Very American. Is there a world beyond their borders?

Doesn't mention Data Centers, doesn't talk about market trends such ASPs.

What about market data?

Is the American market really so simple? (Smile, be nice to customers and then sell to a bigger company)

Required reading for any ISP startup

It s a wonderfull book, about how to run a ISP, and how to identify your market, and develop your bussiness strategy in each segment.

The first three chapters are dedicated to know what is the ISP bussiness, to know your strengths and weakness, and the strategy you must develop to grow.

The next chapters are dedicated to know marketing techniques especially focus in the ISP bussiness, and how to develop the rigth one for your organization.

It s a well organized book, that I can recommend to every small ISP, who wish to grow up.

This manual is completely worthless. Do NOT buy if you are just re-certifying; I really don't know what I was thinking. I gaurantee that you will not learn anything new.

I suppose it is worthwhile for those learning CPR for the first time (at least it's cheap).

I may buy several for my sisters and mother, not in the medical field.

Venerating A Criminal Enterprise

Review Date: 2007-02-10
This book is a sad joke. It is written by two individuals who have everything to gain by venerating the MC system. The irony is that it is written FOR the people who have everything to lose by playing the game. This bad book perpetuates victimhood of mental professionals and of the lives covered by these detestable MCO's.

Managed care is all about controlling the purse strings and denying care.

First of all, we are licensed mental health "Professionals" (psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatrists), and NOT "Providers".

Second of all, where is the need for a guide to a system that is as corrupt and evil as WW II era Vichy France? You cannot cooperate with a system that has your slavery and destruction as its end goal. Cooperate in your own decimation!

The publisher of this book must have suffered from temporary cortical blindness because there is nothing here that is offered that is real.

These truths are self-evident and this book runs roughshod over them:

1. You cannot "market" yourself to MCO's. MCO personnel do NOT lay awake at night wondering if Joe Blow got to just the right psychologist!

2. Managed care companies are notorious for randomly losing your "provider applications" and also, your submitted claims!

3. "Provider relations" is all about in reality, Master-slave relations.

4. These authors have no integrity by writing a book such as this. They would show more integrity if they never wrote this lie, if they pulled the book (which perpetuates a cruel and destructive hoax), and if they just sat back and did their MCO jobs and collected their checks!

5. The chapter on "communicating with MC: Getting services approved" is another joke. The question is: how can we facilitate an utterly wasteful process? Do we really believe that treatment plans ever get read?

This book is all propaganda propagated by Joseph Goebbels type bureaucrats who are long winded on pathetic recommendations about what MH "Providers"/Professionals CAN do, but very short on TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for the evil system that mismanages and mangles patient care.

Although the thesis of this book may be original, in that market uncertainty is related to the end-to-end nature of networks like the Internet, the same idea is repeated in various forms over and over again, making this a painful and not very satisfying read.

Talk about timing! Everyone should get their hands on this book. I had no idea how to figure out what to recommend to the higher-ups in these tight times. This book was a life-saver. If you can only buy one network service with the meager budget we all have these days, then this book will get you there."

While the review questions in this book are very comprehensive, the rationals for the answers are not supplied. Instead, a page number next to the answer is supplied, but it doesn't actually match up with that page in the book. There must be some other book that goes with this, but I sure couldn't figure out what book it was. It's difficult to test yourself when you can't find the rational for your answers. I know that I learn and retain information better when I know the reason why something is done. I therefore would recommend that it someone knows what the companion book is, please list it on this site!!

I think it covers the material pretty well, but it is not what I was expecting. Plain black and white print on almost card stock, but not a slick finish. Not enough depth to be real useful to me. So, I would suggest you look at one before you buy. It may be what you are looking for, but it was not what I was looking for.

This book makes a excellent review about the most important skills you need to know. The best part for me is the airway managent skills cause is easy to understand and have good pictures, also important is the part about the management of head trauma conforms to the brain trauma fundation. The problem is that it dont talk about pharmacology and cardiac management. This book have great ilustrations and images with full collor. Good idea If you live out of the USA or if this is your first experience buying Paramedic books by the net. AYAX SOBRINO SAAVEDRA

My Students Did Not Find This Book Helpful

This book was one of the few I could find for a community mental health and behavioral health systems course. I knew the book was dense with material (my students are undergrads), but I did not anticipate my students' response to it. For them there was too much information. Maybe the text fairs better in Masters level courses. As the teacher, I wasn't thrilled with the overall organization (chapter wise). The first two chapters focusing on history and context were wonderful, but then the jump to ecological modal and prevention was awkward. Each chapter was of varying quality (may were good), but there was not a clear relationship between the chapters or why they were clumped in units.

As a librarian in the computer center of a public library I am often asked for help in setting up and using e-mail accounts. At first glance this seemed exactly the book to make my job easier; it is compact, well illustrated and gives the user a basic introduction to understanding and using e-mail. I particularly liked the layout and having a picture of the screen combined with the text to both show and tell the steps along the way.

However, what I hadn't noticed is that it is actually a handbook for using Microsoft Outlook Express 5.0. It does say this on the cover, but "e-mail" is displayed far more prominently and that, plus the subtext of all the topics covered is what caught my attention -- not the seal that says Outlook Express. This was misleading and for my puposes diminishes the usefulness of the book.

Based on the cover and title I expected a more general book on using e-mail, not a manual on a specific program. Calling it "Essential Computers : E-mail" gives a different impression of its contents and does not do enough to emphasize its focus on Microsoft Products.

Another major drawback is that it appears to be a book for beginners, but then assumes that the user already has an e-mail account set up or knows how to go about doing this. For the absolute novice THIS is one of the essential first steps yet it is not included in the book.

Still, strictly as a manual on Outlook Express it is useful, although ironically perhaps more useful for the advanced user than the beginner. If this is a program someone uses and relies on for their e-mail management it is a good book for maximizing the use of the program. But for the casual and beginning users that just want to learn to use e-mail I would look for something else.

I do not know if all of the negative reviews are justified or well reasoned. I am somewhat familiar to Unix type OSes and was looking for something fundamental but not overly simple.

This book starts with basic elements (basic commands, concept of user accounts) and lays a good foundation for further study. I very much appreciated the fact that it does not assume to much from its readers with regard to their knowledge of Unix.

The chapters are concise and nicely arranged, logistically speaking. This topics are linear and are do not throw to much info at the reader at once. However the content is not dummed- down to the point of being condescending.

Installed and configured FreeBSD for the first time using this book. Very nice and easy to follow. Information goes far enough to allow the user/reader to take things further where needed - from other sources. The book covers the basics nicely. I came from linux and found the change over to be smooth. Nothing bad to say.

Some Useful Information

As mentioned previously, the most frustrating issue was being instructed not to create a user account at installation and then being told to log into that account in the next lesson.

The book is going to be useful if you have no experience with FreeBSD or Unix because it does cover a lot of basic information without being too overwhelming. A better choice, however, would probably be FreeBSD Unleashed because it covers more material and does not appear to be plagued by the same editorial issues even though it is written by the same authors.

Make it a point to visit the Sam's website and read the Errata for this book.

It's not completely useless, I learned a lot from the book but to have so many typos and mistakes in technical reading such as this is completely unacceptable. It includes a CD with FreeBSD 4.7 which is still supported but out of date.
