moral right always trumps a legal right.
See, Exodus 18:13-26 ; Daniel 3 ; Acts 5:29, KJV.

I think this book, 'None Dare Call it Conspiracy', serves as a glimpse
into the mind of a racist, and paranoid, America.

And you just thought you were paranoid!!!!

This is one of those books that have people polarized. Anyone who attempts to balance this with three stars will get from both sides.
The first paragraph of the introduction lets you know what you are in for:

The story you are about to read is true. The names have not been changed to protect the guilty. This book may have the effect of changing your life. After reading this book you will never look at national and world events in the same way again.

I pretty much keep up with events and try to make connections. However I leave it up to the authors (Gary Allen with Larry Abraham) to make their point.

This book has eight chapters:

One...Don't Confuse me with the Facts

Two...Socialism---Royal Road to Power For The Super-Rich

Three... The Money Manipulators

Four...Bankrolling The Bolshevik Revolution

Five...Establishing The Establishment

Six...The Rockefellers And the Reds

Seven...Pressure From Above and Pressure From Below

Eight...You Are the answer.

If this book was written today I doubt if a word would be changed. But what a field day there would be with new additions.

It's not paranoia if they really are conspiring to seize YOUR bank

I first reads this shortly after it came out, and it scared the bejeezus out of me. As the decades passed and I learned proper historiographic and journalistic techniques, I realized that "None Dare Call It Conspiracy" was mostly bunk: many of the perceived threads of conspiracy were nothing more than examples of proximity in time and space, the sorts of coincidences which any history is likely to throw up, simply because the rich and powerful DO hang out together and they DO intermarry, and have done so since the beginning of time, mostly without any intent to crush the peasantry underfoot. Then George W. Bush usurped the Presidency of the United States....

With most of the protagonists of NDCIC long dead, the Bush regime has consciously adopted policies which were described in detail in this book thirty-six years ago. The "election" of 2004, in which the voters were offered a choice between a Skull & Bones cultist from Yale and a different Skull & Bones cultist from Yale makes the rigged elections Allen and Abraham describe seem like Gilbert and Sullivan operettas by comparison. There was literally NO difference between the policies of the Republican Party candidate and the Democratic Party candidate -- if one judges John Kerry by his actual Senate voting record instead of the crap he spouted once he garnered more than five percent in a primary; prior to that he had voted for EVERY power-grabbing, Constitution-shredding outrage proposed by the Bush gang, including the illegal war against Iraq, the war crimes committed there, and the torture used by the jack-booted thugs of the Bush regime on every continent (except Antarctica -- maybe).

Still and all, while "None Dare Call It Conspiracy" presented the playbook, it seemed to have failed entirely when it came to predicting the teams which would make it to the finals. In fact, in the spring and summer of 2008 I even wondered what had become of the Rockefellers and some of the other "Insiders" described in NDCIC. Then came September 2008 and the cockroaches came crawling out of the woodwork, allowing us to see that -- mirabile dictu! -- while the teams were different, many of the players were the same as those denounced in "None Dare Call It Conspiracy!"

Lehman Brothers, which crops up again and again in NDCIC as one of the main tools of the "Insiders," was allowed to crash and burn, which would have been astonishing except that its collapse was used as the justification for the most crushing act of repression ever to have been inflicted upon the American people. The largest bank failure in American history (which is to say, in WORLD history) took place in the dead of night when Washington Mutual was seized and sold off to JP Morgan Chase without so much as hint that the stockholders had any say in the matter. JP Morgan Chase is the unholy union of two "Insider" banks notorious from NDCIC: JP Morgan and the Chase Manhattan Bank, which was chaired by David Rockefeller in the 1970s. Even as those who make their living "debunking" conspiracy theories were starting to cite the collapse of Lehman Brothers as "proof" that there is NO conspiracy between the American government and a few Wall Street bankers, the great-grandchildren of the robber barons of the 19th century -- those whom Allen and Abraham describe as the founders of the unspoken "conspiracy" -- had a bank with MORE THAN THREE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS IN ASSETS handed to them for less than $2 billion! At that price Bill Gates could have bought WaMu with his "walking around money" ... but the Bush regime didn't offer it to the world's most successful entrepreneur. Millions of Americans awoke just a few days ago to discover that their mortgages were now owned by the children (literal or figurative) of JP Morgan and John D. Rockefeller. But beyond those raw assets, Washington Mutual had something else: huge stock holdings in the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco and other Federal Reserve Banks. (The Federal Reserve Banks are NOT an arm of the United States government; they are owned by the banks in their regions. By acquiring WaMu the Morgan-Chase conglomerate effectively acquired control of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, a lovely companion piece to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which it has controlled for decades. The Bushies have literally given JP Morgan Chase a license to print money.) By using Lehman Brothers as a sacrificial pawn, the "Insiders" were able to win the game, and the "revolution from above" which is discussed at the very beginning of "None Dare Call It Conspiracy" is now a fait accompli.

While you let that last paragraph sink in, consider this, too: the Bush regime has recreated many of the very same trusts and monopolies which Progressives and free market proponents had spent decades breaking up. AT&T, the creation of J. P. Morgan the banker, has been re-inflicted upon the American people by the Bushiecrats, and American telecommunications companies are being snatched up one by one into its vice-like grip. Standard Oil, broken up a century ago, is essentially back in business now that Exxon has been permitted by the Bushiecrats to snap up piece after piece of the old Rockefeller empire. Not only do the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the robber barons and the "Insiders" have the American economy in a stranglehold once again, they are actually recreating the very companies which a hundred years of Americans justifiably hated and feared!

It was all too easy to dismiss "None Dare Call It Conspiracy" as bunk for many years. The events of September 2008 have revealed it as prophetic. Logically flawed in many places, positively ludicrous in others, but, on the whole, horrifyingly prophetic. Read it while you can.

There are those in this country that are more interested in the control of more money and wealth than are interested in the well being, personal liberties, and lives of anyone else. Therefore we need to vote for RON PAUL to be our next president. He will help tremendously in RESTORING THE REPUBLIC and in reintroducing, repairing, and protecting the CONSTITUTION! Go to his website www.ronpaul2008.com or just google his name and you will soon find that he is the only candidate willing to stop the evil socialists from destroying all that we hold dear!

There is no point in repeating the premise as most of the other reviews give a synopsis. I found the book a fun read with lots of twists and turns. Just when you thought you knew who did it, there was more to the story.

I liked the way Linda brought readers up to speed with characters that had been in previous books. The plot was interesting, but not so convulted that it was hard to follow. I wonder if Ned Noralles is going to become a romantic interest. I'll just have to read the next book to find out.

I am usually a huge fan of this series but this installment fell short in my opinion. Kendra we know you are a murder magnet...we get it. We know you are a great attorney...we get it. We know how you've solved many murders ahead of the cops...we get it. We know Jeff hurt you...we get it. Page after page of the same ramblings get old.

Like another reviewer mentioned the "scooper" was so obvious you could see it a mile away. All of the characters that I have come to know and love had completely different personalities that I felt like I was reading a new series. Not to mention her resolutions just seem to come out of thin air. One second she is baffled and in danger, the next she has everything solved.

I'm hopeful this installment was a one time thing and the old Kendra will be back.

Kendra is a lawyer and pet sitter. She's also done some investigating in the past and helped solve some murders. Lois Terrone, a surrogate mother to Jeff Kendra had never heard of, enlists her aid. She had gone to The Clone Arranger to try to have her dog cloned. She feels they did something that caused her dog to die. Kendra visits The Clone Arranger to see what she can find out under the guise of wanting to have a dog cloned. Lois also tells Kendra that Jeff had come back to town to look into The Clone Arranger for her before his Escalade was found. Could he have found something that caused him harm? Is he alive?

Plus Kendra has her law practice and pet sitting to keep up with. These keep her plenty busy. She ends up working with a couple that run a business that trains animals for the movies. Some of their unhappy customers are suing them because their pets never got any parts. They never promised results. Can Kendra come up with an agreeable outcome to everyone?

This was a great installment in this series. I devoured it in two days. I thought the author did a great job of presenting the cloning aspect without too much controversy. I like how she intertwined the stories so seamlessly. She also did a great job of having Kendra having to go on with her life and yet showing her devastation at not knowing Jeff's fate. I really like Kendra, Jeff, their two dogs, and the other regulars in this series. Having Kendra working as a lawyer and a pet sitter gives so many great storylines in this series.

I hope this series will go on for years. I can't wait to read the next book! Please write fast!

I highly recommend this book.

A good mystery, but not the best out there

I have all of Ms. Johnston's Pet Sitter mysteries. Some of them are better than others. This one has a great premise, which is a strong departure from the usual mystery faire. It has to do with the controversy of cloning and while it is a bit predictable, the book is still worth reading.

Kendra's reference to herself as a murder magnet, as she does in each and every mystery, can get obnoxious after awhile and Ms. Johnston appears to have a limited vocabulary when it comes to big words as they tend to stand out in her simple mysteries and she likes to repeat herself, which I find annoying.

However, if you overlook the above (and you're not a total grammar nerd like me) the books are entertaining and often keep me guessing. There is nothing worse than figuring out whodunit in the middle of the story.

Overall, the series is charming and cute but if you're looking for learning something I would suggest Cleo Coyle's coffee series or the chocoholic mysteries for something, for lack of a better pun, that you can sink your teeth into.

Fiction: Mystery

Double Dog Dare is a mystery for dog lovers, as well as lovers of pets in general. Not only are there lots of dogs in this tale, but cats and a sweet pet pig. Kendra Ballantyne is an attorney who attracts clients with pet issues. However, she seems to enjoy her time as pet-sitter/walker more than sitting at a desk. Double Dog Dare is the sixth in this cozy, humorous series.

In this story, Kendra is distraught because her boyfriend has disappeared just after he and she had agreed to move in together. Was it something she said? Or might it have something to do with his car being discovered submerged in a canal with a window broken and blood on the seat? Naturally, Kendra begins an investigation into his disappearance which leads her to The Clone Arranger, a company advertising that it will clone your beloved dog so you can have the one you love around for several dog lifetimes. The opportunity for humor abounds. Kendra finds unattractive physical characteristics in most of the humans she meets while most of the animals are delightful. Then again, one of her new acquaintances is a murderer. It is no wonder she likes the company of pets.

Double Dog Dare is a good travel or beach book. It includes an aging actress, a retired pole dancer, an adversarial cop, a handsome veterinarian, the owner of a dog day care spa and various other intriguing characters.
