I thought this was an excellent source of informaion. I used it for a class and earned an A. Very thorough and easy to understand. Lay terms are frequently used and I found I learned a lot and found it very valuable.

An excellent general overview, covering drug use and regulation, pharmacological basics, in-depth analyses of the legal drugs, tranquilizers and stimulants, narcotics, hallucinogens, and marijuana, and comments on "a rational look at drug use." Well-documented with an abundance of relevant quotes and statistics; a rich set of references follow each chapter.

I bought this book to study for a quiz-out test for my Psych major. I read through three chapters the first time I picked it up. I usually have to force myself to complete an assignment, but with this book I just kept reading with no pushing whatsoever! I highly recommend this book to anyone taking a class in this subject, whether or not it is the required text. It would be a great additional information source. It is helpful if you or someone you know may be going through any type of drug or alcohol treatment--from caffeine to heroin. I also enjoyed the online quizzes you are allowed to access once you have the book. It really enforces what you have learned.

Informative and Strictly No-nonsense

This book is the source for unbiased information on the sociological, psychological, pathological effects of "drugs" - this compendium covers everything from caffeine to antipsychotics to alcohol to psychedelics and everything in between. A review of the history of each drug introduces each chapter. Careful attention is paid to not only the effects of the drugs themselves, but the effect which they have on our laws and the way in which treat addiction.

As a former student of Dr. Ray's I can attest to the thoroughness of this work. It is the one book that doesn't tell you what to think about drugs - it provides you with the data to be informed to make your own decision. In fact the DEA uses this book in training! If you are looking for a comprehensive resource for school, your own interest, or just to be informed to talk to your kids, look no further.

Cutting-edge, witty, and educated, Dying To Live is a prophetic message to the church of today and tomorrow that is certain to raise quite a few eyebrows. This is one of the most honest explorations of the post-modern mindset that I have read or heard. I would recommend this book to pastors, Christian leaders, youth ministers, and anyone looking to do ministry within the next 100 years.

An excellently written book, I found myself inspired and encouraged. Hohstadt is not afraid to state what he believes. It was refreshing to read. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to read and share this book. Finally I have found a book about what I believe, that discusses the worship and church of MY generation. I encourage anyone who desires a more intimate and interactive worship experience to read this book. I also encourage anyone with a desire to minister in the realm of cyberspace to read this book. I don't think they will be disappointed. Excellent insights.

Dying to Live is thought provoking and extremely quotable.

This book was more complete from beginning to end that I could have ever imagined. Everything from how to pick out the ring (the diamond guide was excellent), to planning the honeymoon on a budget. A must read for anyone planning a wedding! Geared towards a reader of either sex. Very professionally written and highly recommended!

This is a very comprehensive resource. There is very little info on destination weddings (1-2 pages). If you like to do your own web research you will probably have come across most the info this book provides. But over all, really thorough book.

As an engaged couple who don't have a lot of time nor that much interest in reading too many wedding books, this was a great resource for us! There's no filler in here, every page is jammed packed with practical information and tips. It is straight to the point, offers useful advice and the writing is easy/fun to read. I don't have to read it in chronological order, just skip to the section that you need depending on where you are in the planning process. And it fits perfectly in my bag (even the size/shape of the book is practical)when we go to appointments. I highly recommend this book.

I've been waiting for this book for SIX months!

If you read the first book by Brad and Debra Schepp (eBay Power Seller Secrets) You'll love this book, if you didn't read the first book, eBay Powerseller Secrets, I highly advise that you buy both! Brad and Debra Schepp write with an easy to read style. I feel these two books have more value than the other 40 eBay and ecommerce books I have on my shelf. I like the fact that this book delves deeper into the culture of eBay sellers than most other eBay books.

You won't find anything about the SYI form or how to list your item. This book is far more advanced and gives you insight into who the successful PowerSellers are on eBay and why, it may as well be the who's who of eBay PowerSellers. Brad and Debra are associate members of the Professional eBay Seller's Alliance, they seem to have the inside track on everything eBay. They even write for the auction industry news authority Auctionbytes.

Unlike other authors that pretend to be experienced eBay experts, Brad and Debra don't, they bring you the stories and facts from the experts in a far more valuable format that reads more like entertainment than a boring business instruction book. I do advise that when you sit down to read this book to have highlighter or sticky notes handy, the concepts fly at you and you can't put this book down, do yourself a favor and mark the spots when you have those million dollar AHA moments while reading. Instead of getting the perspective of just an author, Brad and Debra bring you the perspectives of many different sellers. Brad and Debra put some soul and personality into the book bringing wisdom from what appears to be over 100 of the top sellers on eBay.

They touch quite a few topics that are near and dear to my heart.

How to find products (the simple and cheap way)

Multi Channel Sales (Our New Mantra)

The future of listing enhancements (Free pictures, audio and even video)

Google Adwords, Froogle and Gbase.

Your eBay community and interaction with it. (Sharing with others produces returns)

Bonus section (Top 500 sellers and the top 200 fastest growing sellers on eBay)

Brad and Deb's first book eBay Powerseller Secrets:Insider Tips from eBay's Most Successful Sellers encouraged me to start my own me page and helped develop processes that I use today. They are solid no bull writers that practice what they preach, I'm sure if they wanted to , with all the information they have gathered, they could be one of the top ten sellers on eBay, but you can definitely tell when reading their books that their passion is writing about eBay and technology, they capture the soul of eBay and bind it for you. If I could only have one eBay book, this would be it.

Great eBay Book!

Brad & Deb Schepp really know how to give eBay sellers what they want! As a long-time eBay PowerSeller and Certified eBay Education Specialist, I know first-hand, what it takes to become successful and all the pitfalls that one must go through to obtain PowerSeller status. eBay PowerSeller Million Dollar Ideas has it all! The information is invaluable and easy to read. I learned so many new ways to save time and money, just in the first few chapters and there are sooooooo many fabulous tips and tricks, that it was hard to figure out which one I wanted to try first!

I really enjoyed reading about all the different ideas of my fellow PowerSellers and felt like I had made a whole new group of friends, after reading all of the "Meet A PowerSeller" profiles. The personal touch was a great addition to all the technical information.

This book is a must-read and well worth the cover price, as the book will pay for itself over and over again. This will be required reading for all of my future eBay students! -- Stephanie Inge aka Stephintexas

Fantastic book! Even better than their first Powerseller book (which was wonderful). If you are looking for creative ways to improve your eBay business, this book will set you off on a running start.

It is full of specific examples from quality eBay sellers and real world examples: search engine optimization ideas, customer relation ideas, marketing and advertising, and even selling beyond eBay. Plenty of screen shots for great visual examples.

It is very well written and easy-to-read. More importantly, it's easy to reference. At the end of every chapter there is also a wonderful "Meet a Powerseller" write-up.

If you are serious about your eBay business (or any online business), this book is a must-read. Have a highlighter ready. You'll need to use it!

Excellent Economics Text

This is an excellent work; as both a text and for general reading. Microeconomics is regarded by most students as hard and boring. Skousen's work is neither. It presents real business economics in a simple and logical fashion. His diagrams are explained well and presented clearly. His topic headings are appropriate and at times, provocative, and his chapter summary, points to ponder and recommended reading are very useful. Another interesting feature of the book is a focus on one economist at the end of each chapter. This is an excellent way of getting the reader interested in both famous economists and some economic history.

Although I switched to Heyne's book 'The Economic Way of Thinking' to teach my Business Economics class last semester, I will be using Skousen's work in the future. It is the better book!

Friendly to both user and instructor!

This textbook is an all-in-one textbook for economics. Not only does it have an overview explaining economic thinking but it also has comprehensive sections on micro and macroeconomics. An added feature is its section on government policy, helping the economic student understand how society's interventions in the market affect the economy. Perhaps the best component is the afterward "What Do Economists Do?" which discusses career opportunities and trends, even with expected incomes!

From an instructor's perspective, the book is designed to maximize learning while minimizing monotony. The text is illuminated with simple yet useful charts and diagrams. The explanation of principles is accomplished with modern scenarios, arousing the student's interest. Each chapter is followed with a summary, a list of important terms introduced in the chapter, and a brief biographical sketch of influential economists. Additionally, each chapter has "Problems to Ponder", including both abstract theoretical questions and practical, calculation-based questions. For supplemental study, each chapter has additional recommended readings.

This book is user- and instructor-friendly, perfect for any beginner economic student - simple, direct, and comprehensive.

A fine free-market textbook

Readers of Thomas Sowell's excellent _Basic Economics: A Citizen's Guide to the Economy_ may want to tackle this fine textbook next. Skousen presents basic economic concepts and principles in clear, crisp prose, and his presentation is the next level up from Sowell's: whereas Sowell eschews graphs and charts altogether, Skousen uses them sparingly and well in order to introduce, illustrate, and explain how markets work.

The text is suitable for anyone with approximately a high-school education (and I'd love to see it used in actual high schools). As such, it's well adapted for self-study.

Economics Finally Made Sense in the Real World

Reading Economic Logic gave me a profound new understanding of how economics applies in the real world, especially in business and personal finance.

My college economics courses, filled with perplexing theories like the paradox of thrift, GDP and Keynesian fiscal policy, were completely refuted in this excellent free-market textbook. Economic Logic focused on important, real issues like business profit-loss statements, entrepreneurship and the advantage of saving -- something my college professors never even touched.

Although I am not currently a student or professor, I thoroughly enjoyed learning economics "right." I have found it helpful in gaining more insight in running my business -- as well as the wisdom of fiscal conservatism in our government policies.

I highly recommend professors use this text in their economics classes. And students, if your professors don't use this text, get it for yourself so you can really understand the concepts and principles of sound economics.

Be careful what you order on the Net! Lauren's grandmother Allie has ordered a chess tutor program for Lauren from a company called Checkmate. The idea is to improve Lauren's chess against Josh. Both Josh and Lauren are members of the Internet Detectives. Lauren lives in Toronto and Josh lives in Portsmouth with other members Rob and Tamsyn.

Allie doesn't get her program but the Internet Detectives discover that the company is located in Perth Australia. This is good because Internet Detective Tom lives in Perth and he goes to check things out locally. He discovers that CheckMate has been raided by the police and the boss has fled out of the country.

Here's a perfect International mystery for the Internet Detectives to solve. Even their buddy Mitch in New York is involved.

Pretty cool book. But Allie never gets her program ...

The book, like the 1st one, happens around the world. In Escape Key, Rob Zanneli and Tamsyn Smith find a suit in the trash can and a buisness card and a credit card slip in the pocket of the suit. The name on the buisness card says Kelvin Moore. The credit card slip says K.M.Clark. Then, with the help of Tom Peterson, Lauren King, and Mitch Zanelli, Rob, Tamsyn, and Josh Allen find out at an internet show, during a chess game that K.M.Clark and Kelvin Moore are the same person. As soon as Josh loses to a chess grandmaster, when he says checkmate, Tamsyn speaks up and asks Kelvin Moore about his company, checKMate. The police then arrested Kelvin Moore. I don't know why.

The greatest book.

They see a man who looks like a bum and then when he goes into the bathroom and changes, he comes out looking like a normal person. They find out the guy is Kevin B. Moore alias K. M. Clark and he's wanted for ripping people off. With help from their friends, Rob and Tamsyn solve the case.

I brag an LPI-2 certification, but I definitely do not have such expertise in any other UNIX variant, be it BSD, Solaris, etc. This book covers everything you need to know to understand in a few minutes how one differs from another and, most important, use any of them with relative ease. And it does not limit to basic shell usage, that would be too easy. You can even set up a couple of services, such as Apache & Co., DHCP or DNS, all with some previous experience with any variant and this book as a translator of sorts. Of course, it may be considered outdated now, but that's why I'm expecting the new edition.

This book contains a lot of very useful information for every UNIX admin on very little space. When I bought this book, I thought that I would only use it as an aide-mémoire but a learned a lot of new things while reading this booklet.

The organization of this book into several topics that comprise a certain area of system administration like e.g. "Networking" help, if you want to gain a good overview of the commands, configuration files and specialties (e.g. device files) for this area.

A booklet of this size can of course not replace all the books and UNIX man pages that dig very deeply into each of the subjects mentioned in this book. As an overview book this was not the intention of the author anyway. This is meant as an overview book only that mentions the important details. You will not find many examples in this book (if any). This book is not meant for beginners or for learning the subject of UNIX system administration. If you want to learn this I recommend the big edition of this book as a good starting point.

I especially liked the following about this book:
- The different options for the UNIX derivates (Red Had Linux 8.0, Suse 8.1, Solaris 8 and 9, Free BSD 4.7, AIX 5 and HP-UX 11) can be found next to each other, this is really helpful if you work with more than one version of UNIX at a time
- Not only the commands the but configuration files and the device files on the platforms are covered
- The coverage of commands is surprisingly big (e.g. I did not expect DHCP configuration instructions in the book)

"Essential system admin pocket reference" covers some of the GNU commands. Unfortunately I am missing coverage for the following commands that are very helpful in problem analysis:
- lsof (list open files)
- truss / strace / trace (trace system calls)
- top (CPU and System Monitor)

This book has the perfect size for a reference book to carry around.

Complete for the reluctant or casual sys admin

I'm a programmer and support analyst, but I work for a company with servers all over the world and no "in-house" sys admin at my location. So from time to time I get called upon to set things up, troubleshoot operating system problems, etc. This book always seems to have the answer. If you get this book along with another pocket book called "UNIX Shell Commands: Quick Reference" by QUE then you'll be pretty well set without lugging anything big around.

This book ROCKS!

Ahem. I know this is only the "pocket" version of this book, but Essential System Administration Pocket Reference is the best system admin book I've seen in a long time. Now, I'm relatively new to Unix system admin, but I've knocked around the industry for over ten years now, so I know a thing or two about sysadmin work. Usually, what I look for in a reference guide is either something quick and simple or with miles and miles of depth. If I'm new to a system, or I only administer it as a backup or "once in a blue moon", the quick guides suit me well. In this case, that was precisely what I was looking for in a Unix system administration guide. Essential System Administration Pocket Reference provides this to a "T".
Without getting bogged down in lengthy descriptions or philosphical discussions of which tool to use when, this pocket reference lists the basic administration commands, beyond GREP (though it lists that, too!), with a short description of what it does. It's easier to read than the MAN file, usually gives me few examples, and I don't have to open a second terminal window to use it! Seriously, I really reccomend this guide to anyone new to Unix, including Linux, system administration. Or, like me, is getting back into it for the first time since, well, since the Dark Ages. It's a great guide or refresher and it literally does fit in your pocket!

This book is just perfect. From the opening few pages you can get a real handle on the phenomenon that is facebook, and quickly you'll know how play in the sandbox with the best of them. It flows along in the typical style of all the "dummies" books as it really helps you get started with ease, but this one has an extra edge: it's fun to read. The authors, whether intentionally, or just naturally, inject a very refreshing sense of humor into their writing that makes the adventure that much more enjoyable.

Everything is covered here; how to use facebook to keep in touch with friends, how to reconnect with old friends on there already, making new friends, joining groups, sharing pictures, playing games, making the most of thousands of available applications, how to use facebook for your business... It goes on and on and on.

Social networking is just the latest wave of the computer revolution, but it's a big one, and if you're planning to ride it, bring your surfboard, ...and your copy of FfD!

This dummies book provides a good grounding in the uses of Facebook. As with all technology books, it's *already* a tad dated, even though it's publish-date is this year (2008!). Applications and their popularity ebb and flow - some of the third party applications they've mentioned I have not once encountered (ie - Fluff Friends), and some daily requests I get deluged with are not mentioned at all. I can't turn around, for example, without someone sending me a Lil' Green Patch, guilting me into sending out more green patches. It's like a charity virus. :-)

What the book is really for, though, is a novice through beginner's journey into the social network that is Facebook. The guide begins with how Facebook started, what the term "face book" means (hint - it's a college thing) and things you can and cannot do on this site.

What can't you do? Troll. Lie about who you are. Be under 13. Upload illegal content or porn - sorry!

What you can do - post a profile. Add photos, find friends, join groups, make pages for your business, plan events, mess with all kinds of fun applications, join up to five networks, make a newsfeed, sell things and buy advertising.

It's useful that some mention is made of how many friends to acquire. DO you be-friend everyone who asks? The book suggests quality over quantity - always useful advice in making friends in the meat world as well. :) What exactly Facebooking is, in practice, is laid out: how to find friends, how to "poke" them, and how to manage your ever-growing FB friend lists.

The Adding Photos chapter is pretty comprehensive and moves on into adding videos, writing Wall posts and giving "gifts."

One thing I found interesting and useful was the section on setting up FB with cell phones, something I had not tried prior to the reading. Of course, young people who've grown up with texting won't find anything new here. :)

The book has a great section for business people who have not been weaned on social networking - there is a chart advising when to make profiles, pages or groups, what you can do with events, how to set up ads and find/nurture "fans" of your business. This information should be extremely useful for anyone with a small or home business wanting to explore the amazing potential of free marketing/networking with Facebook, which is, honestly, a pretty intuitive site to dive into.

One thing I would have appreciated would have been some more insights from the authors on how FaceBook has impacted their lives and the lives of people in general. FB is a huge world and I am still learning the etiquette - how long is too long to be polite when answering wall posts and messages - sometimes I don't get to it for weeks/months. Do I always need to return gifts/fairy dust/karma? How do I get people to stop deluging me with said gifts/fairy dust/karma? What about people in the real world who want to know about my life and *aren't"* on Facebook - how do I let them know I don't have time for updating them and that REALLY if they care, they need to follow me there?

These are the kind of things I would really like to know and would improve the book considerably. In a sense, FaceBook for Dummies is mostly a regurgitation of the how-to instructions you can glean yourself from the FB website. A nicely laid-out regurgitation. :)

Excellent book on Wireless LANs

This is a unique book on the topic of wireless LANs as this is a very practical book. Almost all other books on Wireless LANs are mere replica of the IEEE 802.11 standard. This book is different as it gives information about MAC-BaseBand-RF interaction, 802.11a/b/g, MAC protocol, various IEEE 802.11 rules, provides technical illustrations and tells about what features are actually implemented in shipping products. This is the only book that I have seen that describes IEEE 802.11g CTS-to-Self and IEEE 802.11i security.

This book is recommended for anyone who wants to know about nuts of bolts of WLAN technology.

This book covers everything on 802.11 from wireless concepts, protocols, design, security, and best practices, to the very technical details of how 802.11 wireless technology works. Being the first 802.11 wireless book I have read, I couldn't say for sure if it is 100% accurate or not, but appears to be so. A detailed understanding of networking concepts, protocols, methods, and standards is required to get the most from this book, but not required if you don't care about how some of the protocols or frequencies actually operate. There were a lot of technical illustrations that were helpful. The only complaint I have about this book, and any technical book for that matter, is that it will be outdated in a few months with the emergence of new standards.

This is an EXCELLENT book for detailed frame analysis, especially if you need the guts of the new security protocols. I read most every wireless LAN book that hits the market, and have written a few of my own. This book is definitely a winner. Thomas does a great job of bringing out hidden and vague areas of the 802.11 standards, and answered several detailed questions that nobody else has been able to answer. Kudos on a job well done.

I am half way through reading this book and I have to say it is a very good book! It is well organized and structured. The author spent the first few chapters giving you an intro to networking, what wireless technology is all about, how it is used, all the wireless standards, etc etc. It gets very technical when the author starts talking about the wireless MAC and PHY, but that is sort of expected. The author has written two books before and his style of explaining complicated topics in a fairly easy to understand way is highly appreciated...

In general, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about wireless technology.

I was thrust into a situation where I had to troubleshoot a 2000+ node NNM installation without any real experience. This book skipped the nonsense and jumped right to the meat of NNM. It helped me to solve all the problems and then enhance the installation quickly and efficiently. Now I need one like this for OVO. I would, and do, recommend this book to anyone working with NNM for windows or solaris.

Awesome book! A real must-have for anyone using NNM!

This book doesn't give you the typical sales pitch, it is down to business on dealing with fixing, installing, maintaining, and ramping up the performance of your NNM installation. The best book I've found written for HP OV NNM on the market!

Mike Peckar, hats off to you, and please continue to properly document HP's software!

A must for people running NNM 7.x AE

There are very few books out there with in depth technical information on network management products - IMO. The information is to the point and is an excellent reference if you are responsible for NNM implementations as well as administration.

The first OpenView book I have read that merits a permanent home in an already burdensome laptop bag.
