This is a great book! I read it in an hour and a half. I enjoy knowing the process people take in order to deal with life's occasional hiccups that knock the world out from under you. It helps to know that you're not the only one sometimes. It's always a relief when the person works it out positively and thinks enough to want to share it with others. Thank you, Danny!

I suppose I had some misperceptions of this book. I was assuming there would be more inspiration that would cajole me into journaling and artwork. I also thought is was he who was disabled - it was his wife. There was little mention of how his wife's diability figured into the whole pictue of his life. As a disabled person, I thought there would be some insight into overcoming disability to do what you want. I do however, love the way he draws and journals. In the end I saw this as a simple journal that anyone might have done. I still have his other book and I have higher hopes for that.

Suzanne Falter-Barns has given the gift of added inspiration to anyone who needs vindication for taking time out to pursue their own dreams, not just writers, but aspiring spirits of all walks of life. We are often made to feel guilty for seeking our own path, or the 'road less traveled', especially if we're not following traditional or 'money making' careers. In my opinion, this book should be required reading for all graduating high school seniors to give them that extra gust of wind beneath their wings...

This book may look small, but it packs a wallop for everyone who's having trouble starting - whether it be starting "the great American novel", a painting, new business or screenplay. Suzanne Falter-Barnes also shows us how "failures" actually help us in the creative process, and be positive experiences along our path. It's not necessarily a matter of having talent, it's all about having the passion to follow our dreams.

Buy this book for everyone you care anything about!

I was browsing the table of contents of this book online here at amazon, and was so excited by just the titles of each chapter I knew I had to have this book immediately if not sooner. So for the first time in my life, I dowloaded the digital version of the book and was reading it within 5 minutes. Now I am a person who has read all the Robbins,Chopra, Dyer, Sinetar, Moore, Quantum Physics and Abraham materials you can think of. Every book on Doing what you love and the money will follow theme. This book is the best of all of them.

I read almost all the "You can do anything you want once you find yourself, believe in yourself and focus" books anyone on earth can claim to have read and this book had me up all night and the next and I read it in just 2 days I couldnt put it down. What struck me about it if you read it clearly, is that this book isnt so much about doing anything and succeeding, its about just getting out of the way of all your doubts, excuses and mental reasoning and just living who you are. It doesnt even matter if you fail or succeed as the doing it becomes the divine calling of your life. Nothing else is important...or satisfying!

All the other books focus on succeeding or getting from A to B but Suzanne just tells you to do it, do it forever and let the chips fall where they may. Wow, what a relief to know that I can spend the next 30 years of my life as a public speaker, never make a dime and on my death bed know I did what my soul came here for me to do! The success and fame is just gravy.

Thank you Suzanne for giving me permission to live my life with no hidden agendas of meeting anyones expectations including my own. Damn, life may actually start to be fun again. As a financial advisor who has few paying clients I've done so well for, Ive made them millions of dollars and never even got a thank you, nor have I got the fame and exposure for my website or message board called:momsonlinestocks(ok, ok, so I threw in a little plug. lol) that I deserve after having one of the best stock picking records in the country for 2 years! Nor have I been able to live the way I want financially because they dont reward me very well, Ive felt very resentful about life. Now I know it is ok to do the things I really love even if they never pay my bills. In fact, without doing what you can say is your life/soul mission(s), no success anywhere else will ever make you feel complete. I cant wait to read Suzanne's other book which is on its way in the mail. BEST book I ever read!

Please.....get this book for everyone who is not really happy with their work and lives. In fact, get this for everyone who is as well. I'ts loaded with inspiration from cover to cover. If this book wont do it for you, nothing else will. Dont know what you want from life? No problem. Suzanne will help you. In fact, I'd love to correspond with all readers of this book and maybe even start a cyber support group or board. The most liberating and validating book I've ever read. I'm even thinking of making a career out of teaching her concepts! Coaching anyone? -) Be prepared to miss work the next day if you start this book late at night. You wont be able to put it down. In fact, tomorrow I am going to attend a workshop on a particular love of mine I have had for years knowing there will be only superior and more experienced people there. Now I am going because it is my calling to do so, the fear of measuring up is completely gone. What an epiphany! I wish I read this book at age 15, instead of in my 40's. My whole life would have probably turned out different.

I have always affectionately been know as the "maker of miracles' or the "grantor of wishes" but never was able to get paid for my personal coaching/consulting. Now I have the emotional tools to do so and it doesnt even matter if I never get one paying client. My e-mail is:mince38@yahoo.com if you'd like to comment or chat.

Unlike the last negative review, though I did find some things that have been said in many other books of this type, for me the reminders were just that--a reminder to get back into the work I love, but with a practical stamp upon it to make it happen (me being an ungrounded Gemini, being 'practical' is difficult!). I just finished Suzanne's other book, "Living Your Joy" and I am so grateful I found it as well. Both books inspired me to do the work (play) that is REALLY important to me, yet still keep the day job going for the daily bills we all face here on Planet Earth. Bravo, Suzanne!

Speaking from my own point of view when trying to pursuing my dream, I have faced the fear of failure. I think we all have in some way, more or less. We need encouragement to go on, and if we don't get it, we need courage to do it all on our own.

To me, failure is wisdom and something we shouldn't be afraid of. What's important is that we must never give up. The dream is out there and it's reachable if you don't give up. In some way you'll always be able to achieve it.

Author, Suzanne Falter-Barns is in her book `How Much Joy Can You Stand?' giving us inspiration and encouragement to never giving up on your dream. The book is based on other peoples stories as well as on Suzanne Falter-Barns own experiences. In the book are exercises to go forth and back whenever a situation occurs.

Take the advices from others and start pursuing your dream today. When you're 70 years old, it might be too late and you'll be annoyed over what you didn't do. Everything is up to you - get started!

Kay Arthur has a marvalous peice of work in the "How To Study The Bible". This book is designed for people that want to study on their own rather then a group, but make no mistake about it it can be used in group as well.

Great step by step instructions on how to break down each book of the bible and utilize the 5 W's and the H. I found it helpful because I needed something that could simplify the bible on my own so that I may seek the word of God by myself and geat a great appreciation for it.

I recommend this study guide to anyone that wants to get deeper into God's word and what he is speaking to your heart.

This is a very good book to aid new Christians, and older Christians who have never been at a seminary or have never had a Biblical interpretation class. If Christians are to rightly divide the Word of Truth, they must be more than just willing to learn; they must have some help along the way that is effective, efficient, and simple. This book is like a mini introduction to hermeneutics and exegesis though the exegesis is very light. Kay Arthur's emphasis on Observation, Interpretation, and Application components of the Inductive Bible study are essential tools for those who are willing to learn and have a teachable spirit. Asking the 5Ws and the H through Bible studying are also mentioned here and these questions greatly help the Bible student in avoiding bringing into the text what the text is not stating or saying. I very much recommend this book and it should be one of the first books, after the Bible, of course, Bible students should buy to guide them in the challenging, arduous, and time consuming yet rewarding task of discovering the everlasting reaches found in the written Word of God.

The most basic of biblical interpretation rules is that the Bible is best interpreted with the Bible itself. This book is a primer in the most effective way to study the Bible using the Bible. The inductive method of bible study is one of many ways to study the Bible, but it is one of the most effective.

Many have read the Bible devotionally and have never actually studied its words. This book will provide a growing Christian with what they need to put their growth into high gear. The book and its methods in use are a joy to experience, and the methods are far from the idea that many might have from the book's title. This is not dry bible study.

As a newbie to the wonder of star gazing, I personally found this book a must-have because of its timeliness at my current level of experience. While I own a Go-To telescope (SCT), most of the time I have found that I enjoy star-hopping instead. The Thompson's Guide has helped me, in short-order, to find DSOs that I was having trouble finding. The approach of occasionally using geometric relationships has helped, on many nights, to increase the number of objects I've been able to find. This book has served me as more than just a key guide in simplifying star-hopping techniques; the black/white images and the related commentaries are also of immense benefit. Finally, quite a bit of historical information is also provided in a brief, yet beneficial form. I'm ready for their next volume, which I hope contains an additional 450 DSO objects for me to pursue!

'Illustrated Guide to Astronomical Wonders: From Novice to Master Observer' is an absolute must buy for any and all amateur or even experienced astronomers. Filled with 500+ pages of content spread over 50 chapters, this book will enable you to start really using your telescope and finding all the wonders that the stars have to show to anyone that wants to open their eyes!! Jam packed full of star charts will locations, names, and related phenomena information in the area of where you will be looking, this is a hobbyists 'candy' book, just waiting to be unraveled and enjoyed!

My only complaint with this book is that I wish the images were printed in color. I realize that most of the pictures with a space background will be really black, but I feel that some color would really help make the content jump off the pages even more.

Not only does the book tell you about phenomena to look at in the sky, there also is information on the type of equipment that can be used to gaze up up up as well as general astronomical information. If you are a star gazed, pick this book up!

It's always a pleasure to come across something really done well.

The team of Robert and Barbara Thompson, who produced the excellent "Astronomy Hacks" in 2005, have come up with a superlative book for beginning to intermediate deep sky observers entitled, "Illustrated
Guide to Astronomical Wonders".

Taking the objects from six well-known observing lists:

= the Messier objects,
= the RASC (Royal Astronomical Society of Canada) Finest NGC objects
= the AL (Astronomical League) Binocular Messier List
= the AL Deep-Sky Binocular List
= the AL Urban Observing List
= the AL Doubles Star List

the authors present 400 outstanding objects, all well within the range of moderate apertures (the largest scope referenced in their book is a 10" reflector). So, while challenging, the number isn't overwhelming and the objects aren't too difficult.

The objects are sorted into fifty constellations available to northern
observers, each given a chapter and presented alphabetically. Each chapter contains:

= A discussion of the constellation

= A full constellation chart showing object locations.

= Tables giving:
- type, size, magnitude, coordinates, etc for each
object
- the originating observing list (Messier, RASC, AL) from
which the object was taken

= Finder charts for each object with uniform 5 degree or 1 degree
circles superimposed, making them adequate for field use

= Individual discussions of each object. Each discussion also
contains a description on how to find the object, as an example,

"...The easiest way we found to locate NGC 7129
was to place mag 4.4 xi on the SE edge of our
finder field and look for mag 5.4 7-Cep which
appears near the NW edge. NGC 7129 lies on a
line between those two stars, about two-thirds
of the way from xi to 7-Cep..."

= Uniform 1 square degree black and white photographs of almost all
of the deep sky objects. These small images better approximate
what a visual observer might actually see at the eyepiece.

= Each object also bears a four level visual rating, ranging from
unimpressive to showpiece and a four level finding difficulty
rating, going from very difficult to easy to find.

To those acquainted with the larger, more expensive two-volume Night Sky Observer's Guide, this chapter format will look familiar, the significant difference being that the NSOG chapters list a selection of variables in each constellation.

Of course the 400 objects of the Thompson book is dwarfed by the 5,541 of the NSOG, but that smaller number in the Illustrated Guide allows it to include more practical finder charts and to better address amateurs equipped with moderate apertures under less than ideal skies. For example, some of the NSOG descriptions only list what you'll see in fairly large scopes, 16 to 18 inches. That's not helpful to many amateur observers.

The first sixty or so pages of the Illustrated Guide contain an intro to DSO observing and a discussion of observing equipment. Both sections are very informative and actually enjoyable because, surprise, they address the concerns of a real practicing amateur observer.

For example, you'll find pointers on how to plan observing sessions but you'll also find things that'll move you off the level of a beginner right away, for example, a description of the Trumpler scale for open clusters and a discussion of perceiving color in blue-green O-III light.

Equipment wise, the Thompsons aren't shy about noting their preferences, for example, their favored planetarium software is Megastar. But they also objectively discuss the pros and cons of telescope types, individual eyepiece lines and the performance of different nebular filters.

The book aims to supply some of the practical wisdom that observers usually have to pick up the hard way - spending time under the night sky and patiently distinguishing the useful from the irrelevant and the hype.

Physically, the Illustrated Guide is an attractive paperback that opens flat and has generous margins on each page for jotting notes.

So general strengths of the book? The Illustrated Guide is a reasonably priced, one-volume guide to deep sky observing written by a knowledgeable observing team that can become a mainstay of any amateur library. Using just this observing guide, a beginning observer could become a relatively advanced amateur in a reasonably short period - yes, I think it's that well designed. For some observers, it might actually make up their entire observing "career".

Urban astronomers may find the black and white images invaluable in helping to identify objects like open clusters that might normally go unrecognized in light polluted skies.

Also, with some qualifications, viewing all the objects in this book will fulfill the requirements for a number of observing certificates, if that's one of your aims.

OK, weaknesses? Well, none really. But something said by the authors in their introduction bears repeating. Amateur astronomy has become almost synonymous with deep sky observing. And that's unfortunate.

Planetary and variable star observing each require different types of observing skill and often different types of equipment. Until excellent guides like the Thompsons' new book are devoted to these branches of amateur astronomy, many people will continue to ignore them.

At first glance I wasn't sure what to make of this book. It's not an atlas and it's not another generalized book about astronomy. It struck me as something that has been done before. After all, I have a huge astronomy library and this sort of fit in next to my Burnham's three volume set.

But the more I looked at it....the second glance...that was the look that told me I had something special with this book. As founder of an astronomy club, I'm always trying to find something that correctly sets expectation for what people will actually see at the eyepiece of the telescope. Bingo! That's the real value of this book.

You get a realistic preview and then tons of valuable information. Also, if you grow weary of the Messier catalog but don't know where to go from there, this book will give you abundant targets!

Conclusion? It's a must have. I'd call it an updated, condensed Burnham's!

Benjamin Orbach has turned his year in Amman and Cairo (with quick jaunts to Turkey and Syria) into an insightful and eye-opening narrative. All too often we only hear about the Middle East through video clips of angry anti-American protests. Orbach's knowledge of Arabic allowed him to dig much deeper and present a more complex and complete picture of the intricate nature of Middle Eastern culture and politics. This book is a must-read for anyone looking to get beyond the sound bites and find out what is really happening in this critical region of the world.

WONDERFUL, EXCITING AND INSPIRATIONAL BOOK

It has been several years since I have traveled outside the USA. I have not felt safe after 9/11. Whenever I see the news including the Arab countries, whenever I hear the words, Arab, Jihad, Islam, Muslim, I find myself feeling anxious with some degree of fear and confusion. Reading Ben Orbach's book, Live From Jordan, has provided me with a tremendous breakthrough. I am now able to see the Arab people as just that - PEOPLE. That fear is gone. I continue to maintain guarded interest, but no more so than with anyone else. I live in the Seattle area where we have many cultures living here. It is so freeing to see them as fellow passengers on the wonderful planet earth.

I especially appreciated Ben's comments toward the end of his book, pages 296 and 297 where we all have the honor to be "unofficial ambassadors" wherever we go. Human kindness goes a long way whether it is with a neighbor near or far away. Being a grandmother and even a great-grandmother I am encouraged and pleased to say that I will be planning and saving for my next trip abroad. I will still be cautious, but no more so with the Arab people as with anyone else. Thank you Ben!

"Live From Jordan" takes you to the Middle East and gives you an on-the-ground view. Yes, the perspective is American, but that is the point. What happens when an American Jew who speaks Arabic manages to pass as a Canadian in the lead-up to the Iraq war?

It's fascinating to see how generous and inviting the locals are to the author--how they invite him into their conversations, their homes, their families, and their conflicts. As a result, the author gains a private look into a world that most of us will never see, and he shares that world with us, with humor, grace, and insight.

Live from Jordan: Letters Home from My Journey through the Middle East is
thoughtful, illuminating, and highly entertaining. It is an elegantly written, and often hilarious, account of Orbach's prolonged stay in Jordan and Egypt, as well as his excursions to Israel, Morocco,
Oman, Syria, and Turkey. The book's scope is broad--the author details his
day-to-day experiences, from finding an apartment in Amman to providing
matchmaking services to ordinary Jordanians. The book also describes Orbach's personal encounter with Anti-Americanism, and concludes with a number of suggestions of how the United States might regain some of its lost credibility among Arab states.... to read the entire review, go to [...]

Not a False Note to Be Found

Benjamin Orbach did something just a few months after the events of 9-11 that few Americans dared to do. Just when most Americans were purposely avoiding travel to the Middle East (or had left the area for good), Orbach decided to move to Jordan on his own so that he could study Arabic as it is spoken on the street. He wanted to learn everyday Arabic slang and ways of expressing himself in the language that would allow him to communicate with Arabic speakers at the deepest level. Immersing himself into the culture of Amman, and living there without the usual security surrounding most Americans in that part of the world, he learned much more about himself and the people he met than he could have reasonably expected to come away with going into the experience.

Orbach's language skills and obvious respect for the culture and people he lived among made it possible for him to fit into his Amman neighborhood so well that he formed lasting friendships with the people he saw there everyday, his barber, his grocer, students at his university, his language teachers, restaurant owners and his landlady, among them. Unlike most Americans, and probably most Westerners, he came to see them as individuals with the same hopes and desires that we all have, rather than as interchangeable parts in a single Arab culture dominated by a religion bent on destroying the West and claiming the world for Islam. Anyone who reads Live from Jordan will be able to rid themselves of that stereotypical viewpoint forever and that makes it an important book.

When I started reading Live from Jordan I wondered whether or not Benjamin Orbach's personal experiences would be similar the ones I had while working in Algeria from late 1992 until early 2002. As it turns out, they definitely were. I am not an Arabic speaker but in Algeria French is the business language of choice and most Algerians are at least somewhat fluent in the language. That allowed me to have rather detailed and intimate discussions with my Algerian co-workers and friends about our differences and, more importantly, about our similarities. Much as I suspect that Orbach will always treasure his days in Jordan and Egypt, I will be forever grateful for the friendship and trust that was offered to me by those Algerians who welcomed me into their world as an individual rather than exclude me as an "American."

I mention my years in that part of the world only to emphasize how "true" this book read to me. I did not find a false note in it anywhere and would love to see its message spread as widely as possible.

This book was such a big help I thought my dog that went blind in three days would never have a good life. But since reading this book and using the information I gained from it I and my dog are enjoying things again and we are doing all the same things but just a little different.

I didn't find this book to be very helpful. It seems to be geared to having a pack of dogs as opposed to a single dog.

Either my dog is incredibly bright (okay, he is) or the book implies that dogs need far more training than I have found it to be for my dog.

My dog is completely blind. It happened over a period of a couple of months. He does very well at home and away and does not require all the aids the book suggests a blind dog might need.

My senior dog recently lost most of her vision. This book is excellent in providing ideas that work to help her navigate in the house, down the stairs and outside. The rug at the top and bottom of the steps helps her find her way and the scents added to certain door frames allowed her to find her way in and out of rooms without bumping her head or causing panic. I recommend this book to anyone who has blind or sight impaired animals.

I was devastated when my dog lost her vision. This book has helped me cope, given me reassurance and helped my dog enjoy life again. A must read for someone with a visually challenged pet.

Looming techniques and patterns

This book is great. Isela has put together many techniques new to the looming community. She shows you how to loom knit and make it look as if you have needle knitted the item and why it turns out that way. I had never known before this how to do a true knit or purl stitch on a loom. How can you do cables? How do you increases or decreases?Socks? All of this is in there. Only the e-wrap was ever explained before. She gives you all the tools you need here to translate regular knitting patterns and gives looming terminology. If you want to learn to knit by using these looms or other looms on the market pick up this book.
This looming craft is knitting in the round but it can also be used to make flat panals for making other items. She explains that with pictures in this book. This also was her first publication. Book number 2 is about to be released with even more patterns.(May 2008) It is a primer that gets your imagination flowing, she has spawned a whole group of non knitters to try to knit and do it successfully and some are even going further with chart reading and becoming pattern writers themselves. Caution: looming is addictive once you learn these basics. The sky is the limit.I highly recommend this book to new and old loomers out there.

I watched someone on a loom at my local craft store and I picked up a set for myself. I made a few scarves and hats. When you're ready to make the next step into how to use your looms to make things a little more complicated but not overwhelming, this is a good book for that step. I'm very pleased with this book. I would recommend it to a friend.

I only had made hats and scarves on my knifty knitter until I bought this book. This book is very comprehensive. It gives you a little history of loom knitting, the different types of looms, different types and gauges of yarn, and gives you a list of tools you need and tells specifically what they are used for. It has instructions for starting and finishing your knitted projects, picking up a dropped stitch, joining flat panels together, adding stitches, decreasing stitches, and pretty much anything else you might need to know to create things on your looms. I love the variety of patterns! And all the instructions are very easy to follow... with lots of pictures and drawn diagrams. I recommend this book to anyone who is stuck just making scarves and hats on their knifty knitter!

If you are buying a loom... GET THIS BOOK!

There is a very cute childs hat that I have already made. Very easy to follow the directions and it shows you the basic stitches so you can make new patterns on your own. Even has a felting section.

I saw my daughter so clearly!!!

From the first page I couldn't believe that she was describing my daughter to a tee. All of the other information and books on Asperger's was so rigid that my daughter did not fit their ideal of Asperger's, yet she fit most of it. But, because of this book I could see my daughter completely. I am about to re-read it. It's a library book but I will be soon ordering my own copy and telling her therapist who have no clue about Asperger's about it as well.

We wouldn't have had a diagnosis if it weren't for this book

What an eye-opening experience it was for me to finally find an explaination to my son's behaviors! Wow, we would have been stuck with an AS child being treated for ADHD and still having no success in the social adjustments.

The first night we recieved our book, my husband and I stayed up half the night screeming, "Look at this . . . This is my son"! It set us on our way to see a specialist that knew something more than our family pediatrician did about this neurological complex.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, AND THANKS AGAIN!!!

This isn't a book, it is a "good deed" (no, make that GREAT deed). And even that isn't high enough praise. Page by page, we have found answers to dozens of questions that we have been asking, but previously finding no answers. We went to therapists, psychiatrists & psychologists, but until Barbara & Patricia came along with this book, our family was sinking fast.
We are buying additional copies to give to family members and for the staff where our kid goes to school.

My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome two years ago. Of the 5-6 books devoted to Asperger's which I have read, this book is by far the BEST! It is very readable and easy for the layperson to understand and digest. Issues that were barely mentioned in other AS reference books were given time and space in the OASIS book.

I have the Rip It! book and love it. I just got this book for my niece for christmas. She wants to learn how to sew and I know this is the best book out there for her. It's very easy to understand and comes with patterns for her to learn with. I'm also getting her a sewing machine from www.sewfastseweasy.com
I love giving! She is going to be so thrilled!

I bought this book for my daughter and she has taken to sewing extremely fast. She's so proud of what she makes. Her enthusiasm for sewing now is almost too much for me to keep up with. This book was was easy for her to understand and the illustrations were very clear. She's been playing around with reconstructing her clothes so I'm thinking of getting her the Rip It book as well. I'm happy to see her involved in a positive hobby that she truly enjoys and gets satisfaction from.

I just bought this book because I wanted to delve into sewing a little more. I knew how to sew but I didn't know much about sewing techniques or terms or sewing notions and how to use them. This book was very easy to understand and explains everything I need to know about sewing and using notions and patterns. It's now my sewing bible! If I get stuck on something I grab my sew fast sew easy book.

This is a great book to get familiar with all the different models of S&W revolvers. I needed a book that would help me identify different revolvers and this book is the one. I believe this book will help anyone looking to broaden their knowledge of S&W firearms. What I like about this book is the color photos and detailed descriptions of each model. This book should be in every gun enthusiast's library.
