Pete Georgiady's Antique Golf Collectibles Identification & Value Guide is also a specialty collector's reference which might reach well into the sports/golfing area as well: clubs, balls, books, ceramics and memorabilia are all listed and detailed in a guide which packs color photos by Richard Walker with values and surveys of themes. Even comic books which feature golf plots, such as Felix the Cat from the mid-1950s, are included, leaving no topic uncovered.

I am not a black memorabilia collector but I enjoyed this book for its array of historical facts concerning the history of African Americans. Larry Buster wonderfully illustrates this book with over 200 photos. I would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in Black history and collectibles.

Powerful Images and History

Wow! One of the first books that I've found that doesn't talk about Black Memorabilia as commodity but rather as a history. There are no prices guides attached to the pictures. The book is a time line of black history. It's not incredibly detailed but still nonetheless very powerful. The items in this book are photographed beautifully. Lester V. Buster shows wide range of images: slave shackles, dolls (from Mammy to Mr. T), images of blacks in advertising (from derogatory and dehumanizing to that of Black American heroes). This is a very powerful and informative book for anyone, especially historians and collectors.

A great addition to any scrapbooker's collection!
When I first saw this book I was just amazed that I had finally found a book dedicated to vacation scrapbook pages. And after opening it, I was thrilled that it didn't disappoint like so many other scrapbook idea books I've seen in the past. Anyone needing great examples for vacation layouts should definitely pick up this book. While the book doesn't provide much in written tips and ideas it does provide pages upon pages of beautifully designed layouts. These pages will have your creative juices flowing in no time. Happy scrapping!

I was looking for ideas for pages because we are going to do a family reunion at Disney. This is a once in a lifetime event and I wanted to scrap it for the little ones. I took out so many books from the library and pages through dozens of books at the craft store. Then I came accross this gem.

Practically every layout begs to be re-defined for our pages. The book starts out with beach pages and has a particullarly nice "Cousins are Friends" page that will work quite nice for our expented family. The outings section is 90% Disney layouts, including what to do with your Epcot travels and Animal Kingdom. It also has a few Sea World layouts for that side trip. In the outdoor section it has camping pages that work well if you are staying at Ft Wildreness. Also a great spelunking section, which I have never seen before.

While I checked this book out from the library, I now want to buy a copy for my collection as it is a wonderful layout resourse. As a beginner I did not find the very short and basic layout directions to be too difficult. The book names the manufacturer of the items used and probably assumes you will be consulting the various directions or just using your own creativity to alter the layouts.

Betty Boop deserves a book!

For over 70 years, companies have been producing Betty Boop dolls, figurines, cookie jars, pins, keyrings and about everything else you can imagine. Collectors have been busy buying everything from trinkets to limited edition porcelain dolls. At long last, Mr. Ellis has compiled a reference guide that highlights some of these items, detailing their origins and history. A price guideline goes along with the description so collectors have some idea of what a reasonable value is for a particular item. The first reference guide dedicated to the queen of cartoons, an invaluable guide for collectors. The number and quality of the photos is outstanding, even though only about 10-percent of the collectibles on the market are shown in this book.

Awesome Betty Boop finally gets the attention she deserves!

Finally! Someone bright enough to give Betty Boop her due! Mr. Ellis obviously loves his subject, and by showing us how Boop's endearing image has been immortalized through the years, he not only reminds already loyal fans just how special she is, but has also created a tool by which future generations will learn to love her. I can't wait to see Volume 2!!!

A GREAT BOOK FOR A TRUE DODGER OR BASEBALL FAN. I REALLY WONDER WHERE THEY GOT ALL THE WONDERFUL MATRIAL FOR THIS BOOK. A GREAT DISPLAY OF NOSTALGIC MEMEROBILIA FROM THE EARLY DAYS OF THE BELOVED BUMS, TO THE BOYS OF SUMMER, TO THE MOVE TO LA, AND LIFE SINCE THEN. A GREAT JOB. WELL RECOMMENDED.

Great fun, Great memories, Great writing

In a easy going, flowing style, the authors trace the history of the Dodgers from pre-history to around the early 1990's.

I thought that I knew the Dodgers pretty well until I read this book! The photos and memorabilia are just fantastic.

However, I was given pause on the 1950's section. The authors make some statements that are just plain wrong!

The #1 Pacific Coast League team in LA was the Los Angeles Angels NOT the Hollywood Stars. Further, while the Hollywood Stars rented and shared LA's Wrigley field from/with the Angels for a few years but it was NOT their park, it was the Angels.

I was also astounded that the authors failed to point out that Walter O'Malley purchased the LA Angels in 1956 in anticipation of the Dodger's move to LA and then, to add insult to injury, stole the Angels cap logo for the 1958 Dodger AFTER he had moved the club to Spokane, Washington. In doing so he destroyed the PCL's chances of every being merging into MLB - a dream that had lingered since 1902. In a sentence, the man was greedy to the core and didn't give a rip about the fans! It is no wonder he is so despised in Brooklyn to this day.

Despite these small flaws, I believe that you will love this book as much as I did! It is wonderful.

Another lure book, if you like fishing (or even better if you are an addict like me) you will find this book interesting. It will send you to sleep if you don't like fishing or the history associated with the ways and means of catching fish. Like other companion books, these are beautifully presented with nice photo's and informative text. Sorry I haven't done a book review since high school.

Not to be missed.

Any collector interested in antique fishing lures and the history of fishing lure production will find all the answers in Fishing Lure Collectibles, a clear guide to a notoriously difficult collecting hobby focus. Two experts provide clear details in Fishing Lure Collectibles: An Encyclopedia of the Early Years, 1840 to 1940. Each manufacturer's items are surveyed along with history, individuals who purchased patent rights from companies, changes in bait quality and production standards, and more. Not to be missed.

I am very happy with this book and another companion book by the same author. This book is a very useful reference to the range of lures manufactured through recent times. I refer to it all the time when I am buying fishing lures on ebay etc. I can't compare it to other books as these are the only lure collecting books that I own. Great photos too.

Strongly recommended to all collectors of lures, as well as general fishermen

Stupendous

A strange, terrific read. Reminiscent of The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay with its focus on boisterous old New York, dazzling showmanship, and the showman's own personal demons (which often conjure newer, more menacing demons). There's a memorable encounter with Houdini, stage magic that becomes harder and harder to dismiss as mere illusion, a couple of knock-down, drag-out love stories, and so much vivid detail I'd almost have sworn the story wasn't fiction. Robert the Great's apparently tragic tale ends up feeling quietly exhilarating, a kind of lifelong survival story about an angry young man who ultimately turns his whole life into a crazy, thrilling act. Great great great.

Superb!

Tobias Seamon crafts this work into layers of illusions, and he does so with formidable skill. His knowledge and use of history--the events, people, and places--make it increasingly difficult to maintain the belief that Robert is a fictitious character. Somewhere along the way, Robert becomes human and, then, somewhere else along the way, he becomes truly magical. Seamon is a writer of tremendous depth and perception and he takes us on an odyssey that is magical, mythical, and ultimately human. In the end, he reminds us of the magic that can lie behind the pain, the mishaps, and the failings of human flesh, and his novel has my highest recommendation! Interested readers should also purchase Seamon's poetry!!
