As an IT professional, I understand the need for quick and complete information, and this book gives it. The learners guide for beginners and the definitive guide for advanced users all in one package. Inovative, and thought inspiring, the theories in design and implimentaion are on the cutting edge of design concepts, even 6 moth after its release.

Although this book is rich with details, it is too terse to be considered comprehensive. The ideal audience, in my opinion, consists of (1) project managers who will be tasked with planning these systems, (2) development managers who need to organize their resources to produce systems that are rapidly evolving even before the first line of code is written, and (3) production support, which will be taking highly dynamic systems into production.

One thing stands out about this book - it begins with business requirements and makes them a central theme of the Internet Commerce Development Methodology (ICDM), which is the author's approach to e-commerce systems development. The ICDM is the heart of this book. It's a methodology that successfully marries business analysis and development, and also defines how the project should be organized. It's a top-down approach with feasibility analysis and strategy at the top. The next layer in ICDM is the process level, which is imperative for e-commerce initiatives, which will certainly change business processes. This layer also requires a feasibility analysis, as well as process change, reengineering and transformation steps. Next is the meta-development strategy that encompasses your component strategy, functional requirements, architecture, design and implementation. Each element requires a feasibility analysis. Stepping back and viewing the ICDM as a whole it looks a lot like a spiral life cycle approach. I am not sure that is the author's intent, but it can be construed as such, especially if you view the feasibility analyses checkpoints as risk assessments as well.

The entire process is evolutionary, and therefore the approach supports incremental delivery and implementation. In many respects it resembles the Rational Unified Process and could be easily aligned to a project that used that approach in e-commerce development. Even of you are locked into a different methodology I strongly recommend this book because it has some excellent practices and will give you ideas that can be seamlessly incorporated into your approach.

Practitioners and students have been waiting for a book such as this to come along. In reality there is very little in the way of methodological help guiding the development of information systems for conducting web commerce. This book doesn't disregard the lessons learned from the evolution of systems development but it introduces the key issues throughout the lifecycle that differentiate the complexities of web systems from their traditional counterparts.

This book provides the information needed to develop Web Systems in an organisational setting. It takes you through all the components of development with an innovative approach called ICDM. The methods have helped me greatly at work in my role as a Web developer.

I am in the process of starting my own specialized tour business and brought this book out of hibernation for review. I had purchased it a couple years ago and it has just been marking time.

The author has done a superb job of guiding someone through the minefield of travel marketing --- and her advice still holds up to date.

I'm sure someone can find fault with not being 'up to date' since 9/11, yet this is flawless strategy that one only needs to update by adding a Google Adwords program, and possibly some eBay listings.

Reminds me of buying a mint 5 year old Porsche, which still offers all the amenities, yet one could upgrade the sound system if you wanted.

If you are going into the travel business, or almost any business for that matter, this is a classic that you can use and adjust accordingly to fit your niche.

Well worth it.

Marketing on the Internet can lead you down a series of complicated and confusing paths. But, if you're in charge of marketing a destination or lodging, gain the upper hand by reading Susan Sweeney's "Internet Marketing for Your Tourism Business."

As soon as you begin thumbing through this 562-page resource, you¹ll want to begin highlighting important passages. Whatever you do, resist that temptation. Why? Because if you start highlighting the important stuff, the entire book will be yellow before you know it!

Sweeney discusses basic marketing principles, web site design, the importance of search engine placement, targeting tourism newsgroups and mailing lists, building web site traffic, using e-mail effectively, developing link strategies with complementary businesses, advertising on line, accepting online reservations, maximizing media relations, and determining if webcasting is right for your site.

I love the fact that Sweeney uses real world examples from the travel industry to illustrate her points throughout the book. You¹ll learn how the Expedias of this world made it to the top.

"Internet Marketing for Your Tourism Business" is packed with tips that any tourism professional can use to enhance his or her company's presence on the web. Even if you don't have time to read the book thoroughly, it's worth the cover price for the massive Appendix. It¹s got a great section defining web terms, as well as a comprehensive list of Internet marketing resources.

This book is incredible. I am a bed and breakfast operator and I wanted to have a serious online presence, but didn't know how. I searched was looking for an Internet marketing book and was astonished when I found this book which was written specifically for my industry. This book is fantastic and was just the tool that I needed to begin implementing my online marketing strategy. I would recommend this book to all Tourism operators who have an online presence, or are considering going online.

This is an excellent book for hotel and travel managers as it contains tons of useful information and practical advice. Wheather you have an inhouse webmaster or are outsourcing the task (like I do), it will help you market better on the internet. I read it along with Heads In Beds-Hospitality and Tourism Marketing, and have improved my marketing activities ever since. Now I'm annoying my colleagues by telling them to read both. But those who did were grateful. A must read.

Our family is opening a modest Inn in Bangkok, Thailand later this year, so I decided to purchase this book after reading all the rave reviews. I started browsing through this book today and boy am I impressed! The title of this book seemed rather generic at first, but it more or less covered everything I wanted to know about how to market for my inn on the WWW.

Topics that were of most interest to me included: increasing hits for your site on popular search engines, tips for creating great websites, how to issue press releases and how to get listed on pertinent directories.

The author obviously put in ALOT of research before putting pen to paper to write this book. The recommended websites alone (at the end of each chapter) are well worth the money spent. My only complaint is that many of the recommended links are outdated or broken - but this is by no means the fault of the author... A must buy!

I only recently became a [website user]. Just a month ago, someone said to me, "Aww heck, they won't let me FTP from behind this firewall at work."

And I felt really stupid.

Fortunately for me, this very technical book was not at all confusing, as I ran off and bought it immediately after my humiliation. It is written in an informative and relatively jargon-free language. I have been tranformed from a virus-laden security ignoramus to a web geek security know-it-all!!!

Building a secure Internet infrastructure is akin to building a house. There are a lot of different entities involved, that all must work together to ensure that the edifice is properly constructed. If the building is not properly constructed, even a small wind can topple it.

While a house needs an architect, contractors, plumbers, electricians and much more; networks require similar sets of skills if it is to be deployed in a secure manner. Just as companies are finishing their migrations, there are new updates to deal with. For those looking to design their Internet information security infrastructure, Internet Site Security is an excellent title to use as their guide. It is like an architects guide to building secure networks.

The book is quite comprehensive in its coverage of all critical areas of security. It details how to build a secure infrastructure and how to deploy policies to protect it. It covers various technologies such as intrusion detections systems and firewalls, and shows how they are to be effectively deployed.

Then advantage of the book is that it has just the right combination of breath and depth. Topics are covered effectively, and the authors do not waste the reader's time by going into obscure security minutiae or academic threats.

Readers looking for an effective guide to fundamental issues involved with information security and Internet security are well advised to read Internet Site Security. Don't design you Internet site without it.

This really is a superb book. The evidence that the authors are hands on types who have implemented what they describe is very apparent, and take it from someone who has been doing security for years, the problems they describe are what you experience in real life. It's a refreshing change from other books which describe the products/technologies as if they were reading a feature list - it's hard to find a book packed with real life experience.

I'd describe it as a 'mid level' book, i.e. if you need detailed knowledge of x509 etc you need a seperate tome - but if you want a fairly detailed overview of the majority of risks affecting your web site, this is the book to choose.

Collaboratively written by Erik Schetina (CTO for TrustWave Corporation), and TrustWave Corporation senior security engineers Ken Green and Jacob Carlson, Internet Site Security is a much-needed and completely "user friendly" instructional guide to implementing solid and reliable security measures for a personal or professional internet site. Individual chapters provide an informationally useful overview of basic types of security, and address specific issues such as network and application protocols (TCP/IP), operating system and server software issues from Windows NT and 2000 to Linux and Unix, Intrusion-Detection Systems, common security mistakes in internet applications, and much, much more. Internet Site Security is a very highly recommended (if not downright indispensable) resource for surviving in today's era of cyber-crime.

This book covers the subject of Internet Security in a comprehensive manner. It contains excellent coverage on modern penetration/exploitation techniques as well as proper forensic procedures. The book shows you how to build a secure infrastructure and how to proactively deploy security policies, something that should be emphasized in every organization. It offers valuable insight on integration of a security infrastructure into an existing enterprise environment, covering both technical and political ramifications. The book discusses in-depth the strengths and weaknesses of various Intrusion Detection Systems and FireWall architectures. It also provides excellent coverage on IPSec and PAM; better than any documents that I have read on the Internet. The book provides both breadth and depth. It is neither a book all about theories and policies nor just another compilation of internet articles and mailing list discussions. Many insight gleaned from the authors' industry experience have shined through this book. It is a worth read even for a senior security engineer.

Using Michael Shapiro's book as a guide, a newcomer to researching travel can click through a website with ease. An interesting new appendix was added on digital photography. Do any of us world travelers leave home without a camera! Of course we love finding a good discount and each chapter lists sites known for the best deals. Travel sales are still down and businesses are reducing prices or adding incentives to get customers. I would highly recommend buying the book for yourself or giving it as a gift for the holidays.

Michael Shapiro's Internet Travel Planner isn't just another listing of Internet sites to be obsolete in a few months time: it provides some important tips linking travel to the Internet, from creating a custom guidebook to using the internet to see pictures of hotel rooms and connect with other travelers through travel chats and forums. And for those worrying about the book's longevity: free updates are offered online!

I found this book to be both informative and useful even though I had already used the internet for travel purposes. My husband found out about free email accounts and signed up for one within a few minutes (Chapter 14). After reading Shapiro's Internet Travel Planner, I realized that by booking airline tickets on line, I had only begun to scratch the surface of the possibilities for travel planning on line. What I found most useful for both `arm chair travel' and trip planning was Shapiro's chapter on discussion forums and bulletin boards. Search engines are great but I find the results to be catch as catch can. In Chapter 13 I got a clear sense of which sites were worth my time. Shapiro covers everything from frequent flyer miles to vacation package sites, from weather to medicine abroad. The book is easy to use-it offers an index and appendices that allow you to find websites quickly. Read this book even if you wouldn't book a flight or make a reservation on line. The web is too great and too vast a resource to skip and you'll be glad you have this guide as you surf.

My favorite thing about this book is this. You've got a specific question on your mind about doing something travel-related on the Net. And then you just look in the table of contents, and I swear, Shapiro has covered it to some extent. Like, a dependable site for car rentals, or where to find opinions and reviews from other travelers, or getting train passes, dealing with frequent flier miles...and lots of other stuff.

This book isn't a list, or directory, of travel Web sites. Shapiro picked Web sites he considers to be the strongest ones for each topic. And he goes into the details of what to expect for each one. This helps you decide which site is best for your particular needs, for instance, whether you're seeking a last minute hotel bargain, a night in a B&B or a homestay.

This also means that he's willing to be critical. For example, right now Priceline is quite the rage. In the budget travel section he describes how to get the most out of it while also going over the unsexy fine print... that you can't pick an exact flight time, tickets are non-refundable and you don't earn frequent flier mileage. I don't know about you, but that's the info that nobody ever tells me.

A bonus is the First Person section of various chapters. Basically, Shapiro includes interviews, emails and other stories from folks who've used specific sites. You get to see what worked, what didn't and why -- all with opinions.

Hey all you AOL users: Shapiro's got you covered. In many sections he includes a blip, customized to you, that goes over how you use certain sites specifically on AOL.

I'd say that Internet Travel Planner is especially friendly for someone new to the Net. However, it's also helpful for folks who already know Web travel. I know a decent amount about various travel Web sites, yet I find that Shapiro highlights certain features I didn't realize existed in sites I thought I knew well. And on top of it all, you get some non-Net travel advice, like seven tips for finding cheap airline flights. The stuff you'd otherwise have to find out the hard way.

On top of it all, if you have questions or comments, he leaves his email in the introduction for you to contact him. Now that's service.

Although it does not address routing protocals,it covers everything else.

Was able to locate the answers for all 31 questions presented on Cisco's web site for the CIT 4.0 exam. Exam4.0 is required when preparing for the CCNP. Written clear, concise and to the point. (no fluff included)

I am currently studying for my last CCNP exam : support.

I find this book a great complement of CIT.

There is an error in book description : it is 1025 pages (not 714, which should be the size of the paperback edition), so it is much more complete than the online version on CCO.

I reccomend it in addition to CIT for passing support.

Note : I passed the 3 previous ccnp exams first try by using cisco ccnp course books.

The step-by-step presentation approach to this book is a very effective way to help the technician isolate Cisco related network problems. It also provides valuable information about specific protocols and topologies.

While this may not TEACH you how to troubleshoot a network (get Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting for that), this book is good since it provides details relating to error messages etc and also in-depth explanation of numerous messages that you are likely to encounter in yr Cisco powered Network. Use it as a handy reference

If you are as new to the computer world and online investing as I am, then reading this little "Blue Book" is just the tool for you. It will take you through the entire process from useful internet terms to buying and selling securities on the internet. It's amazing how much information is compressed in that little "Blue Book". A must-have book for beginners.

I loved this book. Not only is its information concise and pertinent, but its illustrations make it a feast for the eyes. Its numerous lists of Web-sights are practical and resourceful, its information is up-to-date, and even for the computer-savvvy Investor, its helpful tips and hints are a time-saver. Plus, since its format is that of a 'guidebook' , its very handy to carry around or to pass to a friend. And I liked the fact that the book is durable and artistic; two features that make the book a keeper and/or a great gift. I'd recommend this book for anyone who is interested in looking into the opportunities of investing on-line seriously.

Investbeyond.com is a very useful book, in that it tells the reader what to do, and maybe even more important, what NOT to do in today's investing. It has some pithy comments about over-confidence, and other maladies that investors may be subject to, especially in the recent go-go times, which may (or may not) be over. The information is presented clearly, in an interesting fashion. It defines some terms that we often hear, and may not understand. Read it -- and profit!

If you want to learn the basics of IPv6 and its peripheral routing and transition protocols, there are a number of good books on the market. But what if you're a software coder needing to work with IPv6, or want to understand its implementation in intimate detail?

For this, there is only one choice: The two-volume set by Qing Li, Tatuya Jinmei, and Keiichi Shima. These are the IPv6 equivalent of Steven's TCP/IP Illustrated and Comer's Internetworking with TCP/IP, books that should be on every networking professional's bookshelf. Like the multi-volume Stevens and Comer books, these books go deep into the functional structures of an IPv6 implementation--in this case the KAME implementation for BSD.

The first volume, IPv6 Core Protocols Implementation, starts off with an overview of the KAME IPv6 distribution for BSD and how to build a KAME-enabled kernel; in little more than a dozen pages the book takes you directly into the code structure. From there the remainder of the book leads you through the core protocols from basic address architecture to ICMPv6 and Neighbor Discovery Protocol to the intricacies of IPv6 at the transport layer and socket API extensions.

The second volume, IPv6 Advanced Protocols Implementation, covers IPv6 routing protocols (through route6d), IPv6 multicast, DNS, and DHCPv6. The last two chapters of the book delve into Mobile IPv6 and the basics of IPv6 security.

While these books are a deep-dive into the code, they don't assume you know IPv6; each chapter covers the basics of its topic before getting into the coding. So whether you are a coder needing to learn IPv6, a network architect wanting to know the IPv6 protocols more intimately, or just want a solid reference on your bookshelf for those times when the RFCs and general configuration guides just aren't enough to troubleshoot an IPv6 problem, I highly recommend these books. There are no others to compare.

The first volume covered the core protocols, but what's a network without routing, mobility and security? The second volume covers the rest of the story of IPv6, how it works, and how it's implemented. This book covers the routing code in IPv6, as well as important network services such as DHCPv6,
DNS. A large section on mobility describes what is likely one of the most exciting aspects of an IPv6 Internet, the ability to connect wherever you are, seamlessly. No networking book is complete without information on security, especially important in a global Internet, and the last section of this book covers how security is provided at multiple layers within the IPv6 protocols.

Written by the same writing team as the first volume, this second volume finishes the series in the same, easy to read, easy to comprehend, style.

After reading the first book in the series, I had high expectations for the second book. And this book definitely delivers beyond my expectations. This book builds on top of the basic IPv6 networking knowledge from book 1, and explain in details how it affects the various advanced protocols that build on top of IPv6, including all the nitty-grittys of protocols with corresdponding source code. A developer who is already familiar with IPv6 and want to work on certain protocol or protocols may jump right into a chapter and go through the details. And if you are a developer who is planning on working on a IPv6 project or is currently learning IPv6, will definitely find it useful going through the whole book quickly and come back to any chapter or protocol of interest later. All in all, this is an excellent reference book that I would recommend to all network developers.

This second volume on IPv6 and the KAME implementation advances the readers
to new chanllenging protocols including DNS, DHCPv6, Mobile IPv6, IPv6
routing protocols, Multicasting in IPv6 and Security. This book offers expert
instructions on these advanced IPv6 protocols and the corresponding KAME
implementation through detailed protocol discussion and intensive code
walkthrough. As the core KAME developer, I highly recommend this book to all
IPv6 developers as the must-have IPv6 network programming reference.

IPv6 Advanced Protocols Implementations provides the advanced next level core networking functions, applications, and technology that extends the use of IPv6 to support Routing, Multicasting, Domain Name System, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, Mobile IPv6, and Security. The authors identify each of the aforementioned technology components and provide an in-depth analysis, operational, and implementation view of these functions and applications. The authors also provide the differences at key points in the discussions with the current Internet Model and the advantages of IPv6. These are very hard technology components to present with clarity and the authors did that and in a concise manner. This book would be of value to architects, programmers, operators, and technologists that will deploy IPv6 and a good companion book to the authors IPv6 Core Protocols Implementation book.[...].

I admit I agreed to review this book with at least a tad of trepidation, not only because I'm now barely entering the second half of the 20th Century as far as technology, but also because I've always secretly nurtured a philosophical resistance to any form of human interaction that smacked of science fiction. For me this category included cloning, telepathic sex, and computer dating.

So for two weeks I pretended not to notice this manuscript to which I'd committed myself, lying there among my gardening books on the bedside table. But finally I bit the bullet and opened to the Table of Contents. I became immediately, astoundingly engaged. Those clever chapter titles! "Oedipus Seeks Older Woman," for starters. Wow. This was not your typical book about love on the Internet. I tell you it was a page turner -- a finely researched, entertaining and convincing argument in favor of computer dating.

The authors are themselves persuasive examples of the validity of the much maligned phenomenon of cyberlove, having met through the Internet personals when Kenneth was living in San Francisco and Beverly in Tennessee. As if the glow of their personal relationship is not testimony enough (they could be the happiest couple I've met), their book includes perceptive recollections from other intelligent folks who found their own soulmates in cyberspace.

It includes interviews with owners of reputable online dating services, offers advice on how to choose an appropriate matchmaking service, and provides tips on writing effective personal profiles. The book outlines precautions taken by dating services to protect the privacy of their clients, and guidelines to attracting sincere people.

But it's not as simplistic or one-sided as that. The pitfalls are investigated and unsuccessful attempts examined. Participants describe their first-hand experiences with online dating. The characters are familiar and human, with all the usual flaws and fears we recognize (embracingly or otherwise) as our own. It's a page turner, I tell you. It's drama.

The Appels have written a fascinating book about love and human contact on the Internet personals. This is not about the flirtations of the chat rooms. This is about a serious presentation of self in which a person says this is who I am, this is what I stand for, this is the way I lead my life, this is my passion and spirituality, and this is what I want from another human being. I was astonished by the wisdom of this book. I love the human speech contained in it. The Appels believe that in time millions of people will use the Internet personals and meet their beloved in this fashion. This notion astonished me.

It Takes Two.Com should certainly be a prerequisite for anyone placing or responding to an ad on an Internet personals site. The many stories shared by people who have used the personals demonstrate how we must know and love ourselves--our games, our illusions, our fears, our desires, our dreams--so that we may more fully experience genuine love with another. These stories validate that there are unseen forces ever present guiding us, and that LOVE is really all there is, even when brought and given to us via the Internet. Sharing the strength and hope from first-hand accounts is a very powerful learning tool for those willing to have an open mind and heart. The authors' descriptions and explanations of what composes the essence of a person, how our persona/archetypes are lived out in our lives, and how these then come to dictate who we meet when it becomes our written ad or email is right on! Even the stories of fantasy, constant courtship, married and flirting, and disappointment can teach us. For the reader who is willing, the catalyst is there to help see how our superficial actions are not conducive to an intimate, trusting, accepting, committed relationship--if that is what we truly desire. Of course, to have faith and be open to accept and recognize our destiny when it meets us face to face is also required.

The authors are both psychotherapists who came together via the Internet. Their online love story is transcendent, inspirational, and, yes, even magical. The Appels' book is most noteworthy for its emphasis on the powerful aura of spirituality which is evident when soulmates connect. There's no way to predict it. If there were a way to manufacture it, I'm sure it would sell better than Viagra. In 1979, psychologist Dorothy Tennov coined a term by calling this attraction limerence. In her book, Love and Limerance: The Experience of Being in Love, she speaks of this soul-to-soul connection and how it can enter one's life. Suddenly a stranger is known. Not only does the Appels' work reflect this wonderful state, but it permeates their romance and that of the couples who were also blessed in discovering their spiritual partners online. It Takes Two.Com is a book about spirituality, persistence, hope, faith, and the uniquely human need to be loved. Thanks to reading their book I am better able to recognize when a person I am corresponding with online is sincere about wanting an enduring relationship; able to identify those who are simply looking for someone to play a role in their fantasies; and how to spot those who prey on the unwary. I was one of a 1000 research volunteers who participated in the Appels' study prior to the release of their book. Although I have yet to meet my soulmate, I believe it will happen. And thanks to Beverly and Kenneth, I'll know and see him before I meet him.

When I was searching for a book of information about online dating, I bought four books from Amazon. Three of these were silly and superficial in their approach. IT TAKES TWO.COM was strikingly different. Not only do the authors have the first-hand experience of meeting online themselves, but also in helping people resolve relationship problems. What I really enjoyed about this book were the many specific examples and directions for how to be successful online, and how to learn more about yourself in the process. Through accounts from people who have lost as well as won online, the authors explain ways to protect yourself as well as avoid hurting others on the way to finding a partner. IT TAKES TWO.COM was a very meaningful book to me personally, and I'm sure it will help many people in their online search.

This book is a treasure. If you want to really become seriously familiar with Java details, then get this book!

For the Java generalist who is serious about knowing the details of the language, I'd say there are three books that stand out from the crowd: to learn Java, read The Java Programming Language, by Gosling, et al; to thoroughly understand every nuance of the lanaguage, read The Java Language Specification, available at the Java website or in printed form; and while you're somewhere between learning and mastering the language, read Java Rules.

Java Rules methodically steps you through every aspect of the core language, referring to the specification here, a comment from Bloch or some other Java luminary there. If you're looking for an introdution to Java, this book is not for you. If you've been writing Java code for awhile and ask questions like, "I wonder how the floating point types *really* work?", then this book is absolutely for you.

In addition to the core language and a few fundamental types like String and Date, the author does go into a good deal of detail when discussing the collections framework, and his treatment of the subject is as good as any I've seen.

I hope this book catches on, it certainly deserves to.

The author has taken the Java Language Specification and other sources and organized, expanded on, and refined them in a such a way that it becomes a much easier task for any Java programmer to learn about all the nitty gritty details of Java. This is without a doubt the best book I've seen on explaining the intricacies of Java. It is obvious that the author has spent a great deal of time and effort to produce a book as well written this one. Highly recommended to anyone seriously interested in learning Java at a deeper level.

Great book! The level of detail is fantastic. The only complaint I have is the scope. The cover mentions other "volumes" but there is nothing about their availability either in the book or on the Addison-Wesley site.
