After reading the glowing reviews, I was hoping for something spectacular. First of all, it is a small book, about 6x6 inches - $10 is too much for this small book. Next, I flipped through and read a few of the quotes, but couldn't see myself -or my daughter, the intended recipient- reading for more than a couple of minutes. Sorry, I'm just not impressed. This book, along with the other 3 in the series are all going back.

It is difficult for people of different generations to find a perfect gift. For my niece I thought that the best thing I could give her in her formative years is a sense of self esteem. Talking was not always the best way. I was lucky to find a book that was meaningful to us both.

I have a couple of girl friendship quote and photography books but this is one which I think will appeal to multiple generations of women, unlike my other books. Catherine Dee has included quotes from female Gen Y heros like Michele Kwan: "If you have nothing in life but a great friend, you're rich."

My 14 year old niece worships Michelle Kwan so I think she would appreciate this, as well as her grandma who worshipped Erma Bombeck.

I can't believe it, another gem by Catherine Dee. What a beautiful book of friendship, life lessons and quotes. This book helps to complete the set of Ms. Dee's other works. With beautiful shorts stories, whimsical quotes and words of inspiration, The Girls "Book of Friendship" is the perfect tool for teaching young girls how to build long-term relationships at the same time, providing words of encourage and empowerment.

I was thrilled to be able to give my daughter something tailored to her. This book lays a great foundation for "Girl Power" and enforces a strength in young ladies which will help them take on the world and deal with the obstacles in it.

Keep em coming Catherine!!!!!!

Bringing Joy after Surgery

I was recently in the hospital for open-heart surgery. My dear friend gave me the book of friendship. It meant so much to me for two reasons. One is that it is full of such wonderful quotes and shoret stories, and gave me some great memories and cemented my friendhip with the girl who gave it to me, and secondly, due to the brevity of the quotes and stories it was easy for me to pick up and read and put down when I got tired. It is so hard to concentrate on long stories when first out of surgery, so this book was perfect. It took me two weeks to read it all, but worth very minute.

I am a business owner interested in the Managed Services market space. I have read so much about Managed services but have not found a step by step guide on how to implement the managed services business plan or sell those services to clients. What I needed were step by step guides on both the topics. I was introduced to Erick's books by another associate. This book and "The Best I.T. Sales & Marketing BOOK EVER!" by Erick were exactly what I was looking for. Erick is not just a subject matter expert in Managed Services but has practiced and implemented his teachings and recommendations. He explains several key concepts and best practices on Managed Services, Deliverables, Pricing, How to identify clients, sell, support and maintain the services and build a long term win-win relationship with the clients. The coverage on How to Hire and Train your sales staff is worth its weight in gold. Included along with these 2 books are several forms, analysis tools and documents which make the sales process a whole lot easier with predictable results. These are the bibles for my managed services business and I refer them frequently. If you are serious about building a profitable managed services business, you must have these books.

This book not only is for women who are coming out of the closet, but it is also for anyone who wants a real perspective on Lesbians. The writers use real world examples and experiences to the reader and give a candid understanding of Lesbian life. This is an eye opening read for anyone with questions and I am glad it was there for me to pass onto others. Read it even if you're not a lesbian and you will find out what many already know...lesbians are people just like you.

This book is a whole relationship guide which is cool. Not many books take you from how to meet them to how to live with them. The history and terminology and everything included makes it a very helpful and well rounded book for everyone not just those coming out

Practical Primer for Avoiding Life's Pitfalls

Review Date: 2006-01-25
This award winning book presents practical, workable, life changing, concepts. These principles apply to parents who are teaching their children. They are relevant for the young person in high school or college. And for the adult on the threshold of a new stage of life: starting a family, a career move, or in retirement years. Whatever your age you will find the book applicable to your situation.

Parrish reveals secrets to success in the area of relationships, goal setting, and values. He then goes on to offer suggestions for a time line of adult life. He gives specific applications for marriage, family, others, finances, and healthy living. It is a book about making the best choices when wrestling with life's most important decisions.

Parrish quotes from the classic motivational authors. Among his favorites are Og Mandino, Napoleon Hill, Miguel Ruiz, Eckert Tolle, and James Allen. I especially enjoyed his "Lesson in a Nutshell" and "A Few Profound Thoughts" sections.

This is a book that you will want to read, reread, and internalize, and then take intelligent action steps into a successful future.

A great book for everyone from any walk of life!

This book is easy to read, has great principals to guide anyone looking to learn some of life's most important lessons from a truly wonderful, successful and generous man. As a person who loves to read and learn from self help and self improvement books, I rate this one a 10.

I am not sure what planet the previous reviewer is from, (Planet Jealousy perhaps?) my guess is he has a personal issue. I suggest he give the book to someone who will appreciate it, which shouldn't be hard. My feeling is that it makes a great gift for someone getting started in life, so that they can take advantage of its lessons.

Here is another excellent life guide book you may enjoy!

Life's Greatest Lesson: 20 Things That Matter by Hal Urban
www.halurban.com

This is an Owner's Manual for a Happy and Successful Life!!!,

Its timeless message on character education should be read by every child, parent and teacher. It is sure to become a classic.

I have given away at least five copies to family and friends!

It was awarded Best Inspirational Book of the Year 2000 by Writer's Digest Magazine.

I have donated a few select books that have been added to my local Public Library. This is by far the best inspirational and motivational book I have read so far. It contains the wisdom of the ages and essential life truths.

A few of the books I have donated are: HOW TO SUCCEED IN LIFE: Ideas and Principles They Don't Teach in School by Ned Grossman, MASTER SUCCESS: Create a Life of Purpose, Passion, Peace and Prosperity by Bill FitzPatrick, a local author from Natick, MA, FREEDOM FROM FEAR: Learn How to Live Life to the Fullest by Mark Matteson, The story of one man's discovery of simple truths that lead to wealth, joy and peace of mind, and I DARE YOU By William H. Danforth.

I highly recommend Life's Greatest Lessons, as it teaches the wisdom of the ages. This book is so wonderful, that after I finished it, I went back and re-read it again. Periodically, I will reread certain chapters again. I am very select in what I choose to donate to the library. I am donating it to the library so it can benefit the most people possible. This book on character education is a topic not normally taught in schools. It is an "owner's manual for a happy and successful life." It describes in a simple easy to understand manner, common-sense life skills that can be applied immediately to enhance and enrich anyone's life.

Ever since Mr. Parrish and his staff "adopted" a 5th grade class at Hester elementary school, my daughter Pearl, one of those 5th graders, has had a white board with a list of goals in her room. As I'd walk in and out of her room, year after year, the list would morph--checkmarks would appear, items would disappear, and interesting new items would appear. This pattern was steadfast as the tide. I was so proud when Mr. Parrish asked Pearl to speak at one of his company's morning meetings. She talked about the "Better World" theory--an idea Mr. Parrish and his staff had shared with Pearl's class. Part of the concept is that one should not blame others for their predicaments, and they should take responsibility for improving their own lives. Just this one concept alone can be life-transforming. But in "If I'd Known Then What I Know Now," Mr. Parrish shares MANY tips that can help you better your life NOW. One irony of this book may be this: it is divided into lessons for different age groups (for example, 7 to 15, 16 to 25, 26 to 40 and so on). It could be hard to get your 17 year old to sit down and read the section of the book that pertains to them, because at that age, they might think they do not need any advice. Yet if they would be open to reading and internalizing the advice, their whole future could be happier!!! I thank Mr. Parrish for sharing goal setting tips with Pearl that have enabled her to chart her life's course. Pearl is only 19, and she's already been to Paris, Amsterdam, Venice, New York, Riverside, Omaha, and had her own TV show! I used to love reading positive-thinking books when I was young, and this book reminded me of those days when all seemed possible. I realized after reading his book that all is STILL possible. Since reading Mr. Parrish's book, I got reacquainted with long lost friends, I've improved at keeping commitments (I want my word to be my "bond"), and I'm reviving some goals I set aside a long time ago. Thanks, Mr. Parrish! -- Debbie Wible (11/17/3)

Aromatherapy Essentials

Review Date: 2008-06-14
For quite some time I've been fascinated by essential oils. While they can at times be quite expensive to collect a few high-quality essential oils can go a long way.

This book is divided up into three main sections. In the first section there is a brief history of essential oils and an interesting picture to show steam distillation. There is information on why lavender and neroli stimulate new cell growth and how rosemary encourages healthy hair growth.

The second section is very helpful with ideas on which essential oils to use for a wide variety of common complaints. While it is interesting to note that cardamom and black pepper are good for heartburn, a recipe would be useful. If you want a recipe I can recommend the one for a chai tea in Savoring the Spice Coast of India: Fresh Flavors from Kerala. I made it tonight using soymilk and a rooibos teabag.

Part three in this fascinating book includes information on 165 essential oils. While I've read many books on essential oils there were numerous oils I'd never heard of before. In this section there are a few oils you want to avoid like wormwood that can cause brain damage. You may recognize bergamot if you have ever made Earl Grey tea. Could lemonade be part of a cure for arthritis? This book gives all sorts of new information and also has a helpful glossary.

While this book is comprehensive I think it would have been better to organize the essential oils according to their common name instead of their Latin name. Fortunately there is a good index so you can find your favorite essential oils fast. In the index you can find the common name (frankincense) as well as the Latin or botanical term (Boswellia Carteri).

If you are looking for any additional information I can also recommend anything by Connie Higley: Reference Guide for Essential Oils Tenth Edition, October 2006. I have the 1999 edition but have been considering the new edition to add to my collection.

~The Rebecca Review, currently wearing Aura Cacia Love Potion Essential Oil .5 oz. I love all the Aura Cacia essential oils.

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils is a wonderful book to add to a collection of knowledge of Aromatherapy. It contains very detailed properties of each essential oil - easy to understand and great for reference for all to read, learn and practice. If you can't find what you are looking for specifically for an essential oil, you will most definately find it in this book.

If I had to have only two books in my Aromatherapy Library, this would be one of them, along with The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy, by Salvatore Battaglia. I have been an Aromatherapist since 2003, I know - a relatively short time - but a productive time, and I could not have accomplished what I have without this book. It is a very complete list - if not the best list - of essential oils available in book form, with all their properties, chemical breakdown, methods of extraction, history, ancient uses for the plants and oils, modern uses, toxicity and as if this wasn't enough - the photos are marvolous and extremely helpful in identifying plants and the oil colour. Every plant gets a whole page and the format repeats and is so easy to follow. What makes this book stand out among its peers is the ease of use with an excellent index, glossary of terms, botanical index, botanical classification and references (just because a book has these thing doesn't mean they are always good or useful).
The most toxic of essential oils, which are hardly mention in other books , or, we are merely warned to stay away from for aromatherapy use, are also covered in Ms. Lawlwess' book, and I am glad for that because I want to know the "why" of everything. Why is it bad? After all - this is meant as a reference book, not a "how to". It is one of the most important books on essential oils and you are cheating yourself not to have a copy. I don't know if Ms. Julia Lawless is alive, and if she is, when she will come out with an updated version, but I sure hope so.

Gerry McGovern's "Killer Web Content" *seems* to be a primer about writing "killer content." And it is. He talks about simple ideas (e.g., "killer, not filler," or, on the Net, "in self-service mode, people go on gut instinct") in simple sentences, with lots of words in red so you get the idea. Then you put those ideas all together and think about them. And *then* you start looking at websites created from the grad school universe by professionals, all too often FOR PROFESSIONALS, that leave you - us - Everyman - frustrated or even amused (and that is not the intent). Ah, the epiphany: you realize that too many people are getting paid too much money when they have no idea how to talk to us: the folks who are surfing at 2AM in hotel rooms, trying to learn something for tomorrow's presentation to the Executive Committee. Obviously McGovern has practiced medicine: you listen to the patient, and the patient will tell you what the problem is. You listen to the customer, and the customer will tell you what she needs to hear. You listen to your children, etc.

Of course, the devil is in the details. Would that there were a standard operating procedure to ferret out the words that each of us wants to hear. Then we could fire Sales and Marketing - all they do is get us folks in Technology and Operations into trouble, right? Nope, says McGovern, you have to talk to people, relate to them, listen to them, hear what they say, abstract the content, try it out on your site. Each word is a hypothesis: true or false. Does it work? Does it bring people? You measure, you re-frame, you redesign, you re-relate. Surely it must be easier than this! All Jeff Bezos did is slap some stuff onto a website, and look at him! Right? McGovern just smiles, probably lifts a Guinness - he hints at his pleasure in Ireland - and, secure in the knowledge that you'll reread his book, just goes on about his business, writing and consulting.

Oh, it seems so simple. Oh, it's not really that complicated. Oh, it is so, so worthwhile. Read the book carefully.

I purchased this book specifically to read more about the process for researching usability issues. I am not a market researcher, but I am a web developer who understands SEO, basic usability issues and general web practices. I found this book to be well-written, simple to understand and it provides a pretty good map for researching your web audience. I have actually read it twice now, finding even more the second time around.

I highly recommend this book, I still use it as a resource as I learn more about market research, something I don't particularly care for, but that is essential to my success as a brand manager and web developer.

I work for a Fortune 500 company and was first introduced to Gerry McGovern through one of his workshops that my company was hosting. I really connected with Gerry's passion for both the customer's perspective, as well as his message to get the fundamentals right. Armed with his book Killer Web Content, I left the workshop inspired with new ideas for solving some of the UX issues we were having with our Careers website (strategic business tool for talent recruiting).

I started to read his book the next week and learned enough useful information with each chapter that I finished it. I got a lot of value from some of the techniques described in Killer Web Content. I appreciated the information specific to generating good content using "Carewords" in the right way and at the right time. I also learned from this book that the web user is a different animal than traditional application users. Gerry has a good handle on the machinations that drive this new information hunter's behavior.

I can honestly say that I've quoted Gerry's work in UX meetings dozens of times since first attending his workshop. Since December, I've given away three copies of Killer Web Content to other UX professionals. All 3 have given it rave reviews! In addition to attending one of his live workshops (absolutely awesome!), I HIGHLY recommend getting this book!

The book is a good read with a lot of useful information about content design and production. Don't expect a detailed tutorial, it aims rather to show you what is important and what approach you should take.

What I liked
- rich information about user behaviours regarding content consumptions (debunks some myths)
- eye-opener findings (did you know that the word 'special offers' is preferred to the word 'deal' when people are asked though when searching, they use the word 'deal'? etc.)
- clear examples and reasoning that can help you in situations when you have to convince clients about some fundamental content issues

What I did not like
- if you have been following Gerry's newsletters as I did, well, you already know most of what the book is about
- there are some chapters that did not tell me really anything (one is about some very rudimentary SEO, another about the importance of blogging)
- the design of the print: there are complete pages written in bold red letters, some pages look like this is the first Powerpoint presentation with an ISBN number

This is an excellent book for a dedicated student of yoga, or a training yoga teacher. The guide speaks clearly, and it is easy to follow.

Truly a "must" for non-Indian yoga teachers

I can't believe I have never reviewed this before! I've been a yoga teacher for - oh yikes, way too long to admit to but until I listened to the CDs that come with this book, I had been pronouncing things incorrectly. I guess my teachers learned the wrong pronounciation from others who didn't know...and on it goes. But my students know the difference now; hopefully, they will pass it on as some of them become teachers.
I've also used the book for tattoos. Just enlarge the writing for the artist...perfect.

I read this book through in just a few days, and I'll be going through it a second time in a few days more. I am a freelance writer by trade, and Ms. Glatzer does an amazing job of teaching the ins and outs of the freelance world. And although I do sometimes hate her just a little for the ease with which she seems to gain national and incredibly high paying assignments, it only makes me strive to be more like her. Bless you, Jenna, for this incredibly helpful resource.

I've been in three national glossies with no prior experience... Thanks, Jenna!

I can't recommend this book highly enough. It's good enough that I've been able to masquerade as a veteran while really a novice. No, I never lied, editors assumed. I just started rereading this book this week, and I'm gleaning even more helpful information the second time through, now that I know the lay of the land a little better. Thank you, Jenna!

Jenna is a great thought leader in this difficult, thrilling industry. She gives practical advice for those who want to make a real business out of writing. I get a lot of queries about how I stay in business--and I refer people to her book!

What References . . .

. . . do I rely on? Over and over again, I've been asked which books I turn to time and time again for reference. I can't believe I have talked about this book on here yet - I've been raving about it all over the Internet ever since its release. So, here I am, a bit late with a lot to say.

When it comes to venturing through the freelance writing world, it's not uncommon to take the first step with fear and a sort of sick feeling in your gut. You want to feel secure, want answers to all the hard questions, and you want your hand held. Well, Jenna's done all of that in this guide.

Don't let how slim this guide fool you at all. It isn't because it's lacking material, information and resources. On the contrary, it's bursting at the seams with everything a freelance writer needs to run a successful business. The key is that there's no fluff. Sure, there's a LOT of humor and personal experiences injected in just the right places. You won't find a lot of useless information just thicken the book up, though.

When I first started my business in 1999, I searched HIGH and LOW for an all-in-one reference to guide me through the process and never coule really find what I was looking for. Now, when I come across new writers in search of the same thing, I direct them to this book. And, each time they've talked to me about what they've learned from reading and USING this book, they've raved about how glad they were to have it right from the beginning.

Sharp, practical advice from an insider who knows

Want to be a freelance writer? Jenna Glatzer tells you the truth about the business in a conversational, factual, no-nonsense style sprinkled with her warm personality and humor. She lays out the writer's path and bids you to take the first steps.

After reading so many books on writing that don't deliver on the promises they make, Jenna's book is refreshingly honest and practical. If I were teaching a course on writing, I'd make sure every student had her book.

Make a Real Living as a Freelance Writer is great for novices and veterans. She surprises you with solid tips on researching and using the internet to full advantage. Her book takes the fear out of an often imposing business and reminds one that writing is compelling fun.

This book/software package is an ideal purchase for individuals preparing to take the United States Postal Exam 473 & 473-C. The material is not only accurate and up-to-date, it's affordable, easy to follow, and comes with wonderful live customer service! This package takes you from the beginning to the end of this exam. It provides detailed information about each segment, strategies to overcome common obstacles, and finally simulates the actual exam with six practice tests. If you are serious about preparing for this exam, you want this book/software combo! Watch out for fraudulent companies! They are out there, and they will take your money. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way. The first company (which shall remain nameless in this review to avoid slander) stole my money by twisting the truth and providing me with irrelevant out-of-date material. If it had not been for the discovery of this book/package and Mr. T. W. Parnell's wonderful support team, I would have failed the exam. If you buy this package and follow the steps, you won't regret it! This book contains, "The Right Stuff!"

Worth its weight in gold!

This book was really easy to follow and I felt really confident before and after my test. I think I had about a week and a half before my test to do this program and it seems just about right.I was so confident as I took the test, I finished with time to spare and went back and double checked myself. I took the test in 2005 and scored very well thanks to the book and computer program. I have had several interviews because I scored so well. I have had some questions along the way and they have been very helpful. The pathfinder people are very nice people to work with and very up up date on all their information. They communicate well and are quick to respond. I think they have many insiders that give them accurate information that the other books seem to not even have a clue on. You cannot go wrong with this. He gives you clues and tips to make it so easy to do. I have been to the library and read through many of the other books out there before I purchase this one. None of them compare to it in information and ease of use. Just buy it you won't be disappointed!

Super helpful!!! Follow Mr. Parnell's suggetions and take a few practice tests - you'll have no surprises on test day!

I bought the CD version of New Postal Exam 473 & 473-C Computer-Based Course (Paperback)by T. W. Parnell (Author), Susie Varner (Illustrator), from Amazon.com merchant wadsjk (http://www.amazon.com/shops/wadsjk). This study guide is great. It gives very helpful advice - even though I modified some Mr. Parnell's suggested strategies to suit my way of memorizing.

I bought the version of this book that came with a CD. The CD has a series of lessons (no substitute for reading the book as Mr. Parnell points out). The CD also allows you to simulate a test taking session. It includes instructions for taking the Exam (which are very similar to the real thing) and realistically times you on each part. The tests and answer sheets are in the book.

This Postal Exam is a TIMED TEST. It will be difficult to get through some of the sections of the Exam unless you practice. On one part of the Exam you are to make 60 responses in 6 minutes - 6 seconds per item! I have taken this Exam twice recently - six days apart. Even though I recieved Mr. Parnell's book two days prior to the first time I took the Exam, I completed 58 of the 60 items. Six days later I was able to complete all 60 on a different version of the Exam.

I'm confident the this book helped me score well on this Exam. I hope to update this review after the USPS sends me my scores.

fantastic book! i tried The Artist's Way but... too time-consuming - i'm busy!!!! maybe i'll get back to it, but maybe it won't be necessary. i found that within the first few chapters of THIS delightful book i'd already gained focus and answered questions... i found mine at the local library, wrongly filed under "metaphysical", lol... i'll be buying my own copy very soon.

Several years ago, I browsed through "The Nine Modern Day Muses" in a bookstore and decided to buy a copy for myself. What a gift that turned out to be! Since that time, Jill Badonsky's book has made a wonderful gift for others. I have given copies to my sister; my boss; close friends; colleagues from my former life as an attorney; fellow writers, zydeco dancers, meditators, Buddhist practitioners.... Their response has been unanimous - every one of them loves the book.

"The Nine Modern Day Muses" is so much fun. The book is an easy read - Jill Badonsky's sense of humor is delightful, and her writing is light and playful. BUT don't let this fool you. "The Nine Modern Day Muses" is packed full of substance: powerful tools for igniting your creative spark and overcoming creative obstacles, fun but effective exercises for generating creative ideas, thought-provoking gems, and page after page of inspiration and encouragement. The book has been a tremendous hit with my creativity coaching clients and creativity group/workshop participants.

I highly recommend buying Jill Badonsky's book for yourself, your family and friends, and anyone else you know who wants to be more creative.

If you haven't yet had the privilege of reading Jill Badonsky's magnificently motivating book The Nine Modern Day Muses (and a Bodyguard) you MUST find a copy and read it.

A Master Muse of our time...Jill Badonsky is a witty , sometimes wickedly irreverent, delightful and brainy Tinkerbellesque Warrior of the creative enchanted mind; illuminating the magic and possibility of creative ideas, visions and artistic dreams. This is a writer that not only walks her talk...she lives it.

The Nine Modern Day Muses gives you serious tools to take your dreams and your goals from imagination to reality. This brilliant and delicious recipe is that of an intellectual gourmand with a sense of humor. Ms. Badonsky shares cutting-edge psychological technologies, specific exercises and the extraordinary power of guided imagery to aid us in winning the battle against self-sabotage and marauding inner critics. Add to that a dash of whimsy and several pinches of joyful, motivational merriment and you have a reference that takes significant information and presents it with a sense of ease and FUN!

You will find yourself picking up this timeless creative classic again and again and again. There is a mysterious energetic resonance that infuses THE NINE MODERN DAY MUSES. With each read, no matter what page you may choose, the book seems to reveal another layer of excellent information; as though the Muse Faerie Scholars come out when it's on the shelf and add more dazzling, thought-provoking ideas!

This is NOT just a book for Artists, Craftspeople, Poets, Writers and Lovers. This is a book for EVERY HUMAN BEING. We are all students of ourselves.

JILL BADONSKY'S THE NINE MODERN DAY MUSES (and a Bodyguard) will lovingly speak in non-judgmental voices and persuade you to consider the power of yourself...the Wildchild you still are... and the inimitable gifts you have to share with our world.

Post Script: A SECRET...The latest word on the streets of Museopolis is that Jill Badonsky and her Muses are soon to launch another inspirational and brilliant morsel...The AWE-MANAC. Keep your eyes open for it this September!

This book is delightful! As a lifelong creativity champion, the moment I saw it I knew I had to have it. Of all the books I've read on creativity, and there have been many, it's the most creatively written and formatted that I've found, providing not only valuable information on the creative process, but being itself a model and an inspiration as well. The author, Jill Badonsky, brilliantly presents creativity principles in a playful, engaging and interactive way, personified by fun and spirited muses. Being a former producer of training materials and a promoter of creative and interactive performance support strategies, I appreciate the concept of chunking bits of information into a sort of buffet of info nuggets that can be digested in either a linear or a non-linear fashion. This book offers such a buffet. It's chock full of metaphors, strategies, resources and exercises that provide a bountiful and delicious creativity experience. Whether you want to explore your creative potential, take your creating to a new level, or help others do the same, buy this book! You won't be disappointed.
