I am so excited to see that Mr. Men books are for sale on Amazon. I had several of the books when I was little, and I fondly remember my mom reading the silly stories to me (about 25 years ago). Mr. Forgetful was my favorite. These books are so simple and cute, and I'm thrilled that I can add them to my daughter's collection.

I have had this book since I was a child and I recently found it and read it to my 2 1/2 year old son. He loved it! It has now become his favorite book. I think I can recite the whole thing by heart. I would definately recommend this book to anyone with children or adults too. I am now going to find more Mr. Men books for our collection. They are timeless and someday my son will have them for his kids.

What a fabulous book! I just read it with my eight year old and he loved it and so did I. We just got introduced to the Mr. and Miss books by my son's teacher. We read this together and both laughed. Mr. Forgetful forgets everything. He is walking along when a police officer asks Mr. Forgetful to deliver a message to the farmer saying his cow is in the lane. Poor Mr. Forgetful tries so hard to remember. He walks to the farmer's house repeating to himself, "A cow is in the lane. A cow is in the lane." By the time poor Mr. Forgetful talks to the farmer, all he can remember is, "A goose is in the rain." It's a fun, light hearted book. Read them all. The adults like them too.

The book is very clearly written with good explanations and application to real world situations. I especially find the instructions about how to use the TI-83 and MS Excel very helpful. I will not be reselling this book; I intend to keep it as a reference book for some time to come.

I used this book for an online course and found it very easy to use. I had never taken a statistics class before and ended up with an A in the course and had little to no help from my professor. This book does an excellent job explaining concepts with clear examples and instructions on how to perform problems using Minitab, Excel, and a TI-83 calculator. I usually sell my textbooks back, but I just might hang on to this one.

I used this book last semester. I then sold it. Now, I want it back. I am taking a follow-up stat course, but this book is my bible. It really is a great addition to any stat study. Will be buying a new one.

Comprehensive thinking for hard-skill management
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2003-10-26
Manufacturing is a combination of soft and hard skill. The soft-skill is about people and how to manage them. This skill is obvious in several text and business management book. The hard-skill, however, is quite rare. Fortunately, Wright combines it in nice -easy to read format.
The strong point of this book is "comprehensive". Wright composes his thought of manufacturing system today and projected to the future. All manufacturing processes are seamlessly combined from one chapter to another. The integration of CAD/CAM is also mentioned. In addition, his viewpoint of manufacturing system for biotechnology, nanotechnology and information technology are quite interesting -and practical.
If I have to use one book for manufacturing class, I would use this book for teaching. For anyone new to manufacturing process, this book is a must for your jorney to the manufacturing world.

An excellent text - definitely recommended

This book is like a breath of fresh air - A totally new and innovative view of manufacturing. It was very different from the traditional boring and dry manufacturing texts I have been used to reading. The book takes a look not only at manufacturing processes but also other aspects like product development and business plans - parts I have not seen in any other textbook. To sum up, I would definitely recommend the book !

A remarkable guidline for manufacturing in the 21st century

Review Date: 2001-07-14
This book provides an excellent overview of manufacturing in the new economy. From the perspective of an entrepreneur in today's internet driven world, all aspects from product design to rapid prototyping and computer manufacturing are discussed in detail and with strong reference to the real world. In addition, conventional manufacturing processes like basic machining and metal forming, as well as fairly new industrial directions like biotechnology are outlined with an emphasis on the strong relationship between engineering and business. The book concludes with a realistic vision for the future of manufacturing, and therefore proves to be a 'must have' in the world of engineering and entrepreneurship.

Concise and Very Informative

Most books on Multimedia either deal with specific applications of multimedia or offer an analysis of just one Multimedia standard, but this book establishes the fundamentals of multimedia signal processing, introducing generic concepts and then offering a more detailed analysis of the underlying mathematical concepts.

The language is simple and the author does not try to confuse the reader with technical jargon. The material on audio and video compression and various standards is especially intensive. The example programs in the MATLAB CD are well written and give the user a clear understanding of the practical aspects of digital filtering, compression algorithms and the basics of multimedia signal processing. I would strongly recommend this book to someone who wants to know the `whys' as well as the `hows'.

An excellent and interesting introduction to multimedia

Review Date: 2003-08-14
It is not easy to find a textbook on multimedia for upper level undergraduate and graduate computer engineering students. This book has filled the need, and has presented an excellent and interesting introduction to multimedia in fifteen chapters. Although, it has been assumed that the readers have knowledge about discrete-time signals and systems, a chapter has been included to review basic transforms and filter theory, as well as to present advanced theories such as discrete cosine transform and wavelets. The signal processing theories have been explained and demonstrated with simple examples. A strong point of the book is the accompanying CD that contains MATLAB codes for all relevant examples. The readers can easily run these codes and verify the results of the audio/image/video experiments presented in the book. For those who are not familiar with MATLAB, the processed audio/image/videos for several examples are provided in the CD. These readers can just play the audio file or display the image to verify the subjective quality. Instructors should also find the Power Point figures and tables provided by the author useful.

In a recent book on the Beach Boys, there is a photograph of Brian Wilson with his most important musical instrument, the multi-track tape recorder. Today's bands don't need one of those. A reasonably high powered Apple and Nuendo software will do more than was possible with rooms full of equipment back in 1966 when Brian's photo was taken.

This book, one of the very few about Nuendo, is aimed at the Beginner to Intermediate level Nuendo user. It a good place to start, or to use as a reference book for the more advanced user. At about 500 pages, it is long enough to include everything you need to get full use out of the software, yet it is not so long and ponderous like many of the thousand page plus software books.

I've heard it said that the best movies should be viewable as silent films: even with the sound off, you should be able to follow the plot. In that, this book is one of the best movies. Pigs communicate; piglets are too clever for their own good; mama pig scolds; and all the while, we know exactly what they're thinking, even though the only word they ever say is "oink!"

Great reading! Readers learn tradition and history while hearing very intriguing stories which make children (and adults) think. Wonderful way to instill values in children. We need more books like this. Reflecting on what you do and the consequences (positive and negative) are very important to know as you grow up. Looking forward to more stories!

100 Best Children's Stories from China ia perfect book for classroom use. I have found it an excellent resource for my student storytellers. The background information on the stories gives authenticity to the cultural content. When my students need to learn a story for performance, I encourage them to pick short stories with dialogue and interesting characters. This book is well written with intriguing characters, simple language which is easy enough for a young reader to enjoy, and enough plot detail to engage an adult reader. For parents and educators the book provides great read aloud content. Traditional values and cultural wisdom are embedded in the content. The thinking questions can provide a starting place for moral and character education discussions. I am awaiting 100 more stories from the authors.

I have participated as a living history first person interpreter for over 6 years, and have been a visitor at many living history sites across the country. I am also the period costume coordinator for a living history site. I have seen first hand many effective and ineffective presentations.

While reading and searching for textbooks for our upcoming "Dame School" program for young ladies at our site, I came across this book. Since the text is clear and written to be interesting as well as educational,I have chosen it as a textbook for our "school". I believe our young students will be able to relate well to the book, and that we will be able to use this book to guide them to more effectual presentations. I also highly recommend it for adults.

This book is very good at giving hints on how to engage visitors in conversations useful in imparting stories of the site one is working, as well as methods to diffuse potential problems. It presents varied types of sites which were reviewed by the author, and gives good examples of what is effective and what is not. This book also discusses class distinctions and first person interpretations of difficult and traumatic events and activities of the past, such as slavery. To give a well rounded view of history, first person interpreters can't just present the rosy side of life!

The extensive listing of living history sites which is in the back section of the book would be very useful to persons who are considering the hobby or profession of first person interpretation.

As a new recruit in the growing international army of Civil War reenactors, I was anxious to evolve past the usual march-and-shoot mass maneuvers into effective first-person interaction with spectators. But having never even seen a living-history interpreter, I wasn't sure what to do. Then I found Ms. Roth's delightful book on the internet! She interviewed scores of experienced interpreters at the best living-history museums in the United States and Canada to find out how they hook -- and keep -- the interests of their visitors. The result is some imaginative out-of-the-box approaches that make visitors think they're being entertained instead of educated! The fun that the interpreters obviously have with their roles is infectious -- I could hardly wait to try it! This is a MUST read for anyone who's ever thought of going to a historical reinactment as either a participant or a spectator.

Great Book For Reenactors and Museum Docents

Review Date: 2007-04-21
Television, movies, computers, even video games have changed the way we look at history. Recently written books on history are now in a style that gives the reader a greater understanding of what our founding father's and 19th century pioneer's daily lives were like.
Everything, it seems, is three dimensional today. Try visiting an American History museum - it's not your father's museum, that's for sure!
In her book, "Past Into Present," Ms. Roth just about covers every aspect of presenting history in all its glory and gore by using the process known as 1st person. First person brings the folks from the distant past back to life by having a re-enactor or a museum docent dress in period clothing, doing a job or a chore from the past, and speaking as if they actually ARE that long-dead person, alive again, here to share their knowlegde of times gone by. I, myself, impose a 1st person technique for my civilian impression in the 21st Michigan Civil War reenactors, and I must say that "Past into Present" truly helped me understand the importance of what I am representing while doing my impression. Through her book Ms. Roth also helped me see the pros and cons of being a 1st person living historian as well - how to stay in character, for instance, without jumping back and forth between first and third person.
From what I have seen at some re-enactments - and even at a museum - some living historians do not give the past the justice it deserves. They are the ones who should own this book as well. I've learned to give the reverence these folks from the past that we are emulating the respect they so deserve.
The writer can get a bit wordy (so can I, can't you tell?) but if you are one who is a bit more passionate about the past and would rather get deeper involved in history than the average person, then I would suggest you taking a gander at this book and read how you can become one from the past into the present at your next reenactment.

Ahoy, mateys! Famed pirate hunter Captain William Lubber just will not rest until he has captured every last seafaring villain to wreak havoc on the open water. In PIRATEOLOGY: GUIDEBOOK AND MODEL SET, the companion to Dugald A. Steer's PIRATEOLOGY, the good captain employs (forces, rather) the help of one very bad pirate to better understand just how these wily buccaneers storm the seven seas.

Designed as a private journal brimming with the same fanciful art, historical trivia and hair-raising adventure that made the 'Ologies books bestsellers, every aspect of pirate life is carefully detailed in Lubber's handwritten notes and elaborate illustrations --- from instructions on how to sail (or, more importantly, seize) a ship and the ways captives are punished, to what the crew will typically eat, drink, wear and do to keep themselves entertained.

The antiquated maps, charts and secret code keys, as well as an intricate scale model of a typical pirate ship to build yourself, make this breathtaking guidebook the most valuable tool on any young pirate hunter's next great adventure.
