Great book. I don't even like religion, or reading for that matter, but he had me at "when logic fails...". Sometimes you need a more creative path. This book helped me get there.

I believe that Mr. O'Brien has been in the trenches. Those are the folks I like.

I like being able to see beauty in all things, and I don't even meditate!

I like leaving hate behind.

Mr O'Brien's book touches on all of those concepts that have helped me feel more complete today. I don't know how it worked, but it did, and "Divination: Sacred Tools for Reading the Mind of God" was a big part of it.

Inspiring Journey Toward Spiritual Insight

Paul O'Brien's love for divination and his dedication to literally placing divination tools on the desktops and laptops of millions around the world have driven him to write this revealing, spiritual and informative book.

Follow Paul on his journey through life, and see how it has meandered through his attraction to the spiritual arts and ultimately, blended in with with his passage to success in the world of software and sales. Discover how he combined his passion and his talents to build a company, Tarot.com, that is responsible for bringing people closer to the Spirit that resonates throughout the Universe on a daily basis.

More than just a description of different divination techniques, Paul's book demonstrates the way spirituality works in a person's life. It really is possible to be technically savvy and spiritually connected at the same time. In fact, once you read Paul's story, you may be inspired to follow in his footsteps.

His guide to esoteric arts provides a sound and accessible outline of the many divination practices that are available to the reader. The origins, history and practice of such "occult" arts as Astrology, Numerology, Tarot, I Ching and Runes are provided, along with information that guides the reader to the methods that best suit his or her individual needs.

Paul O'Brien is a masterful writer with a heart as huge as the vision of the cosmos he has been generous enough to share with the rest of us. This book is his gift to anyone who is curious and courageous enough to open up to see the magic that underlies the phenomenon we know as everyday life.

Several types of divination resonate with my soul. I have been accessing guidance from Runes, Tarot, Numerology, and Astrology for many years. Positive personal experience and connection were reason enough for my continued usage until I read "Divination". Paul O'Brien's book enriches and supports anyone's practice of these tools by giving a concise history, sharing pertinent stories, and explaining how to use divination.
First of all Paul O'Brien combines a vast history of divination in a concise easy read. I found this fascinating, as I had no idea most religions reference divination in their holy text. It's very useful to have access to these facts, some positive, some not and to be able to further research areas of interest using the extensive bibliography included.
This book also includes several true stories and incidences of the value gained by the use of divination. As a personal touch, the author weaves his life journey throughout the book. One can see how divination influenced his destiny by going from a mere user to becoming a catalyst to share and expose the world to these tools via the internet, [...], and this book. As a creative touch, famous quotes, symbols and pictures appear on each page that relate to the subject discussed.
Finally, O'Brien explains several helpful techniques on how to approach a reading. His advice would aid a newcomer as well as offer insight to someone who has used divination before. For instance he advises writing down your question before you begin. I have never done this before. I would just ponder the question in my mind. I can see the value in writing the question as it gives more power of intention.
So all you readers who use divination as a source for personal guidance or you curious ones, I recommend this book as an informative read. Spread the word but don't give this jewel away. I suspect you'll reference its knowledge often.

Is divination nothing more than a crass attempt to foretell the future, or does it encompass a much broader range of metaphysical endeavor and archaic thought than most of us are aware? According to Paul O'Brien and his book `Divination: Sacred Tools for Reading the Mind of God' divination entails a myriad of systems, most of which are thousands of years old, designed for stimulating insights and unlocking the doors to synchronicity so we may access the mind of God (however you perceive the Divine) and fully manifest our intended destiny.

The author has a tall order to fill and he does an admirable job at doing so in this informative and nicely illustrated 232 page paperback. O'Brien's book is a beautifully conceived, expertly organized and meticulously detailed presentation of the topic that will continue to serve as a valuable resource long after your initial reading is complete. The book is worth the purchase price for the Appendices alone.

I believe the most important contribution O'Brien makes to the ongoing study of divination is the material dealing with the rapidly evolving technology which is in the process of making these ages old esoteric systems new and relevant to a computer oriented generation.

As the author points out, "The responsibility for your spiritual progress is all yours" so if you really want to manifest your destiny you must be willing to hold nothing back on your journey of self discovery and say along with Paul O'Brien, "Wherever God Drags Me, I Will Follow".

This book is a great reference book for basic science information. We also use it as a science text book for the kids when they're kindergarten through about third grade. It is well organized, has great pictures, and is easy for the kids to understand. There are many times when I ask the kids to pick out a book to read. They'll pull this book off the shelf and pick a subject that they want to read about. It's a great book for all ages. The pictures help keep the little ones interested, the information on each page is easy to understand, and they give just enough information on each subject to answer the questions my kids have.

This is the second joint project after the reference book e.encyclopedia was published in October 2003. Both books feature websites enhanced by Google. Keywords in this book direct children to exclusive DK/Google websites where they connect to pre-selected relevant and authoritative websites.

The DK/Google e.encyclopedia science website is free and children can access information once they have this book. Once they get to the sites they can watch videos, listen to sounds through sound buttons, take virtual tours, read real-time reports, access databases and take interactive quizzes.

There are 8 core sections to explain and explore over 220 science topics.

Matter and Materials
Forces and Energy
Electricity and Magnetism
Space
Earth
Plants
Animals
Human Body

This has to be one of the most beautiful books DK has ever created. The colors are vibrant and the section on Space is bursting with spiral galaxies and pictures of space exploration. If you are interested in Volcanoes, you can turn to the Earth section. You can read about the eruption on Mount St. Helens and see pictures before and after volcanic eruptions.

In the Health Section, children can learn about exercise, hygiene and diet. I found the information on the futuristic nanorobots in the bloodstream fascinating.

Every section has a bold heading and interesting definition. Then, there are pages and pages of full-color pictures that can keep your attention for hours at a time. I wish we had owned a book like this when I was a child because it would have given me an information base to build on in future years. Although I must say, I think adults will find this equally fascinating. Children are always asking questions and now you can find all the answers, complete with pictures.

Fascinating Pictures:

Mangrove Roots growing upwards in coastal swamps
Tigers
Monarch Butterflies
Cross-section of a Tide Pool
High-Tech Imaging
Eye of the Storm - Hurricanes
Limestone Caves

This book also answers the following questions:

Why can an opera singer shatter glass with a single note?
How do sea organisms make their own light?
How can we reduce pollution by using Renewable Energy?
What is the lightest substance on earth and why can it float on air?

I can highly recommend this beyond amazing book to parents, teachers and librarians. E-encyclopedia is a learning resource that is not limited to just the book. While the book provides a solid grounding and interesting facts, it is actually a springboard to the Internet Universe.

I bought this Science Encyclopedia along with their basic Encyclopedia and I truly love it. My kids are always reading it whenever they get the chance. I have a 5 minute session after lunch before my class leaves to go to "specials." During that 5 minute teaching period I have been letting them pick out one subject area from one of the encyclopedias and then we review how to read nonfiction while looking over that subject briefly. I am amazed to see the sparks that start flying and how interested in all of the subjects the students have been. The pictures are wonderful and help students to connect with the information they are reading. I will buy more sets for my classroom because they are always in use!!!!

Finally a DOM book!

Review Date: 2002-10-15
The DOM these days is available in a multitude of programming languages and environments. Not so many people have the knowledge to properly handle the topic, moving back and forward across different languages and implementations, Joe Marini is definitely one of the few. As a matter of fact this is the first book ever available on the subject, and long awaited one! Joe covers much more than just DOM programming for browsers and the books contains a few gems like coverage of Xerces, Dreamweaver's API, generic DOM algorithms and a dedicated chapter on the future of DOM. A must have for anyone doing sophisticated client-side programming for web browsers, this book will be also very useful to anyone dealing with the DOM in any other environment

Scholarly work on an advanced topic

I have a great deal of interest in the document object model, as it is the basis of HTML and XML documents. Anyone interested in working with HTML, XML, DHTML in an advanced way should read this book and learn from it. This isn't a book for people with a passing interest in slapping together Web pages in Front Page, but it will give you a solid knowledge of the advanced topics of DOM manipulation using JavaScript.

The book starts with some solid theory and explanation of the DOM API, but quickly moves to some practical examples, such as some useful debugging tools, and some HTML interface components (popup menus, in-place list editing) which will get you off on the right foot thinking about how you can implement your own interface elements. That's really the strongest aspect of the book -- getting you to think in new ways.

An excellent resource

I read through this book in detail, and I must say that I learned a lot about the DOM that I had previously glossed over. The DOM spec is much more powerful and interesting than what most folks assume. This book gives you insights on building real-world applications using the DOM, as well as helping to deal with cross-browser issues. As I said, it's a great resource for both web developers and web-based application developers.

Great DOM coverage with excellent examples!

This book rightfully deserves 5 stars. Is it revolutionary in the sense of "unleashing" DOM? No. If you love reading HTML documentation you can get pretty much the same scope at the W3C site (which the author himself acknowledges). It is more of a wake-up call for web developers.

The ideas presented in the book are very elegant which makes them very valuable. The author explains subtle and obvious differences in the DOM support as implemented by different browser vendors. It has been of great help in my work since I read this book.

Part III alone ("Practical Uses of the DOM") is worth the time and money for its real-life applications of DOM!

I bought this book to study for a quiz-out test for my Psych major. I read through three chapters the first time I picked it up. I usually have to force myself to complete an assignment, but with this book I just kept reading with no pushing whatsoever! I highly recommend this book to anyone taking a class in this subject, whether or not it is the required text. It would be a great additional information source. It is helpful if you or someone you know may be going through any type of drug or alcohol treatment--from caffeine to heroin. I also enjoyed the online quizzes you are allowed to access once you have the book. It really enforces what you have learned.

This book is the source for unbiased information on the sociological, psychological, pathological effects of "drugs" - this compendium covers everything from caffeine to antipsychotics to alcohol to psychedelics and everything in between. A review of the history of each drug introduces each chapter. Careful attention is paid to not only the effects of the drugs themselves, but the effect which they have on our laws and the way in which treat addiction.

As a former student of Dr. Ray's I can attest to the thoroughness of this work. It is the one book that doesn't tell you what to think about drugs - it provides you with the data to be informed to make your own decision. In fact the DEA uses this book in training! If you are looking for a comprehensive resource for school, your own interest, or just to be informed to talk to your kids, look no further.

Cutting-edge, witty, and educated, Dying To Live is a prophetic message to the church of today and tomorrow that is certain to raise quite a few eyebrows. This is one of the most honest explorations of the post-modern mindset that I have read or heard. I would recommend this book to pastors, Christian leaders, youth ministers, and anyone looking to do ministry within the next 100 years.

I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to read and share this book. Finally I have found a book about what I believe, that discusses the worship and church of MY generation. I encourage anyone who desires a more intimate and interactive worship experience to read this book. I also encourage anyone with a desire to minister in the realm of cyberspace to read this book. There's no filler in here, every page is jammed packed with practical information and tips. It is straight to the point, offers useful advice and the writing is easy/fun to read. I don't have to read it in chronological order, just skip to the section that you need depending on where you are in the planning process. And it fits perfectly in my bag (even the size/shape of the book is practical)when we go to appointments. I highly recommend this book.

I've been waiting for this book for SIX months!

If you read the first book by Brad and Debra Schepp (eBay Power Seller Secrets) You'll love this book, if you didn't read the first book, eBay Powerseller Secrets, I highly advise that you buy both! Brad and Debra Schepp write with an easy to read style. I feel these two books have more value than the other 40 eBay and ecommerce books I have on my shelf. I like the fact that this book delves deeper into the culture of eBay sellers than most other eBay books.

You won't find anything about the SYI form or how to list your item. This book is far more advanced and gives you insight into who the successful PowerSellers are on eBay and why, it may as well be the who's who of eBay PowerSellers. Brad and Debra are associate members of the Professional eBay Seller's Alliance, they seem to have the inside track on everything eBay. They even write for the auction industry news authority Auctionbytes.

Unlike other authors that pretend to be experienced eBay experts, Brad and Debra don't, they bring you the stories and facts from the experts in a far more valuable format that reads more like entertainment than a boring business instruction book. I do advise that when you sit down to read this book to have highlighter or sticky notes handy, the concepts fly at you and you can't put this book down, do yourself a favor and mark the spots when you have those million dollar AHA moments while reading. Instead of getting the perspective of just an author, Brad and Debra bring you the perspectives of many different sellers. Brad and Debra put some soul and personality into the book bringing wisdom from what appears to be over 100 of the top sellers on eBay.

They touch quite a few topics that are near and dear to my heart.

How to find products (the simple and cheap way)

Multi Channel Sales (Our New Mantra)

The future of listing enhancements (Free pictures, audio and even video)

Google Adwords, Froogle and Gbase.

Your eBay community and interaction with it. (Sharing with others produces returns)

Bonus section (Top 500 sellers and the top 200 fastest growing sellers on eBay)

Brad and Deb's first book eBay Powerseller Secrets:Insider Tips from eBay's Most Successful Sellers encouraged me to start my own me page and helped develop processes that I use today. They are solid no bull writers that practice what they preach, I'm sure if they wanted to , with all the information they have gathered, they could be one of the top ten sellers on eBay, but you can definitely tell when reading their books that their passion is writing about eBay and technology, they capture the soul of eBay and bind it for you. If I could only have one eBay book, this would be it.

Great eBay Book!

Brad & Deb Schepp really know how to give eBay sellers what they want! As a long-time eBay PowerSeller and Certified eBay Education Specialist, I know first-hand, what it takes to become successful and all the pitfalls that one must go through to obtain PowerSeller status. eBay PowerSeller Million Dollar Ideas has it all! The information is invaluable and easy to read. I learned so many new ways to save time and money, just in the first few chapters and there are sooooooo many fabulous tips and tricks, that it was hard to figure out which one I wanted to try first!

I really enjoyed reading about all the different ideas of my fellow PowerSellers and felt like I had made a whole new group of friends, after reading all of the "Meet A PowerSeller" profiles. The personal touch was a great addition to all the technical information.

This book is a must-read and well worth the cover price, as the book will pay for itself over and over again. This will be required reading for all of my future eBay students! -- Stephanie Inge aka Stephintexas

Fantastic book! Even better than their first Powerseller book (which was wonderful). If you are looking for creative ways to improve your eBay business, this book will set you off on a running start.

It is full of specific examples from quality eBay sellers and real world examples: search engine optimization ideas, customer relation ideas, marketing and advertising, and even selling beyond eBay. Plenty of screen shots for great visual examples.

It is very well written and easy-to-read. More importantly, it's easy to reference. At the end of every chapter there is also a wonderful "Meet a Powerseller" write-up.

If you are serious about your eBay business (or any online business), this book is a must-read. Have a highlighter ready. You'll need to use it!

This is an excellent work; as both a text and for general reading. Microeconomics is regarded by most students as hard and boring. Skousen's work is neither. It presents real business economics in a simple and logical fashion. His diagrams are explained well and presented clearly. His topic headings are appropriate and at times, provocative, and his chapter summary, points to ponder and recommended reading are very useful. Another interesting feature of the book is a focus on one economist at the end of each chapter. This is an excellent way of getting the reader interested in both famous economists and some economic history.

Although I switched to Heyne's book 'The Economic Way of Thinking' to teach my Business Economics class last semester, I will be using Skousen's work in the future. It is the better book!

Friendly to both user and instructor!

This textbook is an all-in-one textbook for economics. Not only does it have an overview explaining economic thinking but it also has comprehensive sections on micro and macroeconomics. An added feature is its section on government policy, helping the economic student understand how society's interventions in the market affect the economy. Perhaps the best component is the afterward "What Do Economists Do?" which discusses career opportunities and trends, even with expected incomes!

From an instructor's perspective, the book is designed to maximize learning while minimizing monotony. The text is illuminated with simple yet useful charts and diagrams. The explanation of principles is accomplished with modern scenarios, arousing the student's interest. Each chapter is followed with a summary, a list of important terms introduced in the chapter, and a brief biographical sketch of influential economists. Additionally, each chapter has "Problems to Ponder", including both abstract theoretical questions and practical, calculation-based questions. For supplemental study, each chapter has additional recommended readings.

This book is user- and instructor-friendly, perfect for any beginner economic student - simple, direct, and comprehensive.

Skousen presents basic economic concepts and principles in clear, crisp prose, and his presentation is the next level up from Sowell's: whereas Sowell eschews graphs and charts altogether, Skousen uses them sparingly and well in order to introduce, illustrate, and explain how markets work.

The text is suitable for anyone with approximately a high-school education (and I'd love to see it used in actual high schools). As such, it's well adapted for self-study.

Economics Finally Made Sense in the Real World

Reading Economic Logic gave me a profound new understanding of how economics applies in the real world, especially in business and personal finance.

My college economics courses, filled with perplexing theories like the paradox of thrift, GDP and Keynesian fiscal policy, were completely refuted in this excellent free-market textbook. Economic Logic focused on important, real issues like business profit-loss statements, entrepreneurship and the advantage of saving -- something my college professors never even touched.

Although I am not currently a student or professor, I thoroughly enjoyed learning economics "right." I have found it helpful in gaining more insight in running my business -- as well as the wisdom of fiscal conservatism in our government policies.

I highly recommend professors use this text in their economics classes. And students, if your professors don't use this text, get it for yourself so you can really understand the concepts and principles of sound economics.

Be careful what you order on the Net! Lauren's grandmother Allie has ordered a chess tutor program for Lauren from a company called Checkmate. The idea is to improve Lauren's chess against Josh. Both Josh and Lauren are members of the Internet Detectives. Lauren lives in Toronto and Josh lives in Portsmouth with other members Rob and Tamsyn.

Allie doesn't get her program but the Internet Detectives discover that the company is located in Perth Australia. This is good because Internet Detective Tom lives in Perth and he goes to check things out locally. He discovers that CheckMate has been raided by the police and the boss has fled out of the country.

Here's a perfect International mystery for the Internet Detectives to solve. Even their buddy Mitch in New York is involved.

Pretty cool book. But Allie never gets her program ...

It tells what the book is about and what happens in it.

The book, like the 1st one, happens around the world. In Escape Key, Rob Zanneli and Tamsyn Smith find a suit in the trash can and a buisness card and a credit card slip in the pocket of the suit. The name on the buisness card says Kelvin Moore. The credit card slip says K.M.Clark. Then, with the help of Tom Peterson, Lauren King, and Mitch Zanelli, Rob, Tamsyn, and Josh Allen find out at an internet show, during a chess game that K.M.Clark and Kelvin Moore are the same person. As soon as Josh loses to a chess grandmaster, when he says checkmate, Tamsyn speaks up and asks Kelvin Moore about his company, checKMate. The police then arrested Kelvin Moore. I don't know why.

The greatest book.

I thought this was a great book.Rob and Tamsyn are at the airport and while they're there , they play there there own version of I Spy. They see a man who looks like a bum and then when he goes into the bathroom and changes, he comes out looking like a normal person. They find out the guy is Kevin B. Moore alias K. M. Clark and he's wanted for ripping people off. With help from their friends, Rob and Tamsyn solve the case.

This is a great book for people who enjoy using the Internet and like realistic adventures. The book is so interesting that I felt like I was one of the characters. Once you pick this book up, you can never put it down. I liked this book so much I am going to get another one. I recommend this book for kids 9-13 years of age.

About halfway through the book and it has over delivered many times already.

Easy to understand, sequential step-by-step actions clearly written, nice touch of humor throughout.

Definitely recommended if you want to know Facebook inside and out.

This book is just perfect. From the opening few pages you can get a real handle on the phenomenon that is facebook, and quickly you'll know how play in the sandbox with the best of them. It flows along in the typical style of all the "dummies" books as it really helps you get started with ease, but this one has an extra edge: it's fun to read. The authors, whether intentionally, or just naturally, inject a very refreshing sense of humor into their writing that makes the adventure that much more enjoyable.

Everything is covered here; how to use facebook to keep in touch with friends, how to reconnect with old friends on there already, making new friends, joining groups, sharing pictures, playing games, making the most of thousands of available applications, how to use facebook for your business... It goes on and on and on.

Social networking is just the latest wave of the computer revolution, but it's a big one, and if you're planning to ride it, bring your surfboard, ...and your copy of FfD!
~well done.

A good introduction to social networking for newbies and beginners

This dummies book provides a good grounding in the uses of Facebook. As with all technology books, it's *already* a tad dated, even though it's publish-date is this year (2008!). Applications and their popularity ebb and flow - some of the third party applications they've mentioned I have not once encountered (ie - Fluff Friends), and some daily requests I get deluged with are not mentioned at all. I can't turn around, for example, without someone sending me a Lil' Green Patch, guilting me into sending out more green patches. It's like a charity virus. :-)

What the book is really for, though, is a novice through beginner's journey into the social network that is Facebook. The guide begins with how Facebook started, what the term "face book" means (hint - it's a college thing) and things you can and cannot do on this site.

What can't you do? Troll. Lie about who you are. Be under 13. Upload illegal content or porn - sorry!

What you can do - post a profile. Add photos, find friends, join groups, make pages for your business, plan events, mess with all kinds of fun applications, join up to five networks, make a newsfeed, sell things and buy advertising.

It's useful that some mention is made of how many friends to acquire. DO you be-friend everyone who asks? The book suggests quality over quantity - always useful advice in making friends in the meat world as well. :) What exactly Facebooking is, in practice, is laid out: how to find friends, how to "poke" them, and how to manage your ever-growing FB friend lists.

The Adding Photos chapter is pretty comprehensive and moves on into adding videos, writing Wall posts and giving "gifts."

One thing I found interesting and useful was the section on setting up FB with cell phones, something I had not tried prior to the reading. Of course, young people who've grown up with texting won't find anything new here. :)

The book has a great section for business people who have not been weaned on social networking - there is a chart advising when to make profiles, pages or groups, what you can do with events, how to set up ads and find/nurture "fans" of your business. This information should be extremely useful for anyone with a small or home business wanting to explore the amazing potential of free marketing/networking with Facebook, which is, honestly, a pretty intuitive site to dive into.

One thing I would have appreciated would have been some more insights from the authors on how FaceBook has impacted their lives and the lives of people in general. FB is a huge world and I am still learning the etiquette - how long is too long to be polite when answering wall posts and messages - sometimes I don't get to it for weeks/months. Do I always need to return gifts/fairy dust/karma? How do I get people to stop deluging me with said gifts/fairy dust/karma? What about people in the real world who want to know about my life and *aren't"* on Facebook - how do I let them know I don't have time for updating them and that REALLY if they care, they need to follow me there?

These are the kind of things I would really like to know and would improve the book considerably. In a sense, FaceBook for Dummies is mostly a regurgitation of the how-to instructions you can glean yourself from the FB website. A nicely laid-out regurgitation. :)
