Wonderful Book Club SelectionReview Date: 2008-06-15
The central themes of finding your place in the world, family secrets and the odd effects of death on family dynamics made for interesting book club conversation. Everyone enjoyed these characters and the southern setting was not "over-done", just a great back drop for this coming of age story.
I recommend this book as a warm, fun story with some deeper moments interspersed. Loved the characters & can't wait for Susan Gregg Gilmore's next book!
A captivating story...Review Date: 2008-06-15
This book caught my attention early on and kept me enthralled all the way to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of Catherine Grace's story and look forward to seeing more novels by Susan Gregg Gilmore!

A heartwarming and gentle story that ultimately reassures the strength of family bonds.Review Date: 2007-09-07

"Lisabeth's mother constantly tells her about the perfect child she used to be. But one awful day, when there is liver and onions and no dessert for dinner, Wheniwasalittlegirl actually appears. She's "all neat and tidy, with that I'm-so-perfect smile on her face." Not only that, but she loves liver and onions.... How will Lisabeth manage to get rid of this obnoxious visitor?"
My girls now want to know if "wheniwasalittlegirl" can come to our house - they have been cleaning their bedroom & toyroom in preparation for her visit!!!

It covers episodes:
-The Pilot
-The Lorelais' First day at Chilton
-Kiss and Tell
-Rory's Dance
-Forgiveness and Stuff
If you haven't seen the TV show, you should read this book, (or the whole Gilmore Girls book series!) and then watch the show. I think it would be very interesting to see all the charactors after reading the book(s).
...a delightful "Gilmore Girls" introduction novel, that features all the charm of the show, in the form of a bookReview Date: 2007-02-01
As a fan of the "Gilmore Girls" TV show, I found myself unable to resist picking up the book series, when I spotted it at Barnes & Noble. Unlike many other TV show novelizations, GILMORE GIRLS manages to squeeze in the dialogue and situations that took place during five episodes of the show (The Pilot, The Lorelais' First Day At Chilton, Kiss and Tell, Rory's Dance, and Forgiveness and Stuff). The dialogue is almost identical to the screenplay, but that's what gives it heart, for it is the quirky one-liners, and zany observations that give the show that cozy feeling. Rory and Lorelai, along with their sidekicks - from Dean to Lane, to Luke and the Grandparents - are all projected on paper as well as they are on the small screen. When reading, you can actually hear the characters voices, and picture the scenes in your head. For people who have not viewed the show, this is the perfect series, for it recaps exactly what has happened since day one; and for those who call themselves die-hard fans, this is a must for you, as well, as it features all the snappy commentary, and cozy, small-town comforts, along with an inside look at how Rory views everyone around her - from her friends to her family, and even to her neighbors - something which hasn't been featured on the show. All in all a delightful "Gilmore Girls" introduction novel, that features all the charm of the show, in the form of a book.

Author Nicholas Knight has crafted a nice little read. The book, as the title simply puts it, is a companion piece to season 1 of the brilliant, critically acclaimed little show that could. All 22 episodes from that superb debut season are here. Each episode has a synopsis that is followed by cast and crew members commenting on the episodes, and talking about whatever comes to mind, or if there was something special or unique, about that particular episode. There are some little facts that pop up, as well as a list of what classic rock songs were featured in the episode. As we all know, the classic rock soundtrack is as much a part of the show as the car.
The book is well done and a fun read, but slight when compared to other guide books to other television shows. One wonders why seasons 1 and 2 are being done seperate when they very well could have been put together for one large book. The "Buffy" books that dealt with the same thing are the blueprint for these kinds of books, and if there is one complaint here, is that it's not long enough. You could probably read the whole thing in one sitting if you wanted too. Elsewhere, the book has interviews with the cast, crew members, and a section where they talk about the impact of the show and the critical praise it has received. All well worth it. Horror legend Clive Barker hasn't called Supernatural "First rate horror storytelling" for nothing. There are also some nice colored photos as well.
In the end, The official companion book to season one of Supernatural is a must buy for fans of the show. It's also a nice place to start for beginners who want to know what the show is about and play catch up. Get the excellent DVD's as well. The book is what is set out to be, and it is well written and informed. The book on the monsters/demons and so on is an interesting book too, but this is the best of the two.

Did you ever notice the significance of Lorelai becoming a maid after leaving home? Emily fires maids every day, doesn't consider them human, and in season 6 calls them criminals who get their children to rob you. She said that to Rory, the child of a former maid. Little gems like that make this book a must-read. Plus, it gives you an excuse to break out the much-watched DVDs again.

Gilmore Girls the Other Dide OF SummerReview Date: 2006-01-26
Amy Sherman Palladino (the author of the novel Gilmore Girls The other side of summer) wraps you up in a novel about a mother daughter bond that is absolutely irresistible, funny and loving. Roarie, (the daughter) is starting the year at a new school called Chilton. Chilton is a private school that is considered strict and apparently looks great in your college application. Throughout the book you hear about the obstacles that Roarie faces at her at her new school. While Roarie studies and her mom learns how to become a "Chilton mom" they stick together and get through it.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a funny, loving story. I liked the way Roarie and Lorelei (her mother) interacted with each other and the fact that they were best friends. If you are expecting suspense and cliff hangers this is not the book for you. This is definitely not my favorite book but it is what I call "easy fun reading".

The same spirit of the show...Review Date: 2004-07-08
I pretty much blew all those things away by reading the Gilmore Girls series. I've seen all the shows (no kidding- my friends and I should form a club... or perhaps a cult) and NOTHING is a surprise any more. Max Medina? Old news.
But... there is a shortage of Gilmore Girls reruns where I live. And reading the book is almost exactly like seeing the show... you can practically hear Rory and Lorelai talking as you read the dialogue...
If you're a Gilmore fan, get the book. Makes you understand just a bit more... but if you haven't seen the show, I wouldn't recommend it. See the show, THEN read the book.
But even I'M not sure if the Cheshire Cat's horror can properly be conveyed through a book. Seeing is believing. :)

What's the point?Review Date: 2007-02-01
There is no hidden depths here. It's written first person point of view of Rory, and frankly, Rory wouldn't write this boringly.
Television (and movies) as a springboard for novels is a great idea. Unfortunately, at the moment I can only think of sci-fi examples such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Firefly, and Dark Angel. But I'm sure there are others. These novel series are in addition to the show. They are not direct episodes transcribed from the show. They offer deeper character analysis and unexplored avenues of adventure.
If you're that interested in the subject, try getting your hands on a shooting script for Gilmore Girls episodes. At least they're a more interactive read.
