We gave this CD to our daughter for her birthday as she recently has started listening to audiobooks and has enjoyed Arthur for awhile. This has been very nice to listen to in the car, and we were pleased to see that some of the profits go to a good cause. The only glitch is that many of the Arthur stories rely on the talented artistry of Marc Brown to convey the scene. Without the book directly in front of the child, parents really may need to explain what was visually shown by Marc Brown. Ex: In Arthur's Tooth, Arthur loses his first tooth because he is shoved by Francine. This is shown in the book, but never said in the story. My daughter wondered why Arthur was grateful to be pushed roughly. Aside from this, it has been great fun.

This is a fantastic choice for children who love Arthur. The stories are so well read by the celebrities that they really capture my son's attention (he's almost 3), and mine too as I listened to some of my favorite stars (Kelly Ripa). I usually played this in his room when he was having quiet time/nap time. He would be able to play quietly because he was listening to the stories, which are his favorite anyway.

Really Enjoyable

My kids love Arthur and this product is a nice treat! Each of the celebrities brought their own unique personality to the Arthur stories and make the entire Audiobook really enjoyable. It's also nice to see such wonderful celebrities take time out to record stories for charity.

Aside from the feel good factor, this is a really fun product that includes some of my favorite Arthur stories, pictures from his beloved books, the catchy Ziggy Marley theme song and a host of interactive games to keep the kids occupied. Don't be fooled! There's a lot on this little CD!

I highly recommend it.

My neighbor lent me this book since both our kids attending the same school were victims of bullying. It goes into such detail and covers every aspect. It gives you the psychology of the bully and the victim which we could identify with. I thank the author for helping our family and I have a new child in my house, happy and healthy.

This book does a marvelous job of pointing out what parents need to do to raise empowered and successful children. Don't let the title fool you- your child won't be a bully or a victim if you follow these important child-rearing principles. The most outstanding feature is its practical nature- filled with scripts, activities, stories....that can be used to teach and empower kids.

But I have used its stories with my kids, the tips on communication and support to prevent my children from being a bullies or victims....not to mention all the wonderful parenting tips on how to raise childen to be empowered, happy and loving individuals. And it works!!!!

This book was a quick read, but full of knowledge! I have always liked the Barron's dog editions, and this one was great too! It gave wonderful information when purchasing a puppy, what to look for, questions to ask, as well as training tips, grooming tips and more. Some subjects are a bit vague, and you might need another book for, but besides that, just for general understanding of a Chihuahua, this is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it! :-)

THIS IS A MUST FOR ALL CHI OWNERS.I ADORE THESE LITTLE DOGS WHO ARE HIGHLY INTELLIGENT AND TOTALLY CAPTIVATING...THEY ARE NOT 'PLAYTHINGS' - AS PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE BREED MISTAKENLY BELIEVE - BUT LITTLE 'PEOPLE', AND GREAT PSYCHOLOGISTS! THEY ALL LOVE BEING CUDDLED, BUT ALSO, TAKE A LOT OF PRIDE IN ANY TASK U SET THEM, AND MAKE IT QUITE OBVIOUS THAT THEY ARE ENJOYING THEMSELVES...BUT, BEWARE...UNLESS U FIND OUT ALL ABOUT THEM BY STUDYING AND REFERRING TO, FOR EXAMPLE, THIS BOOK, U WILL NOT KNOW WHAT CHIS ARE CAPABLE OF & MOST IMPORTANTLY THEIR CARE & NEEDS..THE DESCRIPTION BELOW THE TITLE OF THE BOOK IS SELF-EXPLANATORY. EVERY CHI IS A NEW CHALLENGE AS THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT. TRAIN THEM STARTING EARLY AND IT WILL REAP RICH REWARDS..LAUGH AT THIS STATEMENT AND THEY WILL HAVE U AT THE END OF THE LEAD! TREAT THIS BOOK AS A BIBLE. I REFER TO IT ALMOST DAILY WITH MY LATEST CHI WHO IS JUST 10 MONTHS OLD & HAS HAD A MIND OF HER OWN FROM WHEN HER BREEDER BROUGHT HER TO MY HOUSE AT 14 WEEKS.

We would highly recommend Classroom Assessment Techniques: A Handbook for College Teachers. The book has been very well received and helpful teaching, evaluating & assessing classroom techniques.

Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-28
This book is a handbook-style text that elaborates on the concept of "Classroom Assessment Techniques," a term used by the authors to refer to alternative methods of evaluating or assessing student learning. The book is a handbook because each "CAT" is listed in terms of how to prepare, use, and evaluate results; the authors also present rather subjective indicants of the amount of time required for each technique.

The techniques range from the laughably simple (such as "muddiest point") to the more involved (such as student learning portfolios); the handbook is arranged in terms of types of assessment that may be conducted with each group of techniques. The book provides a wide variety of techniques, and the user should be able to find several applicable techniques for a particular educational situation.

However, I would strongly suggest that anyone using these techniques NOT rely on this text as the sole source of how and why to do educational assessment and evaluation -- the field is too complex and the implications are too important.

I absolutely LOVE this book!! It is the best preschool curriculum book that I have gotten in recent history... I refer to it so often that almost each page has a post-it with notes attached!

The book is great because it offers something unique: It is organized by Learning Style/ Multiple Intelligences which highlights how young children learn and adopt skills for everyday!

The Complete Daily curriculum offers ideas for many different themes in enough detail that you can easily see how children will learn from it and what skills it will promote- the majority of the activities are also inexpensive and simple in procedure and materials to fit small budgets as well. The Appendices are also thorough with stories, songs, templates for games, learning centers, patterns and recipes and even a section explaining Multiple Intelligences and a sample letter to provide for parents!

This book is definitely a must have for preschool classrooms!!

I have taught five and six year olds for years. This year I'll be working with four year olds. I bought about a dozen books to help with my programming but this really is the only book I needed to buy. It's FANTASTIC! It tells you what to do for morning circle, story ideas, music and movement ideas, a range of learning centres that cater for the preferred learning styles of the children and then ideas for reflection in the closing circle. It does all this on hundreds of themes and then gives assessment ideas too. I LOVE THIS BOOK.

Every one with small children should have a copy of this book on hand. I wish I'd had it years ago!

I will keep this brief and to the point. I just started taking some accounting/finance classes and was a bit overwhelmed by all the new vocabulary. Flipping to the glossary in the back of a heavy textbook was inconvenient.
I bought this little, but exhaustive dictionary and now it sits next to me as I study. It makes the perfect companion to my texts. I am very happy I bought this (and others in the series) and will be even happier to put in on the shelf as an addition to my growing finance library.

This book is very intelligently written and organized. The definitions are skillfully worded to be precise, succinct and immediately comprehensible. Very highly recommended, especially for the price.

Review Date: 2008-11-01
I bought this book to get a better understanding of the glycemic index, and use it to try to manage my insulin-dependent diabetes.

It came up a bit short. I am a bit of a "geek", and I was hoping for a more detailed discussion of the index. Instead I got a rather simplified version. I was also hoping for numeric values, but instead the book listed a low/medium/high rating.

The index was fairly comprehensive, although it showed L/M/H, as described above.

The book has a number of useful tips, but borders on being condescending at times.

If you are looking for a theoretical understanding of what the glycemic index is all about, this is not your book. If you want a reasonable index of foods with some thoughts on lowering your glycemic load, this is not a bad place to start.

I hated the size of the book- it is about 5" square. It is too small to fit in your pocket (as an aid in shopping), and just small enough to get lost on a bookshelf.

Explains what Gylcemic Index is.

I have found this book to be very helpful in understanding the Glycemic Index. It's presented in simple, easy to understand language and concepts, but it's not a dumbed-down version. It's a comprehensive look at the facts behind the glycemic index. It's motivational in tone, upbeat for the outcome, and sits on a foundation of solid science. I'm quite pleased with this purchase and have started feeling better already. GREAT book.

If you told me a month ago I'd be taking tablespoons of flax seed oil to increase my polyunsaturated fat intake, I'd of told you you're nuts, but here I am. What I like most about this book was how it presented information but then leaves the application up to you. I'd much rather learn and then figure out how to apply it to myself, so this was the perfect book for me.

I also just gave this book to my entire family for Christmas and most have already called to thank me. It's a short book and the information is easily digestable. My mom who's the most not technical/science person I know thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was a grown woman when I first read bell hooks's "Happy to be Nappy."

The NAACP Image Award nominee (2001) is not a bad way to celebrate the kinks and curls of a little black girls hair (and personality).

A definite read for those raising black or biracial girls (and boys). Adults can find a little inspiration for inclusion and sensitivity within this short fun book too. Naturally.

This little children's book makes me 'all girl happy.' It's a poem. It's a work of art (thanks to Chris Raschka's watercolors).

Small children will love the rhythm of book (or video) but adults will find a beat in it too. A recommended read for all parents of little African American girls. Help your little one celebrate her kinks, coils, naps, and waves--the all natural her.

Use it as a fun reading group activity. Read it with pulled tight and patted down, in the wind and all around. Invite female African American group members to share their girlhood hair memories (with pictures).

Listen. Learn. Love.

I bought the board book for a friend's 1-year old daughter after my friend talked about how there's not many children's books about black children and discussing various things about black women's hair. I love bell hooks' social theory books, I've always thought she's incredibly enlightened and clarifying, and she's managed to pass on her love and wisdom in this wonderful, fun, poetic, colorful book. I especially appreciate the beautiful watercolor artwork, as many children's books don't seem to have anyone paying attention to how good the artwork actually is.

I would definetely buy this book if I were to take the AP Psych exam again. Of course, I won't have to do that because this book prepared me so well for it. It really doesn't matter which edition you buy, they contain the same content and only vary in page numbers. There are two practice tests in the back that have answer explanations and various free response questions that include points you should make when writing for each topic. I would get this rather than Kaplan's or the Princeton Review's because they have been known to have the wrong answers in the answer key in the back, which is completely unacceptable. Enjoy this book, and the exam too, it is probably the best that the Collegeboard offers.

I started reading this book probably a week before the test, and after taking the test I felt really confident that I did well, and I did; I got a 5! Granted throughout the course I read our issued textbook, but this review manual refreshened my memory and went over some new topics that were not covered in my textbook. Overall, this was a great book and I would HIGHLY reccommend it.

I read all the pages. I took one or two practice tests, I wish I had taken more because the questions were almost the SAME as the real exam. The tests are harder than the real one meaning you will be well prepared.

I scored a 4. If I had done more practice tests, I could have gotten a 5. This book is the best, it is fun to read and pretty easy to read aswell. Don't waste your money or time on others.

Like what other people have already said, this book is really helpful. it provides a comprehensive review of all concepts, and it even has things that my textbook doesnt. I read this whole book at least three times and made flashcards and did most of the problems, and even though i havent taken the actual AP test which is tomorrow, but i got a 5 on my psych final which was an actual AP test from a few years ago. So if you use this book and study really hard, you will definitely get a 5 on the exam!

GOOD LUCK on the test!

The Hunting of the Snark is a whacky piece of poetical silliness by Lewis Caroll. Complete nonsense, no-one knows what a Snark is, or why Snark hunters hunt it, or why anyone would want to become a Snark hunter to start with. Anyway, the poem is definitely amusing at times with some of the humour he slips in.

The Hunting of the Snark seems to be a very, very short imitation of The Canterbury Tales. The first chapter (titled a fit) introduces all of the occupations of all the different people going on a journey. However, instead of going on a general pilgrimage and telling tales along the way, their trip is very specific to hunting.

The Baker actually attempts to tell a story, but the Bellman (who leads the group) says there's no time for storytelling. They have to catch the Snark before nightfall.

Along with the Bellman and Baker, a Banker, a Bonnet-maker, a Butcher, a Boots, a Billiard-maker, a Barrister, a Broker, and a Beaver tag along to hunt for the Snark. The Beaver is afraid of getting cut by the Butcher, so he puts on a dagger-proof coat and talks to the Banker about buying an insurance policy.

The Beaver is involved in a hilarious scene with the Butcher later, when the two attempt to compute sums. But perhaps the funniest scene of the entire book is in the Barrister's dream when the Snark declares sentence on a pig, only to find out the pig has been dead long before the trial even began.

I'd highly recommend this short poem for Carroll fans, even though it's not big enough to contain but a small portion of what's to be found in the Alice books.

The best nonsense I've ever read

I have read a great deal of nonsense in the past, but this was by far the best nonsense that I have ever read. There is no point, no meaning, no sense, and no boringness. It is a delightful poem (which is well written and very fun to read aloud) about a crew on a ship hunting a snark. The crew includes a captain who only rings a bell, a beaver, a cook who only cooks beavers (the beaver and the cook did not get along well), a man afraid that the snark would turn into a boojum and make him disappear, etc. As you can tell, this makes for an insanely silly poem. The subtitle is rather fitting, as my sides were definitely hurting from laughter when I was done. Well done Mr. Carroll.

Nonsense poems can easily miss the mark
Yet, this masterpiece has that spark.

"How do you kill a _____?", you ask
To find the answer was the hunters' task.

"What was their fate?", you wonder
Did they ever catch their elusive plunder?

A paragon of haunting Carollian lore
Be in no doubt that you'll finish wanting more.

This poem is just great!

Brilliant twice

First, this one of the most delightful pieces of writing that ever appeared in (more or less) English. It succeeds as a sustained exercise in illogic. I am sure that only a mathematical logician like Dodgson could possibly have pulled it off - only someone with such deep understanding of reason could master unreason so completely.

Second, Martin Gardner's commentary adds depth and background to the reading. Gardner explains terms that are now obsolete, but also adds his own analysis and a rich history of the Snark phenomenon. It should be no surprise that Gardner is still best known as the long-time editor of Scientific American's column on Mathematical Games, a mathematician himself.

I can't add much to the scholarship or praise that already surrounds this incredible poem. I would like to point out, however, that most non-native English speakers are unfamiliar with this poem. Many of them have only ever seen the serious side of the English language, and have never seen English at play. I consider this short work to be the ideal introduction to the very best of English-language nonsense.
