I just bought this book, and I absolutel LOVE it! As a fellow writer of child Pagan books and newsletters, I am always on the look-out for other material to add to my library. I look forward to the day when our child Witches have as many options available to them, in both fiction and non, as their mundane counterparts. This book is perfect for our youngest Pagans who are learning their ABC's and for their parents who wish for them to have a book that celebrates their heritage! LOVE IT!

I bought this book for my daughter when she was about six months old. She's had access to it since she was about nine months. From the beginning, it's been her favorite book. She loves looking at the pictures and enjoys having it read to her over and over.

I would highly recommend this book to any pagan parent and will purchase more in the future as gifts.

This is a beautiful book...the images in it are rich and colorful...my 2 year old daughter sees the people celebrating the old ways and as she points to images she says "mommy..daddy...ya ya...me!" She sees her own life illustrated in it. She insists I read this to her several times. I have searched and searched for other books appropriate for her age group...but none seem to exist! I hope the author writes a few more--and fast, before my daughter grows up and has trouble connecting to the magick! This is a perfect primer to start your child in a beautiful religion.

If you ever want a book that helps your child learn their ABC's the pagan way, then this is the book for you. I have 3 boys and they're always fighting over on who's going to read it next. Its the most awesome way to teach your child their ABC's.

Great read for children, including infants!

This book has such rich and colorful illustration it will keep your child fixed on the pages. Every page has a letter and the first two rhyme then the next two, etc. (For example... "E starts out East for the element of air. F begins Fall, Mabon's Equinox affair.")

It is very easy to read and follow. The theme is general Paganism, mentioning the 8 Sabbats, God/ Goddess, karma, and things most Pagans do such as ritual.

My son is 9 months old and he loves looking at the pictures and is fully engaged when I read it! So I would suggest perhaps the recommended ages could be from infant up until about 7 or so. It's definitely worth adding to your library!

This book is a must read for any young child- even an infant. The black and white pencil drawings are intricate and soft, and though my son is older, he was drawn right into the illustrations. The copy that we checked out came with an audiotape, with accompanying music which is printed in the book on the last page, with the words. The book itself it very rhythmical and lends itself to be sung by a child even without the music. I found a few grammatical (punctuation) errors (Scholastic 1990 edition), which tripped me up as I read along, but not having another printing to compare to, I didn't let that determine the star quality of this book. I can almost remember it being read to me as a child, and I would read it to anyone who would sit and listen.

What a lovely book for young children. ABC Bunny creatively displays the alphabet in story form. In the little bunny's many encounters with other critters it lays the groundwork for a great nature study. There is a cute little song for children who like to sing as well as be read to! The illustrations are enticing and full of action. Written in a very original way to introduce the alphabet to young children, I hope that this book will soon be back in print so that we can continue to share it with others.

The House of Mouse finally meets a master movable book artist and the results are more dazzling than the Electric Parade along Main Street -- or even more spectacular than a synchronized fireworks display in the Orlando, Florida skies. What could have been a run-of-the-mill volume if executed by someone else, Robert Sabuda's latest masterpiece celebrates over 60 years of movie magic with paper, paint and a passion for cutting and folding. Instead of simply replicating the characters and making them move, Mr. Sabuda infuses them with his unique style and sense of humor. (See Pinocchio get cross-eyed as he watches his own nose grow longer! Gepetto would have been proud.) Julie Taymor (surprisingly with the blessings of the formula-bound Disney folks) impressed the critics and the crowds with "The Lion King" on Broadway. Now, Mr. Sabuda likewise has proven to our pop-up publishing planet that creativity and commerce need not be exclusive of each other. Bravo, Robert! (But where is Sebastian? I can't wait for the sequel. A is for Aladdin, B is for Belle, C is for Chip...) Adults will love this book both because it will remind them of the many characters with whom they grew up, and for the incredible science of Robert Sabuda's "paper engineering".Children will delight in the wonder of the "pop up". Not only do they love the recent and classic Disney characters, but thrill to know that they can identify the first letters of those characters' names!

I believe this book is a large step in the right direction for educating the world on Down syndrome, and realizing just how beautiful these children are. My grandson is the first Down's child to ever go through our regular school system and is doing great. You will notice in the book that there are twin combinations, where one twin has Down syndrome and the other doesn't, and there are regular children with the Down's children. All these children are from New York State but various parts of the state, there are a variety of ethnic groups. This book tells a whole other story then just a child learning their ABCs. There is another whole lesson here to be learned. You don't have to have a child with Down's syndrome for your child to get something from this book. Our moto is: They are a child first and Down's second. Another words a CHILD with Down's syndrome, not a DOWN syndrome child. I am very pleased with the positive responses this book is receiving. God bless each and everyone of you who purchased this book. My grandson also thanks you.

Many children's ABC books are so crowded with images that it is easy for kids to miss the main point, i.e., A=Apple. This is a very clear book with great photographs! Most young kids enjoy photos of other children, and this would be a great way to introduce all children to diversity...and disability as a type of diversity to be embraced and not feared.

This is a wonderful ABC book. Each letter has a full page photograph showing a child with Down syndrome in an activity with an object corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. The letter "D" for example, has a young boy with Down syndrome and a dog. The pictures are very colorful and clear. The children are beautiful models. This is a fun book and I highly recommend it. If only they made a hard board edition for little children...

Why Anarchism?

Review Date: 2007-04-23
Berkman, in a style reminiscent of Socrates in Plato's Dialogues, delivers an outstanding introduction to Anarchism. His work forms a succession of arguments against capitalism and for anarchism which build, one upon another, into devastating condemnation of the former and a convincing call for the latter. "The ABC of Anarchism" is written for the common man. It is a primer intended specifically for those for whom anarchism is a foreign concept. Nevertheless, old anarchists will enjoy this work as much as those new to anarchism. It is well written and, for the most part, logically solid. If I were to recommend one and only one introduction to anarchism, Berkman's present work would be my choice.

I found this book to be a clear exposition of the main tenets of libertarian socialism. The theory outlined is particularly strong in its critical elements, which comprise the first and second parts of the book. The firsts and second parts of the book deal with Berkman's critique of industrial capitalism, and provide a framework for understanding the motives behind political discourse in such a system. The framework is familiar, for those who have read Marx or Bakunin.

The book is somewhat weaker in its attempt at outlining a thorough-going positive theory of society organized under workers' councils, absent a legal framework for dispute resolution and protection of rights. Instead of a positive theory of law, Berkman interposes a, frankly, underdeveloped and, at times, naive theory that sees all disputes in a modern industrial society as the product of the distortions of human nature that naturally result in capitalist systems.

Berkman seems to believe that no similar disputes would exist in a society that is more humanely and rationally organized. However, he fails to outline what new problems might arise in an council-socialist system, and how those problems might be handled in this radically different type of society. Although such a theory may exist, Berkman fails to provide it. He also fails to provide convincing reasons why those rights we intuitively understand as "basic human rights," would be upheld in the face of, and in opposition to, the interest of the workers' councils. I was left with reservations, also, regarding the efficiency of the type of council socialism that Berkman supports.

This is, however, an excellent introduction to libertarian socialism. The questions it raises are ones that we would all do well to wrangle with, whether or not we subscribe to the underlying theory. What is more, any purely capitalist theory, it seems to me, must acknowledge, and ultimately answer, Berkman's timeles criticique.

straight-up common sense about society and revolution

anyone interested in social revolution should read this book. the wisdom presented here is beautiful and simple. it represents my deepest hope for humanity. let us realize that while we struggle for a free society, we begin to lose our chains as soon as we stand up. it is the act of defiance, of rebellion, which transforms us from victims into human beings. there is no meaningful struggle for social change which does not involve that exquisite moment of tense confrontation with authority. if you want to change society, you must stop obeying, and if you are only fighting for someone else's freedom, you are blind to the walls around you. peace.

Communist Anarchism from Berkman

Review Date: 2003-05-23
This is the book that transformed me into a communist anarchist. It led me to other, more complex readings, etc. Berkman is one of the most inspired men to ever live, he tried to kill Henry Clay Fricke (which broke the resistance to the workers' demands). He spent 14 years in prison for that. He was deported from many countries, sentenced to death in some. This book tears the curtain away from your face which covers your view of the authoritative nature of capitalism and state communism.

Communist Anarchism is freedom
Anything else is just slavery.

This book teaches owners how to train in a positive manner. The instructions and theories are easy to understand, and most importantly effective.
Basic obedience, positive training theory, problem solving (jumping, digging etc.), off leash obedience and basic obedience are all covered in this book.
I train service dogs and for basic obedience and leash training I use the methods and theories in this book. I can't say enough good things about it. :)

Very good learning theory info, but a little lacking in practical.

I really liked this book, especially the clear discussions about learning theory, using both positives and aversives correctly. How to teach most basic manners skills. I was, however, surprised by the omission of teaching a dog not to pull on leash! This is one of the most common complaints of dog owners, yet it is not covered in this book. Other than that, great stuff.

I am a new dog owner and have been looking for a book to help me train my new dog.

After searching and reading reviews here on amazon I ordered a few books. It happened to be during the holidays so I still don't have them (that's another story). However, in the mean time, I found a used copy of this book at a local used book store. I have to say I am very pleased with it.

If you read the reviews of the popular basic dog training books here on Amazon you can be really confused about what to do. Does pack theory work? Is there a dominance hierarchy? Are choke chains cruel? Can positive reinforcement alone work? What should I be expecting of my dog? Lots of questions and recommendations that seem at odds with one another.

The author of this book cuts through a lot of that and really makes a lot of sense. Further, he gives practical, step by step advice on how to handle problems and do very basic dog training. Actual things you can use to make a difference to your dog. After reading about half of his book I was immediately able to make use of his recommendations and techniques and my dog responded. Obviously there is no magic, it will take work on my part, but I could see improvement right away.

Further he lays out some things that seem pretty basic in hind site, but I as a new dog owner didn't realize. Important things, like don't let your dog play with cloth toys and then expect your dog not to think every cloth thing (like a sock) is a toy.

He talks about different collars to use during training, on leash v. off leash training, good and bad toys, good and bad trainers. He spends a good deal of time teaching you how your dog learns and how any training is making use of those basic concepts. He also makes sure you understand that if you own a dog, all your interaction with it is "dog training" and that you may very well be teaching the dog things you had no idea you were teaching him good and bad (usually bad).

His focus is always on praise and reward, but understands that actual correction is appropriate as well when done properly, however none of the specific instructions he offers that I have read so far ever include any kind of physical correction, it is always things like withdrawing attention, stern commands, a cross look.

He offers practical steps for what he calls foundation training, come, sit, stay, which to a new dog owner like myself is really important.

Anyway, after only reading half the book and only using its advice for about 3 days I have to say I am 100% happy with this book.

Leona Hamel, also known as LouLou L'Amour, has more than 20 years experience in business and dealing with matters of the heart. She created Romance Unlimited, a division of LDL Enterprises Inc. and titles herself as Romance Agent. Leona's book, "The ABC's of Tease and Please" is a lighthearted book meant to be shared with the person you love. Leona is passionate about human connection and her greatest desire is to have men and women discover the most remarkable relationship they can have with one another. She is a hopeless romantic and is reunited with her childhood sweetheart, Sylvain. How romantic!

"The ABC's of Tease and Please" is a romance handbook that would make a great gift on Valentine's Day or as an anniversary or wedding gift. A page at the front of the book offers a spot for one to sign the book over to the gift recipient. Leona's book often reads like a recipe booklet, offering a smorgasbord of romantic gestures and getting started off with an appetizer. We are offered a Recipe for Romance and LouLou's Love Loaf. In Leona's words, she says she offers a myriad of romantic gestures to help inspire you with creating your own personal expression of love.

Leona's suggestions can give couples some important relationship tips. We are reminded that any relationship can never have too much romance. "Learn what truly matters and never take each other for granted", says LouLou.

Through the 125 pages of her book, LouLou offers catchy titles for each romance tip and cute drawings of full-page graphics depicting the tip in use. Tease and Please is a book of suggestions to initiate romance, which may be done by either sex, LouLou is quick to point out.

I personally found "The ABC's of Tease and Please" to be a fun read, but some of her suggestions were a little risqué for my taste. Some tips will definitely take advance planning and may be a bit too pricey for most. And some ideas may be just a bit far-fetched also, but this book is meant to be a little fun and daring. However, most of her ideas are very do-able, and most are inexpensive. My favorite tip by LouLou involved baking chocolate chip cookies. She also tells us to always greet our sweetheart with a minimum ten second kiss, longer if needed.

LouLou tells us to celebrate our relationship and show appreciation for one another. Be passionately committed. Make it a priority to connect with your sweetheart each day. Be there for each other and know what is truly important to your mate. Don't take each other for granted and be the best partner you can be. Be assured that a warm and loving embrace, a special "I'm thinking of you!" note, a whispered "I love you" in the ear - may only take a moment to complete but will mean so much in the heart of your partner.

You know how sometimes you put $15 on the counter to buy a CD and it turns out to be a disappointment? That was money spent (perhaps even wasted). I could have asked you the same question about a movie or a book that you pay for and it turns into an expense, not an investment. Well, this book is NOT like that at all. If you buy it (DO), and if you read it (I was going to say savor it...) and if you and your significant other put most (why not all?) of the suggestions in there into practice, I guarantee this will be money well invested. How else would you describe it when you get hours and hours...and hours of fun for $10.95?

"The ABCs of Human Behavior: Behavior Principles for the Practicing Clinician" is a guidebook for those who want to embark on the monumental task of trying to understand why mankind does the things it does. Any professional or student in the field of psychology or mental health will find this book extremely valuable. In this volume the authors give a precise, accessible and entertaining introduction to the theory and principles of behaviorally oriented psychological treatment, including a contemporary account on human language and cognition. What is most important, it introduces the philosophical approach known as functional contextualism. From this perspective, science and theory is behavior that is selected by an enviroment based on its usefulness in relation to predefined goals. The authors words in this text will no doubt elicit and help organize much behavior that will be in the service of many human beings.

I was extraordinarily impressed with this book. As a Psychology professor who greatly values a solid understanding of behavioral principles for my clinical graduate students, I've been unable to find a primary text that conveys them in a succint and relevant fashion. Existing books on applied behavior analysis contain too much material that is irrelevant to clinical behavior therapy, go into too much detail for my already overworked students, and fail to provide clearly relevant clinical examples of these principles' applications. This book changes all that with one fell swoop. I'll be regularly assigning it in my graduate psychotherapy class, and would readily recommend it to any psychotherapist wanting to get vertical on the relevance of behavioral principles to therapy.

This is a book that I took to my heart, and will probably use many years yet to come. I can see myself re-read it and to sometimes read parts again and again. I think this book will become a contemporary classic. It is an excellent introduction to behavioral therapy with a language allowing me to easily grasp and understand the different aspects of the theory and how it works. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to know and learn about behavioral therapy.

This book is a wonderful introduction to behavioural therapy. It is useful for both clinicians working with psychotherapy and students. The book is worth reading more than once. You will find it very easy to read and I only heard positive comments from students and clinicians that read it. In the book you find lots of clinical examples. The book presents both classical principals for behavioural therapy and newer train of thoughts especially concerning human language and cognitions. This book is one of my favourite books in the therapeutic field.

What a wonderful little ode to self-acceptance and motivation! Like a skilled quilter, Riva Greenberg has somehow managed to patch together poetry, self-help, and diabetes advice into an irresistible pattern. Some may find it sappy and old-fashioned, but isn't that exactly the charm of a well-made quilt? This book will refresh your diabetic spirit.

Why I wrote this book

I hope this book finds its way into your hands if you are struggling with your diabetes or just need a boost now and then. This book introduces a new approach to diabetes management - it coaches you to improve your management through using your own positive emotions. I know the power of this approach from my own personal experience and coaching others. I wrote this book because I wish you to have the life that you deserve, fun, full and rich, even with diabetes, and I know that you can. From each book sold a significant contribution will be donated to Diabetes Research Institute, a world-leading cure-focused institute seeking a cure for diabetes. That is why this book costs what it does.

I have learned a lot through the years about how to manage my diabetes: what to eat, the importance of exercise, carb-counting, checking my blood sugars, but that all felt like work. Lots of work. Today I still do these things of course, but I do them with a profoundly different attitude; rather than seeing them as work I focus on what they give me - energy, strength, good health, the rewards of how brave and powerful I am and pride in meeting the demands of diabetes, face-to-face day after day, joyfully.

I have learned to be patient, kind and forgiving with myself and manage my diabetes from a place of love, courage, kindness and appreciation for all my blessings. By focusing on these emotions, they grow in your life and you end up infusing your day with greater happiness. When the quality of your day changes, your life changes.

I wrote this book for my fellow diabetics and for health care providers, so that they will better understand, coach and counsel patients. Here are some comments from diabetes educators who have read the book, "It was magical to read "The ABCs," it brought tears to my eyes so many times! I will be recommending this book to so many of my patients with diabetes - young, old, parents and fellow professionals." Another, "What a delightful book. I enjoyed all of it and found gems of insight, observation and wisdom for people to consider, savor, and act on. Reading this book is a bit like taking small, regular doses of healing and inspiration." And finally, "At my work I see mostly type 2 patients. When they hear their diagnose I give them education about lifestyle, medication, teach them to control their blood sugar and to inject insulin. We also talk about the emotional side of diabetes, but now that I am reading your book I know it is not as much as it should be. Diabetes is much more than the blood sugars, blood pressures and weight control. My colleagues also want to read your book. I hope we will all use your vision and tools to help our patients."

These words are my gift. I hope you give yourself the gift of better management through your own positive emotions as this book will coach you to do. I wrote this book so that you can live happier and healthier - and create the life you want - not despite diabetes, but because of diabetes. That's my wish for you.

Often times those of us with diabetes follow the rules of good diabetes care all the while gritting our teeth. We often put managing the disease before "loving" ourselves and become angry, stressed, and a real pain to others and to ourselves. Riva's book reminds us that we came first and that managing this disease should not crowd out the joy of living. Her warm and inviting illustrations bring a smile to the face and joy to the heart. Thank you, Riva

This is the kind of book you leave near your bedside or in the kitchen close to the "hub" of family life. Whenever you may feel stumped or irritated or just down right drained, this is the kind of book that will give you just the right words to keep you inspired. Quick, enlightening passages that give you an instant reminder of what your goals are. Also, a good reminder that life, especially family life, is fleeting and should be held in the highest regard. Great read and re-read!
