ABC Books

I love this book, it is our second due to binder of 1st one breaking because of our excessive reading of it. My son loves all of the pictures and I love it because it allows him to expand his vocabulary, sharpens his memory, and learn his ABC's. I would highly recommend this book to any parent with a child over the age of 1 year of age. The pages are simple enough to have it before the age of one, but I love to challenge my son and have him interact with me while reading as opposed to me just reading a book. Enjoy.

The best of the book is that was written for a family members who have first hand experience in the field of beekeeping.

When I read this book I knew I must have a copy! I have a 9 year old and a 15 year old and I wanted both of them to have a copy. Maybe even one for me! Patrick Kilbane has God given insight into positive thinking! He has packed so many values into such a simple little book. It is a must for every age!

ABC Art Riddles isn't an ordinary ABC book; each page gives a rhyming riddle, the answer to which is a word with most of its letters left as blank spaces. Kids will enjoy solving the riddles, each of which connects to art. The simple color illustrations also offer clues to the riddle's solution, simulating young minds and vocabularies. For example, the entry for Q is "_ q _ _ _ _: Q in the second letter in my name. / There are five more letters, none are the same. / Four right angles are part of me. / I am a shape you often see. / My sides are equal, always straight. / What's my name? Don't hesitate", and the illustration shows six brightly colored squares. A wonderful exercise in both reading and the imagination. Also highly recommended is ABC Math Riddles (0939217570, $13.95).

Our family (husband, wife and two children ages 3 and 6) visited Atlantic City this past weekend and used ABC Atlantic City to discover things we never knew existed in Atlantic City. The book was really great for the kids. Our 3 year old loved the colorful pages and letters (especially because she is always singing the alphabet song) and our 6 year old was able to read the factoids on each page and loved having her own travel guide.

As a big fan of woodcuts, I fell in love with this book immediately. The simple, bold shapes and minimal use of color are wonderful. The book was originally created in 1923 by muralist C.B. Falls for his children. He went on to illustrate several other beloved children's stories.

If you enjoy Eric Sloane's illustrations, you will want this book. Many of the items illustrated in this book have appeared elsewhere in Eric Sloane's books. But this book is comprised exclusively of illustrations with short captions to provide the necessary information. It would be a nice way to introduce young readers to Sloane's work.

Noted artist Eric Sloane presents a rich and varied collection of American first from the saltbox house to the basketball, hex signs to ear trumpets, popcorn to rocking chairs. Delightful words and even more delightful inventions, these curiosities and many others are vanishing antiquities of our country's past of which few Americans are aware.

This is just the sweetest book. My daughter received it when she was a toddler (she is 15 now!) and I have such precious memories of reading it to her and her "reading" it to me (based on the illustrations and her memory!). I was recently asked to bring a special book to a baby shower, I thought of this one immediately. The illustrations are precious and the descriptions of the emotions are great for little ones.

This "book" is great for learning your ABC's, but what kids just adore is the way the boxes FLY out of the box when you open it. It's surprisingly durable. The down side is that an adult has to flatten all the blocks and put them back over and over and over ... kids never tire of watching those blocks fly through the air!
