The HongKong Shanghia Bank

This fantastic book is almost impossible to put down. It follows the tale of the Bank from initial studies, through the invited international competition, design development, bidding, and construction. The challenges of building the "most expensive building ever built" in the middle of South-East Asia involved manufacturing and engineering feats usually reserved for aerospace of military efforts. The book really describes how the design concept responded to the realities of the program and the construction procedures and how Foster's office and others staged the monumental task of getting the building completed. Everyone involved claimed that it was the project they had been training for their entire career.

Great saga about the construction of an incredible building

Possibly the greatest work of art by the famous British Architect Sir Norman Foster, this review takes you step by step through the entire process of design, planning, and construction. At it's time the most expensive building on earth, Williams' book is a tour-de-force and should be a must read for every budding young architect. Seek it out and buy one now if you can (I bought 5 copies to give to my friends)

Beautiful interior and exterior pictures. Concise and informative text. Well represented properties throughout Andalusia and not concentrating on one specific location. A great complimentary book to Spanish Palaces and Villas. Hope the authors will follow up with the houses and palaces of Portugal.

awesome reference book for business communications
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-06
Are you a grammar-handicapped? Then this is the perfect book for you. It's basically a guide to business communication - whether it's letters, resumes, or job applications. There's a neato reference index where you can look up anything in the book - whether it's a question about where to put a comma or the things you should cover in your resume. All grammatical terms are defined in a very understandable way. Rules are bright red for easy reading, and lots of good examples are given. It's easy to use and very convenient. Everyone in my family uses it now - me for my office work, my daughter for school reports, and my wife for official letters. It's the best way to sharpen and shape up your official communication.

Absolute Best Office Reference Manual

I have used the How series since spring 1983, when I took my first office technology course in college, and our required reference manual was How 5. I am now up to How 8. This book is comprehensive, easy to understand, gives good examples, and is well indexed for ease in quickly looking up what you have a question on. I really love the "Words Often Confused and Misused" chapter, which helps you use the correct word in text (affect/effect; assure/ensure/insure, etc.). I highly recommend this book to all secretaries; clerks; report writers; journalists; anyone who works with the written word and needs to produce an intelligent-looking product where correct punctuation, capitalization, formatting and word use are important.

I truley enjoyed the book, " How to Enter the business of Commercial Modeling & Acting...Without Getting Ripped Off!"! I have learned how to act in college, but never how to make great money acting in the business! I never realized how simple it was for someone to get started in commercial modeling and acting! This book is great because it holds your hand throughout the book and makes it so simple to get started. I have already loaned it to a few freinds and a stage mom or two! It was also great to read the interviews from actors, models and the folks who hire talent. The book covered the entire spectrum of the business. I would advise that not only "new" talent read this but experienced as well. I think it is awesome that the author took the time to write this book because anyone reading it CAN NOT GET SCAMMED IN THE INDUSTRY! Like Morgan Creek Productions quoted on the back of the book, "Shark repellent for the sertious actor" it couldn't have been said better! So many people think that they have to be beautiful to model...WRONG! The Author made a great point..He said that "real" people target the"real" consumer. As a matter of fact, when I watched TV after reading the book, it was about 80% real people in the tv commercials. Even radio commercials lately have the everyday type of voice as opposed to the radio announcer type of voice. I never realized there was such a demand for people like me in the commercial industry.

A great book for anyone trying to enter the business.

This is one of my all time favorite books. I wish I had a copy of it. It is about a tradional Japanese form of packaging different things, mostly food. The idea behind it is that when you present someone with a cake, say, and its nicely packaged they get the idea that you hope they enjoy the cake.
The five eggs of the title are sort of stacked up and bound with straw woven in an ingenious way. The photographs are lovely and the descriptions of the various packages are informative as well as evocotive. I once had the chance to see
How To Wrap Five Eggs at the Japan Society Library. Boy I wish I had that one too.

Giger is the artist who created the creature for "Alien" movie. If you like "gothic", creepy, spooky (little bit) style, probably you will also like the creatures that he draws. I would consider this collection of postcards a good bargain for a sampling of his works. But how appropriate are these cards for mailing out to friends is another question. Maybe it is better as keepsake or collection rather than goodwill (hard to imagine) postcards.

The Hydroponics Bible

Review Date: 2008-06-24
This is by far the most definitive work I've read on the subject. A co-worker of mine recommended this as the "Bible" of hydroponics and he was absolutely right.

It looks like a textbook right down to the ugly cyan/green cover, but it doesn't matter how a book looks if it's got it where it counts. Whether you're a hobbyist or a commercial hydroponics grower, this book is something you'll have wished you'd read.

The only book about hydroponics you need.

The "Resh" bible, is the definitive guidebook about hydroponics. Resh review the actual techniques and different systems he observed over 40 years as well as provide deep technical insight to most of them. This book should the first to be reviewed if you aspire to be a commercial grower and the best reference book for horticultural consultant working with soilless systems.
