Nathan Ward is left at the alter and decides it's a perfect time to try and get his old girlfriend back, after letting 15 years pass. I will admit the book lost me, and I almost did not finish it. Then it picked up and I read the book until the very end. It turns out to be a sweet story that tugs at your heart.

Nathan Ward was left at the alter but it's not that bad because the marriage was for his daughters sake. Nathan's also elated because sitting on the back pew of the church is his old flame Daphne. Determined to win her heart once again Nathan offers to rent an apartment from Daphne. Will they be able to rekindle the flame or will someone get burned? A very interesting book and I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did. But first pick up a copy of "Always" because this is a sequel.

I have this book, which I got in 1995. It is Wonderful! I have read it many times and still have not lost intrest!! It is SO good, that I can not believe that it went out of print. I have also read Kevin's new book: Unfinished work. Which came out on Nov. 6. This book is beyond describing. Read it for yourself!!
Kevin Max Smith has a beautiful, amazing, God-given talent, that VERY few people have! He is wonderful at writing. And his poetry is deep and moving. I hope to see many more books from Kevin. Also , look for another coming out (sometime soon, I hope) : The London Cowboy Choronicles. These are all wonderful works of poetry!!
I also hear he
is (possibly) starring in a movie coming out some time next summer. Be sure to check that out as well.

Most artists have to die before they're appreciated. Thankfully Kevin Max Smith of DCTalk fame didn't have to die, his book just had to go out of print before everyone scrambled the ends of the earth trying to get their hands on a copy. The poetry is pure delight (my favorite is "Captured") and I love his poems for their sheer simplicity. The artwork by Jimmy Abegg sets off the collection nicely making it something that you want to pass down from generation to generation.

The publisher's annotation fails to mention *anywhere* that the CD included with the disc features 26 fables read by actor Douglas Sills, of Broadway's The Scarlet Pimpernel fame. He does a delightful job of interpreting various characters.

I really enjoyed the very original black & white graphics that accompanied each of the fables: the graphics alone are worth the price of this book including the English Audio CD of the translations. I played the CD by itself and I was mesmerized by the witty delivery that completely matches the original French satire. It would be a blast to see it done as a one-man stage show! Thanks for this excellent package!

If you enjoy French literature in translation, you should already be familiar with the name of Norman Shapiro--one of our pre-eminent French-to-English translators. Quite simply, whatever Mr. Shapiro chooses to translate results in a highly enjoyable, entertaining addition to my French lit. bookshelf! If you find pleasure in Richard Wilbur's Moliere, Donald Frame's Montaigne and Rabelais, Richard Howard's Stendhal and Baudelaire, Burton Raffel's Chretien, or Merwin's Song of Roland--then you owe it to yourself to investigate Shapiro's La Fontaine translations--four volumes to date: "Fifty Fables" and "Fifty More Fables" published by Illinois, "La Fontaine's Bawdy" published by Princeton, and the present book, "Once Again, La Fontaine" published by Wesleyan. These books are--alas!--one of the best-kept secrets of High French Literature to Read for Pleasure.
Also, Shapiro has translated volumes of Verlaine and Baudelaire for the University of Chicago press (two very handsome paperback editions), and do be on the lookout for his edition of Ronsard/Marot/Bellay from Yale University Press!

Everyone will feel their own unique connection to the story. I would highly recommend it to readers who are looking for something more than the typical novel.

This book is quite a pleasure to read!
The writer's style is colloquial, fresh and friendly.
This story presents several metaphysical concepts for the reader to ponder...The spirituality nature of beings, Reincarnation, the duality of the spiritual beings living a physically incarnated experience, the soul mate experience.
In my opinion, this book is will please various audiences....those interested in love, romance, soul mate experience, self exploration as well as dreams.
Enjoy!

This little book is a gem which makes for an ideal gift for somebody you want to introduce to the Course. It's selections show the beauty and wisdom of the Course in a Reader's Digest format. Well suited for meditations or a review of some of the highlights of the Course. In no way can it replace the study of the Course itself.

I am writing this on a Monday and in approximately two hours I will be at the local metaphysical book and gift shop guiding a wonderful group of people in the study of A Course in Miracles. There are times...many times when my ego likes to remind how there are so many other people in the group that I am guiding that are "better suited" to lead. That my "expertise in this particular area is severely lacking in many ways..."
And then I open up this little wonder of a book and I read:
"Father, I was mistaken in myself,
because I failed to realize the Source
from which I came. I have not left that Source
to enter in a body and to die.
My holiness remains a part of me,
as I am part of You. And my mistakes
about myself are dreams. I let them go today.
And I stand ready to receive Your Word alone for what I really am."
I've done the "born again Christian/Fundamentalist thing. I've even done the Atheist thing and there might be a few of you who might be thinking that I am just more than a little confused as to what I believe. But like I once answered a young Christian who asked me if I believed in God when I didn't repond "appropriately" to his B.S (Belief System) about God, Heaven, salvation, and of course, hell; "No, I don't believe in God, I KNOW there is God."
And this book helps me know this One Infinite Source even more. It's not the words of the Course that have lead me to this knowing, but the deep meditations that I've gone into after assimilating such beautiful jewels of Truth. For Instance:
"You are healed when you give healing.
You accept forgiveness in yourself when you forgive.
You recognize your brother as yourself,
and thus do you perceive that you are whole.
There is no miracle that you cannot give, for all are given you.
Receive them now by opening the storehouse of your mind
where they are laid, and giving them away..."
Y'see, we are not bound to our past choices...even if that choice was made a few moments again...we are always free to choose again. There are some who say that such talk as being One with God is blasphemous and even heretical. I believe they once said that about a certain child of a lowly carpenter. We are all called to do God's work and what is in front of us is the work we need to attend to - not out of despair and frustration but out of a joyous knowing that "I and the Father are One"...in Truth, there is only the One.
You were guided to this page for a reason. Are you seriously going to refuse the call or you ready to move to an even Higher Level of Being who you really are?
This book of will help guide you into a deep state of remembering that your true function is to bless and be a blessing. Afterall, if you aren't going to do your part, who will?
Well, I'm off to my class. I'm sure I will do some things this evening that will be misconstrued as "imperfect" but leave it to God to put the Perfect in the Imperfect.
Peace and Blessings,
john, "the Light Coach"

Serving aboard the U.S.S.Eldorado in San Diego shortly before the Gulf War, Petty Officer Cheevers becomes involved in a shipboard scandal that ruins his career, endangers his marriage, and threatens his life. He's been blamed for inciting his shipmate, Seaman John Trout, into hanging himself in the ship's brig. Only Cheevers knows the real story--that Seaman Trout experienced a past life vision of dying in the battle of Waterloo nearly two centuries previously. Although Cheevers explains these details to the ship's captain in an investigation, still resulting in a demotion and his dismissal from the ship in disgrace, he withholds the key information that has shattered his perception of reality. Seaman Trout predicted Cheevers will die, too, in a trap set by fate that is impossible to escape. Cheevers learns that his life hangs in the balance of being able to circumvent destiny by proving his shipmate's prophecy wrong, and surviving the conflict that erupts in the Persian Gulf initiated by Saddam Hussein.

This short read (90 pages) is a wonderful collection of descriptions Handke made while visiting different cities. Each description reveals an indulgent use of visual and even auditory imagery to open up the natural world and its influence on the observer.
Handke's fairy tale of an ash tree in Munich is an especially intriguing version of a classic genre.

These "travel" essays verge on being prose poems. Peter Handke uses close observation of the world around him to weave an image of the world within - both personal and universal. In this way he produces a remarkable study on the human condition. Add to your must read list especially if you have any fondness for M. Duras or A. Ernaux.

Title: Once and Again
Author: Carla Dalton
Publisher: AmErica House
"Once and Again" action oriented debut novel by Carla Dalton, draws readers back in time to Texas in 1876. Lance McCoy left Rock Creek at the age of sixteen, fleeing from an angry abusive father. Now his father is dead and his mother needs help to keep from losing the family farm. Lance intends convincing his mother to sell the property and move back east leaving him free to continue his life as a blackjack dealer in New Orleans. His plans crumble when his mother refuses to sell.
When Lance applies for a job at the Sterling Ranch, he is hit in the face with memories of a one-time friendship with a now angry and unfriendly Jenny Sterling. Dalton enchants readers with a series of new twists penned into a classic plot. Dalton's dialogue rings true as does her story line. "Once and Again" will keep readers turning the pages through to the final happy ending. Carla Dalton is a gifted writer and I am sure we will hear more from her in the near future. Congratulations, Carla.

Midwest Book Review - Old West flavor in an adult romance

Review Date: 2002-12-01
Review Date: 2002-12-01
Carla Dalton's first published book is an appealing western romance with characters in keeping with the genre. The Wyoming Territory of 1876 is a vast expanse of land, and the people living there are cut from a rugged cloth. Nature, native Indians both good and bad, and the land itself all figure prominently in this tale, but what really makes Once and Again work is the characters.
Lance McCoy is the prodigal son returned after ten years' absence. At age twenty-six, memories of his abusive, alcoholic father still rankle. The return home after his father's death is bitter tinged. In his mind, he's still the outcast son of the local drunken womanizer. That his father nearly drank and gambled away his mother's cattle ranch adds further reluctance to his homecoming. Lance hopes for a swift return to New Orleans and his successful life there, but feels an obligation to help his mother Charlotte save her birthright. He carries with him a lock of auburn hair, a pocket knife, and near forgotten memories of a girl he once adored.
Jenny Sterling is the hard working daughter of a wealthy and successful cattle rancher. Since Jack Sterling's stroke a year before, Jenny has taken on more responsibility than any young woman of means should have to bear. Despite her father's standing in the territory, Jenny is an outast herself. Nine years earlier, she bore a daughter out of wedlock. Only pride, courage, love of her daughter, and her father's support keep Jenny going. Lance McCoy's return brings back old memories, ones she tries to smother down.
The reader guesses straight off who fathered Jenny's child. Old feelings simmer just below the surface with Lance's daily presence in Jenny's life. That desires thought long forgotten erupt into mature passion is inevitable. Lance is no longer an abused and introverted boy. He's a man of the world who knows what he wants, and he wants Jenny. She's proud, headstrong, more beautiful than any woman Lance has ever known, and afraid of being hurt by love again. Lance will kill in cold blood to protect her and even willingly face his own death before book's end, all in the name of love.
The flavor of the Old West as it used to be is strong in this book. And the characters created by Ms. Dalton are realistic and fascinating. I've barely scratched the surface in my review of this tale. You'll have to read the book to get the full effect.
Recommended for adults and mature adolescents due to strong sexual content.

What an incredible book. My copy almost resembles a fanzine: it looks photocopied, and is bound with a plastic binder. Aside from that, the book is packed with very obscure labels to the well-known ones. Every effort has been made to list as many dates available per label catalogue number. If you want to date a record, you note the catalogue number, find the label in the book and find the number. The date is next to the number. Of course, the date listed is when the song was recorded on the record. It's always possible that the song may have come out several years before being recorded on the record, but I have faith in the year given.
In addition to the dates, you also get a great deal of history of many of the labels. Also, there is a detailed history of the recording of 78s that starts with the cylinder record.

Overall, a fabulous book. If you have a 78 collection and wonder about the dates of your favorite records, this is the best book to have.

Daphne Thorne, (the sister of Michael Thorne from "Always") is a force to be reckoned with, and had become emotionally unreachable ever since she and Nathan parted 15 years ago. However, when Nathan comes back -- it's on! Smooth as silk and sexy as all get out, he tears down the fortress around Daphne with patience, passion beyond belief and unknowingly, with a lethal weapon named Emily - his infant daughter. The love scenes are hot...especially the ones in the window seat and shower. Have mercy!
"Once and Again" explores what happens when a couple parts without understanding what and why. However, it also demonstrates what determination and drive can do.
Great, great book! I was so sorry to see it end. This is definitely a reread for the future! Much respect, Ms. Savoy.
