it takes you an a journey to finding your business identity. I appreciate this book for that. It gives it to you straight up. The author has done a fabulous job at keeping close to the title of this book. I felt the book was a bit long for my taste, but it still is a phenomenal book that will provide Christians with a biblical base to their business ventures. I was blessed by this book.

At some point in every kid's life, someone should give this book as a present.

The artwork is exquisite -- and charming -- and funny -- and well dressed too!!!

The text is poetry that flows as easily as one of those jingles you can't get out of your head.

It's an equally great book for any adult with a sense of whimsey.

Jerry Pallotta, a.k.a. "The Alphabet Man," has once again written an entertaining book for children. Coupled with Biedrzycki's illustrations, "The Boat Alphabet Book" is one of Charlesbridge's best offerings. This book is a must for any student (or teacher) studying water travel.

I purchased this boat book for my nephew based on how the book was rated age wise, which was for 4 to 8 year old children. This book is packed with so much wonderful knowledge on different kinds of boats! I just, believe that a 6 year old would get so more out of the book. This book could be used for younger boat lovers if you just read the why type of boat it is and move on, I don't really see my nephew sitting down and paying attention. Plus most are boats he's not familiar with or would ever see here in Florida. The art work is well done and looks very realistic.

Here is a list of the boats featured in this book.
A - Aircraft Carrier
B - Barkentine ( tall ship)
C - Canoe
D - Dory
E - Electric boat ( submarine)
F - Ferry
G - Gondola
H - Hydrofoil
I - Icebreaker
J - Junk ( Chinese Junk boat)
K - Kayak
L- Lightship
M - Minesweeper
N - Nao (possible Spanish word for boat, no one knows for sure)
O - Ocean Liner
P- Paddleboat
Q- Quffa (basket boat found on the Tigris & Euphrates Rivers)
R - Reed Boat
S - Steamboat
T - Tanker
U - Umiak ( a traditional woman's Eskimo boat)
V - Viking Ship
W- Windjammer
X - Xebec ( 3 masted ship)
Y- Yatch
Z - Zodiac

Update on my review: I had to change my prior review because I gave this book to my nephew and he ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! We happened to be at a restaurant for a family breakfast and painted on the wall happened to be a cruise ship( Ocean Liner in the book) we looked at that page and he was absolutely fasinated during the whole breakfast! This will definately be a book he will grow into especially on some of the boats he does not know about. The age range for this book is correctly rated.

From "tots" to "tens", this book's a winner.

This book has brightly colored, interesting illustrations to engage a tiny tot. It is a rhythmic and engaging alphabet book for the slightly older child. And it is a tightly written informational book on boats for the gradeschool age child. A winner that grows along with the youngster. We couldn't resist buying one for both of our grandchildren.

While we don't own a boat, we have been on plenty of them throught the years. This is as close to an "Everything you wanted to teach your young child about boating, but were afraid to ask" primer as you can find. What Bur Bur learns about boating safety will keep anyone (Big people included) safe on the water.

As with the other Bur Bur books, there's a great message. But I would be ruining your self-discovery if I were to tell you what that message was now, wouldn't I?

Buy this and the other Bur Bur books for a special young person (or persons) in your life. They will love them and so will you.

A Caribbean Journey from A to Y (Read and Discover What Happened to the Z) is an ABC picturebook that leads the reader through the Caribbean islands as well as through the alphabet. From Aruba to Trinidad and alligator to yam, A Caribbean Journey from A to Y is filled with fun facts about life, cuisine, fun, and culture in island nations! "What words begin with Z? Zoo begins with Z, but we'd rather use it for zebra. We don't have zebras in the Caribbean (except at the zoo), but that doesn't matter. We will take our Z to Africa, where zebras are really from, and where they still run free." Simple, color illustrations in the style of a child's drawing enliven this wonderfully educational picturebook.

This is an alphabet book for children like no other. The words, carefully chosen, educate children in a way that is not just fun, but entertaining as well. The illustrations jump off the page and makes this book a journey like no other. Surprising, as you can tell from the title, is how Z is used at the end. This book is filled with suspense, history, knowledge and fun. This is a great book to read aloud, in a classroom, on the plane, etc. As a father, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for more than an alphabet book, but a book that will leave the reader wanting to learn more about the caribbean islands and a better understanding about how the caribbean came to be.

Mario Picayo's A Caribbean Journey from A to Y creates a sincere, helpful template for readers as they navigate the Caribbean Islands using the alphabet as their guide from letters A to Y (leaving the reader in suspense wondering where the Z has gone to). Each letter serves as a looking glass into Caribbean culture by representing its rich vegetation, diverse array of animals, and, most importantly the great people that inhabit these islands. While the alphabet guides the reader, Earleen Griswold's illustrations supplement the text with their lush, vivid colors that are diverse as the Caribbean itself. Bright hues of vibrant blues skies, colorful fish, and hot orange suns catch the eyes as well as the imagination. The story supplies the reader with factual and historical insight in addition to instilling a sense of great pride by uniting the Caribbean Islands by way of highlighting their origins to their African roots. I highly recommend this book especially for reading to children. The striking illustrations and enriching text are perfect for showing the little ones. A great read for children and grown-ups alike.

A Child's ABC's of Praise is perfect as a devotional, backseat activity book, or an "about me" book, while still incorporating God into it all. How can you beat that?

I enjoyed how Patti Wiens made God seem more like a perfect best friend than someone who is too holy for any of us to have a casual friendship with. Plus, the interactivity of this book set it apart from all the other children's books about God I've seen. It would make a great gift for the youngster in your life too, so why not get your copy today? You'll be glad you did.

Learning about God and opening doors for bonding

Review Date: 2005-04-29
Working through the alphabet one letter at a time each letter is used to point out one aspect of the nature of God and includes a related Bible verse. For example the letter D is "I praise you because you Deliver". It then provides and opportunity for discussion by asking the question "Have you ever been rescued, or needed someone's help?". The page ends with Matthew 6:13 which says "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one." This is a wonderfully done book that opens the opportunity for discussion between parent and child. As a way to bond deeper with your child while teaching them the nature of God this is one of the best books I have seen. A Child's ABCs of Praise is highly recommended.

Patti Wien's A Child's ABCs Of Praise is a 60-page, 8 1/2" by 11", "family keepsake" book in which children will discover the character of God through the defining of twenty-six descriptive words ranging from All-Ruler and Creator, to Deliverer and Friend. Captivating photographic collages offer imagery that defines the terms and catches the eye. Written by an active participant in children's and women's ministry, A Child's ABCs Of Praise is a deeply spiritual book that skillfully blends learning the alphabet to with learning how to love and praise God. A collection of prayer-starters at the end, such as "Dear Jesus, A rose is beautiful and so is a smile, but I know that You are the most beautiful of all. Amen." is designed to help young folks learn how to talk to God.

This is quite simply put an amazing piece of scholarship that I just happend to pick up at used book store. I am a retired accountant and have never studied such things but was always interested in other cultures and how beliefs are different in different places of the world or in history. I can't tell you that I understand everything in here but this book taught me something important about myself and how I relate to the rest of the world. It's funny how a little book can make such a difference. Actually, the book is not little but it's such an entertaining read for those of us addicted to the History Channel, NPR and documentaries.

This is a very good scholarly collection of articles about death and burial rituals. We ordered this for the library after one of our high school students used it for a report. Her teacher asked us to purchase it.

If your topic is death and burial rituals, look no further. This Berkeley professor collects everything you need in a way that makes sense.

My husband, not involved in the library sciences, thinks it is strange for me to be reading this book at night. I try to read and write about all new purchases for the library.

This book is first rate. A really terrific find from the library that I ended up purchasing on-line for a decent price. Lots of information and it's well organized. You get a good study of comparative religion by way of detailed analysis of cross-cultural and cross-religio burial ritual and ideas about the afterlife. I see that the author has co-authored another book that got a terrific review. I might go ahead and get that too. Of course, it's a specific niche topic and you should share at least a general interest before buying Death and the Afterlife: A Cultural Encyclopedia.

The illustrations are sweet and appeal to young children. ABC's is my favorite in the Learn and Grow series, with 123, by Lisa Ann Marsoli, and Colors, by Andrea Doering tied for second. ABC's is a delightful little book with simple images for easy comprehension. Birth and up.

The job of reviewing movies sounds glamorous and exciting. Everyone would like to have such a "job". Diana Saenger has managed to create a guideline to have such a job, but maintains a truthful and informative offering. Her book gives the reader the necessary tools to develope ones own reviewing career, while letting one know that it is not all fun and games and free movies. She reminds the reader that it is necessary to be consistant and open minded.

I personally had never really thought of becoming a movie reviewer, but with the information simply outlined in EVERYONE WANTS MY JOB! The ABC's of Entertainment Writing I feel that I could do such a job. I like Diana Saenger's style and forthright approach to writing. I think this work is well designed and she has much to offer her reading public. I hope to see more by this author.

By using sample reviews, Saenger emphasizes what is necessary for an outstanding review. Whether used as a basic handbook for the novice, or a reminder for the professional, Saenger's book is a must!

Review Date: 2000-07-15
Chatty and informative, "Everyone Wants My Job" offers helpful tips for breaking into the world of entertainment writing. Professional critic Diana Saenger shares her recipe for success in this competitive field by including such important ingredients as how to analyze films and other venues, the do's and don'ts of interviewing celebrities, techniques for marketing written work, and how to handle rejection. The book's resource bibliography and list of professional organizations are added attractions which should prove useful not only for novices, but also for writers already in the business. Quotes from various stars, directors, and writers illustrate important points and make the book a delight to read. For example, Djimon Honsou ("Amistad")tells the author, "Destiny isn't waiting until something happens to you. To have destiny, you have to get up from the seat of your pants and make it happen." Advising wannabe entertainment writers to adopt this statement as a kind of mantra, Saenger emphasizes the time and effort required to reach this goal. But the rewards involved are also covered thoroughly --- including access to free movies, plays, videos, etc. and the excitement of interviewing celebrities. Thankfully, readers are warned not to quit their day jobs before jumping into a full-time entertainment writing career. "Did you expect to have fun and get rich too?" Saenger asks. Because it's difficult to make a living as a writer, this important advice deserves more attention than it gets here. Still, the author does explain carefully that most writers will have to work without pay for awhile to get started. "Everyone Wants My Job" should be added to reading lists in career counseling courses everywhere. And, for anyone thinking about becoming an entertainment writer, it's a must-read.
